    -----------------------------------------
    In Thailand, I live pretty well. It's warm and we are never cold, except December to February in the morning in Chiang Mai. That's when we go birding in the mountains for days on end, listening to the wind whistle through the pine trees.
    I don't only live in Chiang Mai. I also stay in Bangkok and a southern town in Thailand. I rent another house in Bangkok and there is a home in the south too.
    I left South Africa with the goal of never returning as a resident. Since then, I have created that reality through pro active steps to ensure I never HAVE to go back. I've been out here 10 years now and may be looking for a move soon.
    We mainly eat imported meats and butters and cheese as the stuff we like and grew up eating is not found here of any decent quality.
    We make our own biltong, boerewors and malva pudding. All the South African comfort foods. I might be Lithuanian, but South Africa was where I spent most of my life so that will never leave me.
    It's a great life playas. Don't let it get you down. You could always have a squat toilet. Exactly.

    Do you have any tips on keeping golfing costs down here (I'm in Bangkok but I mean Thailand in general)? I'm new to the game (literally started playing a few months ago and recently joined my first golf club) but it's proving to be quite a costly hobby here, at least compared to England. It seems to me that caddy fees + caddy tips + green fees (when playing away) + golf supplies + other incidentals + driving range / simulator fees = 30k THB/month minimum (on top of the cost of golf club membership), just to play around 2-3 rounds/week (I could play every day in England for less than half as much). Am I missing a trick?

    • @GolfSidekick
      @GolfSidekick  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Play sport days at the courses midweek. They have certain days that are much cheaper than others in the week, usually before 7am or after 11am etc
      Play upcountry courses midweek.
      Skip the sim, go to the range - you can find them near army bases for like 50 baht per tray maximum. Sometimes as low as 30 baht per tray.
      Avoid weekends.
      Get 2nd hand balls.
      But yeah not much you can do. I spend about that much often more per month with the channel.

    You fellas look happy but good Lord that is spartan, especially for grown men! You should come to America. You could get a place 3 times as nice with a country view in North Carolina. Heck Pinehurst alone has like 20 courses.

    High rise Condo for me in Thailand. House never. I know, cheaper rental for a house but too quirky for with stuff like not flushing the bog paper and outdoor kitchens. Also wildlife can get in too easy on the ground floor.
