- 7 PRC vs 7 WSM today I but put these two head to head to see if the 7 WSM Remington 700 can keep up with the Pure Precision 7 PRC. Running a 26 in barrel on the 7 WSM and a 22 on the PRC. Will the old dog be able to keep up! If you would like and subscribe and help me on this adventure I would greatly appreciate it. Also if you'd like to help beyond that I just started a patreon! Thank you all!

Been hunting with the 7mm wsm for 20 years already. It is my go to
It was my go to for this year!
Glad to see some 7 wsm videos keep it coming
That WSM is shootin good!
When are we doing a collab?
@@JustAnotherGuyAdventures we should block off a weekday and make it happen!
7WSM has been a great round especially if you reload. Awesome 1 and done for whitetail
I’m just dipping my toes into the 7wsm
@@JustAnotherGuyAdventures you want be anything but happy with it!
If you want to see something wild load a 168 Berger VLD it’s amazing
wsm all the way love my 300 and 270
@@MNBuckhunter both great choices!!!
The WSMs are awesome cartridges. Gotta love the efficiency. 4831SC is my go to powder, especially when I’m having trouble finding a load for any of the PRCs. It always just shoots great.
Lowest ES I’ve ever seen was with H4831sc it a hell of a powder!
My first time on this channel and I want to say hello ! You have some nice rifles & new equipment. After more than 50yrs of reloading experience, a few suggestions for better videos . Please list your handload info along with the velocity results . Always take your torque driver & keep it in range bag along with your range rod . Glad to see your rifles have longer barrels instead of the carbine length , cartridge killers you see on most newbie channels these days . Suppressors are nice on the range but make for unwieldy hunting rigs . Shooting , hunting and reloading are great life long pursuits!! Enjoy young man . Cheers
Thank you for the great advice!!!
I’d like to see how the WSM does with a shorter barrel. Not because I’m rooting for it to be better than the PRC all things being equal but because I’m not a fan of longer barrels. 22” is about the longest barreled rifle I’m interested in owning and make my cartridge selection accordingly.
@@Westerner_ sbr's are as a tactical weapon used with a suppressor make a lot of sense. To us old fuds any barrel shorter than 20inch is a carbine now referred to as a sbr . For hunting purposes I keep my barrels 22-26 inches depending on cartridge. If you don't mind turning your 308win into a 30-30 go ahead & shorten the barrel to any length you want , you're the one paying for it. Magnum cartridges need longer barrels to get the performance or what's the point ! Muzzle blast with a short barreled Magnum with a Muzzle break is just crazy disturbing on the range or for hunting. Interesting times & lots of options .
@@GuyGooding-q9o I completely disagree. Ruger makes several factory rifles with 20” barrels that are designed for hunting, most people building custom rifles now days are going with a 22” or shorter barrel. You lose a little velocity in trade for a much more packable easier handling package. 300 WSM 6.5 PRC and 7 SAUM all do well with an 18-20” barrel. There’s not a critter alive I can think of that would know the difference wether it was shot with a 24” or 20” .308, I’d rather not lug that longer stick around in the woods.
@@Westerner_ u r the one buying it , get what you want . I'll stick with what I have & we'll both be happy . Cheers
@@Westerner_ Then just hunt with a 30-30 or 300 Savage because that is what has been done to a 308 cutting the barrel down.
My AR 10 308 with the 18-inch barrel shows the speed of a 300 Savage when I am shooting over a chronograph.
Then using barrels below 26 inch for all WSM cartridges or 6.5 PRC is stupid when just go buy a 308 or rifle in 300 Savage or 6.5 Creedmoor
7 saum was is an awesome alternative!
Absolutely
7 wsm all the way
Love the wsm cartridges. I have a kimber montana in 300 wsm, such a great rifle for packing. I just bought a seekins element in 7 prc really lookin forward to gettin some time behind it
Heck yea sounds like it should be a sweet setup!
The best of the PRCs is the 6.5. To get the 7 & 300 they just legnthened the case thus placing more powder further from the primer. The 6.5 and 7 wizum have a 0.550 instead of 0.530 head diameter. Thus better burn thus better S.D.
Fair point!
Awesome video boss man‼️👍👍👍👍🎯💯👌
Thank you!
Great video. Both of these are great choices but I wouldn’t pick either over my 7mmSTW.
