    Welcome to another 8BitStereo Revamp of a classic title, as I'm sure most of you are familiar with this wonderful series, here comes the original Metroid! The title that started it all, an innovative and spectacularly moody game that truly feels like you're thrown into the depths of an unknown environment with just yourself to complete your mission as Samus Aran. While criticized in retrospective for its harsh difficulty along with no in-game map or save feature (for the NES release), this is still a fun adventure if you know where you're going and get into the vibe of exploring. But without a doubt one of the most recognized parts of this game is its amazing soundtrack by the legendary Hirokazu Tanaka! He does a fantastic job matching the music to the mood and look of the game, while Tanaka's intentions with the soundtrack was to be the "opposite of the hummable pop tunes found in other games at that time", according to an interview, he still managed to make an OST that contains one of the most catchy and recognized themes of all time, between "Title BGM", "Brinstar", "Mini-Boss Room 1", and even the jingles of "Samus Appears" and "Get Item", these are certainly tunes that any gamer can recognize, they are that iconic. All under Tanaka's Sound Driver he programmed himself, and is apparently the second version of his Driver.
    Like a number of titles from Nintendo in this era, this game was developed (and co-developed by Intelligent Systems) and released first on the Famicom Disk System, with it taking advantage of singular FDS expansion channel on a few songs (which will also get its own future upload), and notably had a save feature on that version which makes it a much more smooth experience to most. Even without that for the International release, Metroid is an important part of Nintendo's history, and Hirokazu Tanaka is to thank for the notable themes that have continued and been reinterpreted throughout the series' future titles! :)
    It's nice to get another upload out that didn't take weeks or months, I am looking into doing a few more notable large soundtracks then likely focus on smaller tracklist OST's to get these uploads out a bit more consistent for you all. As always thank you to my Patron supporters, if you'd like to support and have your name featured at the end just follow the link here, thanks everyone and see you on the next upload! www.patreon.com/nikotengoku

    It's hard to find a game on the platform with better atmosphere. Great mix Niko!

      It's one of the very few that have true atmosphere for an NES game, and the music absolutely cements that! 👍

    I remember playing this through the NES Classic Series on the Gameboy Advance, although I never made it too far in the game.

      Zero mission added zero suit Samus for a remake. Fusion did hold your hand, so I liked that. Metroid 2 for gb was confusing lol but there was Samus returns on 3ds. I do Prefer the ghost song hot gun that kills over a non lethal pistol whip.

    This series has some amazing music.
    There have been a lot of really good metal covers of the series. Bit Brigade to name one.

      It's pretty great, I am most surprised Hirokazu Tanaka never returned or was brought back to compose for another game in the series, in fact, Tanaka rarely returned to a sequel for a game he worked on, not sure if personal choice or Nintendo just wanted to give someone else the job, either way, Tanaka laid the ground work for some many classic themes for many Nintendo series!

    Obviously very much influenced by the movie Alien: the exploration of a strange alien planet with monstrous creatures, the sense of confusion, horror and loneliness, etc.

    • @Nikos8BitStereo
      @Nikos8BitStereo  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Nintendo's own interpretation of that is pretty neat, love when they make something unique like this without it being exactly like it, lots of things are certainly "Alien-esque" without being exactly like the design from the movie "Alien".

    The game was way, way too hard for me. Still is. But I would sit and listen to the title music until someone came to shut it off. Thanks, Niko. Keep up the good work.

    I could've sworn that Intelligent Systems only worked on Super Metroid, but I didn't think they were also involved in the first Metroid game.

      I think they specifically helped with the Famicom Disk System version, but how? Not really sure, unless they also did help with the design and aspects like that, so they still get credit for this version! :)

      Thankfully in the official releases Kraid is always before Ridley, and makes sense as you hear the "Mini Boss Room I" before "Room II", love consistency like that!

    I think it’s a pity that the second part of ”Escape” was cut off from Metroid Zero Mission. That version feels uncompleted without it.

    • @Nikos8BitStereo
      @Nikos8BitStereo  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Totally understandable, Tanaka specifically wanted the tunes to not be hummable compared to other games at the time, even though he ironically made tunes anyone can hum from this game, but he definitely made it more atmospheric, definitely a better OST to listen to while playing!
