In Thailand, I live pretty well. It's warm and we are never cold, except December to February in the morning in Chiang Mai. That's when we go birding in the mountains for days on end, listening to the wind whistle through the pine trees.
I don't only live in Chiang Mai. I also stay in Bangkok and a southern town in Thailand. I rent another house in Bangkok and there is a home in the south too.
I left South Africa with the goal of never returning as a resident. Since then, I have created that reality through pro active steps to ensure I never HAVE to go back. I've been out here 10 years now and may be looking for a move soon.
We mainly eat imported meats and butters and cheese as the stuff we like and grew up eating is not found here of any decent quality.
We make our own biltong, boerewors and malva pudding. All the South African comfort foods. I might be Lithuanian, but South Africa was where I spent most of my life so that will never leave me.
It's a great life playas. Don't let it get you down. You could always have a squat toilet. Exactly. - กีฬา

That fishing game looks good. Can you fish anywhere? Could you catch crabs in Pattaya?
@@thehairygolfer 😆😆
maybe the greatest game ever made
the only one i play of course
can now see why you spend so much time golfing. Lovely
I don't know if I believe a single thing about this video and that is why I love your channel lol.
that made me laugh
Yea, I can never tell when he's being serious or not 😂
my thoughts also haha
@@GolfSidekickbring us to the farm amigo 🤌🏽🤌🏽
My guys is a flex 😂
two grown men with peace, quite, and happiness. Gotta Love It!!!! Nothings better!!! 🙂
hmm
Hey man, just wanted to say that I love your content. I’ve managed to break 100 twice this summer after 10+ years away from golf following your advice (+ two very annoying rounds at 100 on the dot). 90 is next. Many thanks!
well done maboi
That's great.. I listened to breaking 90 and breaking 80.... mmm. 20 times each.. really helped me. I am happy with an 86, because I am not a kid and not a pro..
I’m with you there. I started watching Matt a while back and have gone through the 100 and 90 barriers by following his advice hoping to break 80 this year 🤞
You really got everything you need under one roof❤. Thanks for sharing all your great content Matty, hope to see you on fishing clash.
Found your content when I started playing November 2022 - started going round my local course in 149.. broke 90 three times this week with an official 18.9 handicap following your lessons - thanks Playa!!
I’ll get a remote job soon and hope to travel while golfing and rock climbing. Awesome to get a look into your lifestyle and would love to see more of a budget breakdown
Would love more of these ‘vlog’/lifestyle videos. Very relaxing and entertaining, to me at least!
WaddaHouse!! Very cool, thank you for the tour Playa 😄
So cool to see your digs and your Dad is spectacular! Love the down-to-earth, no-frills lifestyle, not unlike my own. Cheers from cool and wet New England!
First time I saw one of your videos I knew you were playing in Thailand. Little did I know you’re actually living where I grew up as a young kid. Kicking myself that I didn’t pick up golf more seriously when I was a kid there but glad I’m obsessed now and glad it lead me to your videos. Keep up the good work my friend
Love your content brother! after 10 years of consistently shooting 94-100 I felt like I was just spinning my wheels. I just shot my career low 87 after watching you for a few weeks.
Absolutely the best content provider for me. Thanks for a peek behind the curtain, Matty!
Simple and to the point great video of casa and Dad 🎉 cheers
This was lovely. There was something peaceful about this video. Maybe because it reminds me of my granddad's place in South Korea, I don't know, but I was smiling the whole video and a little jealous.
Thanks for the insight into the life of a YT golf king. Your Dad is as chill as your game is epical.
Enjoying your content and channel everyday... and living near the Washington D.C. USA area... this video was eye opening and surprising. Loved the personal insight and "letting us into your home".
Waddaplaya!!!
Comfortable setup Playa. Thx for sharing how you live in Thailand.
Shot 38 this morning . Best 9 of the season. 4 and 5 irons on the tee box except 2 very safe driver holes. GiOTG and made a few putts. !!
I read that book a few years ago. Solid. 😎 cheers!
Reading scott 🔥 systems over goals!
Ahhh all the solutions and essentials to make life good. Awesome dude. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Great video. Really enjoyed it. Your dad is a pretty chill dude, love the coffee wall!. You guys have everything you need. Keep making great content. Subbed.
Welcome playa glad to see you here
Great video, love your golf tips, just all makes sense, also love Thailand, I feel educated now about S Africa food, did google some of it lol, cheers from UK 🇬🇧
Loved the look at the Thai life. Going to become a fishing quest baus in your honour
Just what I needed! I am thinking of coming over to travel and work remotely! Thank you
Highly recommend. Chiang mai is best for it
@@GolfSidekick Any golf courses you would recommend in Thailand that would not break my budget?
