About 10 or 12 years ago, a friend of mine had one these cars up at his house in Connecticut. We took a short drive, and we didn't go that crazy. The car felt like an absolute beast. Later that night, I had trouble sleeping in a strange house. I went out to the garage an just stared and looked all over the car for about two hours. It was mesmerizing.
@tekis LOL I’ve been there. I go up to Watkins Glen NY every year. They have all the old groups of race cars. They are not all pretty and waxed up. The guillotine doors, as you called them, have a historical background: as soon as the race started, the drivers who had been standing at the starting area until then had to run across the track to their cars. Here Ford's innovative door design helped the drivers to get in faster. However, this traditional start was abolished after Ford's 4th Le Mans victory in 1969. But at the same time (1969), Ford driver Jacky Ickx, protested against this type of race start, in that he and his team-mate Jackie Oliver only "walked" slowly to the car and did not run, as they considered this relay start to be too dangerous. They were also to be proved right, British amateur driver John Woolfe, who was driving the only privately entered 917, had a fatal accident. The 2006 Lincoln Navigator has the same engine as the GT (5.4L Triton, without the super charger or manual transmission, of course) and that beast was 3 tons of fun. Ours could walk away from almost anything on the highway. Though basically the same vehicle, our Expedition drives totally different, and the newer (2013) 5.4L doesn't seem to be quite the same powerhouse as the 2006. The thing I really enjoyed with the Navigator was pulling a 3,000-pound camper in the mountains. I'd set the cruise around 70 and all those "Fast" little cars that impatiently zipped by me a few minutes before on the downhill would disappear in the rear-view mirror going up the next big grade. I've always loved this car, ever since I first saw it, and drove it in Gran Turismo 4 & NFS Most Wanted. This is literally the car I was picturing in my dreams when I was younger, if some random stranger needed to make an (unbelievable) exchange with my father's car. The new one is good-looking, but not nearly as much as this one, which is a masterpiece. Keep driving legends like this, guys, you're nailing it!
Ford GT, my favorite car, and my dream since childhood, I lived this test drive with you, and it gave me goosebumps! thanks for this video, the supercharger sound can't be replaced by any turbine! ❤

"Oh Yeeeesssss" Exactly how Christian Bale felt while filming FORD vs FERRARI. The FORD GT is my all time childhood dream car, and upto date I have found no other car matching its beauty all round
I'd be afraid to drive that monster. The fact that it has a manual transmission makes it just so more lovely! I bet it is an awesome experience and congrats for the review!
Worth even more now... getting on for over half a million Euros, and the best examples even higher. Arguably one of the best retro tribute cars ever conceived. Far nicer than the latest Ford GT, and importantly it has a V8 😉
The Ford GT changed my life when I was in middle school. Saw one in person and was given the chance to sit in the driver's seat. That's when this D and C student turned into a straight A's smart ass. I'll have my own Gulf GT soon. I'll be back.
Although this video came out mere hours ago I have already watched it more than a handful of times. This is my dream car and this video is perfection. I hope you can get your hands on one for yourself one day so we can have many more videos like this to come! Thank you for the amazing content!!!
AutoTopNL is the best of the genre. Honest seat of the pants enthusiasm that is infectious. Go watch you some! Disclaimer, I grew up in hot rod fords and Mustangs.. Love your show!
That car is incredible. I was smiling ear to ear just by the sound of the engine and hearing the exitement in your voice. How much I wanted to be there in person. So incredible. Not just the speed, but the whole expérience must have been amazing. Really a special car.
That sound, that feeling of speed on the autobahn. It is pure Mulsanne straight on a daily basis. My fav car. Thank you for sharing. We almost felt the speed from our seats. Great video.
The best part of the video was the magical appearance of your assistant! 🤣🤣🤣 Love your enthusiasm on the special videos like this one...I feel like I'm driving myself!
