I looooves this song. Give credit first to Seals and Crofts themselves for writing and singing. This really swings like a jazz tune, with that walking bass line, the flutes. Now, the lead guitarist on this was the great Louie Shelton. Shelton also produced this. He enlisted several L.A. pros for the session....bassist Wilton Felder, keyboardist David Paich. I don't know which of several first call drummers he used. Seals and Crofts had some other hits I can recall...."Get Closer" and "Hummingbird" come to mind.
I'm partial to Summer Breeze and Get Closer... So many wonderful bands and artists in this genre: Bread, America, Orleans, Firefall, England Dan And John Ford Coley, Paul Davis, Little River Band, Pablo Cruise, Ambrosia, Stephen Bishop, Pure Prairie League, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Jackson Browne, Jonathan Edwards, Boz Scaggs...
Beautiful indeed, thanks! As suggested by someone else below already, Hummingbird would be a fine next choice. I could easily mention a lot more titles but I won't... But I also suggest you try and listen to some 70s work by the Strawbs, for instance New World, or their modest hit, Lay Down. Regards Paul
You guys should check out the 5th Dimension with the song Up,up and away, Wedding Bell Blies. Or Together Let" s Find Love. I know you're gonna like them
Yes! Finally more Seals and Crofts, after Jim Seals passed no one has really listened to them. Hummingbird and We May Never Pass This Way Again are other examples of their timeless music ✨
Great underrated duo. Their light harmonies and easy listening style helped defined 70's soft rock. Their other great hits include: "Hummingbird", "I'll Play For You", "Get Closer", "We May Never Pass This Way, "You're The Love".
How were they underrated? They had a lot of hits - you listed several. I'm sure their songs got good reviews back in the day. Not sure if they won any awards, but still got plenty of radio play.
But, Kelly... How could they be the soundtrack of your childhood when some guy above here said they were "underrated"?! Guess he thinks no one ever heard of them til now... haha stupid kids.
Same here. Those same two songs take me back to being a teen and spending almost every day of the summer of '73 at the city pool. The local Top 40 station always played over the pool's PA system so anything that got a lot of airplay that summer takes me right back. Another one on that list is Simon and Garfunkel's Kodachrome.
One of the great duos of the 70's. Beautiful, balanced harmonies. And such a great song. Seals & Crofts made lovely, thoughtful music and had a number of hits. None tops "Summer Breeze" for me, which will always be on my all-time fave songs list. I wouldn't associate Seals & Crofts with a smoky jazz lounge, though. These days, they'd be put in the "Yacht Rock" category and really, that would be more their vibe. Peace. ✌🏽
i would'nt put the tune in either catagory , for the simple reason that i was kid when this song came out and when i hear it now it makes me think of my chidhood of carefree summers , summer camp , playing in the street with my siblings and friends , trying to stay out of trouble , aw man take me away fellas !
Diamond Girl charted at #6 on Billboard in 1973, every song in this time period that was Top 10 worthy and beyond is still being played today some 50yrs later. Boomers out there, we truly were the lucky ones...
The keyboard player, David Paich and drummer Jeff Porcaro went on to form the band TOTO. One of my favourite Louis Shelton guitar parts was from "Last Train to Clarksville" for the Monkees. The duo, England Dan & John Ford Coley have been mentioned in earlier comments. As it happens, that duo also provided backing vocals on some of the tracks on the album "Diamond Girl". I always love seeing how many musicians that worked on the music of the 60's and 70's collaborated together. 🎸😎
"Get Closer" is fabulous, stayed in Billboards Top Ten for weeks! Great harmonizing female vocals, (sounding like gospel voices.) "We May Never Pass This Way Again," so soulful, brilliant harmonizing and light, airy, philosophical lyrics! You'll LOVE them💖
Amber ! I swear you always get all the things that I feel in the songs ! I love it ! Both of y’all get it ! Hell , I have friends who don’t get it and they’re my age n older ( I’m 46 and female ) . But to see a young couple enjoying this together brightens my day . I have worked so hard today and I’m all achy , tired , exhausted. But this popped up and gave me that boost to drive home to . So thank you , Jay and Amber ! Thank you for truly HEARING every note and appreciating it . Y’all are the BEST !!! 😊
Seals and Crofts are great because even though they get pegged in that "soft-rock" category, many of their tunes have really unconventional twists and turns harmonically and melodically. They really embraced branching out and trying different things musically.
Seals and Crofts' second hit single after "Summer Breeze" was "Hummingbird". It's very beautiful and a personal favorite. BTW, Jimmy Seals' brother is long-time country singer Dan Seals.
You should try some more of Jim Seals younger brothers music! Dan Seals was part of the duet England Dan & John Ford Coley, and was a solo country artist in the 80's and 90's! Love is the Answer by England Dan & John Ford Coley is a good choice, or Everything that Glitters is not Gold by Dan Seals will amaze you!
This song reminds me of the best friend I had at 12. We are still friends and it's been 52 years. Whenever I see her it's like no time has past. I will love her the rest of my life.
Back when I was a kid riding my bike to the public pool in the 70's Seals & Crofts was always on the PA. Their music is always summer music to me and I smell Coppertone!
ROB! You need to play this for Amber around the house twice a month! She will love it every time it comes on. She'll remember how special she is to you.
