    3:06 "...There's gotta be some low bass coming in here. There it was." Excuse me while I grab some popcorn, because you ain't heard nothing yet.
    Also, your reaction to that E1 at the end was priceless, and pretty much what I felt when I first heard that.
    You are correct that this was a great showcase of talent, but not of range for anyone who isn't Geoff. I'd suggest Queen in 5 Minutes (which gives everyone a chance to shine, including the beatboxer, Layne), or Carry On Wayward Son (which is just a top-notch arrangement).

    Watch VoicePlay's Little Mermaid Medley with Rachel Potter. Gives each member a chance.
    PS - the last note was E1.

  • @CynicalTesuji

    VoicePlay is an entire collection of vocal monsters, and you're right- this video is impressive, but not the best display of their capabilities. I'd recommend their cover of Carry On Wayward Son if you want to hear them doing a straightforward song, or Go The Distance if you're feeling Disney. If you're feeling both Disney and medley, The Little Mermaid Medley is amazing, and if you like your medleys without Disney, check out Queen In 5 Minutes or Boy Bands In 5 Minutes. (Honestly, there are very few bad choices, but these will give some of the best demonstrations of their ranges and abilities).
    Also worth noting that the group is in flux at the moment. Their tenor 1, Earl (the guy with the beard, in this video) left about a year ago, and they were in the process of replacing him. Then a couple weeks back their baritone, j. None (the black guy on the far right) announced that he was leaving the group for now to join the Navy band. So they're currently down by two at the moment, although hopefully not for long (they've been actively auditioning for the roles for a while now).

    • @CynicalTesuji
      @CynicalTesuji 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sorry, J. None was on the left. I still don't know my left from my right very well.

      @@CynicalTesuji So the core of the group right now is Eli (dressed in red in this video), Geoff (the bass lead) and Layne (beat-boxer/baritone). As a wide-range baritone myself, I have not sung many mixed voice songs that have the bass singing the lead; we are usually singing a harmonic support from below.

    I'm a bass and still cannot do some of his techniques. Geoff, Tim Foust of Home Free, and Avi Kaplan (formally of Pentatonix), they all have insane ranges into high tenor, while being able to hit notes over an octave lower than an average bass singer. Out of all of them, Tim Foust hits the lowest notes; he's actually blown speakers during live shows.

    • @joeswanson7634
      @joeswanson7634 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      I'm pretty sure Geoff it's 1 note higher and Tim hits 1 note lower so there almost the exact same range . Geoff specialising in subharmonic my personal favourite notes to hit and Tim specialising in growl .

    • @gingerjohnson1095
      @gingerjohnson1095 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      They all have. Tim sometimes does it on purpose. Avi had to start taking extra speakers on PTX tours to replace the ones he blew and Geoff has to make sure he doesn't get too close to one when he is in the basement or it will blow.

    • @nightthornkvala94132
      @nightthornkvala94132 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    You're in the rabbit hole now. Have fun.
    Earl Elkins (Tenor 1) left the group last year, so their most recent vids have various guest artists in the open spot. JNone (Baritone) is "leaving" too, joining the Navy. He'll only be able to record with them while on leave.
    If you want to see more of Voiceplay doing showtunes in costumes and makeup and character voices, there are three other songs from Nightmare Before Christmas. Plus: Little Mermaid Medley, and You're a Mean One Mr Grinch. Those would be my top recommendations.
    Just straight songs that show their "ordinary" singing voices: Can't Help Falling In Love, Tennessee Whiskey, Carry On Wayward Son, Go the Distance.
    Of course, thanks to COVID19, Geoff also has about 8 songs on his solo YT channel.

    To get a much better idea of just what powerhouses they are vocally - individually as well as part of an ensemble - I can recommend 'Hoist The Colours,' 'The Dragonborn Comes,' 'Queen In Five Minutes' and 'Carry On My Wayward Son.' You won't be disappointed, I promise.
    They've had a few line-up changes over the years: Earl (bearded tenor with the squeaky voice in this video,) left a few years ago, J.None (black guy in this video) was replaced by Cesar de la Rosa (guy with the gammy eye in their 'Hoist The Colours' video,) and they often have guest singers now to make up the fifth spot in the group (Omar Cardona is a popular one, along with Ashley Diane and Jose Rosario Jr.) The other three are Geoff (the bass guy you already know,) Eli (pronounced 'Ellie') is the bald tenor with an awesome rock-rasp to his voice when he lets loose (he shows that off in 'Hoist The Colours' and 'Carry On My Wayward Son') and Layne the beatboxer, who also has a great singing voice too.