Very well done and thank you. This is an all-time dream car of mine. Wow! I feel you. From looks to performance to sound all mated to that glorious 6-speed manual, this car is a rolling masterpiece! Also on point about that speaker. The sound of that supercharged V8 is all the music I need. The fact that the speaker is just intrusive and awkward makes it an easy thing to get rid of. A "pimple" is a perfect analogy for it. It is an ugly pimple on a beautiful face.
The interior is really amazing for its time. I'm actually suprised, since most of Ford cars were always ugly to me from the inside, and this one is pretty retro and holds up pretty well for today standards, in my opinion. The whole thing is perfection.
Other than the original 1966 Ford GT, this is the greatest Ford GT of all time. A supercharged, DOHC V8 with a 6 speed manual. Doesn't get better than that.
The Ford GT is my favorite car of all time. I turned 60 this year. My dad was a race engine and high performance street engine builder in the late '60's through the mid '90's. His customers and friends were really middle class, V8 muscle car guys. I didn't come to appreciate the GT-40 until later in life. When the Ford GT came out in '04, I learned the history of Ford at LeMans. I was glad to see Ford come out with this car, that could rival any exotic mid engine car, and do it in such a clearly stated American way! It's the same feeling as when the Dodge Viper came out, and we could say we finally had a world class contender in the supercar arena!
Definitely the most handsome muscle car ever. The Ford dealer near my home had a 2005. A red one. He sold it just a few years ago. New it was 180,000. Thank you for your video. It let me dream. In 1970 I had a 69 Mustang 428 CJ 4 spd. No power robbing accessories, and no Mach 1 graphics. Just Bullet green, black interior, and those really nice Ford steel rims. I purchased it for 1900.00 with 13k miles. I was 18 and in Heaven.
Oh WOW, the legend, the look, the sound, the gear box, the fucking sledgehammer remark and the view you gave me at 200mph is simply the best adrenaline rush I have ever had watching a TH-cam video. What a car! Thank you for giving me the best video I have ever seen, cheers!
Forget the amazing cars and amazing content you guys provide. This is an appreciation comment for you guys alone, absolute legends and you my friend are my favourite I have to say you make me feel like I am actually driving the cars myself ! Thanks again guys! All the best with the purchase of your GT that you will get I am sure!
I am not a Ford person.... I LUST after these cars, and I have never driven or even ridden in one. But, it is a raw, analog super car. And its drop dead gorgeous....and it sounds amazing, and its just....Ford did an amazing job.
Phew, this car was my childhood dream car and obviously it can still hook me, as I thought the video was maybe 5-7 minutes long! When someone pointed out in the comments something with a timestamp of 19:something I was dumbfounded, this car has the ability to bend time and space even through screen! Love it.
How can you not love the sound of V8s (or V10s or V12s)? I'm 31 years old, yet my inner-child awakes almost instantly just by the sound of this car. I'm a fan of Fords, I won't deny that, and my everlasting dream was to own one day a Mustang GT500 or Eleanor, the classic ones from late 70's of course, or this very model in the video. I mean cars like this are pure engineering masterpieces and I cannot imagine that one day we won't be allowed to drive them because of the Greens. Hell, I'm terryfied at the thought that there will be no more petrol cars of any kind, just bloody washing machines on wheels (which will do to classic cars what smartphones did to telephones, digital cameras etc. - practicaly killed them). I don't want to start any heated discussion here, just pouring out my sadness at the ever-faster changing world and that all this is happening without me/ us having no say in it - I just hope it won't end the way it did in The Time Machine, by Wells.
Ever since my Uncle had a 2.8 injection Capri in the 80's, I've been a ford fan, and never understood the hate they seem to get, but you know what they say, its a fine line between love and hate, and only badge snobbery stops anyone loving ford's
This a car is truly a legendary car!!! It's my all time favourite dream car. On the other side every sports manual Ford car is a very fun car and the best in their own class. Like Mustang GT500, Focus RS, Fiesta ST. All are very fun to drive
I have the exact color and it is by far the best of the best. Great video especially behind the wheel portion. Mine does have a about +100hp. but the motor was design and built to take a lot. Excellent video.
