    you almost always have the best videos out here.And fair comparisons.You might would have had a more FAIR one . But with the 7SAUM having a 30 in. barrel and the 6.5PRC having the short 22 or 24 in. barrel.And ( I cant remember what you said)its pretty much stacked against the 6.5PRC..I own both.With the 7SAUM shooting a 150 ELDX and the 6.5 PRC 143 ELDX I think would be a fair challenge.I may try it since I have both in 30 inch Bartlein Barrels.I could be wrong.Either way the 7 saum is the best round or the F-Class guys would not be necking up a 6.5PRC to a 7PRC Wheeler. I did see Erik Cortina did a Video on 7SAUM vs 7 PRC-Wheeler

    That is an absolutely anemic load for the prc.. hornady shows 3150fps as their max load with rl26 and a 142gr bullet.. 3050fps with a 147gr bullet.. the 156gr berger is the bullet of choice for the prc with its high bc and berger even offers factory ammo with that at 2960fps.. this isn't a fair comparison

    It's great information. What if you compared similar weight and bullet. Like a 1:42 grain 6.5 PRC versus a 140 grain 7 mm. Or even a 150 grain 7 mm bullet

  • @freeandcriticalthinker4431

    Gotta say think you went a bit light on that PRC bullet. The BC on that is a pretty damn big jump DOwn versus the 150 gr. They offer. The jump from the best Saum BC to the 2nd isn’t nearly as much of a difference, plus the fact that it’s not linear, makes the whole comparison coming up light given my 2 cents. I know you will always have guys bitching , so thought I should add my bitch to it....). I have 1000 rounds thru mine, and can smoke that 1000 yard drop by a massive difference loading up to max shooting 147-156 gr. Then the BC gets up to the high sixties like that rifle was meant to shoot. That Sierra bullet just doesn’t have the profile as quite a few other slicker bullets out there for just a marginal increase weight. I have been throwing out 147s at over 3000 and 156 Berger’s right on the nose of 3k. The 147 hornady would have been another good comp to use, while
    It’s not maxing out the PRC weight capacity, it’s still a significantly slicker bullet than the plain Jane Sierra 150. Just my take on it, and thanks a lot for the time on the video. Cheers

    I think you are going a little light only using 52.6 grains of RL26 in in the 6.5 Prc and need to do more load development. Hornady list this weight bullet with a max of 57 grains using RL26 and that is a published load. The 147 grain match loads they sell are listed at 2910 fps on the box.

    I was looking into a 6.5PRC when I stumbled on the 7SAUM then 7ShermanShort. Ultimately I went with the 7SS since like you said I would most likely have to hand load. It has been fun and I have spent the past 3 Sunday evenings at the range working up a mild for a class I am taking in Sept. THEN I can start working up a hunting load for next year. Most likely going with Berger 195 and RL26 or H1000.

      I know I have already made a few comments about the low data on the PRC, but damn Sierras data is so low I swore the first time i saw it that it was a misprint: I have a Sierra book saying 50 grains is my max and Hornady says 55 gr. (They did make the cartridge...) oh that’s 4831 powder. Damn that’s a big difference. I am used to seeing different numbers but not a spread like this. I have a 26 inch barrel and usually get a bit more than Hornady book and WAY more than Sierra, like 300-350 Plus FPS more. How can that be? Glad I didn’t just blindly follow their data when I first got the rifle

  • @capt.america6296
    @capt.america6296 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So the 6.5 PRC is only good to 500 yards for elk. Don’t they want 1500 pounds of energy and at least 1800 ft./s on a bullet so that it all expand correctly. The .284 cal just has the best combination of weight, FPS, and bc for hunting and target shooting. It may be more expensive to shoot trailer for targets, if you can play these games cost should be the last of your concerns.

    The 6.5 CM is garbage. 7 SAUM is what you have your 6.5 CM re-barrelled to because it is a true short action. 7 SAUM is the best hunting Cartridge for North America as long as brown bear and bison are excluded. For those I think the 300 WSM provides a good short action option as long as the feed ramps are good.
    6.5 PRC is too long for some short actions and is that no mans land of medium actions. This and the fact that 30 cal and 7 mm produce a better wound channel make 6.5 PRC a tier below.

  • @Mike-xi4zt

    What exactly is the very good reason for a 30° shoulder angle? The purpose of sharp shoulder angle was originally to get more powder in an existing case. The original purpose had nothing to do with accuracy. They say that it slows down case stretching which I have yet to see verified. A Sharp shoulder prevents the brass from springing back after being fired especially a 40° shoulder. Which contributes to the cases sticking in the chamber. Sharp shoulder angles on the shoulder also are not conducive to smooth feeding out of a magazine. There have in reality been plenty of cartridges exhibit just as much accuracy with a shoulder angle less than 30 degrees. So what is the reason for a 30-degree shoulder other than it is a religious belief that people believe it Works to solve all the mysteries of the universe?

    • @mrjeffjob
      @mrjeffjob 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gun nuts have many religious beliefs that bend the laws of physics. When I was 12 I was told that round nose slow bullets “plow” through brush. I asked what would plow through obstacles better, a slow moving train or the same train moving fast? The instructor just stared at me with a confused look on his face. It’s the first time I saw cognitive dissonance.

    • @Mike-xi4zt
      @Mike-xi4zt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mrjeffjob the best way to hit something is to not hit any brush that's for sure. If the brush you shoot through is relatively close to the deer there is a chance that the bullet can still hit the deer. Whereas if the bullet hits brush closer to the shooter it has more time to get off course. And then you need a bullet that doesn't get destroyed by hitting a tree branch. This 30° shoulder business has become some sort of accuracy scripture. Reality is that is just wishful thinking that really has nothing to do with accuracy or case stretch. Sharper shoulder angles came into existence to try to get more powder in a case to make the bullet go faster in a shorter package.
