Hi great video. Please do you know why is not possible to adjust the speed according the traffic signs without having to press set while using the drivers assistance?
Safety feature, it'd cause the vehicle to do abrupt stops and many times may not detect the limit properly, so it's better to leave the control to you to press the set button.

For those 3 items whenever you make an adjustment you have to press SET 1 or 2 on the door each time in order to save the setting. When you have multiple driver profiles switching off, the vehicle will detect this and move these 3 items automatically. But, only when the the driver profile switch, if you leave the vehicle with your profile and come back into the car again it will not change the seat to what you have saved on set 1 or 2.
Great video. I learned many new features in iDrive 8. One question. You can easily rearrange icons in all apps menu by holding and dragging, but how can you rearrange shortcuts? Simply clinking and dragging won’t work in once assigned in shortcuts. Could you please let me know the way of moving around shortcuts? Thanks.
Is it possible to get the shortcuts menu up when in Apple CarPlay? Don’t like to use the touchscreen that much or voice commands, so want to be able to get to that from moving the control circle thing
Love this. 2 quick questions, do they still have universal garage door openers in new BMWs, specifically the iX? Also is there a setting to save a location to auto fold mirrors like as I approach my garage? Thanks
I do believe the iX should still have the garage buttons near the rear view mirror. There is not a way to have a location fold in the mirrors, only one for the windows. You would have to press the fold in mirrors button located on the window controls, you can also set it so that it can fold in the mirrors when locked, this is located in the settings.

Yes, if you have iDrive 8 you can. The way you would do this is go into your main menu where it shows ALL the apps, there you should see Waze, Pandora, which you can click and hold and add to shortcut. I know this works for Carplay but have not tried it for Android Auto.

For the idrive 8 system is very complicated, would only recommend a technician do it. Has something to do with holding down the bc button or gear icon for a certain amount of seconds etc etc.
I won't drive an hour just for a technician to reset that. THat's why I do my own oil change and why I want to know how to reset it. So, that's why specific instructions, even if complicated, would be helpful and appreciated.@@BeamerView
@@TBBartling Put car into diagnostic mode by pressing engine start stop button 3x. Then if you have the BC button on the turn signal or Gear Button on the steering wheel. You’ll be using it to.. Press and hold for 24 seconds, release then press and hold for 7 seconds, release then press and hold for 7 seconds It’s VERY tedious and has to be exactly done by the second.
The iDrive 8 wide screen is aweful. Just look at the reflections for a start. Then take the short cut buttons. Before with a dedicated set of buttons it was just one press of the button, now it is swipe down first then select the icon/button. Sorry BMW, I was read to order a new 3 Series M320d but I will be looking else where.
Takes some time getting use to for sure. Voice command does a lot of the tricks now so that helps. Reflections might be worse in the video since I usually record with the film still on the screen.
you can add up to 8 more - just long press on what to want a short cut to (eg radio station), and select add to shortcuts. Then go to shortcuts drop down and it should appear in a new set of 4, above the 4 defaults. Keep adding, and the fifth will be on a second (third) row. Good luck, I'm still reading and watching videos.....
There is a car wash view that it has the ability to do. This is only available if the vehicle has the Parking Assistance Plus package, which comes with the 3D View.
Takes some time getting use to for sure. Make sure you have the BMW ID setup to use the full features. I tend to use voice commands a lot of the majority of the commands. Climate is pretty much the only reason for touching the screen since I'm in apple carplay the majority of the time.
