That was an excellent way to place the idea in time. Well done. Although I might add that, while they may have been the style in public, TV tends to lag because advertisers are so fearful. Maybe there were some isolated examples, but the original Star Trek was where a lot of boys got their first good weekly looks at mini skirts in action. Thanks to that, and her beauty, a lot of guys had their first crushes on Yeoman Janice Rand from the original series.

I was a little girl back then and had dresses with matching hot pants (including a purse). I wore the hip huggers (they call the low rise now), and the light blue cat eye glasses.
I remember in the late 60's early 70's being a dude i really enjoyed seeing women wearing mini skirts and daisy duke shorts with halter tops.

When this came out in 1966 Nancy's father Frank Sinatra was absolutely universally known as a superstar, not just for his music but acting with the Rat Pack (Oceans 11) and his best performance ever (Manchurian Candidate, a masterpiece of a film).
Nancy had really big shoes to fill and she knocked it out of the park. Bravo to her.
That last dance on the fade out is called "The Pony"
This song was written by Lee Hazelwood, an amazing songwriter. He and Nancy Sinatra worked together quite a bit and released a record together with songs Some Velvet Morning and Summer Wine. They also did a cover of the Johnny Cash and June Carter song Jackson. All worth checking out!
The lyrics are a solid example of "Lee Hazelwoodisms". Though Nancy had her own talent, her career didn't really takeoff until Lee came along.
HIGHLY recommend his album 'Trouble is a Lonesome Town'.

Gotta check out Nancy Sinatra's "other end of the spectrum" song "Bang, Bang". Also written by Lee Hazeltine, it is a much more serious and emotional song, but Nancy nails the feeling - so much so that Quentin Tarantino used it as the theme for "The Bride" in "Kill Bill" ...
Bang Bang is an awesome song. Tarantino just nails it when he does a movie soundtrack.
It's Lee Hazlewood not Hazeltine. They duetted on several hit songs and albums and he was her longtime producer. Lots of great records to be found there. Try Summer Wine as a song to start... Boots was classic and kicked butt.

Fun Fact...this was a year away from "The Summer of Love"....an era where people (who are now in their 70s) partied harder than ANY generation before or since. The music was GREAT, the "love" was free, and the drugs were plentiful. Watch Woodstock (69) and realize those people are dead now, are grandparents, or both. They gave 15 people VD that weekend, did literal Owsley Acid (pure LSD..not the LSD-25 of recent generations), and then did Qualudes to come down the next day. Showing a little butt cheek meant nothing...girls were naked in the mud at Woodstock and topless at Golden Gate Park. ALWAYS remember that....our grandparents partied harder than we do or than our grandchildren likely will. While TV wouldnt even let a couple share a bed, the real society was watching X rated movies like Deep Throat and Behind The Green Door in regular movie theaters and having "Love Ins" (stinky hippie orgies with hair EVERYWHERE). Marijuana was EVERYWHERE and cornfed farm boys from Iowa came home from Vietnam with addiction to black tar heroin. Zoomers and Millenials (sp) have no concept of partying. Hitting a vape pen and banging a girl you met on Tinder? Do you realize Stevie Nicks had banged everybody in your parents music collection AND burned a hole through the cartilage in her nose with frequent cocaine use by the time she was your age? Did you know the average dose/hit of LSD-25 is in the 25 to 35 Mic range...and that the first night Jim Morrison ever sang "The End" live, he was pulled out from under a bed on nearly 10,000 Mics of White Rabbit (pure powdered) LSD? Tell me again how lit your rave was, Skyler.

Nancy is the daughter Frank Sinatra. She was very popular in the 60s. She sang a song with her dad called "Something Stupid" in 1966. She also teamed up with her producer Lee Hazelwood in the 60s and made some music together. Lee has a very haunting voice and together with Nancy they sound fantastic. Some of their songs include "Jackson", Some Velvet Morning" and their biggest hit was "Lady Bird".
Love this song, so catchy. Nancy is so pretty too.
Another classic. Fun fact: Nancy Sinatra sang the theme for one of my favorite Bond films: "You Only Live Twice." Check it out if you get a chance.
And while they're at it Duran Duran's Bond theme - A View to a Kill, is excellent also.
Although the outfits were sometimes quite revealing back then, the overtly sexual twerking and grinding so common in pop music performances nowadays would have been unthinkable. That's the major difference between then and now.

