An All-Hands on Deck Approach to Improving Cardiometabolic Outcomes in People with Mental Illness

- Dr. O’Dell (M.D.) is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at University of Nebraska Medical Center. She is the founder and director of the ASPIRE clinic, a multidisciplinary treatment team housed in the psychiatry department at UNMC, which is dedicated to providing evidence-based, recovery-oriented, person- and family-centered care for people with psychotic disorders. She is an advocate for improving access to quality care for people with psychosis, and currently serves as a delegate to the American Psychiatric Association Assembly.
Dr. Amber Brown Keebler, MD, believes that revolutionizing primary healthcare models to address cardiometabolic risk reduction is the key to improving both individual and population level health outcomes. She has collaborated interdepartmentally at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) to establish a multidisciplinary team through the Active Support for Psychosis in Recovery (ASPIRE) Program to provide comprehensive, “whole person healthcare” to people with severe mental illness. She is completing her Ph.D. through the UNMC Clinical Translational Mentored Scholars Program where her focus is evaluating the intersectionality of mental health and health outcomes. Dr. Brown Keebler is actively involved in teaching and mentoring medical students and residents at UNMC with a goal of promoting clinical research and high-quality primary care. She is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics and Lipidology with a clinical practice focused on primary care and cardiometabolic risk reduction.
