That is definitely a "one of kind" piece! 😊. It's what I would call "A two-state piece". It will hold solids or gas but not liquids. 😊. I turn a lot of lighthouses. I like to mount them on a base piece so they end up looking like a lighthouse on a rock. That's what I would have done with that piece. Sometimes I have a piece that is so awesome that I don't feel that I can turn it into something better than what nature has already created. That is how I felt about that piece but I would definitely have incorporated it into an art piece. All that being said, I do love what you have done with it. The crystal bowl is absolutely an inspired solution. Well done and thank you.
Yet another Phil Anderson Masterpiece. Mother Nature made a marvelous piece of wood but your work and a cheap and cheerful glass dish changed it into something anybody would be proud to own, Well Done yet again, Phil. Keep them coming, your followers will never tire of your work.
I am an artist by profession and see each piece as an art piece. I didn't see a moose, I saw human body parts in the work, and I liked it, a lot. I would like to have some wood like that, great job Phil, really inspiring.
Unusual, but beautiful, so artfully brought about. The glass gives a smooth area amongst all the twisting roots. Yes I see the moose sleeping. Thought some carbon paper between the bowl and wood to mark where it touched might have helped but you did well without it. I think you must do lathe work in your dreams to do it so well. A nice shallow dish about 1cm down would have been nice too, maybe not enough turning though. I don’t know, it is beautiful anyway I like it. I’m pleased.
You have done it again, Phil- another work of art. Incredible piece. The bowl is a great option. If it is wanted, it's there. If not, cabinet bound. Just the art is enough.
I think you made the best choice. I agree with the bowl you chose for it. You did the best you could with that incredibly awkward piece of lumber. Nice work Phil.
At first, I was very skeptical about whether or not this piece would hold together, but the master of this type of turning persevered. Definitely a 5 👍 up. Mother Nature is proud of you for preserving the natural look of the piece. Thanks for sharing and take care.
Another very unique piece. While I don't love every piece you make, they are all pieces of art. I don't believe that there are many people who would at😢tempt to turn the pieces you turn. Your imagination is incredible.
If you try and make everyone happy, you'll only succeed in making yourself unhappy. I think it's interesting and definitely looks better than when you started so that's a win in my book. Poor Bullwinkle. 😁
Mr Phil, to date, I've yet to see see a single one of your projects that I do not like. You're the only wood turner I watch who appreciates not just the beauty of the wood but the nature of the wood. You don't use resin, though I do like to see the work of those who do use resin. But resin is not your style. Your style shows off the pure nature of the wood. I love that about your channel more than anything. That being said, I love this piece, with or without the dish. It simply beautiful in its originality. The dish makes it a more functional piece for anyone who might make actual use of it. And I think it's a nice accent as well. You unlocked the natural beauty in this piece as only you know how. It's beautiful and I love it. 👌
I saw a horse head, a steer, and hotrod headers. I really over all like it a bunch. You try and succeed at so many projects that I don’t think I’d attempt.
Phil I like it. The glass bowl works but when you showed it without the bowl I really like it just as it is. The glass bowl with some hot tamales (red color) would set the whole piece off. This wood reminds me of cypress. I love the nature look. I could look at this piece for an hour just to see all the different ins and outs of the wood. Well done I really like it! Thanks for the show. Joel
Hi Phil. I really like how you found a way to make an interesting piece into something very nice and beautiful. Shows how something that looks impossible can be work with to something useful.
I think it's gorgeous! The small bowl was definitely the way to go. And I'm with you, the lid ruins the effect. Just leave it off. I'm always amazed when you work on pieces of wood like this. Most people wouldn't think it was suitable to turn. But, you always find a way. Another great work of art!!!
I saw a naked lady sleeping first and then when you put the bowl in, It looked like a pool in the middle of a forest. Thanks for the video. It helps me unwind after a stressful day 😊
Oh beautiful Phil the glass bowl makes it complete keeps the dust out of your candies. You just have a moose head not a dead moose that’s a great natural feature you found in the wood love it one of your best ever ❤
Phil, I think the glass bowl was perfect solution for this piece. It immediately gave a purpose for the project. If ever you find a better looking crystal container it would dress it up even more. Lovely work as usual. Toss the lid. Louis NC.