Great choice also
First time here and a new subscriber 👍love the wsm family of cartridges, had a 300wsm and rechamber it to a 6.5 prc. And now wanting to get a carbon barrel 300wsm for my tikka action
Thank you for the sub!
How can you rechamber 30 caliber to 6.5 ???
I can see rebarrel to 6,5
lol yes re chamber of course 👍get another barrel
7 PRC = marketing over substance.
love my WSM ... be curious to see it shoot H1000 or Retumbo.
My experience is the retumbo will have higher velocity but I’ve had better groups with the H1000 in the wsm
Factory rifles & ammo vs. Custom rifle & handloads
Semi custom rifle and handloads for both
4 inches more barrel makes a pretty big difference.
So is 10grs of powder!
With 180s
Wsm-4831sc 60 max
Retumbo-66.2 max
Prc-4831sc 62-63.4 max
Retumbo-67-69 max
I dont see how any way shape or form it is 10 grns it's 3 not to mention that is with wsm loaded to 2.80 as soon as you go to 2.95 you have more capacity. The wsm case actually holds more water. It's just at the 2.800 it can't hold as much powder since a 180 is so deep. Or a 195 in your testing
Not to mention the prc with a 26" barrel would hit 2900 fps with only 3 grns more, for all intensive purposes I think the cartridges are very evenly matched when the wsm has a longer throat factory to factory no comparison.
Get some N560 or N565 and you will see better numbers out of the 7mm prc. RL26 would also be good but I wouldn’t base a load around it because availability
What about n570?
I dont think you can get enough in the case to make it work. I have 195 EOL’s at 2880 fps in a 22” barrel. 68.2 gr N565. That is a very hot load so i would not recommend jumping to that powder charge
@justanotherguyadventures like stated from flag I think you are going to start having issues with case capacity with N570. I’ve heard of people using it with the heavier bullets, but I have no personal experience.
@@worland89 thanks for the info I’ll have to give some of those powders a try
“Pulled the trigger!”
The 7 prick... 😂😂😂
I agree hahaha the 7 prick what a name hahahaha!!!
300 WSM 20" Barrel 190 LRX 2950 StaBall 6.5
Sounds like an awesome combo!
My AR 10 in 300 WSM using a Pac Nor SS supper match barrel in 26 inch 1-10 twist rate Polygonal shoots 180 grain bullets at 3200 FPS using magpro powder of 73 grains.
You guys chopping off barrels in large magnums should just go buy a deer gun 30-06 that nearly matches those speeds
@@Lure-Benson Correction it’s a OMR 18.5” barrel with 1-8 twist shooting 208 LRX at 2875 with RL 16 and 212 LRX Bore riders at 2850 with RL 26. Show me a 30-06 with a 18.5” Barrel with them numbers and I’ll buy it. Im not a metal thumper, I actually hunt at 12,000’ elevation a good bit pulling 3000 or more vertical feet. Not really wanting to do that with a telephone pole on my back. I’m not shooting 180 gr bullet, if I was velocity be closer to 3050 to 3100 depending on bullet selection. I would ask you to try the 208 or 212 but your long smoke poll won’t stabilize them.
7wsm is a great cartridge, however the 195s are a poor choice for hunting and the 180s are often ballistically superior with the gain in velocity. There's a lot of stories of those not functioning on game. I would glady take a PRC over a wsm just from the component availability standpoint. Try some 175 or 180s in them and see how they do
Absolutely!
@@lawsonhuntsSWVA for hunting with a 7 mag you don't need more than 175gr . I've shot right through moose with 162gr interlocks & @ hunting ranges out to 450yds they shoot flatter too .
@@GuyGooding-q9o for sure the 160s kill fine, but just the wind bucking ability of the higher BC choices is worth it for me
Always put a David tubb ring on it that helps!
wonder why Pure Precision fluted the bolt up/left for a right bolt instead of down/right?
I’m not sure!
Ugh i hate when ppl say wizzum, instead of just the letters W S M lol. Just like P R C
Genius! I'm gonna start saying perk instead of prc! Lol
PRC,,,that's prick,,why because anyone who bought into the bs hype got it in tha azz with a PRC "prick",,,,the PRC can't do anything the 7mm rem or the wsm can or has done ,,only thing it has is a fast twist and a long mag box too leave the projectile out of the neck
Hahaha I might to say pierce hahaha. I’m just teasing
Is the Garmin setup to far from the barrel? Shouldn’t it 5-15in from the front and off to the side?
