How To Fix No Apple CarPlay / Android Auto in a Kia (and probably Hyundai)

- Every so often phone projection (Apple CarPlay / Android Auto) stops working in our Kia EV6, and the car doesn't see that there is a phone plugged into the data port. This video outlines how to resolve the problem.

For all those coming many months later, this didn’t work for me at first, but it worked after I deleted my phone from the car, then deleted the car from my Bluetooth, then finally, I end the reset button for about ten seconds. Then, and only then it worked.

This didn’t help meeee 😭😭😭 I did an iOS update to 17.6.1 and now it won’t connect. Husbands phone connects fine with older iOS. I can’t uninstall! 😫😫

‘23 Hyundai …… deleted from Bluetooth, my phone, then did the reset (newer units the reset is to the right of the screen on the media unit itself)…..worked like a charm!!! Thank you!

Were you having this issue with just your phone connecting to your car or any phone? I did reboot my infotainment system but I don’t know if I “forgot” the car from my phone and phone from car first. I connected my husbands phone no problem, he hasn’t updated yet and has a lower iOS. I was in the phone for 2 hr with Apple doing all the things to no resolution. Also Apple said they can’t uninstall the update. So frustrating. Have only had my car 2 months and CarPlay won’t work.

Likely. Have a look for that little button on the dash.
Do I need to do it every time the iPhone disconnects? It happens every day
You shouldn't need to do it that often. Some Kia/Hyundai models have updates for the infotainment available online, it might be worth checking if your car has one. If it's disconnecting every day, something else is probably going on.

Is the connection wireless or not?
Our car does not have native wireless app projection. I don't know that it matters for this though. This reboots the media interface, so it should resolve connection issues for both mechanisms.
Do you still use the Carlinkit?

Unfortunately, it's possible that this is a hardware issue. Some of these cars have dodgy USB ports.

2023 Telluride… I tried this and still no success. I don’t see a CarPlay icon on my display. There’s is a “phone projection” icon and Apple CarPlay is enabled … Bluetooth does connect. Tried many different cables and all charge my iPhone but can not get CarPlay to pop up 😢 help

This did not fix the problem on my Kia EV6 2023 model year. It's a known problem with apparently no easy fix.
If this didn't fix it, the problem is probably the USB port. Apparently, KIA didn't attach them properly in some cars.
Yes, it's an internal connection issue - because my problem is intermittent loss of Apple CarPlay connection, not a complete disconnect.
I was hopeful, but it didn't help.

If you have steering wheel mounted media controls: hold down the vol down and next buttons at the same time, after about 20-30s the console will reboot.

I have a 2021 Kia telluride. My android was working perfectly for a year, now I can no longer play my text messages out loud, not can I use Google voice command. What's wrong. It's driving me nuts. Please help
Mine did that after it went in for a service. There’s a setting buried deep in the phone for Google. It’s caused by the fact the Android auto app is not standalone as such it’s now part of Google drive etc. on my phone I had to go into all type google settings to find it. I had to be stopped and restart the car after. Sorry I can’t remember where it actually was but it took me quite a while to find with just opening every app setting I could

Yes loses volume freezes blacks out the only way you can get it to work is switch off the car take out the key and restart it again

Kia/Hyundai also has an above average USB port failure rate. IIRC, the solder points fail either from heat or normal use. If you've already tried a different cable and rebooting your phone, I would probably make a service appointment to have it looked at. Sorry I don't have a better answer.
Depending on which model you have, it can be your CarPlay USB. I have a 23 Forte GT and the CarPlay was acting up. Disconnecting and reconnecting at random times and it was really frustrating. Went a couple platforms to try and find info and on Reddit there’s a lot of users with the same issue so I went ahead and told my service manager the problem and what I found online so since my car is still in warranty, he went ahead and ordered a new CarPlay USB and installed. Never had the issue again, fingers crossed. Definitely let your dealer know and if they shut you down, you leave a review and email the service manager. Others did the same with switching their CarPlay USB and seems to be the fix. One Reddit user stated their dealer told them it was faulty from the factory. Good luck
Not working tried deleting Android Auto tried updating car software and my phone nothing is working
Unfortunately, it's likely to be a hardware issue then. Might get lucky with a different cable, but it's also possible that the USB port is wonky. Some Hyundai/Kia have this issue.

This didn’t help mine, I connect my phone and it shows shows the charging on my phone and then it stops and android auto never works. And with the iPhone it doesn’t even show a charging symbol on the phone
I've seen quite a few reports around dodgy USB ports on Kia/Hyundai cars. If you've already tried a different cable, it could be that.

Weirdest thing, it works again today.
Mine just randomly disconnects and then reconnects.
That's probably an issue with the cable or the port in the car.
My 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid SX-Prestige disconnects from my phone (and therefore loses Apple CarPlay) multiple times each TRIP. I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t even use Apple CarPlay anymore because of it and just use the Navigation system
Our EV6 has had a couple updates that you can download and apply with a USB drive. Might be worth seeing if there are some for your car. If not, I would definitely complain to the service department. That shouldn't happen.

@@MissingRemote so I tried to find an update and it looks like they don’t have one. But I tried hitting the reset button and it seems to have fixed it for now! Hopefully that’s all it takes!