@@svenmeyer4973 yes avoid the top rated ones. then the rest are cheap. search 'golf' on google maps and avoid the ones that look nice
What about a door made out of a table?
next video
Great book to read. Next one is theatre of the mind by Matt Fury. Love watching this. Plan to move from London to Spain in a couple of years. Will send you a invite.
Nicely done sir.
Nice to get to know you better
Love this
My 7 year old was singing your birdie song after I sunk the putt! You’ve helped make a playa!
I live in CM too and just shipped my clubs over. Always up for a knock :)
biltong for the win - would love to know your recipe before drying
Mrs Balls Chutney Original is best here in Aus as well. Where do you keep your golf stuff?
Thank you for your content. Love your philosophy on the golf game. I’m 75 yrs. Trying to break 80. Thank you for the inspiration!
God Bless you man. Don’t think I could do it. What made you move out there?
Biltong is hand down the best jerky out there! Brought back 10 pounds of it with me to the states when I visited a few months ago 😂
Love it 👍👍👍
Used to live in the koolpuntville neighborhood in Chiang Mai, the city is a gem
Great to see your dad saved that train. Nothing better than sentimental memories. Waddalife..
There are only a few TH-camrs you watch and think to yourself “I’d love to grab a beer with this guy” this is one of them 😂
Well come on over
I've been a subscriber for some time now, but I didn't realise you were from SA until I heard it in a video I watched yesterday - the guy mentioned back home in Humewood... awesomeness!! 🇿🇦
That was a dope picture you drew Matty boom boom!
Thank you. I will sell on eBay one day
Ive just moved to chiang mai from South Africa. Would love to meet you on the course one day.
Entertaining 😊
This is the pivot I was waiting for!! Thailand all day every day!
Ok i will reveal more. Bangkok house tour coming soon. And in the south too. May have to reveal the true budget!
@@GolfSidekick I think it’s time.
@@GolfSidekick I’m expecting you to open a drawer, realize you’ve just shown us a stash of blood diamonds, shut the drawer, then, without saying anything, point out a woodworking project you have 80 percent finished.
@@GolfSidekick Went on R&R in Bangkok during the Viet Nam war. Had a blast, out driver took us fishing and it turned out it was piranha we were fishing for lol.
I am planning to move in the area also but different country. I bought land and building a house in Vientiane. With the house built, monthly cost will be low and allow me to golf more. We will be right by Fridge Bridge between Udom, Thailand and Vientiane Laos. Just waiting on my daughter to graduate HS and go to college now.
Playa in Chief is a real one. Walking the talk, living the life he makes for himself.
If you are on the fence, go purchase some of his shirts and hats. They are truly top notch, and support the Playa lifestyle! I consistently get compliments on the pillow fight and tropic thunder patterns.
this man is a true golfer
This video literally blew my mind. Wow.
I spent a lot of time in Chaing Mai in the early 2000’s. One of my favorite places on earth. The first place I ever saw a McDonald’s that delivered.
I spotted Five Crowns! What a fantastic game :D
Also never been to SA but two of my close friends went for like half a year and they brought back biltong and it KICKED ASS. Good shit!
What is it exactly? Never heard of it
@@danielowen5889 it’s basically beef jerky but South African style. Often it’s made with game meat rather than farmed beef though. Little bit different texture and obviously different flavour profile than the North American stuff. But if you like jerky you probably like biltong.
I noticed all the windows have bars. Nothing so bad as what I've heard about joburg, but how do you feel about the safety where you are?
extremely safe here
Love your little Jack Russell as well sorry he passed 🙏
Awesome
Is the finger exercise thing good for golfers?
guitar
Matty, are you doing any Toman fishing over there??
Living the dream
Love that advice about the soap!😂😂😂
I love this guy
A positive attitude is what it takes, you live your life how you want. I wanted to share the same roof with my father, but sometimes we lost the battle against time. Keep doing with stuff and you will always be ok.
Was your dog a Corgi?
thumbs up for the doraemon pillow. 100% classy!! greets from canada.
I spent the first half of this video imaging your dad's inner monologue: "...git outta da way from the tube ya nit."
like your content❤
This content is right up there with the Redman episode of MTV Cribs. This is classic!
I think so too
Where’s the electronic desk I sold you? 😂 might be moving back to Ching mai next year!
It’s in the bangkok house !
This has Ty Webb vibes. Love it.
