Revamp time makes its way to another Sunsoft classic, the game that really showcased how amazing Sunsoft was at making games, with Blaster Master! Known for its tough difficulty, this game provides a classic NES Hard challenge, along with superb graphics, animations, and gameplay for 1988 that has still stood the test of time. But of course, the soundtrack takes the cake for the most memorable and beloved part of this game, so many great tracks and an excellent sound with catchy vibes and atmospheric tracks that capture this game. Naoki Kodaka providing some of the best tunes he has ever composed for the NES, and a switch up for the sound programming and driver, as Naohisa Morota was in charge of the music programming and Shinichi Seya worked and provided the Sound Driver on this game, one of the only times that was done for Sunsoft games on the NES. But the Sunsoft sound team nails it so good with a soundtrack that will always be loved and praised!
Sad fact: I got this game when it was released and I was just five years old and it scared the crud out of me. Seriously! The cutscene with the frog mutating into a large monster horrified me. I begged my folks to return the game. I didn't want it at all. I look at it now and think 'How in the heck did my brain let this happen?'.
hey, it's alright. You were a kid, those things happen. If you really want to play Blaster Master through legal means again, just pay for an Nintendo Account on the Switch and you'll be able to play it and a bunch of other NES games for free. Either way, don't beat yourself up over it!
I did something similar; we were in Vegas (which is where I live now lol) and I remember my parents showing me a cool Sega VR thing (it was early 90s), and they told me it's just like a video game and if I wanted to try it. I remember being scared and saying no. Looking back I wish I gave it a shot; I'm sure I would've loved it.
I did a similar type thing as a kid. I bought a scary tales story book at the book fair. The front cover had a rat with red eyes on it. Scared the shit outta me. It's mere presence in my room was bothering me, as if it would come to life; so I threw the book away. What a waste of money. lol.
Amazing soundtrack...but man what a tough game. Even with the pause trick for some bosses it took me a while to beat it back in the day. It's definitely on my top ten list of the most challenging NES titles. And it was quite snarky of them to put one of the late game bosses on the box which I originally assumed wasn't even in the game.
One of my favourite NES games, loved the Boss music, sometimes while beating a boss with the pause bomb I would let it play for an unnecessarily long time before unpausing and carrying on.
@@mattsneed4569 I was 10 or 11 when I finally beat the last boss. I had the game since I was 7. Nintendo hard at its finest. (Of course, I wasn't playing it exclusively all that time, just saying it takes dedication to beat them)
As a kid, I could never figure out where to go after beating the third boss. A few years ago I finally located level 4, and that's as far as I've gotten too, haha. So far...
@@bunnybismuth I had to double check the bosses. Bosses 2, 4, 6, and 7 are susceptible to the glitch. Bosses 2, 5, and 6 are all "crab like" which really says something about the game's originality. So, I see what you mean. That underwater boss. Yeah, that one....that one's special....so many bubbles....
I remember as a kid, I couldn't find my way to the last stage. I (thought) i looked EVERYWHERE. Well, years later, I find out it was in stage 3 the whole time in a spot i hadn't looked. Figures, cause stage 3 was pretty big.
@@the-NightStar Sorry, but where? Outside of the first area in Zero 1 and one of the last bosses of Zero 3, only 3 tracks from the OG Blaster Master were used across the trilogy. As far as I can tell.
Master Blaster would make a great series, especially the Playstation version and now the new ones on the switch, all of them could be continuous stories with some alternative universes
They are. This is how they are chronologically connected. Remember that the Zero series are the alternate universe you're expecting. Blaster Master Overdrive (Wii) Blaster Master (NES), Blaster Master 2 (Sega Genesis), Blaster Master Enemy Below (GBC), Blaster Master Blasting Again (PS1) Blaster Master Zero 1, 2 and 3
I love this soundtrack so much. One of the Sunsoft's best. Castle theme is so catchy and cool. Never get bored of it. I got this game about 20 years ago and until now I have never get past the Ice Caves. Who in the world didn't put a battery or a password system in this game??? :'( Only a question. Is it just me or the speed in this revamp is a little bit slower than the in-game speed?
I seen my Dad take the wheel then my brothers... then one day I tried it... still driving today :) I'll never let my family's light die out man. Lol Here in 2021 played the newest of this game... It's fun.
Not to complain, but I'm curious if you are keeping your older, higher reverb compilations on this channel. For some of these game soundtracks the reverb is an improvement.
Well good news for ya, it is here! But it's known as Area 7 as the Final Boss reuses that theme for it. As far as not being played again I can get your critique on that, but that's a bit redundant to add it again, and I could label the track as "Area 7: Lava Caves / Final Boss", but for the most part, most only care that its the Area 7 theme and enjoy the naming consistency with each Area name :)

Definitely one of the best NES soundtracks ever. The level 7 tune is so intense it sounds like it should be a late level MegaMan track lol.
One of the best sound tracks ever for a nes game!
I've been waiting for this soundtrack to get revamped!!!!
This is making me think about how the AVGN said that Sunsoft games always had great music. Even Fester's Quest.
and Batman on Sega Genesis.. wish the music team would have released more games
Still my favorite NES game, still top five all time favorites now at 39 years old. The game used to test every emulator since Nesticle. Timeless.

just pause and let that grenade do it's work ;)

Blaster Master Zero is basically a remaster of it.

i admit i never played this game before but this soundtrack is rocking

Sometimes I wonder if Naoki Kodaka ever listens to this. I would take great joy and pride to listen to his work.
