So I'm a Canadian who has lived in Bangkok for 20 years and have played just about every course in the country, many of them many dozens of times. Shan's information is kinda correct but can be a little off. She didn't really play the nicer golf courses, although she managed to avoid the dumpy ones. Red Mountain and Suwan however are two of the top 10 courses available to the public, with Red Mountain being one of the top courses in SE Asia (when its condition is good - which can be a little seasonal due to the heavy rains in Phuket). Red Mountain is always expensive and Suwan is usually much more expensive than noted. If you want to play the best courses in Thailand, I recommend, in no particular order: Alpine, Riverdale, Suwan, Black Mountain, Banyan, Red Mountain, Santiburi Samui, Siam Old Course, Siam Plantation, Nikanti, Dream Arena, Thai CC. There's a few other amazing private courses but hard to get on to play. Most of these course will cost you about 5K baht all in - some even more.
@@57beanyboy Note there's a lot of other good courses around Bangkok and the country that are far more economical than the ones I listed. But be cautious around Bangkok as certain courses that are not very good get promoted heavily to tourists. And, there are a lot of cheap courses that are decent if value is what you're after. Thailand golf is like many other places: you pay a big premium to play the best courses, but you can also play decent courses for 1200 baht. It all depends on what you want...
Great video. I've never played Phuket or Bangkok. If you return, Huahin and Kanchanaburi are great golfing destinations, our group has done these many times. I have 20 years in Thailand under my belt, still learning , and your videos are so informative for me.
Love Summit Windmill too Bangprakong Riverside is fun to play, 1650 sports day with cart n caddy. Royal Lakeside and The Royal GCC are worth a look too. Laem Chabang is another great course.
can't wait to play in thailand. I'm am moving there next month. I was shocked at how expensive it is relative to where i would typically play in the US. You are a far better golfer than I i can tell. But i have just gotten back into golf after being away from it for about 12years. so looking forward to my new life in Thailand, which will likely include some lesson's to help bring my game back up to snuff. New clubs & all. should be fun. And good point about the food costs mitigating some of that overall cost really. I did just get back from Hawaii where i played some golf and it was amazing in spite how poorly i played for 1st time out in 12ish years. I've got the itch now.
Enjoy Thailand and good luck getting back into golf full swing ;) I also have my ups and downs. After winters here in Canada my game is also atrocious for a bit hahaha US golf courses have local rates that make them very affordable and hard to beat. I guess you're trading the cheaper living expenses for golf! Also golfing with caddies make life easier
@@GolfwithShan absolutely. so i could get used to that. plus someone to fetch my club when i've chucked it in the water. kidding, mostly. i'd just throw the whole bag in.
True, very few courses in Bangkok proper. However, if you know a member at Royal Bangkok Sports Club, you can play right in the heart of the city surrounded by sky scrapers. It also has a horse track running right through it which makes it very interesting indeed. Try and figure out a way to play it. Very unique experience!
The prices are different between weekends and weekdays. Suwan is pretty expensive on weekends but they have special on Monday. Hopefully next time you will visit Chiang Mai Hiland. The price is great and the course is amazing.
Excellent channel like the travel videos especially 😀 okay I will allways watch I play mini golf only 🤭 Completely interesting channel offcourse I have subscribed. My favourite are the travel videos.
We did Kuala Lumpur and Phuket in Feb. Played KLGCC in Kuala Lumpur, Then Canyon Course, Loch Palm, Phuket GCC and Red Mountain. The plan is to hit Bangkok in 24 so this video was great to watch. If you ever play Braeben let me know.
Sounds like a great lineup of courses! Enjoy your trip! I have played Braeben in an earlier video 😊 th-cam.com/video/5MUR97yJBA8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=bMlr_G0lUp9kymK_
Hi Shan I'm Dan from 🇨🇦 and looking forward to be going to Thailand first time and yes play golf. Is there golf lessons we can take? Thanks for your video I captured screen each golf course
Hi Shan, I work and live in Thailand and my wife has joined me from China, the best golf course in Red Mountain and Siam Plantation. And I see your red mountain shirt.😂
Have you ever played at the Aquella Country Club? I’m going to play that course in November so wanted to hear your thoughts if you have. Great video, thank you!
Thana city is my favorite in terms of quality/price ( with membership that cost abt 1900thb and you get your first round free so no questions abt taking it). Only downside of it, green are a bit slow, but the quality of the greens is very consistent, if it was a 10 speed it would be such an and golf course ! Matter of fact many pros are playing there or even practicing there, best practice center with JBLK 👍
Thanks for the info. Can you share the slope ratings of these golf courses, playing from the black (championship) tees? It’ll be located on the scorecards.
Hi, for a lot of these courses, the blue tees are the "back" tees. I couldn't find the slope for Suwan, but here are the slopes for the other courses :) Suwan Golf and Country Club (no info) Thana City Country Club - 129 Muang Kaew Golf - 138 The Vintage Club - 117 Summit Windmill Golf Club - 135 Blue Canyon Lakes Course - 128 Blue Canyon Canyon Course - 141 Red Mountain Golf Club - 136
@@GolfwithShan Thanks for your prompt details. Very helpful. I'm visiting Bangkok soon. I checked into Suwan Golf & Country Club in Nakhon Pathom. It shows a slope of 132 (blue tees) at 6,681 yd (CR: 70.1), but there is a black tee set at 7,110 yd (slope and CR are missing). Does it sound accurate? Sounds like a challenge with slopes in the 130's and 141. Looking forward to it.
Hi, just saw your reply to the reply lol Sounds about right, in general i found the courses more difficult because of the water hazards and length. In Bangkok they're quite flat though, so really only water hazards and bunkers to look out for. The courses were a bit long for me, but would be unenjoyable if i moved up to reds personally. If I had a little more distance, I'd say the courses are really playable, slightly difficult but not so difficult that it's frustrating. 😊 Enjoy your trip!
Nice line up of courses. I really liked Red Mountain but as you say, it is more expensive. I have usually booked tee times direct with the golf course. What was your experience with Golf Savers and do you get a huge discount?
I had a good experience. We found that the price on Golf Savers was lower than the prices listed at the golf course for visitors. The good thing was convenience because all the courses are on Golf Savers (and we didn't have to individually call and book each golf course). I would definitely still recommend comparing the prices before booking.
Been watching a few of your videos of golfing in Thailand, they are very well done. I have played a few rounds of golf in Pattaya but not Bangkok (Maybe i should give Suwan and Nikanti a go next time). Somehow, being Malaysian, i rather pay to play better courses in Malaysia, notably Forest City (2 18s), Els Desaru (2 18s) maybe Palm Garden (KL) as they offer better value to the buck (KLGCC is a bit overpriced). That's just my opinion. But of course, being local, we can just drive to the 1st 2 courses from KL as the journey takes 3.5 to 4.5 hours.

@djknox2 I am just a hacker that likes to have a good walk around a nicely laid out course. If I hit one or two good drives that makes my day.
loving your content Shan - thanks
Great info as usual, thanks for sharing!

Highlands is a magnificent course ..I think is better than Alpine, which usually gets top billing . Better price better overall at Highlands IMO

My favourite near Pattaya was Rayong Green Valley /St Andrews - also the prettiest in my opinion.

you rank palm garden higher than kota permai, saujana ?
Doesn't the one of the trains get you close?
The best place in Thailand to play golf is Pattaya. Cheaper than Phuket, less traffic than Bangkok.
I've heard a lot of good things about golf in Pattaya, will have to check it out for myself 😉
