LPC Loon Cam 1 ~ Female Loon Lays Second Egg Tonight! 💕 💕 Congratulations! 6.21.24

- The female loon goes into labor tonight at 00:29 and she has steady and strong contractions with her laying her 2nd egg at 00:34:59 tonight! Congratulations Mom & Dad loon! She did not get up at all after delivery of her egg so hopefully we will see them both in the morning! Both parents will take turns incubating the egg - normally two eggs will be laid, sometimes three. The estimated hatch dates will be between July 14th-17th.
In the 2023 season for Loon cam 1, territorial disputes led to the nest being left unused, a first in many years. This season, a pair has been visiting the area regularly. The female is a new member of the pair and has no record of nesting. The male has been using this nest for years and can be identified by its unique band colors-white over orange and silver over blue. The female is not banded. LPC loon cam 2 did have a successful season for 2023.

@@serapmehmet3346 Thank you!! I feel like a big piece of my heart has been ripped out & it is not the same any longer. I would watch that cam all day/night long and then one day it was over. I don't go there any longer. And I am so sad over losing Tiny the way he died rips me up. I don't want to keep saying that on chat so I just keep it to myself. Hello Janmarie - I miss several of my summertime nests this year - like Angel the red tailed hawk - no eggs laid, Two Harbors - Cholyn's egg did not not, our dear Sauces pair and Audacity's eggs that keep breaking and my favorite osprey nest at Dalgren where Jack the hoarder and Harriet never returned this season (a new osprey couple took up residence) and a few others. The loon season is short - once the chicks hatch they will start swimming the next day and we may only get to see them a couple of days before they swim to their summer spot (out of cam view).Thanks for watching! There is a second loon nest and cam so I may switch back and forth between them! TC ♥

@@SilvanaSouza-wy5rv Tiny (Smallie) was the last hatch and was 5 days younger than siblings. As the weeks went on, Tiny fought hard to get food but being so little suffered from severe malnutrition. That did not stop our brave chick, he overcame the odds and continued to grow! He still was half the size of his siblings when he fledged on June 16th. Tiny was rescued and put back on the platform under the nest. He had such a strong will to survive - he didn't want to be left alone in the nest & saw his sisters getting fed and he would try to fly but he was not strong & needed to grow more before flying. Tiny ended up in a canal and some people rescued him on June 17th - he was put back on the 2nd platform but he was not well. He passed away there. Tiny was loved worldwide for his will to live & we all were rooting for him! It was the worst day to know he did not survive 💔I will try and do a tribute video of Tiny and tell his story.