In the 1950's - my mom wore jeans while walking in San Francisco and an older lady stopped her and scolded her for not wearing a dress - that it was 'unlady-like' to be wearing pants in the City. Years later when my parents would see young women in revealing clothing - they would joke that if only that old lady from San Francisco could see these young girls today. Anway - i enjoyed your reaction and thank you.

I loved this a little kid. My daddy bought me some boots and I would stomp around
I was 9 years old when this song came out in 1966. All the girls in my neighborhood wanted boots like these after Nancy came out with this song. We called them go-go boots back then. My mom bought me a pair for Christmas that year. It's funny how music can bring back so many memories. I remember dancing on the hood of our car in those boots. Like Nancy did coming down those stairs, I gracefully danced from the hood of the car stepping down on the trunk, then on the street. I memorized every word of this song and made a whole routine and danced with friends in the neighborhood in those "sexy" boots when I was young. We also danced in the street to Harper Valley PTA. Don't worry I didn't hurt the car at all, back then they were solid and never made any dents when you climbed on top. Nancy Sinatra is Frank Sinatra's daughter.

My mum used to play this all the time when I was a kid. It’s beehive central. That descending ‘doing doing doing’ near the end… gets me every time.
The dancing is ‘gogo dancing’ (kids today….). For what it’s worth, gogo dancing was always a little edgy because it had its roots in strip clubs and bars. But it was very popular when I was a kid. I nearly got trampled by adults doing it in our front room during parties more than once.
It just occurred to me I have the original vinyls of this…best played super loud btw.
PS look up Jane Fondas movie Barbarella if you want an idea about 1960s/70s raunch. That’ll make you laugh.

Find and watch the documentary on the Wrecking Crew -- the California studio musicians who changed the world -- and hear her explain how she modified the bass line on Boots what it is. Nancy Sinatra was a very strong artist in the 1960s, and Boots was just the start of things. Love the wholesome girls in the video, no toothpick models.

I am encouraging you to not be too discouraged in the long run as you are both such interesting individuals and like many, I want the best for you. a lot of times, the video is a distraction from the song, especially for a first listen. i'd like to see some first time reactions to songs with no music nor lyric video...just a genuine listen. it's probably just me, though.
I grew up in 60’s and mum made all our clothes…she was highly talented seamstress. I remember having outfits like these in grade school, but with a pair of short matching shorts.
When this song came out all of us had to have a pair of boots. lol

Those boots (and short skirts) were called GO-GO boots as in GO GO dancer which was a term for Stripper or near stripper dancing in clubs were men went to oogle women on stage. It's a classic and iconic - I believe nightclubs today should suddenly change the vibe and tempo of the clubs and suddenly put this song on with the video - the youngin's would be blown away and that club would be the rage to go to.....

The 60s was the age of the mini skirt. It was a part of the overall movement of those times. A time when free love was a mantra and fashion followed with mini skirts, hot pants hip hugger bell bottoms, and women went braless. It was a wild crazy time.
My 7th grade teacher told us about how he came back from Vietnam and his mind was blown away by all the miniskirts back then
Our parents never thought we'd find out what music they were listening to or the dance moves they were doing. Look at the group KISS they wore wild clothes and shoes, and the makeup was crazy and that was in the 70's but then groups like Twisted Sister came along and people most likely our parents freaked out, yet that fad started in their generation.

This was during the Vietnam Era. I was a kid then but it was a first for me to see shorts, boots, and females turning around and shaking their butts at the camera. The lyrics are awesome and it is about vindictive behavior. Rule number one, never screw over a Sinatra.

Megadeth did a cover of this song. It was actually removed from the album it appeared on due to licensing conflicts, I believe.

And that was probably on TV at the time too. I remember watching Ronny Prophet do the "Harold the Horny Toad" bit on TV in the 70's and was shocked as a kid.