Heard it a million times and this is the first time I’ve listened to the lyrics. Thanks for unburying these “gems,” “shining” them up, and making them “sparkle” once again.
Jeez!! These guys are genius it's astounding how instantly you're there! I'm a young kid in the late 70's and these tunes are everywhere..remember walking into the house on summer days and hearing this on the radio.
I think that Seals & Crofts is another one of those bands like Steely Dan, who has their own unique style and sound! Love their music and this is another great one!!❤ Glad you guys are enjoying all this great music from the past, great memories!!❤. Thanks!!
When I put my album of their greatest hits on several years ago, I was a little amazed and very gratified how quickly my teenagers took to their music.
I had the great good fortune to be seated next to Jim Seals on a flight in Texas in about 1972. A very pleasant guy to chat with. He was on his way to meet all of his compadres and begin a tour.
Love the great harmonies of Seals & Crofts. They were an American soft rock duo who had a lot of great songs in the 70's such as "Summer Breeze", "Get Closer", "We May Never Pass This Way (Again)", "Hummingbird", "I'll Play For You", "Castles In The Sand", "You're The Love" etc. Sadly Jim Seals passed away last year.
Jim Seals of Seals and Crofts had a younger brother named Dan whom he called England Dan because he was a Beatles fan. England Dan and John Ford Coley is a group you should listen to if you haven't. Their songs "I'd really love to see you tonight", "Nights are forever without you", and "Love is the Answer" were big hits and they had more.
70’s soft rock, groovy vibe that ‘swayed’ us; dancing, cleaning, working, exercising, driving, skating, riding and relaxing. Songs like this play on, in the background of our memoried souls. Amber, you shined like diamond while listening. Job well done.
Really good song from Seals and Croft, great guitar and backing. Hope you guys will do a reaction to 'Now and Then' the last Beatles song. Quite emotional when listened to with the video-Colin Ward
My late wife was a Dan Seals fan. We went to see him back when his solo career in country was taking off. Songs like "Everything that Glitters isn't Gold." were top of the charts and she had a great time although a little too much to drink :) Miss ya hon, coming home soon.
Thanks for taking me back to my teens loved Seals and Croft. My favorite is GET CLOSER. Takes me back to a little dive bar and every time this song came on the jukebox Jim Omler and I would dance even if he was shooting pool he put the game on pause and danced with me. Mind you nobody danced in this bar but everyone knew if we were in the bar and GET CLOSER came on we were going to dance. GOOD TIMES GOOD MEMORIES ❤❤❤❤❤
$2 is not enough. Y’all are fun to watch and an everyday visit to you brings back memories of my childhood to current times. However, you make the songs of my youth and on sound even better cause of your appreciation.
This song occupies a special place in my heart, to my "Diamonds Girl", who broke my heart, but that's the way of love. I heard a little Steely Dan in this tune as well.
I graduated high school in 1974, their song “We May never pass this way Again” was played during the ceremony. Also “We’ve Only Just Begun” by the Carpenters was played. Much cooler than Pomp and Circumstance!
Jim Seals' brother was 'England Dan' Seals...I was supposed to go to a dinner party in San Jose, Costa Rica in the mid-1970's where I would have met Jim & Ruby Seals, but I didn't make it...they lived there. Great music!
My brother keeps calling them, "Sid & Marty Kroftt" whenever their songs are on the radio. "Are they gonna sing about 'H.R. Pufnstuf' or 'Sigmund and the Sea Monsters'?" I know he's just kidding though, because I hear him singing along.
I saw these guys at an amphitheater in Waikiki in 1975. They were so chill and after the concert they came out to the edge of the stage and sat down and offered to share their Bahai Faith beliefs with anyone who wanted to know. Great reaction!
It's called the Waikiki Shell. Elvis performed there in the early 70's! I had the honor of performing there in 1979! It was bone chilling to stand on the same stage that The King stood on!
I saw them three times in concert, twice in downtown Chicago and once at a venue in one of our suburbs. After both downtown concerts they passed out booklets about the Baha'i faith and invited anyone who wanted to join them to go to the Baha'i Temple. The one temple in the U.S. is in Wilmette which is a North Shore suburb and about a 25 minute drive from downtown Chicago. Unfortunately I was not able to go either time, but I still have the booklet. The third time I saw them as they were leaving the stage they shook hands with some of the audience sitting in the bottom rows. I happened to be in the second row and Jimmy Seals shook my hand. I'm going to recommend three songs which are not part of their big hits, but are personal favorites of mine. They are "Windflowers", "Follow Me" and "The Boy Down The Road".
Another track that was right for the time in the early-mid 70s, but would likely not get off the ground today. I was a fair weather fan of theirs back in high school, but appreciate them much more now. Unfortunately, we lost Dash Crofts last year. If you'd like to check out something a little different of theirs, I'd look into "Dust on My Saddle" from the Diamond Girl album.
There will NEVER be another time for music like the music from the 70's.
Nothing will ever match the 1970’s,…. And i mean never!!!!!!!! Best time for music and growing up as a kid!!!!!!
Truth!
So true!! It was the best. I still listen to it.
60’s and 80’s might have something to say about that
The best ❣️
I looooves this song. Give credit first to Seals and Crofts themselves for writing and singing. This really swings like a jazz tune, with that walking bass line, the flutes. I saw them in concert in 1980. Fabulous!
That's a great 70's smooth sound.
LOVE this song. ❤

