I think the photos they do for these pageants are outrageous. It should be against the rules to photoshop the pictures. It's not "photogenic" if you can't get good pictures naturally. And most (if not all) of these girls that are being photoshopped take wonderful photos as it is. And every single one of them are beautiful. The heavy photoshop just tears down their confidence.

I know historically white skin has been viewed as the standard of beauty and used against communities of color, but the obsession with tanning pale skin tones is also problematic and traumatic to folks mentality as well. Half my family are Native American, but I have a lot of white biological members as well and as such I'm majority white. It's a point of a lot of pain for me because my skin color gets a lot of criticisms from others on why I shouldn't participate in my own culture. That it's appropriation and I'm not "dark enough or even look native". I'm a registered tribal member. And I'm learning to not be defined by my color. Please don't teach your kids that beauty is something other than what they are. You are enough. You are beautiful.
I'm sorry Sister. One of my good friends is an Alaskan Native. However - SHE does Not look native AT ALL !! She has Red hair and Freckles. Her tribe gives her Grief at their ceremonies and the other things they do as members of their tribe. They tell her that if anyone taking photos see's her they would Question Why a white person was participating. It hurts her feelings to the point where it seems like she can only express her hurt to her so called Caucasian friends. It hurts me to see & hear my friends pain. I'm not sure I understand their point of view because they all know that she's native by Birth but it remains the same. I'm sorry girl. 🙏 & ✌️

To me, that depends. "Bills" could be many things to different people. Like if she's saying, "I have to use this money to cover the money we spend to participate" and the kid actually WANTS to participate, that's one thing. Same if it's essentially for the kid - for example, "We use this money to cover the days I'll take off work while we all go on family vacation" which otherwise the child wouldn't be able to have.

I don't care what my future children look like. In my eyes, that's a kid I made with the man I love, there's no flaws in that. But no matter how stunning and close to beauty standards they are, I will never put them through pageants. And no matter how rough around the edges they are, I will never force them or teach them to be who they are not.
I have 2 daughters and make it a point to never bring up how they look.. I tell them they are perfect just as they are and encourage them to be kind and to give back. I also teach them the difference between confidence and arrogance. The mother that is messing with her kid’s meds is especially horrifying 🤬

The fake tan is the least thing I worry about. This mom is telling the photographer what to retouch on the photos of her daughters face because it’s not quite right!! Weirdo! That’s a good way to kick start the self hate and eating disorders! So her daughter has ADHD…….you take her off her meds for a competition with dozens of parents, children, and contestants, expose her to an incredible amount of stimulation and expect her to perform properly??!! I agree with you whole heartedly, looks fade we need to be teaching our children about what really matters, integrity, morals, family, education, so much more that a child could be learning about and taking time on especially privileged kids in the western world. Things like hobbies are okay for fun but it shouldn't be there whole life and being judged on looks at such a young age is deverstating.

As a pageant girl, I find this shit hilarious. Those are not real pageants those will not get that girl anywhere in life. Real pageants don't hand you a fan of $20 bills in REAL pageants. You get scholarships, a small crown, and a neutral-colored banner/slash. Also, in many pageant flippers (fake teeth) and hair extensions are BANNED. And the whole headshot scene is so ridiculous, judges take off so MANY points if you submit a photo and then show up, and it looks nothing like you.