Absolutely looks like a sculpture! I didn't think I was going to like this one, until it started to take shape with what you saw in it. It's probably the most"organic" piece I've seen from you. I love it! Cheers, Rick
Oh Phil, I absolutely love it! I think you should put water candles in the bowl. You just fill half way with colored water and a thin layer of vegetable oil on top. The candle itself is a clear plastic mount for a wick. All you can see is the flame!
One of your best pieces for quite a while Phil, absolutely stunning. As for the lack of turning. Well sometimes less is more. You saw a moose, I saw a lady in an artistic pose.
I love it Phil. This is the type of turning I really enjoy. It's all beautiful including the glass bowl and the lid. BTW, that's not a dead moose, that's BULLWINKLE!! I now christen this the Bullwinkle Bowl. Keep up the great work and my God bless you immensely.
I love this!! Where you see the moose, I saw a moose at first but then I saw a snail. I really appreciate you sharing your talent with us. Thank you so very much. God Bless and Keep you always.
Sir … the unique way with which you approach every piece of wood is what I enjoy about you. I could never question why you did something because I am just here enjoying watching your process and awaiting the end result! You know what I would do with that “bowl?” … I would eat my cereal out of it, because the beautiful glass bowl now allows you to do so!!! As well as enjoying the nature!!! Just love it … its functional art!!!
As always Phil Artwork is always looking for it's person to love that particular piece. It's not up to us to find them. It's up to them to find what they are looking for. Happy turning still saving up for a new Lathe. Love the videos keep them coming. Keeps me sane while saving. 😊
Phil, I think this might just be my #1 favorite piece of all the bowls & such that you've ever turned. I would be proud to have this on a shelf in my home. I love the entire piece: from the wild lines all those branches provide to the glass bowl you've included. To me it's just plain beautiful! Awesome job!
Love it without the lid. I could display your marble collection in the dish. Like your solutions to holding the piece for turning. See I learned something new again. Thanks Phil. Have a big day and I don’t shop weekends either. Dan
Well Mr Anderson, you did it again, a lovely interesting piece and you made all the right decisions. I don't know if you could hear me, but I was talking to the screen saying YES! Definitely put a glass dish in it, and NO! Don't go for the big dish it would ruin it. In the end you did everything I wanted and it turned out perfect, I love it. Jane ❤
This is an amazing piece. Amazing the way it turned out. Amazing that you even attempted to turn a bowl out of a piece of wood like that. But that’s what you do, Phil. Nice work!!!
What an absolute joy to watch this piece develop Phil, to spend such a delightful 30 minutes with you as you take us all along on the journey with this wonderful piece. Once again we followed as you made, I truly believe, were all the right moves on this beautiful sculptural piece of Art, you really do have all the attributes of a true artist. A glass bowl was absolutely the right way to go with this piece & again the size of the glass bowl was the perfect size. Believe me when I say that, from the perspective of a Senior Master of Art, this final result has produced the best possible result from this absolutely beautiful root ball. Perfect result from a great woodturning Artist, & well done Tuffy for sending this root ball to absolutely the best in this business. Cheers Phil & prepare well for the coming winter & stay safe & well my friend & thank you for your return comments last week, they were much appreciated & I have kept it in a file I set up for future use. Don, from South Aust.
I love this one! Sometimes less is more. That's some nicely entwined wood and I like that you kept so much. The glass bowl is a nice touch. We'll done.
Phil, I like the piece, I am like you, I like unusual and different things. I do like the glass bowl it makes it useful if you do want to use it for something. Otherwise, it is a work of art, great piece.