Listen to HUMMINGBIRD!!!!
Oh yes, a blast from the past.
Always thought it had a taste of jazz.
Oh My Love ... the voice

You should do their song "Hummingbird" (Amber will LOVE it).
"We May Never Pass This Way Again" is a great song of theirs and you will love it!
You guys should check out the 5th Dimension with the song Up,up and away, Wedding Bell Blies. Or Together Let" s Find Love. I know you're gonna like them
A great one!
Only group I ever knew that were Bahais
That was are class song 1976
@@aldenfukushima55I loved them so much. And later, couldn't get enough of Billy & Marilyn's "You Don't Be To Be A Star".
Yes! Finally more Seals and Crofts, after Jim Seals passed no one has really listened to them.
Hummingbird and We May Never Pass This Way Again are other examples of their timeless music ✨
W May Never Pass This Way Again is such a great song 🎶 ❤😊
Love both of those songs✌️
Agree! Both songs are total hits. You two still have more beautiful surprises coming.
Great underrated duo. Their light harmonies and easy listening style helped defined 70's soft rock.
Their other great hits include:
"Hummingbird", "I'll Play For You", "Get Closer", "We May Never Pass This Way, "You're The Love".
The King of Nothing
Their hit songs were really big hit songs, often hitting the top 5 of the charts back in the 70s.
they werent underrated....
How were they underrated? They had a lot of hits - you listed several. I'm sure their songs got good reviews back in the day. Not sure if they won any awards, but still got plenty of radio play.
Second “Get Closer”, great song
Seals & Crofts were part of the soundtrack of my childhood. This song and "Summer Breeze" can bring me right back to specific moments in time.
Totally agree. The sixteen year old me is right here whenever I listen to this song. Memories 💜💜
But, Kelly... How could they be the soundtrack of your childhood when some guy above here said they were "underrated"?! Guess he thinks no one ever heard of them til now... haha stupid kids.
Puts me in the back seat of my parents car.
Same here. Those same two songs take me back to being a teen and spending almost every day of the summer of '73 at the city pool. Seals & Croft “HUMMINGBIRD” 😊❤Such a great one!!! 😊
Couldn't agree more!! Hummingbird is a musical masterpiece
My absolute favorite!
Fantastic Song
A thousand times yes!!!
PLEASE REACT TO THIS SONG! Hummingbird is such a beautiful song.
Just great mellow vibes , “We May Never Pass This Way” or “Hummingbird “ are also good choices

