    More to the story than we are told, he was arrested by officers of the Crime Suppression Team and not immigration officers, he was probably already wanted in my opinion.

      I'd say you were absolutely correct, the police were waiting for him, and didn't want him to skip out.

    Bottom line; it’s simple; “do NOT overstay”. Why do people it is ok to overstay and pay the fine. Rules are rules and Thai immigration is not the boogeyman. Just stick to the rules

    Hi, back in July this year I had a 15-month overstay. I got a ticket, paid the 20k fine, and got a 3-year ban. The Immigration were good about it, they just smiled and said bye have a good flight lol But it was lucky I did not get caught as it would have been a lot worse.

    Great advice don’t overstay in Thailand. Three years ago, I did an accidentally overstay of two days. Thai immigration took it very serious. I paid my fine and I have made sure that I never overstay in the future.

    I had a friend leave a week ago. 89 day overstay. Just paid the fine at the airport and laid low during hit time here when he was an overstay. The officers told him he was lucky (obviously) that if it was one more day he would have been arrested.

    No excuse for 79-days. That is just flauting the rules. I was in rural Thailand years ago when my visa was due, and I was returning to Pattaya in two days, so I thought it was okay to wait. After being chastised by the IO, I paid my fines, and swore never to do it again.

    Follow the rules and obey the law and you will not have any problems. If you overstay, then you get everything you deserve

    Seems like there could be some data sharing going on between airlines and immigration since it wasn't even at immigration that he was apprehended, but in the departure lounge.

    Last Friday I was at a bank trying to get bank account for visa purposes.. after the required paperwork they called the local immigration to share passport info.. the customer service agent passed me the phone and I was notified that even though I came in through the bkk airport... I still... Even without a visa .. had to come in to this immigration office as soon as I get here from BKK... This happened in lampang... I was confused because I never heard of this in 5 years been coming here.. o well.. stuff changes daily and provincially

    Should I be reporting where I am staying in Thailand ? I yearly with my Thai wife for sometimes a month (visa exempt) or 60 days on a visa. We have a home and stay there as a base but take 3 to 5 day trips to places like Udon last week Centara and Bangkok this week.
    Should I report my home address each time I return home from a hotel stay?

    Could be an 79 day overstay OVER his 60 or 90 day visa , so meaning he was already max 169 day in the country.

    As you rhetorically asked, "Where is the line". As I'm pretty sure you could agree after a few years involved in Thai legislation, the answer in most cases will be: It is Thai-line😁

    Last night I was on a bus from Phuket to Bangkok. A man in front of me had been reading the Phuket Gazette. I read his newspaper and noticed that a foreigner had been arrested at the airport in Phuket. Yes, times are really bad and the authorities in Thailand are getting very particular now. I am now starting to read the headlines of the farang newspapers every day. Then I'll start a TH-cam channel, because it could be that tomorrow, Wednesday, a farang will be arrested at the airport in Udon Thani because he has done something wrong for reasons that are very difficult to understand. I think it's getting worse every day and we don't know what's still to come. We are lost, luckily I am a lawyer. I'm saving you all because I read the headlines in the farang papers every day.

    so he went to the airport, cleared immigration, and was waiting 4 his flight in the departure hall - meaning at the gate? or did this happen while trying to get his exit stamp?

    • @IntegrityLegalThailand
      @IntegrityLegalThailand  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I am not fully clear on that either. That said, the fact that this occurred at the airport is a big deal, I had never heard of this in the past (at least with regard to an under 90 day overstay). As noted in the video, I always viewed getting to the airport as akin to "touching base". Times are clearly changing.

      Perhaps he was unable to pay the fine for whatever reason (technical issues, lack of funds, etc. )

  • @michaelmmcintyre
    @michaelmmcintyre 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I’m not saying this is the reason. However, U.S. immigration law was often enforced at airports by INS, and likely still is by CBP, with varying degrees of veracity depending on overtime availability. An operation to intercept outbound violators would regularly occur during the Fall, in what I used to call “operation spend money” to expend available overtime pay before the end of the fiscal year. The other occurrences were as a show of force to add uncertainty in the minds of would be violators, like a DUI checkpoint on a Holiday weekend. Let’s hope these draconian measures don’t become the norm. If they do, I would hope the counterweight will be more precise and standardized regulations across the country that are easy to follow.