I haven’t had any issue. I’ll keep an eye on it. I was filming on a wide lens GoPro so I think it looks further than it really was.
I'll keep my 7 WSM and 300 WSM PRC overrated .. IMO But only thing that really matters is SHOT PLACEMENT !
Is that using a 7 WSM case, or is it a 300 WSM case necked down? For those who don't know, the 7 WSM case's shoulder is farther forward, giving it more capacity than the 270 or 300 WSM. The 7 WSM cases were harder to find for quite a while, so many people chambered for the easier to find 300 WSM case and necked it down to 7mm.
It’s a true 7 WSM case!
How fast does that cf barrel heat up
What color is the 7wsm stock brown or tan from Bell n Carlson
I want to say brown but let me look into it more. I bought that rifle the way it is. I did not build it.
@@JustAnotherGuyAdventures thxs I like it and I can't tell which from there website it looks in-between but probably is brown
what are the build specs on that WSM?
It’s a Remington 700 long action blue printed in a bell and Carlson stock. It also has another wood stock it came with. I can’t remember if it’s a Lilija barrel or not I’ll look. It’s probably only a 1-9 twist. Timmney trigger. And just has a arken on it for right now!
@@JustAnotherGuyAdventuresthat’s great if your 9 twist tube stabilizes those heavy pills. I’m a 7mm man and wish I had the 7WSM but 7SAUM components were available. Have .280AI, 7mag, 7-08, and 7SAUM. Thinking about WSM.
You needed 4 inches more barrel just to keep pace with the 7prc though, so not sure how it's a victory lol
It’s a win when components are hard to find. Lucky things are pretty good again! Just a fun comparison!
7 WSM also had 10 grains less powder! That's pretty impressive that the old dog can keep the pace with the latest and greatest even with less powder! I have a 7 WSM and 300 WSM and absolutely love those calibers! Just wish brass was more readily available for 7 WSM.
The 7wsm has a 4 inch longer barrel not a fair comparison
Cry some more 🤣🤣🤣 it beats it with the same length barrel as well
@user-eg8hb8xt3j no it doesn't they about the same I had a 270wsm so I know my 7mm prc shoots a 170 the same velocity as my 270wsm did in a 150 just stop and good luck finding anything wsm why I sold my 270 wsm and I loved that gun
The PRC has 10grs+ more powder how isn’t it fair?
@@Paul-q3m7kyeah that’s all good if they are running the same pressure.
@@JustAnotherGuyAdventures Its not fair because the barrel lengths aernt the same you clown
Why not use the sMe powder in the 2 cartridges? Retumbo works very well in 7 wsm and would crush prc. I shoot both. Or shoot 7828 ssc in each and showcase the cartridge not the powder selection? I understand that you are trying to show what the prc can do. Just my humble opinion. I shoot a 7 sherman max with a 26" 183 smk going 2980.
I did use the same powder the 7 WSM couldn’t keep up with retumbo. I was really just testing to see if the 7 WSM could get 7 PRC speeds with heavy 195 bergers with a longer barrel. Which it did! I wouldn’t it be better to use the right powered for the cartridge to really test them?
@@JustAnotherGuyAdventures as i stated 7828 is i think the best middle ground for both. I have done a lot of testing on 7wsm, i have been playing with 7 prc. I stated i understand what you are trying to show. And you did a good job. I merely gave you another path for future videos and content. I was not knocking what you did. It was a good video
Gotcha sorry didn’t mean to sounds whiny! I appreciate the suggestion. Didn’t they discontinue 7828sc though? Or am I thinking of a different powder.
@@JustAnotherGuyAdventures 7828 was discontinued in 2016. They only offer 7828 ssc now. Vihtavuori n565 would also be a great powder. Looking forward to seeing how they do.
@@matthewreid1338 is there a bullet you"d like to see?
7PRC out did the 7wsm. A 4in longer barrel and you average 25 to 50fps per inch. So I don’t see how it’s keeping up its paces.
10 grains less powder? More like 13 grains less?
I match these speeds with my 284win with 32" barrel 😂
I want a 284 so bad wish lapua would start making brass again!
@@JustAnotherGuyAdventures we still get brass in South Africa. 6.5x284 norma brass is a viable alternative. Just run an expander mandrel and don't even bother turning the necks, they come out perfectly.