They had a handful of great tunes, and this is one of them. I think "Hummingbird" should be next. I really love the bridge in that song. 🙂
Agreed! Some great changes in that song.
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "Get Closer" (featuring Carolyn Willis) and "We May Never Pass This Way (Again)" for song 3 and 4 from them!!!
Get Closer is my favorite. Speaking of Carolyn Willis, some music by The Honeycone would be nice. Want Ads. She was part of that group.
Diamond Girl charted at #6 on Billboard in 1973, every song in this time period that was Top 10 worthy and beyond is still being played today some 50yrs later. Boomers out there, we truly were the lucky ones...
A FAVORITE!!!! On my playlist for decades!! Thanks y’all! ❤❤❤❤

Love this song. You guys mention jazz a lot and should try, Take 5 by the Dave Brubeck Quartet. One of the first mainstream popular songs of jazz
Great Song but my favorite is “We May Never Pass this Way Again” by them. Check it out.
Yes, one of their best IMO
This is pure tee-shirt, blue jeans and bare feet in the sand bliss.
Yes--I'll second the motion---Check out "We May Never Pass This Way Again" , "Hummingbird" and "Summer Breeze"!!
Another great one from the early 70s. Definitely check out Hummingbird, We May Never Pass This Way Again and I'll Play For You.
I don’t know how a 7 or 8 min long track would work for your channel, but “Aja” by Steely Dan is epic.
These are the songs that really bring me back to the 70's! Thanks for the memories! ❤👍💯✌🇨🇦♥️
My graduation song in the mid 70's was "We may never pass this way again" by Seals & Crofts
My sister’s too! Same timeframe.
I don't remember having a graduation song, but that is a great one.
You should check out Ruby Jean and Billie Lee. One of my favorite, lesser know Seals & Crofts songs. Same album.
This was the first hit Jeff Porcaro and David Paich of Toto played on.
Very popular during early 70’s. Couldn’t turn on your car radio without hearing them. Nice memories.
Seals and Crofts are great because even though they get pegged in that "soft-rock" category, many of their tunes have really unconventional twists and turns harmonically and melodically. They really embraced branching out and trying different things musically.

They had two unique voices that paired so beautifully together. I saw them in '73 at the State Fairgrounds Arena. Great show. ☮💜🎶
Another free-flowing hippie vibe song Amber would love is "Fresh Air" by Quicksilver Messenger Service. Love you guys.
Wow! QMS, there’s a name I haven’t heard in forty years!
Phil Collins must've listened to A LOT of Seals & Crofts
get closer should be the next song from 1976
That flute was a piano roll. Awesome!
Still have this well-worn album, from its release... love everything about them. ❤
Once again this is the time when music was real. No electronic voice enhancements like the wanna-be musicians of today.
70's suggestion - "Most Popular Songs Each Month Of The 70's".
So many great songs by Seals and Crofts! I think you would like Get Closer!
I still have the vinyl album from when this came out! This is their signature tune. Great stuff!
I think that Seals & Crofts is another one of those bands like Steely Dan, who has their own unique style and sound! Love their music and this is another great one!!❤
Glad you guys are enjoying all this great music from the past, great memories!!❤. Thanks!!