Phil, You done good 😎😜😍😜😎! The colors and grain are amazing and the intertwined branches make it a really one of a kind piece. Where you see a dead moose 🫎, I see a bear’s 🐻 snout just above it. Pointing left from my perspective. Many thanks. Keep the aspidistra flying! God bless, Paul
I've sed before and i'll say again tonight your a wood artist Phil, G R E A T piece, love the glass dish addition and agree no lid. All the best from Lincolnshire UK
Phil, I have to say that when you said you were "kinda" looking forward to turning that tea tree, I thought that was the understatement of the year! You are a brave fella to say the least! It amazed me how that wood grew, so many twists and turns, very unique and something I have never even heard of. Couldn't image how you would tackle it, and yet you made something very beautiful at the end. Very impressive, and interesting! Thanks for posting, I always enjoy your videos, blessings to you, stay safe. Rick
Whatever piece you work on, I like to listen to your thought processes and explanations as you work and always learn. I often use a glue block and that was another interesting process. Please keep doing what you are doing Phil, the bowl is lovely 🌞
Oh my gosh, Phil! You did an amazing job on this piece!!! I love how you left the outside of the piece untouched and then did a smallish, shallow hole to hold the little crystal bowl! I agree, the lid doesnt 'work'. Its a beautiful art piece and who cares if somebody doesnt like it. If YOU like it, thats what matters! And Im betting there are others watching, besides me, who love it! Well done and thank you, Phil!❤❤
I now have a new favorite piece. Absolutly stunning. You never fail to surprise us viewers with your artistry. Love the glass dish. You will need to make more of this type of turning to use up your other glass ware
I absolutely love this piece!! My husband and I have just purchased a wood lathe, and are very anxious to start working. We are totally new to this, but he has worked with wood before and I was an Art teacher. We enjoy watching you!! Fans from NW Ohio.
This is a great job on a piece of wood I {and many other turners} would have passed on. Your effort is inspiring. Makes me think I should be more open to the possibilities for seemingly unusable wood pieces.
Phil, You have ALWAYS impressed me! I live in NH, I have yet to see a piece of wood you started with, forget attempting to mount and turn it on a lathe! This is one of my favorite piece's you have videoed. But the best part was your commentary on what to do, how to do, where to start and stop! And of course, your great humor, quick chuckles, makes me smile and laugh along with you! Please never change! Don't worry about the nay sayer's! Love you Phil and your wonderful wife who let's us share in your wonderful character! Keep Turning! Eric
Thank You Phil.... Wow, I remember that from looong ago. It was a VERY rainy day in San Francisco. I saw that wacky-o wood and I thought "Yes this will give Phil something to ponder, ha!". I believe that Tea Tree is native to Australia, New Zealand. Looking at a mature full grown Tea Tree that twists around the ground is like a tree that defies gravity just growing wherever it chooses. I really like the glass you chose and I also like the glass lid.. ALWAYS FUN Phil and until next time.....TM
Oh, I love knowing a little of the history, Tuffy, thank you! On the last Tea Tree piece, a viewer, I think Mark, showed me a picture of the tree and said "now I know where the big box stores get their 2x4's from!" LOL! See ya next time, buddy! 😊
Phil, I have only ever heard my Mother say that if everyone had the same opinion, it would be a boring world!! Makes me like you all the more.... I love the glass in bowl look it brings out the natural beauty of the wood!! Keep up the great work and the great commentary 😊
Well Phil I put this up on the top of the cool list of things you have turned. I like the choice of the bowl you choose and I saw so many animals hiding in every little nook I though you just turned Noah Ark. I saw people peaking out now and then as well. Just so cool is all I can say. You could put colored water in the dish and some pretty little rocks. But M&M's might be better. Great job buddy! Gary
“I’m not here to make everyone happy” …proceeds to make everyone happy
Haha, you are too kind, thank you! 😊
The crystal bowl is absolutely an inspired solution. Well done and thank you.
I agree, it's a unique piece of wood and you're right, it has potential in many directions! 😊
Phil, I love that your a real person. it's fun to listen to your thoughts as you work through the process. Thank you for being you
Thanks a lot, Rob! 😊
Totally agree with the size opening. The bowl insert adds to the artistic intent for the piece
😀
Yet another Phil Anderson Masterpiece. Mother Nature made a marvelous piece of wood but your work and a cheap and cheerful glass dish changed it into something anybody would be proud to own, Well Done yet again, Phil. Keep them coming, your followers will never tire of your work.