@@JustAnotherGuyAdventures can I make you more jealous? I have access to custom lathe turned bullets by Peregrine Bullets. I shoot a 168gr .284 bullet with a .38 G7 bc @ 3011ft/sec (max pressure load runs @3090 ft/sec). It hits mile gongs allllll day 😂
@@francoisdavel1786 will you marry me hahaha. Just teasing sounds like you got the hookups! I’m super jelly!
@@francoisdavel1786 I haven’t even really seen any 6.5-284 lapua brass lately state side
Specs on the rifles?7 wsm saami chamber?
Looking at the loaded cartridge, it looks like a custom chamber with a much longer throat. It looks like a long action would be needed for it (the rifle itself is a Rem 700 long action). That is the issue with Short Magnums, they need longer actions to keep the bullet out of the powder compartment and perform their best. They were designed before laser rangefinders became widely available, so they were designed to shoot relatively light bullets very flat out to 400 yards or so errors in range estimation would not be a big deal. Within a few years, after good rangefinders became affordable, longer, heavier, higher-BC bullets became more popular.
@@eldomouton4615 it’s a long action. Not positive on the chamber I believe Saami, but I didn’t build this rifle I bought it
Good vid.
Would be nice to see a video on Mean Radius instead of group ES. There are a number of considerable advantages to focusing only on mean radius & leaving group ES off the table altogether. Group ES is almost irrelevant when assessing hunting rifle accuracy.
ES has been used for decades, before the virtues of mean radius were recognised & unfortunately, we continue to live with group ES legacy.
The negatives of ES are that there are only ever 2 data points regardless of the number of shots in the group. The 2nd & most important negative of group ES is that the two shots dictate the accuracy between the two worst shots & not the proximity of all the shots to the POA or, the centre of the Points of impact.
Mean Radius on the other hand, takes account of every shot in the group, tells you where the impacts are with respect to your POA &, allows the hit probability to be calculated with regard to the target range. Mean Radius also shows the rifles true repeatability over a reasonable number of shots by averaging the POI dispersion with regard to the POA. This is especially relevant to hunters where it is only the POI correlation to the POA which is important.
Mean radius will put an entirely different focus on how you assess your rifle accuracy/repeatability.
I agree completely this really wasn’t a ES video. This was just a video to see if I could get the 7 WSM to 7 PRC speeds. I appreciate the comment. I use mean radius myself a little getting more and more into it!
@@JustAnotherGuyAdventures I forgot to mention the results you got were very interesting. I thought for sure the PRC would get higher velocities than the WSM.
My initial comment on Mean radius wasn't a criticism. Not that you seem to have taken it as such, just making my position clear.
I have been commenting on other channels as well about the benefits of mean radius over ES. I truly think it's about time there was a move away from group ES. I honestly believe group ES is detrimental to how shooters perceive their rifle accuracy & I'm trying to encourage channels to make the change. Mean radius is so much more interesting & can provide so much more reliable information.
I look fwd to your next vid.
@@rotasaustralis yea I was hoping to get a bit more out of the 7 PRC but seems like I’m hitting pressure fast might have to try some more powders!
@@JustAnotherGuyAdventures Do you have GRT or Quick load?
If you don't use either, list the Retumbo charge weight & COAL & I can input that load & see what it looks like. List the same info for the WSM.
I've been using GRT for about 3 years & it's been damn near spot on with every load. As long as the true inputs are used, it is just so close to the mark. I don't work up any load without it.
@@JustAnotherGuyAdventures Just did a load for the WSM. At max COAL of 72.64mm, I'm getting 2745 ft/s with the 195 elite hunter & 60grn of 2213sc & .050" out of the lands & powder burnout inside 22". Seems like a good load, maybe slightly hot but should be ok.
That load is well above the 15% from absolute max pressure.
GRT does not list the 7 PRC as yet although, both 6.5 & 300 PRC are listed.
Lmao yeah give one a super long barrel and one a short barrel. Hmmm I wonder which will be faster lol. Why do people compare shit that isn't apples n apples. Makes the comparison completely useless.
7PRC is highly overated. The numbers say it all.
I agree
Video ain’t solve anything for a comparison
Not try to solve anything just comparing cartridges!
Sorry. You lost me the first time you said wizzem 🤷♂️
All PRC rounds suck
It's not all it's cracked up to be
I will stay with my 7 mag
That’s a great choice!
Get better accuracy with lower scope rings and a good cheek weld on that short mag
Yea ran out of scopes it got leftovers hahah
