Nice design. Growing up in the north east part of the US 70+ years ago there were a lot of dirt roads including ours. Cars drive by and clouds of dust drift over the house and Mothers wash drying line behind the house. The town would send a tank truck with a horizontal pipe (with holes accross it) two or three times a year gravity spraying used motor oil on the road to keep the dust down. All the towns did that with all their roads. They would also spray oil on paved roads to keep them from drying out and cracking, much cheaper than new pavement, of course a lot of oil leaked or washed off onto the dirt on the side. Times change and now any oil drips on the ground will destroy the earth. Who knew?

Hi Warren, that's interesting, I wonder if they used to mix the oil with something? If I remember correctly tar is a by-product of some of the petroleum processes anyway. I don't believe the oil will destroy the earth, just make driving my bike a little more interesting than I would like. All the oil from my vehicle services etc. gets used in my backyard foundry anyway, so for me its a valuable resource. Some of my videos have the furnace in if you interested... BTW you must have recognised the Ariel twin, they would have been popular in those days.

That is a nice Arial but rare over here. I never worked around a foundry but I have my Fathers forge and tools and a 200 (?) pound anvil I bought 40 years ago from a lumber mill auction for $50.

Suppose it was a British bike, we get bikes from all over which makes life interesting. Can't beat old tools, they last much longer than the newer stuff. I've been very impressed with the build quality of the Harley. I've worked on a few bikes and there's not many places I can find fault.

In my experience Harleys will give you gray hair. But I have two, a 1981 FXE with a 88" Panhead engine I bought in 1998 and a 1978/1980 whatever Sporty ex drag bike I bought in 2016 that I am going through, new 74" stroker engine but lots of stuff to fix. Adventurous fun, more gray hair but at 75 years old I have lots of gray hair so it doesn't matter. 😃