I think it's looking good I would never have tried to turn a piece like that and I enjoyed watching thank you Pat
Thanks a lot, Cliff! 😀
I am an artist by profession and see each piece as an art piece. I didn't see a moose, I saw human body parts in the work, and I liked it, a lot. I would like to have some wood like that, great job Phil, really inspiring.
Thanks, Leslie! I appreciate you seeing the art in it! 👍
Hi Phil. It needs nothing, no glass. whats more beautiful than the wood? Lovely wad! Nite!!
😀
Unusual, but beautiful, so artfully brought about. The glass gives a smooth area amongst all the twisting roots. Yes I see the moose sleeping. @@karenbrown9889 Good to know, Karen, thank you! 😀
You have done it again, Phil- another work of art. Incredible piece. The bowl is a great option. If it is wanted, it's there. If not, cabinet bound. Just the art is enough.
Agree! Display it without, add it when you want to serve from it. 😀
Phil, I thought retirement was about taking life easy, but you picked a hard one here! Another great outcome, thank you.
It's about keeping busy having fun, Bob! 😀
Beautiful work and belief in what God has given us to enjoy.
😀
Phil your work speaks to you. In your mind you see something?? Your hand an eye reveals that beauty within. Hats of to the Master.
Thank you, Michael! 😊

I love watching your videos, they give me the confidence to try new techniques. I think this piece is both interesting and beautiful. lots to
I appreciate you watching, thank you! 😀
I think you made the best choice. I agree with the bowl you chose for it. You did the best you could with that incredibly awkward piece of lumber. Nice work Phil.
Thanks, Paul! 😊
An extraordinary candy bowl. I love those squirrelly roots and it is just second nature for you to make them even more beautiful.
😀
At first, I was very skeptical about whether or not this piece would hold together, but the master of this type of turning persevered. Definitely a 5 👍 up. Mother Nature is proud of you for preserving the natural look of the piece. Thanks for sharing and take care.
Thank you, Scott! 😀
Great color and the glass bowl makes it more useful than having a big hole in the side. Very nice.
😀

Точно мои мысли, Иван, спасибо! Рад, что понравилось!😀
Another very unique piece. While I don't love every piece you make, they are all pieces of art. I don't believe that there are many people who would at😢tempt to turn the pieces you turn. Your imagination is incredible.
Thanks, Hairy! 😀
Phil all I can say is WOW I'm glad you went with the smaller bowl and kept as much of Mother Nature as possible Thanks for another AWSOME piece Terry
I'm glad you liked it, Terry, thanks! 😀
I love it! A very natural beauty! And I agree...no lid.
😀
It looks great. Fitting the glass bowl was well done and maybe the only way to save the majesty of the greatest amount of the wood
Thank you, Elmer! 😊
If you try and make everyone happy, you'll only succeed in making yourself unhappy. I think it's interesting and definitely looks better than when you started so that's a win in my book. Poor Bullwinkle. 😁

Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed comment, Les, I really appreciate it! 😀
Wild and un predictable, Just like an old girl friend I once had some 60 years ago. I like it Phil !
Those are the best kind, Warner! 😀
So much visual interest, the bowl stays, the lid goes!
😀
I saw a horse head, a steer, and hotrod headers. I really over all like it a bunch. You try and succeed at so many projects that I don’t think I’d attempt.
Thanks, Dale! 😀

Hi Phil. I really like how you found a way to make an interesting piece into something very nice and beautiful. Shows how something that looks impossible can be work with to something useful.
Thank you, Cal! 😀
Not boring....who wants something that looks like every other thing, unusual looking bowl, glass insert a nice touch.
Thanks, Tim! 😊
Phil, I think the dish was the perfect solution to what might otherwise have cut off too many of the limbs. Nicely done!
😀
i think the dish gives it purpose for those who don't have an imagination for the possibilities of this unique piece.
😊
I think it's gorgeous! The small bowl was definitely the way to go. And I'm with you, the lid ruins the effect. Just leave it off.
I'm always amazed when you work on pieces of wood like this. Most people wouldn't think it was suitable to turn. But, you always find a way.
Another great work of art!!!
Thank you, Kayla, I'm glad you like it! 😀
I saw a naked lady sleeping first and then when you put the bowl in, It looked like a pool in the middle of a forest.
