    I was also getting frustrated by losing connection with my phone, or no connection at all. I tried different cables, cleaning the USB port in my phone, but no succes. Somebody on FB pointed me to this video and that did the trick. It is very easy to disassemble the panel. For me it was enough to reconnect the white connector and I have a stable Android Auto again in my EV6. Thanks Alex!

    The video was very helpful. My wires were position a bit different than the video but it still splits into to two cables connections, one to the head unit and the other to power/USB detection. I have seemed to fixed the problem which seems to be the connection of the power/USB detection cable. What I did was to open the panel, as the video outlines, straighten out the crunched wires to the plastic connector, then push it tight and wrapped tightly with black electrical tape to hold the connector together. I did not wrap the thin wires to each side of the connector to tight so they would not break over time, just enough to hold in place from bending. I also looked at the cable to the head unit, but it is very buried under the upper panel, it was hard to get up there with my hands. I don't think actually that was the problem cable as the other is the one that has a wire called "USB Detection". I believe that wire to the USB port via that connector was just going in and out because the connector is not the best and is not tight. Hopefully this helps.. if you are fixing this for yourself, focus on that connector :)

      I've heard others say that they focused on the white connector because it is easily accessible and did not touch the blue connector and find out they had to take everything apart again and replug the blue connector to fix the issue. My recommendation is to do both while you have the car apart.

    So far so good. My 2023 Ioniq 5 has an extra bolt at the base of the pocket. The connector is also fixed to the other end of the console. Thank you for the video. Now here’s to hoping the 4 different wireless CarPlay adapters I returned work 😂

    Tanks for your video.
    I have now implemented the instructions. In my case (EV6 built July 2022), both plug connections were not fully plugged together.
    Both the white connector and the blue one were loose and could be pushed a few millimeters into the connector.
    That's why I just pushed them together and didn't unplug them and plug them back together again.
    The hardest part of the whole operation was getting one of the two black side pins that hold the plastic cover back in the hole because it had come open at the top and didn't fit in the hole anymore. I then simply took some tape and glued the 4 elements of the pin together at the top. Then I was able to slide the pin into the hole and lock it as well.
    Another hint. I had to use quite a bit of force to unclip the cover at the top of the two clips. I then used a screwdriver to get my fingers between the top and bottom covers and then forcefully pulled the cover forward.
    A short test drive of 3 minutes at least didn't show any more problems, this morning I already had 3 dropouts in 3 minutes when using Apple Carplay.

  • @Cybrdude

    Checked today -- the connector between USB-A Port and the Infotainment Center is not fully inserted. I pushed it in 3-4mm, then it clicked. Just took a one hour drive which included some know trouble spots with bumps, not a single disconnect. Appears to have resolved the issue. Will test more tonight.
    Good call dude -- issue appears to be that someone during assembly failed to fully insert the male connector into the female socket.

    • @alexdrinkwater28
      @alexdrinkwater28  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some people have reported a connector not fully inserted, however most report everything is connected fine but unplugging the two connectors and repluging them still fixed their issue.

    • @Cybrdude
      @Cybrdude 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alexdrinkwater28 - if a reset alone resolves the issue if probably wasn't fully inserted and they didn't realize. There is a small amount of play, even when fully insert - that is why I wrapped electrical tape around the connector.
      May also be that aome have wires or a connector that is compromised, resulting in signal attenuation.
      Regardless, thanks for the video. :-)

    @leel3668 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I also put electrical tape around the connectors to give it a better connection. If you just pull on the to connectors just a little you will see some play between the two. By putting tape on the white connectors to tighten the play up and it has stopped. I think it is cause there is so much play between the connectors that it is just enough that it is causing that. Just my 2 cents. Thanks for the making this how to video! Helps a lot!

    This worked perfectly. Disconnected both and then just securely reconnected them. It has been working perfectly for over a week. Mine would disconnect from CarPlay at least 8 to 10 times on my 30 minute drive. Now, it never disconnects. Only took 10 minutes to do.

    Thanks for this fix. I've had my EV6 since May. The dropping of the USB connection, both by wire and by wireless dongle, has been annoying - especially when trying to sing along to my favorite songs! I watched your video and gave it a whirl. A scraped knuckle later, I couldn't get the white power connection apart, but noticed there was a lot of wiggle in the plugs. Put my first aid skills to use and wrapped that connection with electrical tape in a figure-8 pattern, as tight as I could pull them together. Took a test drive down a bumpy road, wait... I live in Louisiana... ALL the roads are bumpy here. Took a 20 minute drive and had ZERO disconnection events. Fingers crossed this streak continues!!

    Hi! Thank you so much for sharing this! I was so annoyed at my Ioniq 5 disconnecting my iphone after only a few minutes of driving each and every time. I followed the same steps, although it looks slightly different than what you're showing in the video in my car (French late 2022 Ioniq 5). The first time, I tried only to unplug / replug the first cable and it didn't help. I did it again after a few days, unplugging and replugging back the blue cable as well, and it did the trick! I'm so happy I can finally enjoy carplay the way it's supposed to work. How can Hyundai not fix this!? Cheers mate!

    To everyone with this disconnect issue - just disconnect the power (white) clip that feeds the USB, and leave the data port blue clip connected. This will solve the problem. Get yourself a wireless carplay or Android adapter, and your life is all set. The reason the disconnect is happening is because of voltage fluctuations in the USB due to the power feed, and the USB port resets itself. I tried the grease, replugging, and replacing the port, but nothing fixed the issue until I disconnected the power side. After disconnecting the power side, the hardwired phones will still show charging, but it is charging at an extremely slow pace. Recommend getting a wireless adapter and using another port for charging. Your problems will be solved. 😃

    I’m not sure the white connector is in any way related to the USB data. After opening the USB receptacle shell and inspecting the PCB, I could see no connection between both cables. The white connector only seems to power a small white LED that makes the port easier to find at night. I tested this by disconnecting the white connector and only keeping the blue connector plugged in. On the blue connector side, I measured up to 2 amps at 5V to charge the phone and stream CarPlay to the infotainment unit.
    There seems to be a small inline fuse or PTC on the D+ and D- lines which could be responsible for all of our woes. If it is indeed thermally sensitive, then disconnecting the white connector which powers the LED would reduce the heat building up in the USB receptacle.

    I am struggling to get the screws BACK into the fixing lugs, and would appreciate some help on how to get these back in. They spread open and it's very awkward to get them to close up and slide in at the same time - I haven't been able to do it. - Do I use brute force to shove it back in? I'm worried about breaking them. Sorry to be a pain, but an explainer would be useful, or even a quick video if you're feeling generous.
    This is an AMAZING diy FIX and I thank you for taking the time to post it. It has worked for me and clearly a number of others. It must be something that Kia are doing at factory which is causing this systematic error to happen periodically (I'm guess 1 in 50 cars).

    Update on this one for me: Although I managed to get it to work for a little while, it finally started acting up again after a few days. I tried several times and always got the same result. I ended up bringing the car to the dealership, I'm not sure exactly what they did, and within an hour, they fixed the issue for good, or at least it seems so for now (3 weeks after the intervention). That's without changing any parts.

    Not sure how this helps? You're just disconnecting the cables, disconnecting the USB from the panel would do the same.
    Are the contacts not solid in the plugs?
    Issue I have found is if you use climate control from the app. It starts the USB and if my Carsifi adapter doesn't find my phone it times out. I then have to unplug the USB to restart the adapter
