Hi Louise, just wanted to sayI loved this video! So helpful and it really hits home because I have recently painted a very red dahlia so you have taught me to keep going with red in layers to get the right tone. Also I have separately painted some gum leaves and a dried banksia cone which had some interesting shadows which I painted too dark. In addition I tried painting the shadow at the same time as the leaves. By doing it after the object is finished makes it clearer to get the correct shape 💃 I am going to try again! Thank you

Video tutorials about how you go about creating these amazing pieces would be very interesting to watch.

So useful to see the exact dilution of pigment you use for the initial shadow mix. I always end up doing lots of tests off to the side to get it right(ish). I think that shadows are so stressful because they can so easily ruin a piece that was going really well for ages! And sometimes you have to move your brain from intricate/delicate mode (painting the object) to a looser/charging style. However much I plan, shadows always seem to require a bit of courage- get in there, hope you get the tone right, get out and cross your fingers it dries right!

Thanks! I wished to see how you might manage to blend the lightest colours around the capsicum near the cast shadow. I think that light tones are pretty interesting to create more dept and dimensionality to the capsicum per se. Thank you so much for sharing.

Louise~ I love your work and your tutorials so much! I haven't started painting just yet - I'm waiting for some materials to arrive. Meanwhile, I have been watching sooo many of your videos, here and on SkillShare. I have always wanted to learn painting, and I am so excited!
In pottery, there are stains and washes that can be used for surface decoration in a similar way to watercolor - so this will be a way to develop a new skill that will cross over into my pottery. Anyway, I appreciate your time and efforts! 💜