SUCH GREAT HARMONIES!! Their music always seemed to remind me of SUMMER!! LOVE THIS ONE!!
Your arms are pumped up and Amber's getting more beautiful. Love you guys
So glad I grew up with this great music!
One of my favorite bass lines in any song. Paul McCartney could have written it.
Smooth jazz nice cigar dark lounge jack on the rocks sit back and relax
Two more great iconic songs by them are We May Never Pass This Way
Again and one of the best underapprecisted love songs of the 70s, Get Closer.
Like this one, they did a song called "Hummingbird" that is nice too.

I just realized you have heard them twice at least. I'm not sure you knew that Jim Seals and England Dan Seals were brothers.
I met Dan once when he played a show here in my small town. Nicest guy in the world. Gone way too soon. 😢
70s harmonies are 🔥🔥 Seals Crofts, Eagles, ELO, Earth wind fire, Chicago, Doobies, Little River Band, Abba

Great duo! Soft rock ruled in the seventies!
Such a choice song! The blend of soft rock and jazz creates such an amazing feeling....I really think this is their best song.
Takes me back to my sophomore year in high school.
My late wife was a Dan Seals fan. We went to see him back when his solo career in country was taking off. Songs like "Everything that Glitters isn't Gold." were top of the charts and she had a great time although a little too much to drink :) Miss ya hon, coming home soon.

Oh wow I remember my older sister would blast this song nonstop lol great times.
Great fkn song .. still sound incredible.

humming bird should be next. i have this album on vinyl.
This song occupies a special place in my heart, to my "Diamonds Girl", who broke my heart, but that's the way of love. I heard a little Steely Dan in this tune as well.
Ahh, I can smell the 70's summer nights when I hear this stuff!
Hummingbird is an almost new age-ish song that you'll love! You feel enlightenment.
Dayum! Haven't heard this song in forever! Floods me with times from my childhood.
Speaking of movies,, A MUST SEE CLASSIC,, "The Ghost And Mr. Chicken (1966) Starring legendary comedic icon/actor Don Knotts.
Forget that it's a beautiful love song........
" We may never pass this way again" and "Hummingbird" are goodies too!❤
Their songs remind me more of the seventies than any one else.
"Ruby Jean and Billie Lee" is another beautiful song of theirs.
One of my favorite songs of theirs, for sure!! So heartfelt, spiritual, and tender! ❤
I graduated high school in 1974, their song “We May never pass this way Again” was played during the ceremony. Also “We’ve Only Just Begun” by the Carpenters was played. Much cooler than Pomp and Circumstance!
I've always loved the end of that song. The song has such an easy flow to it. Definitely revisit them, there's a lot of smooth jazzy pieces from them.
Jim Seals' brother was 'England Dan' Seals...I was supposed to go to a dinner party in San Jose, Costa Rica in the mid-1970's where I would have met Jim & Ruby Seals, but I didn't make it...they lived there. Great music!
My favorite S&C song is "Hummingbird".
If you react to it then react to the album version with the prelude.
My brother keeps calling them, "Sid & Marty Kroftt" whenever their songs are on the radio.
"Are they gonna sing about 'H.R. Pufnstuf' or 'Sigmund and the Sea Monsters'?"
I know he's just kidding though, because I hear him singing along.

It's called the Waikiki Shell. Elvis performed there in the early 70's! I had the honor of performing there in 1979! It was bone chilling to stand on the same stage that The King stood on!
I was at the concert. It was a free concert, I believe.
Truly lovely men. They had a pure vibe ❤. Their faith was such a special part of their music
@@donnakubiski5572I visited that Baha'i temple in Wilmette many years ago. Just saw it from the exterior.