Thanks for the video. It helps me unwind after a stressful day 😊
Thanks, Steven! 😊
Art works best with special little accidents? NATURE is Beautiful ❤️ the one with the top is nice ❤️😀
😀
I love it, Phil! It's a real "Wow" piece in my book. I think you made all the right choices.
Thank you, Karl! 😊
Oh beautiful Phil the glass bowl makes it complete keeps the dust out of your candies. You just have a moose head not a dead moose that’s a great natural feature you found in the wood love it one of your best ever ❤
Thank you so much, glad you like it! 😀
Very interesting piece.
Thanks, I like how it turned out. 😀
Phil, I think the glass bowl was perfect solution for this piece. It immediately gave a purpose for the project. If ever you find a better looking crystal container it would dress it up even more. Lovely work as usual. Toss the lid. Louis NC.
Thanks, Louis! 😀
That's a wild piece it came out so very lovely. I am glad you saved it's uniqueness.
Thank you, Judy! 😀
Absolutely looks like a sculpture! I didn't think I was going to like this one, until it started to take shape with what you saw in it. It's probably the most"organic" piece I've seen from you. I love it! Cheers, Rick
You're right, it is very "organic"! 😊
I think it is fabulous! With both the insert bowl and without it.
😀
Oh Phil, I absolutely love it! I think you should put water candles in the bowl. You just fill half way with colored water and a thin layer of vegetable oil on top. The candle itself is a clear plastic mount for a wick. All you can see is the flame!
I think I have seen those, Tricia. Cool looking, thanks! 😀
PERFECT choices and design for this wood!
😀
One of your best pieces for quite a while Phil, absolutely stunning. As for the lack of turning. Well sometimes less is more. You saw a moose, I saw a lady in an artistic pose.
Cool, thanks! 😀
Thank you so much, I'm glad you like it! 😄
I think it looks good, tons of nature.....looks fine with or without the bowl....
I'm glad you see the beauty of the wood itself! 😀
This is one of my favorite types of turnings. Thanks for sharing Phil.
😀
I love this!! Where you see the moose, I saw a moose at first but then I saw a snail. I really appreciate you sharing your talent with us. Thank you so very much. God Bless and Keep you always.
Wow, I never saw a snail! I always see the moose. I'm glad you enjoy my work, thanks! 😀
Yes, leave lid off. Yes, I love it. Keep em coming, I need the information and techniques.
😀
Sir … the unique way with which you approach every piece of wood is what I enjoy about you. I could never question why you did something because I am just here enjoying watching your process and awaiting the end result! It is fantastic, just like nature.
😀
It looks like abstract muscles. I agree with all of your decision on this piece. Great work.
😀
As always Phil Artwork is always looking for it's person to love that particular piece. It's not up to us to find them. It's up to them to find what they are looking for. Happy turning still saving up for a new Lathe. Love the videos keep them coming. Keeps me sane while saving. 😊

Love it without the lid. I could display your marble collection in the dish. Like your solutions to holding the piece for turning. See I learned something new again. Thanks Phil. Have a big day and I don’t shop weekends either. Dan
Thank you, Dan! 😀
That is totally different and very lovely, with that glass bowl that really adds to it! What I call a piece of art, well done and thanks!
Cheers Al
Thanks, Al! 😀
Just perfect, full of character and looks beautiful.
Thanks, Kamie! 😀
That is beautiful, but not for the faint of heart. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching and commenting! 😀
Jane ❤
Clearly made just for you, Jane! 😀 Thank you!
This is an amazing piece. Amazing the way it turned out. Amazing that you even attempted to turn a bowl out of a piece of wood like that. But that’s what you do, Phil. Nice work!!!
Thank you, Art! 😀
You are the man. I have seen probably 12 of your videos and that is the most gorgeous piece of wood I have seen in a long time.
Thank you, Joe! 😀
I think you did the right thing by keeping it that size !!
😀

Thank you! I always try to let the wood speak for itself, Steve. 😀
Well Phil it's an interesting piece you either going to love it or hate it I think I love it 👍👍
Thanks, Charles! 😊
Love this piece. One of your best projects I think. Definitely a conversation piece.