I’ve did a road trip on the GT. And it was super confortable, the look’s amazing ! And few years ago the car in France cost like 130k€ and for the heritage edition it’s over 1M€ for the lowest millage .. !
The issue at the time was similar to whats going on now with dealer markups in the US. The dealers would mark them up from 150k to 250k, and they werent getting a lot of them. then ford cut production due to low sales, and ended production. Back when it first came out, one of the dad's of someone i went to school with was able to get one at msrp by trading his spot in line at the ferrari dealer. It was blue with the white stripes. Truly an amazing vehicle, unfortunately screwed potential buyers over with the dealer markups. He used to drive back and forth from california and said he got it up to 200 a few times, from your video it really did look stable. The geometry of the suspension must be perfect, zero bump steer.
Actually production wasn't cut it was stopped due to a change in the roll over criteria for sedans (yes agree convertibles... but its government) so mine is one of the very last made after the US model year end of 31 Aug. They built all they could get done for the US and then finished the foreign orders (Canada, Oz, UK, Europe) and shuttered the line in Wixom. Sad day. Something around 4000 made, 271 came to Canada, not sure about other countries. I love mine and it gets to on the road every year.
there was one of these in the city I grew up in...blue and white. It always felt surreal seeing it on the road or parked. You are right, if you take the time to look at the design it is gorgeous and timeless
I once saw 14 of these in various liveries/colorways parked outside a restaurant in Indianapolis. There wasn't anyone in the lot to talk shop with so I kept walking. I didn't want the awkwardness of someone running out thinking I was attempting to steal their baby. Big regret. I've always assumed they had just attended a GT only meet at the track. IIRC, it was near/during race weekend. They're truly stunning in person...
Of all the available ‘super cars’ this is the one I would own first if I could. The design is so pure, minimal but faultless. None of the excess that turns me off many halo cars. A gorgeously styled street car with race hardware and performance.

This is literally the car I was picturing in my dreams when I was younger, if some random stranger needed to make an (unbelievable) exchange with my father's car. The new one is good-looking, but not nearly as much as this one, which is a masterpiece. Keep driving legends like this, guys, you're nailing it!
This is special guys... this car is a legend, it's flaws only contribute to just how perfect it is. Thank you for sharing this with us
Ford GT, my favorite car, and my dream since childhood, I lived this test drive with you, and it gave me goosebumps! thanks for this video, the supercharger sound can't be replaced by any turbine!
❤
16:56...Like a prehistoric predator attack...chills down to the spine..What a fantastic beast
bro 20:01 man just barked this car is turning him into something else lml it must be really that fun ive been watching him for a while and i never seen him have this much fun maybe that dodge challenger xl something maybe that was on par with this but damn man.
The emotions this car inspires on Max are very genuine. It's what speaks the most to me about this car. I hope I drive it one day.
"Oh Yeeeesssss"
Exactly how Christian Bale felt while filming FORD vs FERRARI. The FORD GT is my all time childhood dream car, and upto date I have found no other car matching its beauty all round
This is my absolute dream car, honestly one of the most beautiful cars ever made
Thanks Max you just raised the price of my favorite car also
I'd be afraid to drive that monster.
I am glad you got to experience this car. The sounds it makes and the way it drives are an incredible experience.
The Ford GT changed my life when I was in middle school. Saw one in person and was given the chance to sit in the driver's seat. That's when this D and C student turned into a straight A's smart ass. I'll have my own Gulf GT soon. I'll be back.
Amazing seeing someone appreciate the Ford GT the way it deserves. Awesome review!
This is a rare car in that there are no bad angles on the GT, it looks amazing no matter what.
80mph in 2nd gear..love it.
