Excellent post. You've got me thinking about how cool 3D printing and researching it a bit. Thanks for the link to your 3D models. IHowever, I wonder if there exists a "glue" that would bond to the Scalextric track material. Maybe some type of epoxy or maybe contact cement. But your holders are really well designed and perfect for the application in terms of size and magnet to striker plate contact. Very good engineering!

Hi Jeff, thanks! If there is a glue, I don't know what it's called!

Hi, is there any reason why you didn’t find magnets that would fit into the round plastic holes already moulded into the track?
I’m thinking of doing this. An then finding a thin metal sheet to glue down. Then the track could be set anywhere on the board.
Your thoughts would be appreciated. Cheers from NZ

Seems a lot of work. I just used VELCRO brand Extreme Duty hook and loop tape that I bought from the Bunnings (Australian DIY hardware shop). The only problem is once you’ve attached the Velcro to the track, it ain’t coming off. I used a piece approx 10 mm x 12 mm at each end of the main pieces ( a 25 mm x 25 mm piece will, according to the packet, hold 900 grams). My track hangs vertically on the garage wall when not in use and the track has yet to move out if place.

Nice one Garry, that's a good idea.

Does using magnets to secure the track affect the magnets in the cars?

Hi Brad, not that I've found, the magnet sits about 5mm below the track surface so its pretty much lost its strength.

Good job then. There seems to be quite a few challenges getting track secured, yet still movable.
Now that you answered my concern
This appears to be one of the better outside of the box ideas.
      Good thinking and happy racing

Since you have drilled through the track why not just screw the track directly to the board? It would seen the most obvious way forward

@mrthomas5735 It's a bit permanent. This way allows you to lift it up to connect / disconnect it.
