This is easily the very best explanation of paper wetness and how to paint using that wetness based on the effect you want to achieve. You are an excellent teacher. Thank you so very much. This beginner is so grateful to you!
I’ve watched this a dozen or more times & every time I have a little more “ah ha!” With respect to the levels of paper wetness. This is the BEST video I’ve seen on the topic. I especially like the video of each of the stages and the ways you show that stage can be used. I’ve haven’t seen another video that makes the topic of paper wetness so clear. Thank you!!
@Nan Schifris..hi nan..I’ve been struggling with this certain topic for quite awhile! It’s frustrating wasting time watching videos and not learning much. Now I read the reviews before I watch a video so I don’t waste any time. I love this channel, but I never watched this particular video. Your review was the very first one. Love your comment especially the word you used “ah ha”! That caught my eye instantly. You answered my question that allows me to stop look and listen. 🙂 it’s the people who are the ones that will guide us as well as the person who’s teaching us. I thank you for this. You have saved me time but more importantly my sanity. Seriously! I was so ready to throw ALL of my watercolor material right outside the door onto the street. That’s how frustrated I am. I’ve been struggling for about a year. I thought nope can’t do this. You my dear have given me hope. I thank you. I love her videos because she’s very clear on what she teaches. In layman’s terms for beginners. She did teach me an important lesson. Every piece of art that we do, is beautiful. If we despise it stop painting and put it away. Put all your paintings away and in a year look at them again. I did just that. Wow! I was actually amazed. I did that? I asked myself. Not to shabby I’ll say. So I worked on a couple of them and I actually thought hey this doesn’t look to bad at all. I have problems with the 1st layer. To me mine are so ugly and feel there’s no saving them. They’re ruined. I need to learn (working on it) to be very patient. One more thing..I don’t like videos that are teaching us with no sound but have words, as well as how fast they paint. I know they speed it up but that’s not teaching a person. Ever since they started Patreon (sp), that’s all I see now. I’m not learning. I’m not rich either. I feel as if people have gotten greedy or something. Like the saying goes “nothing is free anymore” well that’s clearly a true statement. This lovely woman isn’t like any of that. She teaches. Sorry so long but I was venting and I’m so sorry it was with you lol. I wanted to thank you for your impressive comment and now my comment has turned into a novel 😂 Omgosh I’m sorry. Sequel coming soon😂😂 jk. Blessings from Michigan
This is the most important video on watercolor painting I have ever seen. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I just started watercolor 4 months ago. This information really helps me!
One of the best water control videos I've seen. Most are focus solely on wet on wet/wet on dry, but there is so much more in between that nobody seems to talk about, which is why so many find water control challenging - there's just very little information on that other than the simple wet on wet and wet on dry. I learned that damp paper doesn't work the same as wet paper and that almost dry paper most definitely isn't the same as dry paper the hard way (i.e by trial and error and a lot of frustration), which is why I know that this video will be a valuable resource to many. Great job Louise! Another water control subject no one seems to talk about is how to control the amount of water in your brush, and also the amount of water needed in your brush vs. how much water there already is on the paper. Took me a while to learn on my own and might be worth considering as video subjects and maybe extending this water control video to a mini series 😊
@Palmira Farkash…Omgosh thank you for you outstanding review that I desperately needed to read before I dove into another time wasting video! This will NOT be one of them! I’m a beginner I’ve been painting a little over a year. A beginner because of wasted time on videos that were useless. My biggest nemesis water control! Wow! So now I look at reviews before watching. I’ve probably spent ah let’s say 100 hours watching useless videos. So if the commenter is happy and positive.. I trust their judgement so I’ll watch. I believe what happened is when Patreon (sp) started up everyone jumped on the bandwagon (greedy) and all tutorials went down into the swamps of uselessness! Louise teaches in layman terms which in reality is what beginners need. I pray I can get this mastered or supply’s will be in the street free for the taking🙀😂 my patience has run so thin I’m surprised I’m still trudging on. Wish me luck! Thanks for your comment. It has definitely given me some hope. Sorry so long 🤦🏼♀️. Blessings from Michigan janis
I'm new to watercolors and have struggled with various techniques. I am SO happy to have found your channel! You explain things so clearly. Thank you!!
this is VERY HELPFUL! your photographer really got the sheen for us, so we can see exactly what you mean, THANK YOU!! I'm a "visual" person, yes, I need the verbal with a lesson, but I learn "better" with a visual. I also really like, how you EXPLAIN all the aspects for us, with an actual painting, for each particular "lesson", that really helps, too. Lauren
Phenomenal tutorial! Just the order of how you explain things is so much better organized than most tutorials and really helped me understand exactly when, why, and how to use different techniques. Can't wait to watch more of your videos!