Flashing guy saying hey not safe at 180mph....perfect!
The Ford GT is what I would call 'visceral mechanical'. Absolute masterpiece.
An incredible drivers car! This is a car for people who want to know how real driving feels!
That car is incredible. I was smiling ear to ear just by the sound of the engine and hearing the exitement in your voice. How much I wanted to be there in person. So incredible. Not just the speed, but the whole expérience must have been amazing. Really a special car.
Your initial shots, especially during sunset like here, are an instant wallpaper material :D
I'm not even a car enthusiast, but that sound at 16:54 brings tears to my eyes
Literally one of the greatest car of all times along with the c6 zr1,the r32 gtr and the slantnose 911 turbo.
That sound, that feeling of speed on the autobahn. It is pure Mulsanne straight on a daily basis. My fav car. Thank you for sharing. We almost felt the speed from our seats. Great video.
The best part of the video was the magical appearance of your assistant! 🤣🤣🤣
Love your enthusiasm on the special videos like this one...I feel like I'm driving myself!
I think this might be my favourite car review video of all time!
The most beautiful ford ever made
AMAZING!! great video man!! These are the the true cars, without GPS, stupid screens, games, etc. I hope the cars came back to this design!
I think this is one of my fav. videos you guys have done. The sheer joy in your voice, and that brutal engine. epic!
Thank you for your review. It's so awesome to listen to the sound GT40 makes... Music to my ears. Pure pleasure.
The exhaust sound is pure music to my old ears!
We need more cars like this.
The visceral response I had watching this was awesome, and not unexpected
This car is just so awesome, even after all those years
This, the Mercedes SLR Mclaren, Porsche Carrera GT, and Lamborghini Murcielago were the iconic super cars of the 2000’s in my opinion.
Perfection ! I've loved this car since I was young!
12:33 was absoutely perfect
Thanks 😂
I am not a Ford person.... I LUST after these cars, and I have never driven or even ridden in one. But, it is a raw, analog super car. And its drop dead gorgeous....and it sounds amazing, and its just....Ford did an amazing job.
Thanks for the ride, sir……that was badass.
JUST WOWWWWW! What a car - and Autobahn surely is the best kind of road available to normal civilians to unleash this beast!
What a wonderful video, the love for this car is is obvious. Thank you AutoTopNL
I’m 48 and still laugh everytime I give a quick rev under every bridge I go under.
Don't blame ya :D
Thanks for this video!
I felt like i am there. I almost cried on it!
Thanks a lot man for this video!
FORD GT lenda das pistas👏👏👏
If it ain't yet, then it should be a classic ford muscle car. a lovely expose of the car's ability, very steady looking at 200 mph. thanks for this.
I’m so happy for you man!!! Epic
Its been my fav car since I was little, awesome to see this
I have the exact color and it is by far the best of the best. Great video especially behind the wheel portion. Mine does have a about +100hp. but the motor was design and built to take a lot. Excellent video.
What a beautiful car.Seeing one in real life is in my bucket list now.
I’ve did a road trip on the GT. And it was super confortable, the look’s amazing ! And few years ago the car in France cost like 130k€ and for the heritage edition it’s over 1M€ for the lowest millage .. !
I have watched so many of your videos. The pure joy in your voice came through in an unmistakable way more than it ever has. Great video.
An Outstanding Classic! These cars were hand built in such limited quantities, similar to the Lexus LFA for 2012.
Omg that was the best commentary of all time. I was so fired up when he was flying. Amazing car.
@@ODellEng interesting, didnt consider the safety criteria.
there was one of these in the city I grew up in...blue and white. It always felt surreal seeing it on the road or parked. You are right, if you take the time to look at the design it is gorgeous and timeless
my favourite car of all time!
I remember our visiting our local Ford dealer back in 05 and they had one in the showroom. Took my breath away then, and it still does today
I love the roar of the engine too 😀👍
Just fell in love with this car
