Hey Brother Greybeard! This is Bro. White Hair ( b.1961-?) Thanks so much for ushering our young music loving friends, Nick and Lex, into the wonderful world of "Yacht Rock"! There's so much to discover. Seal and Crofts, ABBA, Ambrosia, Pablo Cruise, Little River Band and so many more great bands of that era! So glad Scotty beamed you down and back up! 😃Looking forward to many more of your great suggestions!

Add Hummingbird to your Seals and Croft list. Either studio or live on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. The vocal into is one of the best and the ending of the song has such lush, beautiful key changes, just flowing together. A lost of talent with these two guys. You just don't see song writing and performing like this anymore.

You got it exactly right! It's a great little song but the intro part and then those chord changes at the end absolutely push it over the top!

Jim Seals and Dash Crofts had voices that were so perfect together that, at times, they were practically "the same voice"... same texture, same resonance. I'm always amazed when someone says they'd never heard of them before. They were the very fiber of my teen years! ☺

Seals & Crofts are an amazing underrated duo/band. Musicians that played on their albums were always first rate.

You need to listen to "WE May Never Pass This Way Again" by Seals and Crofts. It was used a countless number of times as the theme for the Senior proms/ Graduating Classes in High School/Colleges back in 1975. It was a Top 40 hit....very moving. You wont soon forget it

  • @Alewifes_Husband
    @Alewifes_Husband ปีที่แล้ว +2

Greybeard comes through big time with the remix of the original radio version -- this one has the guitars up a bit more in the mix and the strings back a bit more, and it's a little jumpier in tempo and feel! An improvement over the 1974 release. Greybeard must also be aware of the S&C album "Traces" from 2004, where they re-recorded a few of their biggest numbers and added some new ones. On that record, Diamond Girl appears with no flute, just the keys and guitars and the rhythm section. It's just so slightly heavier on the bass, has clearer and more crunchy guitar fills and solos, and it rocks out (to the extent that S&C ever do) a bit more. It's another great alternative mix and it's my go-to mix for this song. ❤

I actually learned flute in Jr High on a flute that was owned previously by someone that played with Seals and Crofts. My dad bought it from the musician (wish I knew his name!) - it had an electric pickup on it, which amazed my band director! When my parents divorced I had to move quite a few times, and unfortunately my flute was stolen in one of the moves. Still makes me ill to think about it. Anyway, I had it for at least three years and enjoyed it! Love Seals and Crofts and I appreciate the song reaction! 😊

Can't hear this album without going back in my little time machine to 1973, at which point, Joe and Myra moved in next door to us. They both had hair down to their backside, a 3-year-old girl and newly born twins. My younger sister and I were soon regulars next door playing with the kids, changing diapers, (yep this boy was changing a diaper at 12) and with Joe's permission I was listening to his cool record collection. This was one of the albums I heard way back when thanks to the coolest next door neighbors you could have.

That is an amazing song and like you said a very nice production. However, it is from Seals and Crofts fifth album. They do beautiful harmonies together. Hi Guys ..... and Greybeard ! That was a brilliant surprise and to beam down like that, even Scotty could not have done it any better. I have only ever heard "Summer Breeze" and I do love that song and I did buy the single when it first came out. I use to buy a lot of singles in my youth, mainly because it's all I could afford, untill I got my first job. I did use to babysit for a wonderful family and got paid, but most of that went on chocolates, comics and going to the cinema. Lol I really enjoyed this track and must checkout more of Seals and Croft. As albums go, they simply got overlooked by me....but then so did Steely Dan. I bought a few singles by them when first released, but it wasn't until I was 40yrs old that I got into their albums...Aja was the starting point, after which I needed more, like an addiction. Great reaction, and great fun. Beam me up Scotty ! Byeee Jim X

Great song and album. One song, "Wisdom", I can play on saxophone. Very fun and easy. I too was thinking Steely Dan, but Loggins and Messina is also a good analogy. "Be Free" (live in '76) is their essential classic, imho. After playing here in Charlotte, in the '70s, S & C hung around and talked about religion. Very nice boys, but they never cut my grass. Two biggest duo bands from the early 70’s era were Seals & Crofts and Loggins & Messina. Sadly even in the 70’s radio stations let politics invade our listening experience after Seals & Crofts released the song “Unborn Child” (which is a beautiful song) in 1974, after Roe v Wade decision. The message of the song is a simple one from the guys, "one should not take life too lightly, and should consider its value before carrying out the procedure of abortion”. It immediately was labeled as an anti-abortion song (which in truth it is not) and radio dropped this song & these guys (pretty much) from the airwaves. RIP Jim… More hits from these guys would be “Hummingbird”, “Summer Breeze”, "We May Never Pass This Way Again”, I’ll Play For You”, “East of Ginger Trees" and “Get Closer”.

You still need to give Michael Franks tunes a listen, songs like 'Tiger in the Rain' - 'Rainy Night In Tokyo', the lush rainforest jazz and lyrics about the land of 'Sanpaku', the “slow sambas” in botanical gardens of 'Jardin Botanico', and lazing warmth of being with you wife 'Underneath The Apple Tree” or the joy of being with your true love with 'Living On The Inside' provide necessary escapism of wit and music by top-level jazz musicians ( such as Larry Carlton on guitar, Joe Sample of the Crusaders on keys, and the phenomenal talents of Michael Brecker and David Sanborn on saxophone much like Steely Dan). "Love Duet' 'Monks New Tune', ''Antonio’s Song (The Rainbow),' the list goes on and on. NicknLex are known for bringing great music to might be unknown to your fans. Please keep going; you guys are loved.

To me the song has a bit of a Van Morrison vibe to it.

Very fun! So great to finally see Eric after multiple months of comments to him. And of course you two were great as usual. (PS Jim Seals and Dash Crofts both played in The Champs who had a big instrumental hit in the late 50's "Tequila" .)

It was so much fun making this video with them. Thought it was time to introduce this amazing duo to N & L! Now everyone has a face to the name😊

They joined The Champs after "Tequila" was already a big hit, but I'm sure they played it live with the group countless times!🙂

I remember this song and Summer Breeze, but can't recall any other songs. Remember them from the car radio, mostly.
Gonna throw out my old standby, just to see if maybe it will get recognized😀

They were Bahá’í too, (as was England Dan Seals of ‘England Dan and John Ford Coley’) , a world religion that encompasses all past religions, all races, all nationalities. “Hummingbird” is a SUPER tune plus it refs Bahá’u’lláh as a hummingbird, even mentions the Abha kingdom…

Shouldn't Eric be naked and talk with an Austrian accent??? 😯
What a cool surprise! What's the occasion Eric?
This was another favorite of my parents, which my Dad had an 8-Track of (for the car and home), so brings back MANY good memories 🙂.