You miss are the best teacher I'Ve ever seen. You make everything so clear and easy to understand! The examples are wonderful too, and the video is well produced.
Your videos are easily the best that I have found on watercolor painting -- they're concise yet absolutely crammed with information and happy visuals. I love how you combine techniques to get some amazing results! Thank you for sharing these!! I hope that one day I can paint as well as you do :)
I am new to your channel and a beginner in watercolor painting. Wet on Wet has been my most frustrating technique. Thank you for showing the 4 different wetness of the paper from the side and with a comparison with another type of wetness. It was helpful to see the technique in a painting as well as on scrap paper. This has been the most helpful video and I have watched a number of them.
All of the accolades on this page are so richly deserved! I cannot improve on them, but I wholeheartedly agree! You are a wonderful teacher......no one else I have encountered compares. Please take a bow~ :)
Louise, I appreciate how you teach and demonstrate about hard vs soft edges so clearly. The tip about holding two brushes at a time is helpful too. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise with others!
This was very helpful. I love how you explain exactly what you are doing and tell what colors you are using as you go. I've said this already but you have the best teaching style on youtube. I have learned so much from your videos.
I love your manner and light humour Louise. I learn so much from you. I watch you on Skillshare and here. The more presentations you do, the more we see your personality and it feels like i am actually in your classroom. And what an artist you are. Well done to you!!!
You're such an amazing teacher ! Best watercolor tutorials I've watched so far !! And I love your soft voice and gentle tone. Looking forward to more videos !
You are new to me, and I just LOVE your instructional videos! Everything is so clear and easy to understand. Thank you so much. P.S. Your paintings are beautiful!
Thank you so much Louise:) It is always such a pleasure to watch and listen to your excellent and extremely well taught videos. You are such a gifted artist and teacher:)
OMG! You have so beautifully explained and demonstrated how moisture levels are so important and how to exploit them for various different desired results! I have not seen this kind of tutorial before. I love watercolor, but rarely attempt and very rarely complete. I create mess and leave. I kind of feel hopefull today if I understand as you have explained how 'water /moisture ' works in 'watercolor' probably some day I will improve after some trials and practice with your tutorials.
I rarely comment on videos but I must agree with some of the other people on here. You have some of the best videos on watercolors that I have seen on TH-cam. Thank you very much for your time and effort. I love your paintings 💐
Thank you for this magnificent video! Very specific. It's very important that advanced artist can explain this things to the ones with less experience. It's very kind from you
Hey Louise, I know this is an older video, but I've been watching it over a few times, as I'm prepping for teaching my first watercolor class! You're so clear and easy to listen to. Thanks for this important basic lesson, it will really help me know where to start my class 😊
Though years ago, this process was explained at university. Your explanation of watercolor paper wetness was so.... well, illuminating! MUCH clearer than I've ever had it explained before. I love the soft, calming, confident, patient, measured, systematic, knowledgeable way you provide information! I'll connect with you on Patreon!
This was fabulous. You helped me to understand more about watercolor than anyone else has done. I had these questions in my head and confused with all these "what ifs" but never knowing the answer, and you answered them for me. This helped me tremendously. Thank you for explaining it so well. I will go and check your tutorial pages out.
This is the best video on this subject I have seen in years. In these pandemic times, with difficulties to have presencial classes it is a jewel. Thanks. If you can address also the issue rate water/pigment in the brush, it will be invaluable for us. Thanks again 🙏🏻
It was so much nicer when you gave us the colors you used and the brushes. It really helped. Not all of us can afford classes. Etc. Please consider adding this back to your information on your YT channel.
