Exactly, and it's very evident when parenting hasn't been done well. Not that it's always the parent's fault when a child grows into a less than honorable person or worse.

I disagree with that! My wife and I have seven. My wife is very organized and had them sleeping through the night by 2 months old! The hardest is when they learn to walk...no wait, it's when they learn to say "No!" ...wait, it's when they are in their teens!...no, wait!....

I hope they take to it and love every second of it. Some don't, and I was one that didn't. I'd go back and find a woman that didn't want children if I could do all over it again. Really, people need to think about having children very heavily before taking the dive. Love isn't enough. If you don't have the heart for a lifetime of commitment (for something other than your partner) then kids aren't for you.

Brad's totally right about the crossing the street thing. I've never actually crossed the street to avoid passing by anyone but depending on how they look I've definitely had that moment of panic like "oh shit is something about to happen" many times and it's not because of people's race, it's because of how they carry themselves and how they're dressed. If you look like a criminal hoodlum people are going to treat you like a criminal hoodlum. If you're dressed nice and take care of yourself people are going to treat you well. I've lived in both California and Texas and it's been the same in both states, nobody cares about your race, they care about how you present yourself.

Just the other day, my new boss was telling me about her two dogs, when she showed me the photos of her pitbulls, and then casually mentioned, "they were rescued."
My mind immediately flashed back to this Bill Burr comedy bit, and for a moment there, I was tempted to send her a link to his pitbull story. But then I thought to myself, "She's a sweet woman, and quite possibly the nicest boss I ever had, sooo . . . maybe this time I'll just leave well enough alone."

I said it when y'all first broke the news and I'll say it again. Your kids will have the benefit, above other kids, of having you as parents. You're going to be great at it. I was a #3 son and the back of my head is flat as a board..I am told it is because when i was a newborn I spent way too much time laying on my back and my skull became flat. Don't know if that is true but I believe it because when I asked my mom where my newborn pictures were the first picture she had of me was my first birthday..I asked her why and she said because I was old news. I wasn't the hardest job my mother ever had.

Raising 7 kids (5 of ours and 2 foster children) when your husband suddenly dies and your mother dies months later tested me more than anything. Grieving the 2 closest people to me with 7 kids also grieving both 7 different ways, knowing if I did it wrong it would affect their entire lives, I would rather fighting a fire or deep sea fishing.

We recently took in a red nosed pitbull from a neighbor who could no longer care for him, and I've definitely noticed that people cross the street when they see me walking him. Which makes no sense to me, he's very lean, around 60 lbs, afraid of puddles, and the only thing he's shown any interest in attacking is the vacuum cleaner. Meanwhile our other dog is a Great Pyrenees, she's 85 lbs, double coated so she seems even larger than she is, and overall looks like a polar bear, and people are just like, "Aw, can I pet your dog?"

Talking about setting up someone's future by being a mother, there's a difference between difficult, and important. Motherhood isn't difficult, especially when you're in a proper nuclear family. But it is important, on both parents particularly the father, shaping the children to be decent adults. It's actually incumbent on the father to determine how the children turn out ultimately, for good or bad.