Wish there was a way to program car to turn off radio after turning off engine and opening car door without locking the car. Don't always want to lock car at home. Hate having to remember to push the volume button to turn off system.
Instead of using the shortcut to program radio stations, I just use the voice activating assistance to put on whatever station etc I want. Plus it's much safer using the voice activating system.
Good point, yes you would have to open the driver side door and manually unlock the trunk in order to get into it. This is the case if you have Digital key only and not digital key plus.
voice command in these bmws suck jajajaa I have a 2019 and everytime I ask it to do something its doesnt understand me for whatever reason or it will say something that I didnt even ask it to do
Yup that menu button can be different depending on which BMW you have. If yours goes into the HUD then you may just have to use the BC button that's on the turn signal stock.
So using your phone as a key means if a thief steals your phone he can also steal your car?? Come on ! Don't be lazy , its a press of a button to open and lock your prized asset . With all the technology you are aiding the thieves no end. Get a aftermarket immobiliser, keeps key fob in a protective pouch or tin , disable comfort access , keep your car!
Chances are very un-likely, cars these days can be tracked via GPS, and would be quite foolish to steal a high tech vehicle like this one. I believe you can also set it so it requires a passcode but at that point might as well just grab the handle.
Just sold my M3 because it came with idrive 8, tried to like it but it is rubbish. You cant even turn the fan up or down without going into the system and they call that improvement, basic functions should require basic actions. Utter garbage & dangerous.
It does take some time getting use to, the fan speed adjusting can be a nightmare if you do do it the manual way. I usually keep it in auto and adjust the temp below the screen.
@@BeamerView I appreciate what you say, but do you not think what you are doing is a compromise because of the system? Plus even turning the heat up and down is hard work on country roads with potholes, you have to take your eyes off the road and steady your hand on the carbon lip on the dash or grab the top of the screen because you have no actual button, it's a perfectly flat screen, its plain dangerous. Just took delivery of my M135i xdrive with id7, whilst I appreciate its a completely different driving experience, to jump in it and have heated seats, fan adjustment, heat adjustment, shortcut buttons is just bliss. I dont like the like the slab screen of id8 but could live with it if we just had basic functions on proper buttons. Id8 is a step forward in many ways but also a step back in simple functionality, overall it is an absolute fail.
Absolutely agree with you. Its plain dangerous. I just took delivery of the new 230i. Hated the system, loved the car! Thank god for my lane assistant, because I drift everytime I change my temp settings. Its shit. Ill sell the car only because of this.
it was a cost cutting mechanism because of covid supply chain shortages. people that rationalize it as "new and better" or say "just gotta get used to it" are dumb and getting played. sucks your M3 experience hasn't been great, but at least you aren't a brainless drone!
I've just got my new M440i Gran Coupe, and whilst I love the car, I hate the tech. Illegal to even hold a mobile phone whilst driving here (UK) but fine to be able to drill down into this incredibly distracting system at 70mph. Technology for technology's sake and a step backwards. I wish my car had 7 (like the demonstrator did). I truly hoped BMW might be the ones to hold out against this idiotic move, but the dealer tells me the X1 is now completely touchscreen. They've done away with the controller. I don't know ANYONE who likes complicated touchscreens - the manufacturers are deaf. Now it's only Mazda who are being sane, but I wouldn't want one of their cars.
Agreed, hard to control the screen while your driving, i've noticed the 2 best ways to get around this would be by using voice commands, either BMW or siri. Also the use of the shortcuts menu does a lot to counter this as well.