I felt so sorry for you with those traumatic memories... 😢😉 But if you want to dwell on those memories some more, VoicePlay's other Nightmare Before Christmas videos are great as well: "This is Halloween" (also a bit creepy 👀), "Kidnap the Sandy Claws" (totally crazy 🤣) and "What's This" (rather cute in my opinion 😍). I agree with the VoicePlay suggestions already given, especially "My Mother Told Me" (from the TV show Vikings and the game Assassin's Creed), "Warriors", "Little Mermaid" and also suggest their most recent cover of Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror". However, I think everything from them is great, as is everything from the bass's solo channel, Geoff Castellucci. (Sorry, I never can keep my recommendations short. There are so many brilliant songs done by them!! I always get carried away...)

    Since you've reacted to Home Free and Voiceplay, your next stop on the a cappella train should be Pentatonix. While I LOVE a cappella music and groups, they're easily my all-time favorite.
    Since you prefer to watch an artist's/band's most recent video first before going back to listen to their other stuff, you'll want to start with their 90s Dance Medley. Pentatonix are masters when it comes to medleys, including their evolution of "insert artist" videos (which are one-take and live), and mixing two songs together into a seamless banger or ballad.
    I would then follow that up with their Daft Punk video, which is a medley of Daft Punk hits that won Pentatonix their first of three Grammy's for song arrangement. It was also one if their earliest viral videos.
    After that, you should probably check out their version of Hallelujah since it's their highest viewed video, currently sitting at 619 million views.
    They also do covers of Bohemian Rhapsody, Sound of Silence, Can't Hold Us, Say Something, and many many other incredible covers. They also have 2 original albums. You really can't go wrong with them.

    Loved your reaction. Geoff has a video out there explaining how to go for the low notes if you're interested. If you're interested in a really great song by Geoff that shows his range, go for 16 Tons. A wonderful recent song that allows them their real voices while still letting them go into costume is "My Mother Told Me." Thanks

    I just saw some of your charity live stream. Such a great initiative, thanks for doing that! I heard your version of My shot from Hamilton there, and I really liked how emotional that was. Wanted to tell you that VoicePlay has done a version of it too, a rather old cover from them (2016). It's one that I love but I've never seen suggested to any reactors, so I guess that it's not one of their most liked, though. However, I really love it!

    Please do a reaction video of Voice Plays version of The Dragonborn Comes/Skyrim. They give a full package performance. Also Voice Plays version of The Halo theme song from the Halo game. Nobody does it better. Voice Plays latest is Dream On by Aerosmith & another awesome one is Carry On Wayward Son. You won't be sorry.

    If you love a capella, check out Voctave. Voctave is quite different from both Home Free and Voice Play, but no less wonderful. Voctave is superb.

    If you like a cappella and like to check out an other level have a look at VAN CANTO.
    They have many covers and a bunch of songs of their own. Be aware its metal a cappella =D

    Oh, and I see you have done some Tom MacDonald. If you want to checkout another independent artist, try Upchurch. He just did a collaboration with Young Buck called "Cashville Stomp". Upchurch has dropped 18 albums over the past 6 years and been on the Billboard charts over 100 times for all 3 genres; several albums charted in multiple genres. He and Tom MacDonald did a song together, as well; it's called "Travelers". Upchurch does the first verse and the hook, followed by Struggle Jennings (the grandson of Waylon Jennings), and then Tom does the last verse.

    I swear that nigh on any lass listening to Geoff from Voice Play, Tim from Home Free, or Avi formerly of Pentatonix, when they hit the really low notes, will almost immediately get wetter than an otter‘s pocket. I mean, seriously, those deep notes are crazy.