😀

Phil, you are an amazing artist...this is another masterpiece! I love turning odd pieces, too.
Thank you! It's always fun to work with the less-than-perfect pieces, sometimes the most interesting stuff comes from those. 😀
I like the direction you went with this, Phil. That bowl size is good, too. Beautiful 🎉
Thank you, Audie! 😀
Amazing work as usual. You cease to amaze me. The Picasso of Wood turning💥💯
Thanks a lot, Blair! 😀
Phil,
You done good 😎😜😍😜😎! The colors and grain are amazing and the intertwined branches make it a really one of a kind piece. Where you see a dead moose 🫎, I see a bear’s 🐻 snout just above it. Pointing left from my perspective.
Many thanks. Keep the aspidistra flying!

Thank you, Paul! 😀
I've sed before and i'll say again tonight your a wood artist Phil, G R E A T piece, love the glass dish addition and agree no lid. All the best from Lincolnshire UK
Thank you, Gary in Lincolnshire! 😀
Very unique, abstract. Love the coloration of the wood. You did it again.
😀
It’s an interesting , unique piece. I love it. Beautiful swirls in the wood. Good job.

Another beautiful piece from something most would have thrown away.
Thank you, Robert! 😀

All in good time, Chris! 😊 This one wore me out for awhile! LOL!
Amazing Phil. A lovely piece of wood, but very ordinary. Your hard work made it wonderful. Bin the dish......!!! Good old Duffy
Thank you, Barry! 😀
I absolutely love this piece!! My husband and I have just purchased a wood lathe, and are very anxious to start working. We are totally new to this, but he has worked with wood before and I was an Art teacher. We enjoy watching you!! Fans from NW Ohio.
Sounds like you two will make a perfect team for turning, Patsy! Enjoy! 😊
This is a great job on a piece of wood I {and many other turners} would have passed on. Your effort is inspiring. Makes me think I should be more open to the possibilities for seemingly unusable wood pieces.
They are the most rewarding, Robert. Try a couple, listen to the comments, you will have fun! 😀
I love it! The wood has so much character. I think the bowl looks good in it. I shop at Good Will often.
Lots of goodies there if you remember to go there! I always forget! 😀
Eric
Such a great comment, Eric, thank you very much! 😊
Love the bowl, thanks Phil The moose got his head stuck in the tree. Thank you for the video, Scott
😀
I see a chickens foot!! lol I love to watch you turn thank you Phil!!!
Thanks for watching, glad you're enjoying it! 😊
Unbelievable masterpiece.
Thank you so much! 😀
Well I think it’s an amazing piece. Gorgeous..
😀
Beautiful piece, Phil. I think it would make a beautiful table center with a short stemmed flower arrangement
😀
Another interesting finished piece! I like the glass bowl you chose, and with it being optional, that is even better.
😀
So glad that stayed together! I’d love to get my hands on a root ball like that. Good choice on the dish. I think it was just right.
Thank you! 😊
Hi Phil...well you made me happy. Ditch the glass...its a 3D map with canyons...IT'S Medusa...IT'S Fairytale woodland... it's ...beautiful
Cool, thanks 😀
Phil, I have only ever heard my Mother say that if everyone had the same opinion, it would be a boring world!!
Makes me like you all the more....
I love the glass in bowl look it brings out the natural beauty of the wood!!
Keep up the great work and the great commentary 😊
We must have had the same mom, Jon! 😀
Gary
Oh, I like the water and rocks, idea, Gary! That's something I would never think of on my own. Glad you like it, my friend, thank you! 😊
Hi Phil, it is just absolutely beautiful, you picked the right bowl❤❤❤
😀
I am weird and I like weird that is a beautiful thing Phil and the glass was a nice touch. Another great piece .I love it 😀
I’m glad you appreciate the weird, thank you, Ken! 😀
I like it. But without the lid. It’s very cool Phil. Another good video. Thanks. Sheryl
Thanks, Sheryl! 😀
I think it looks great and you chose the correct dish to compliment the artwork 👍🏻😁
Thanks, Robert! 😊
