    Hey! Great review - curious how the driving experience feels compared to a 40i xdrive. Obviously the acceleration is going to be better but more curious about how smooth it is on a normal commute, character differences between the two engines, air suspension vs steels, etc.

    wow seems like 50e has so much more torque and +10mi range and charges 2x faster than my 1yo 45e, and so much more impressive tech... I still like my 45e looks much better and it's been already so nice. but 50e is pointing to a really exciting future of PHEVs! (only if they could not take away the real 1-8 buttons)

      @Colotoddo ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidberan9612 I'd be happy to. Comparing this to my previous X5 (F15), it is nothing at all like it. If I'm looking to get to and from work on battery alone, I can do that, and drive in peaceful bliss. If I want to go fast I can put it in sport and it'll totally rip! I would compare the 50e (sport mode) to the performance of last year's M50i. It really does pull that hard with the combined 483hp.
      There's so much tech in the vehicle, I'm still learning is capabilities. I went for m-sport and every option, except the trailer hitch. Yesterday I back it out from one parking space into another across the parking garage...from my phone. I'm blown away by this car and everything it has to offer.
      As for ride quality, the air suspension really helps compensate for the staggered 21" wheels and run flat performance tires. My F15 had a staggered setup as well but it was much rougher. I'm sure there are other luxury SUVs out there that are similar in some ways, but I truly feel BMW nailed it with this LCI. I would encourage you to visit a BMW dealership and take one for a test drive. They're pricey but worth every penny, IMHO.

    • @Colotoddo
      @Colotoddo ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mbdint that's a great question, Boris. It is a little vague, especially in sport mode. I liked the feel of the 535i in sport much more than the 50e. Don't get me wrong, the 50e is a beast in sport, but the steering feels a bit loose compared to either the F10 or F15. Hopefully BMW sorts that out.

    @BMWofFW - I got my X5 50e 2 months ago and absolutely love it, even though I wish it had a bit more miles on electric. I am thoroughly enjoying JP's videos as it is super clear and help me learn about my car. I would like some clarity on the EV charging as my attempts to speak with the local Genius have not yielded a clear response. Is there a throttle within the car that controls how fast it can charge? Until I get my 240V charger installed at home, I am using L1 charger at home and L2 charger at work which is a 6.2KW charger. I found a L2 Chargepoint charger that showed a capacity of 19.2KW and tried to charge my car there thinking a higher KW output meant faster charging However, upon plugging the charger to the car it displayed a charging rate of 6.2Kw per hour and the usual 3-4 hours for a full recharge. Appreciate some clarity on this. Thanks

    • @BMWofFW
      @BMWofFW  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So your 50e can take up to 7.4kW, double the 3.7 of the previous gen. the charge curve, like with full electrics, optimizes to whatever it can, if you're plugged into a local municipal circuit you're likely only pulling 206V instead of the home 240V, which would lower you around 6.6 kW at the same amperage. That's my best guess as to why you're car's only pulling 6.6 instead of the 7.4 max it can.

    Hello there ! 3 questions? Charging can be from an Nema 14-50 outlet, 40amp breaker circuit that’s what I have at home does the car comes with a 240 v plug-in ?
    2nd thing want to know if I don’t install an bmw wall box Gen3 wich is hard wired directly, can the 50e manage itself the amp or voltage that I plugged from my Nema 14-50 output?
    since the bmw wall box is the brain of distribution of the electricity,
    3rd Q. And how long will take to charge a complete battery say at 15%left ?
    Thanks in advance

    • @florinvid
      @florinvid ปีที่แล้ว

      The car doesn't come with a stage 2 charging cable, only stage 1. If you have a 240v outlet, 40 Amp, with a gen2 charger, I charge (a X5 45e) from 0 to 100%, in about 4 hrs.
      So I assume this new model, being able to charge at 32A, should be quicker, maybe a little over 2 hrs?

    • @BMWofFW
      @BMWofFW  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Florinvid is right... sadly right now all plug in hybrids from BMW come with the Flex Charger, but only the Level1 chord. the Level 2 NEMA 14-50 SHOULD be available really soon but as of right now only the full BEV cars are coming with both Lv 1 and 2 chords.
      2. The car will always manage itself and take as much charge as it can. Think of charging as a 3 chain link and the system is limited only by it's weakest link. so as long as A) the outlet/circuit B) the charger and C) the Car... as long as it has access to 240V and at least 7.4kW it will take in that much... if the system puts out 240V 48A and 11kW, the car will only take 7.4kW as IT's the weakest link. Savvy?
      3. Assuming about 15% charge to 100% on the highest possible circuit i'd say best guess 3.5-4 hours @ 7.4kW

    Hi, I am confused. I just watched a review of the same car, 2024 X5 50e, done by Autogefuhl, and its range on the battery shows 76km (47 miles) at only 75% charged or about 100km (60 miles) when 100% charged. Another reviewer from the UK quoted about 70 miles of electric range. Any ideas on that big difference?

I'm not sure what the car should display when fully charged, but as a Tesla driver I am well used to Rated range verses real world range🙂 I guess someone has to actually test it to see what the real electric range is around town. Bottom line the X5 50e looks like a good vehicle for someone who wants to get out of a Tesla into a nice German car, but doesn't want to have to deal with the current state of the non-Tesla DCFC charging network.

    Ok, here is a question regarding "Battery Hold"! Lets say one enables Battery Hold,...at a current level of 40%,...when the system is providing "Regen", will the battery level percentage increase as they drive and use Regen?
    For instance, lets say one starts a long trip,...800 miles and depletes the battery to 20 percentage, but then engage BH,...and over the course of driving some 400 miles there is some regen taking place,....will the system add charge back into the battery by regen means? Essentially, one could potentially gain a charge level up to 33% (or more),...which means 12% was gained via Regen!

    • @BMWofFW
      @BMWofFW  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I assume it is to improve mpg economy figures. It obviously can charge the battery but some computer trickery tells it not to go above a set point. Which probably encourages you to plug it in whenever you can and save gas. But if your journey consists of 30miles of town driving followed by 100miles of motorway you probably have little electric left for your city centre miles to the office. Why not charge when the engine is running at maximum efficiency?

    $7,000 for e drive. About what, 5 years worth of gas?

    • @BMWofFW
      @BMWofFW  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well I’d say it’s 3 fold… 1) more efficiency, 2) more power, and 3) more range. In terms of gas you’ll be getting it less frequently because of the extended EV range and if you factor in. Daily adding of 40 ish miles per day for all of $0.80 of electricity, you’ll be getting a good chunk of saved gas in comparison. Since every 40 miles of gas could be anywhere from $6-8 of gas (assuming about $4.24 gas and a 28 mpg average consumption. So factor that in a single day extended to 5 years, Basic math is $6 of gas per day for 365 days times 5 for 5 years comes out to $10,950, the same for the $0.80 a day over 5 years is $1460… so the math saved instead is $9496 saved) SOOO $7000 premium for PHEV tech saves $9496 in gas savings alone… then add the other standard features that you don’t get with gas only like Air suspension (a $1000 option on other trims)… I’d say factoring this alone you’re looking at $10,496 savings over 5 years 19,992 over 10 years… I’d say worth it…
