@@XViTNg I've watch a lot of reactions for this. What I've come to a conclusion of is the difference in comedy acts today, compared to the Vaudeville days this humor comes from. Most are use to the comic to come out, say hello, and tell jokes. This comedy was made for set changes during live performances. They had like 4-5 minutes to keep a crowd interested. It wasn't so much the humor of this as it is keeping one occupied and in your seat. That is a very difficult thing to do. Their whole routine are 4-5 minute skits, with quick delivery and those two were some of the best at it. This wasn't flawless, they do this skit far better than this. They made mistakes in this one, their just good at covering them up.

Bud Abbott stated that it was taken from an older routine called "Who's The Boss?", a performance of which can be heard in an episode of the radio comedy program It Pays to Be Ignorant from the 1940s. After they formally teamed up in burlesque in 1936, he and Costello continued to hone the sketch. It was a big hit in the fall of 1937, when they performed the routine in a touring vaudeville revue called Hollywood Bandwagon.
In February 1938, Abbott and Costello joined the cast of The Kate Smith Hour radio program and the sketch was first performed for a national radio audience on March 24 of that year.
Abbott and Costello performed "Who's on First?" numerous times in their careers, rarely performing it exactly the same way twice. They did the routine for President Franklin Roosevelt several times.
In 1956, a gold record of "Who's on First?" was placed in the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York. A video (taken from The Naughty Nineties) now plays continuously on screens at the Hall.
In 1999, Time named the routine Best Comedy Sketch of the 20th Century.
An early radio recording from October 6, 1938, was placed in the Library of Congress's National Recording Registry in 2003.[9]
In 2005, the line "Who's on First?" was included on the American Film Institute's list of 100 memorable movie quotations.

They also did a whole series of really wonderful, funny, light movies around monster characters that I loved as a kid, too. They were so well crafted and never 'blue'. Lou had a son, Lou Jr., that drowned as a toddler in the family pool. Totally devastated Lou for the rest of his life.
Lou wanted to do something to help the heartbreak and keep it from happening to other families and he was one of the first in the US to campaign for water safety and swimming lessons for children.

Y'know, there were other similar episodes. Cecil B. DeMille lived next to W. C. Fields in the '20s into the '30s. Cecil's daughter married Anthony Quinn and, as a wedding gift, Cecil B. gave this big ol' house to the young couple. Their first daughter wandered the backyard for months and, when she was 4, she wandered into W. C.'s yard, into his pool, and drowned. Long before anyone considered fences.

I took a cassette recording of the skit into my 10th-grade English class. We were reading it and I was so irritated at how badly my classmates were butchering it.

My class in forth grade tried to do this routine (it was in the 80's mind you) and I was told by the teacher a few times to keep it down since I was laughing. The class was butchering it as well but we still got the joke. Finally the teacher brought in a recording of it just like you did so we could hear how it was really performed. Our class was visited by two other teachers from other classes and told to keep the laughing to a minimum because it was disrupting the neighboring classrooms.

@@Smokie_666 I remember one of my teachers chasing a student around the class yelling at him (when they still could, lol), and witnessing his dentures falling out and skidding on the floor, the classroom of students burst out laughing so hard and loudly that the other students from the other classes came over to find out what was so funny. The very next day, we had dentures carved into some of the wooden desks to remind us of the laugh we had, unfortunately, at the expense of that teacher. I'm sorry, but, it was hilarious at the time.

Bud Abbott and Lou Costello were one of the greatest comedy acts in all of entertainment. Their comedic timing was so great that when they were refused a spot on a popular radio show, they did a show at a theater on the next block and out-drew the radio show. The station offered them a spot on the following week's show, and they (to use the old time colloquialism) "Killed it". Some of the audience were literally on the floor laughing in hysterics.

The truly amazing thing about the skit is that it is not just about baseball but it has the rhythm of baseball. They had to have been massive fans of the game and thought one day what if we did a baseball skit that sounds like baseball looks. The bit is like a bases loaded play with a short ground ball to the short stop.
    Brilliant.
