Really helpful. I didn't care about my saves or having to reinstall everything. So I just put my 2 TB drive from my ps4 into my pro and reformatted it.

@@gjammer836 nope the hard drives are married to the individual ps4s, they hard drives will work but you still need a usb flash drive to download the ps4 software and the hard drive automatically reformats
After all these years I finally put a SSD in my PS4 Pro. It used to be in my PC so I was scared to even try to format it, so I left it alone and let the PS4 read it and take over. 9 minutes left to restoring my backup. :)
Hah that's pretty lucky. Every time I tried to reformat an SSD I encountered write protection which locked the SSD. Every time I had to unplug the power to the SSD and plug it back in. Glad to hear that it worked!
Thanks. Helped me get it out. Stopped at 2:00, doh. Bought a $21 SATA clover, drank some brisk sweet tea and waited for HDD to clone to SSD. Done. I figured I’m likely going to upgrade most of my consoles to SSDs, so the closer is worth the time. Still great vid 👍🏽
The power cord twist tie works perfectly, like the red ribbon shown, and it probably a lot easier for most to find, because it's right there, in the box, when one's unboxing the Pro, to change the drive and set things up! Hope this helps... Cheers to The Players!

Just installed my SSD into my pro but for some reason it would not read my USB driver in the front ports I had to use the one in the back. Install was pretty quick. SSD makes a huge difference navigating the ps4 menu. Blazing fast.
@@wolfiemedia you load into games before people. Doesn't make much much of a difference when you still have to wait for them anyway. Menu freezing up was the big reason for the change.
I'm all Digital so needed HDD space on PS4 Pro. Fitting 4TB SSD for "The Witcher 3" - too slow loading textures with standard drive for that game. USB can't be read if using Extended Storage on another USB port. Unplug Extended device and try again..
First error message you might get is that the USB stick or drive needs to be formatted to exfat. Then the second error message I got was that it couldn't use the file I was trying. Like the video said, make sure you use the larger file, which you get at a link at the bottom of the PlayStation page. Once I actually used the right, larger, file it worked for me. Also make sure the names are in all capital/uppercase letters

why does everybody continuously forget about the cloud to back up your save files?? seriously its so much easier than usb. as for downloading updates it will have you do so the moment you try to go online with it.

lizardhero You could either back up all your saves with PS Plus or onto a USB (I would heavily recommend just doing both). You can use the 2tb drive you currently have, you'll just have to re-download everything. It would be, well, like having a brand new hard drive.

So what you will have to do is upload everything to the Cloud your saves.. there is no way around this, once you put the new HDD in your Pro it will format it. and you will have to RE download all your games. its worth it trust me. i still use my ps4 pro over my ps5 why because of space my pro has 2TB HDD and external 2TB the ps5 offers only 800Gb that is not enough for crap. but yes you will get all your data back if you up load everything to PSN your data that is.

buy a cheap sata to usb 3.0 cable... take the 1tb drive out of the ps4 pro, then connect the drive to old ps4 with the sata to usb cable.. (you might have to format it on a pc first).. then use the backup transfer process and transfer everything.. then you take your 2tb drive out of your old ps4 and put it in your ps4 pro (you may have to format it on a pc again). and then initialize the ps4 just like this video.. and then go to the restore setting and plug in the 1tb drive with the backup and restore everything....

You can't switch your old ps4 hard drive and put it into your new one since each one is encrypted to one specific play station .

Because anytime a new HDD is put into a PS4, the PS4 will not start properly and ask you to install system firmware and it will reformat the drive.