In the menus try searching for "remote engine start" if its not there try going to connecteddrive.com and see if you can purchase it from there. You may also be able to from the my bmw app.
Happy Holidays!
@@BeamerView thank u fir the suggestion For the remote start i've had it on my last few cars( other brands) And you get spoiled. I also am calling tomorrow to make an appointment with the Genius bar at the dealership. Its within walking distance of my house. I will ask them as well. I can't believe that at this price point and competition so stiff they wouldn't have it on the remote.
I am very jealous of iDrive 8. it's super cool! Makes the 7 look like a 20 years ago technology. Great video again!
Couldn't agree more! iDrive 8 was a bit difficult to use at first, but using the browse menu and voice commands made it much easier.
poor
how do you reset the oil change notification after changing the oil?
For the idrive 8 system is very complicated, would only recommend a technician do it.
Has something to do with holding down the bc button or gear icon for a certain amount of seconds etc etc.
I won't drive an hour just for a technician to reset that. THat's why I do my own oil change and why I want to know how to reset it. So, that's why specific instructions, even if complicated, would be helpful and appreciated.@@BeamerView

Put car into diagnostic mode by pressing engine start stop button 3x.
Then if you have the BC button on the turn signal or Gear Button on the steering wheel. You’ll be using it to..
Press and hold for 24 seconds, release
then press and hold for 7 seconds, release
then press and hold for 7 seconds
It’s VERY tedious and has to be exactly done by the second.
Thanks, will try that.@@BeamerView
That unfortunately did not work... I think that might have been the procedure previously, but doesn't work with idrive 8
Great Review, but i hate Idrive 8.. Should have kept physical buttons rather than drive and scroll..
Love it or hate it feature for sure. I do wish they kept the physical buttons for the climate at least.
Could you do the same with a m340i
The New M340i yes, 2023+
How many shortcuts can you have? The screen only shows 4
you can add up to 8 more - just long press on what to want a short cut to (eg radio station), and select add to shortcuts. Then go to shortcuts drop down and it should appear in a new set of 4, above the 4 defaults. Keep adding, and the fifth will be on a second (third) row. Good luck, I'm still reading and watching videos.....
Dsmith is correct, I have seen up to about 8. You would just have to make sure your BMW ID is set, and continue to add shortcuts.
Nice video mate, very helpful
Glad you think so!
Is there a car wash mode like tesla
There is a car wash view that it has the ability to do. This is only available if the vehicle has the Parking Assistance Plus package, which comes with the 3D View.
I cant use it. I have a new us spec bmw in Europe. Its horsecrap. Any ideas? Anyone using their full features?
Takes some time getting use to for sure. Make sure you have the BMW ID setup to use the full features. I tend to use voice commands a lot of the majority of the commands. Climate is pretty much the only reason for touching the screen since I'm in apple carplay the majority of the time.
Wish there was a way to program car to turn off radio after turning off engine and opening car door without locking the car. Don't always want to lock car at home. Hate having to remember to push the volume button to turn off system.
Check your settings, they may have a setting in doors/access settings where you can set that.
Voice command makes me feel better about my new X5.
Yes more important than ever to be using voice commands and the personal assistant on the newer BMWs
Instead of using the shortcut to program radio stations, I just use the voice activating assistance to put on whatever station etc I want. Plus it's much safer using the voice activating system.
Voice would be the best option for sure, Shortcuts is good, I would only access it by using the idrive controller though.
@@BeamerView yeah same. 👍🏽
I have a cci . It does bugger all .
Never heard of the cci, what is that?
it would’ve been so much better if the screen were separated for the speedometer kinda like e/s class
Many feel this way too. I feel all the vehicles are switching into going this route lately.
Thank you !!!!
Anytime!
Voice command is great but it makes no sense that it will roll down your window for you but won’t roll it up. At least in my LCI m340 it won’t
Yup it cannot roll up, I want to say that this is because of safety reasons from peoples arms getting chopped off =)
You still need the physical key fob if you want to open the trunk.
Good point, yes you would have to open the driver side door and manually unlock the trunk in order to get into it. This is the case if you have Digital key only and not digital key plus.
voice command in these bmws suck jajajaa I have a 2019 and everytime I ask it to do something its doesnt understand me for whatever reason or it will say something that I didnt even ask it to do
I'd prefer to use siri since it does a better job of understanding.
And you say you can actually drive with this computer?
Yes if you ask it nicely =)
Customize instrument cluster: On my BMW that button is controlling the HUD and not that instrument cluster.
Yup that menu button can be different depending on which BMW you have. If yours goes into the HUD then you may just have to use the BC button that's on the turn signal stock.
You could just say bmw take me home. That's one button.
That's true!
Digital key, no chance, why would you want this.
I personally use it because I have two cars and only want to carry one key on the key chain.
Not sure why he is so keen to 'show off' the crappy ring that he's always wearing.........he waves it around like it's a friggin Rolex!!!!!!
I’ll replace it and switch hands when you propose to me.
That’s what you pay attention to 😮
Very nice. But hide your fingers please!
I'll use lotion next time =)
It's a shame, the car cannot connect to my home wifi
Correct it's not capable of doing that.
hey don't forget to refuel ;)
Haha, enjoy pushing the limits =)
So using your phone as a key means if a thief steals your phone he can also steal your car??
Come on ! Don't be lazy , its a press of a button to open and lock your prized asset . With all the technology you are aiding the thieves no end. Get a aftermarket immobiliser, keeps key fob in a protective pouch or tin , disable comfort access , keep your car!
Chances are very un-likely, cars these days can be tracked via GPS, and would be quite foolish to steal a high tech vehicle like this one. I believe you can also set it so it requires a passcode but at that point might as well just grab the handle.
My I drive dont do that.
You may have a older one, or maybe the very very new one that just came out which is iDrive 8.5
You can just turn down the gear beside the AC nozz. That one is still mechanical.
it was a cost cutting mechanism because of covid supply chain shortages. people that rationalize it as "new and better" or say "just gotta get used to it" are dumb and getting played. sucks your M3 experience hasn't been great, but at least you aren't a brainless drone!
You talk toooo fast!!
Noted! =)
If he doesn't the video will go for an hour. Fast but clear is good👌 maybe 96% just a little slower 🤪
I don't think the speed is bad at all. I think that all the breathing gaps are cut out. Just never stops
Thanks, I hate it.
Lol! Reach out if you ever have any questions!
@mitchell what do you use/prefer instead?
Almost all of these are available in idrive 7
😂😂😂
Самое бесполезное видео
This is the most useless video I’ve seen so far regarding BMWs. You’ve showed all the mainstream features and nothing hidden or special. Nice click bait tho’.
Thanks for the feedback!
iDrive 8 Sucks!
Took me sometime getting use to.
