    I was definitely one of the people telling you to check this out I'm glad you did! I really like this for screws in tapped holes, there's too little resistance to use the ratchet when starting the screw so it's nice you can spin the ratchet with your fingers when the screw is looser

    Annex makes this exact ball grip style with a 72T mechanism.
    And Vessel No. TD-6700W-23 is a stubby clear handled 72T mechanism. There's also a full sized handle 72T.
    Love the channel!

      I have the Vessel and Anex 72T side by side, and it is night and day - the Anex is SO much better. Tight tolerance, virtually no slop when locked, super smooth action with way more teeth - and you aren't locked into proprietary shafts/tips. The Vessel feels plasticky and downright cheap in comparison

    Actually these are made to DIN 5260-PH / ISO 8763-1 standards, and are also known as being JIS-compliant or "beyond JIS". The JIS standard no longer applies to screwdrivers. These work best with JIS screws and way better than Phillips drivers with Phillips screws.

    Ive been looking at their non ratcheting screwdrivers as an electrician as a bit beefier option, but still the ball end type to reduce fatigue a a little. Seems like a good design to avoid RSIs like carpal tunnel. Their MEGADORA line looks PHENOMENAL though, especially the tang through models for really beating the crap out of them. I have a ratcheting wera multibit for majority of my screwing, but its alwauys good to have a couple of fixed shank non ratcheting ones to compliment a multibit in a hand tool collection. Might grab those ratcheting ballends for home tho!

    I like Vessel screwdrivers, especially the JIS ones, but I wish there was more consistency in the handle colours - they seem to go all over the place, and they're not colour-coded for drive type, so if you have Vessel flat tips, JIS and Pozidriv (as I do), you can't tell at a glance which is which. Sort it out, Vessel!

  • @christianness8983
    @christianness8983 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I definitely need to try one. I didn't realize at first that you could just pull the shaft off, so that's really nice. As far as the extremely tight fit, I don't believe that's actually a drawback. You can definitely still remove the bit with your fingers, and I think it's tight because they intentionally made the tolerances that way so you wouldn't have bit wobble.

  • @felixf5211

    Hadn't seen this. Surprised by the number of comments. Apparently folks are interested in Vessel. I have a few of the individual ball-head 'drivers, non-ratcheting. They're cool. I like screwdrivers and the essentially the only ones that I use these days are hex. Kinda dull.

  • @Ice_Berg
    @Ice_Berg 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you're interested in doing a comparison with another Japanese ball grip driver there is a similar one from a company called ANEX. It has a 72 tooth ratchet and it remains a full size driver even when swapping out bits. I've been meaning to pick one up, but I just have a lot of screwdrivers already so it's never been a priority. To me being able to use standard bits (though I believe they need to be 2" long to reach the bottom of the holder) to swap out is worth the trade off of not having it convert to a stubby.

    I noticed that, toward the end of the video, you made the comment that the Snap-On had fewer teeth in the ratchet than the Vessel. My take is that tooth count is far less important in a ratcheting screwdriver than an actual ratchet. That being said, my favorite ratcheting screwdriver is the Vessel TD-68XX series which has 72 teeth. And, the related TD-67XX series is stubby.

    are you sure, this is a philips bit? as far as i know, vessel marks their jis cross point drivers somewhat confusingly with "P." followed by the number for the size. i am not 100% sure, so if someone could clear things up, that would be great. a jis driver should work well in a philips screw, though (the other way around unfortunately not).

    Thanks doc! Another solid review. I'm definitely intrigued by the design. They have the same shape as old cabinet maker screw drivers, with round instead of oval handles.
    My 2 Minute review of their Crystaline ratcheting drivers. The regular length is not a good value. Cheap bits, weak magnet and sloppy mechanism. The stubby has a much better mechanism but only a ball detent and the bit holder is too long for extra tight work. It also only really accepts 33 mm bits and not c6. It comes with a flexible extension and a bit holder that is handy. The stubby is made in Japan, the regular is made in Vietnam.

    Wishing they did POZI driver bits… they only do Phillips heads and a Japanese JIS bits which here in the U.K. JIS bits are only good for working on Japanese cars or air conditioning units… So if people here import a set they will have drivers that aren’t getting any use.

    I wish they'd made it so the screw driver bits themselves fit INTO the secondary driver bit portion as well, and not JUST into the stubby portion. That way you can order this and have the better use of that grippy bit portion for any changeable bit type or size. But as it is, this was purpose engineered so you'd have to buy their bits if you want that functionality. This'll be a pass from me just for that reason. Anex makes what I'm talking about, it's the exact same functionality, but better, with a far better ratcheting driver (finer, better feeling teeth) and you can use your own bits.

    Vessel drivers use JIS tips, not the standard phillips. They are far superior. You can use a JIS driver in a phillips fastener, but should never use a phillips driver in a JIS fastener. I have several that I was issued in 2001 to repair Japanese made machinery and after years of abuse at home they're still perfect. I don't think I've ever stripped a fastener with these drivers. I'll have them for life and you won't be disapointed if you buy them.
