Real, real quick jam. I was improvising and… well, just watch the video for the story. It was recorded in just a couple of hours.
OK, tech details: I used a cajon (box drum), tambourine and Latin cabasa. There is a “synth cymbal” from the Prophet Rev 2 and a bass drum sound from the Poly D to round out the percussion. The synth solo is poly D and all other sounds are from the Rev 2. The first sound is actually 4 different synth sounds played manually. Various combinations of these four are played throughout.
I hope you enjoy this… as much as Fiyero and Idina did!

The minor key sounds so "major!" On the edge of playful, fun! Throw in some jazz/funk too! Oh,,, and nearly a picardy third!

Good ear! I used a Mixolydian/blues hybrid scale for this - The Mixolydian mode is mostly major, but with a flatted seventh, the Blues Pentatonic scale is minor. Often in jazz and funk, and sometimes in rock, people combine the two scales, so it can be both minor and major at the same time. I didn’t have a real chord progression, but just played on the scale over the bass pattern, thinking of the modal jazz popular in the 1950s (Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue album is the best example of modal jazz). Yeah, I did use a Picardy third, if you can call it that since it never really settled in minor. But the music does have a sort of minor flavor, which ended in major, so I guess Picardy third is right...
