  • I purchased 2 NOCO Genius 1 Charger/Maintainers to keep the batteries in my classic cars peak charged and in good condition. The NOCO Genius 1 only has a 1 Amp (1000 mA) output so it is not suitable for quick charging car batteries in a discharged state. My classic cars are seldom driven, so the trickle chargers will keep my batteries charged and in good condition between uses.

    I got this NOCO 1 charger for my motorcycle battery. After not using the bike for months I like to charge it to top condition and then that is it. I use Lithium Batteries in my motorcycles which are superior, lighter and have no acid rusting effects on the body of the vehicle as lead acid batteries do. I disconnect my batteries when hybernating and charge them to standards upon waking up and for the small motorcycle battery this NOCO GENIUS 1 charger / maintainer is superb. NOCO has other more powerful models that are geared for use with larger batteries

    I've used the Genius 1 for years. Only on 12v & 6v batteries for game cameras and other wildlife management equipment. Love these they've saved me money. I've never used on a vehicle battery tho.

    Nice review! I have a couple different chargers from this brand and have zero issues. I’ve used them when storing and charging my parents T-bird, ‘31 Model A’s to my F-150, 2500 Savana, travel trailer, Subaru and lawn tractor (wide range of vehicles).

      They've worked well for me keeping my batteries topped off. Maybe like you, my classic cars don't get driven often so it's good for battery health to keep them charged and maintained.

    I have been working from home ever since covid 1st started and i never drive my cars. I was goin thru batteries like dirty draws, no really i was buying a battery every year and a half by letting them go dead all the time,I now have em trickle charging and that should solve my problem

      Modern cars always have a battery drain keeping different systems alive. One of these should help.

  • @ezeNdog
    @ezeNdog 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I could be wrong but i thought the instructions said it starts by completely discharging the battery then charges it back up.... Then holds a safty tricle charge mode

    • @thelog86
      @thelog86 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I doubt that it would discharge a battery before it charges it. These units are really designed to maintain a good battery opposed to charging a dead battery @1volt it would take 2 weeks or longer to fully charge a completely discharged battery.

    Good video, to the point. Can you tell us if the red was solid or pulsing? I don't get a pulsing, I get a SOLID red nobody seems to cover what SOLID means, even the instructions.

      I looked at the video again and mine was pulsing red then pulsing green then solid green. Perhaps your battery is discharged further than what mine was?

    You leave it on all the time for 5months? Even tho the light is green, i thought the light is green that mean its done charging, where did it said its a maintainer?

    • @SPSteve
      @SPSteve  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, if I'm not driving the car, it's always plugged in. It's a battery charger, maintainer and desulfator. In the manual it says it can be left connected to the battery indefinitely.

  • @rubberchicken5670
    @rubberchicken5670 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I looked at the manual online. There is NO on/off switch that I can see. So I have to unplug this & remove the leads everytime I get in my car?

    • @SPSteve
      @SPSteve  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thats right. Unplug it from the wall and then disconnect it from the battery. Trickle chargers are primarily intended for cars that sit idle for long periods.

      @@SPSteve Sometimes my car sits for a week or more. Sometimes not. I have a BMW. Modern vehicles have computers & alarms that are a constant drain on their batteries."Parasitic draw." If you don't drive every day to charge the battery they drain pretty quickly. My last BMW battery lasted 13 years on a smart charger. The same with my Harley. Harley battteries are only supposed to last about 1 year. My current Harley battery is going on 6 years on a smart charger. (Although it needs replacement now.)
      STORY: I had to help a couple jump start their BRAND NEW car. They had just bought a new battery & it was dead. They told me they only drive their car about once a week & they keep having to buy new batteries for it. My advice was, "Go immediately to Auto Zone & buy a smart charger & hook it up every time you park it." Smart chargers are NOT just for cars that sit idle for long periods of time.
      Almost ALL these smart chargers are POORLY designed. They should ALL have an on/off switch so I can turn it OFF, remove the leads & GO! Come home, connect the leads & turn it ON without having to UNPLUG IT every time I wanna drive my car or motorcycle. But, that's American ingenuity for ya.