The Matty boom boom room
This guy may have a career in comedy 😂 😂
Someone has the Scott Adams persuasion reading list. Absolute 👑
Iykyk
That marker pen remark had me 🤣
It’s a real problem sometimes
I would of thought your dad would have matching sunglasses with the hat, so we would know that you look like him! 😂
My Thai home is in Bangkok and Uttaradit.😎
The distance between Chiang Mai and Uttaradit is very close.
Yeah but Red Dragon Cafe closed down so now no incentive
@@GolfSidekick I will go to the north for two months from August.
I will also visit Chiang Mai⛳
@@GolfSidekick It is a pity.
It was also the purpose of going this time after watching the video introduction here.
@@downblows You know Red Dragon in Uttaradit? Oh man the Ba Ku Teh was so goooooodddd and the Vietnamese cofeee...
@@GolfSidekick
YES,YES,YES,YES👍
It's near Shiharat Hotel.
My man, the pace of your golf videos and the cadence of the play works. Then this comes out and I can’t hit a putt outside 3 feet😂
You’ve got this playa keep on keepin on
Didn’t know I was in for MTV Cribs Thailand edition 😂
Wadda house wadda playa
6:29 I was enjoying a plate of chutney chicken while watching this😂
Best episode of MTV Cribs ive seen 👏
Nice crib brother! Shout out from RSA. Also love my birding! Hit me up for a round if you ever in Durban.
And birding see some colorful ones. Rest of SA just little brown jobs
@GolfSidekick Selbourne is a great course for birds, and golf. Worth checking out next time you are around
Says its about 100 degrees.
Walking around in a long sleeve shirt.
How do you survive?
Warm blooded
Dude. That dogs name is so good. Laughing my ass off.
Hey u can see that no woman is living with u guys. 😂
But so cool u are sharing this vid Matt.
Wattaplaya!
I seem to think you were probably the first Playa on YT to do a break 100/90/80 series, and then a few others followed.. waddaya bet someone else will now a "what´s in the fridge?" ;)
Just curious, other than making furniture......and of course yt, what else do you do in Thailand for income?
there are many ways to make income online playa!
so many ways to break free
Always keep your beef tallow (or pork lard) when you roast beef (pork) or bones! FANTASTIC FAT for cooking or baking! Works like butter!
Yas we only use lard and tallow
Some olive if not rancid. Most is.
Other than that just bacon grease
I feel like there will always be a punchline. I laugh no matter what. You have nailed life and that is no joke :)
Wow - $1,500 per month. That's awesome. My Thai wife and I will be moving to Thailand in about 5 years. We travel to Thailand every year to see her family. I love the people and their culture. Have you had any luck learning the Thai language?
yeah not easy but also...i will be fully honest
not worth it
just learn basic how to order food correctly
the rest of the time, use google images, translate for individual words
i promise...best advice i can ever give you. its not worth th effort
@@GolfSidekick Haha...yes...I have been practicing ordering my food using Thai for a while now. I want to get a little better at speaking Thai each day. Almost like learning golf...I want to get a little better at it each day.
Love your videos by the way. You have a nice compact swing.
do you spend more on golf monthly than on living?
Yas indeed playa
😆🙃🤣
My mouth is watering thinking about the biltong... A few lads here in Ireland are making it now so I can get my fix of it.
SNAKE JUICE SENT ME!!!!
Could never survive that heat
12:46 i have never jumped so high in my life
High rise Condo for me in Thailand. House never. I know, cheaper rental for a house but too quirky for with stuff like not flushing the bog paper and outdoor kitchens. Also wildlife can get in too easy on the ground floor.
Too much internal noise for me with the riff raff living around you mere centimeters from your head when you’re sleeping. Cant make furniture
Do you own or rent? How much? Sorry if I missed that part but don’t think I heard it.
cant own here, not for foreigners
renting for $300
and rent another house in bangkok for $600
@@GolfSidekick oh not bad 👍
lol, April 1st was 3 months ago :)
Plus 2 for 9 holes this morning and a new Playa vid....$1500 a month? Can I have a farm for 10K a month?😀 I need a place to park my Backhoe.
Also I wish I had missed the bathroom details...😋 I was eating breakfast...
I've been waiting for this. Super interested in retirement overseas.
This just confirms why I will retire in Colombia and not Thailand
@@LuisFigo4this just confirms while I’ll retire in amurica.
I’d recommend retiring elsewhere if I’m honest with you. South America sounds great. Not SE asia bro.
@@GolfSidekick my wife is Colombian and we got another 20 years till retirement.
She wants to go to Thailand and party though
I mean come on now @GolfSidekick as the bumper sticker says, “Texas, hell it’s bigger than France”
Biltong is life
