Glad I rewatched this video to refresh my mind on all the engine upgrades they did. Soo many people running there mouths about how the euro5 regs make it bog and it's harder to mod and blah blah blah! They've done a great job not only upgrading the forks,brakes,wheels and tires, but giving it the full on Thruxton R engine specs and tune with new mufflers designed for it. I know I'm loving my '22 in Matte Storm Grey and have around 25 mods done on it already.
I think the update was spot on for a non-R version. I prefer the previous model paint options BUT the jet black is still the favorite by far. The updated front suspension, great choice. Had the same forks on a previous bike and they're fantastic. The brake upgrade is fantastic as well. Looking forward to picking one up here in the US!
I became a Triumph fan... I bought a Triumph Street Scrambler and was impressed... I am waiting a few months now before I will pull the trigger on a second Triumph... This Speed Twin in red and silver looks awesome.... Looks like the big brother of the Speed Twin... Awesome colors... I don't like the Jet Black color though.... A bad decision for this year was to eliminate the white and green color of the Triumph Scrambler... I think these two colored Triumphs look great... I will test drive the Speed Twin next and see what I missed out on... Thumbs up to Triumph for their commitment to their Bonneville series...also I will never buy a bike without heated grips... they should be standard at no extra cost...

Not a big enough upgrade on the current model to tempt me to upgrade mine, plus penny-pinching on heated grips and cruise control is disappointing. Now a Speed Twin RS, on the other hand…
Could not agree with you more. I may check my disappointment and buy one anyway, and maybe that’s Triumph’s strategy, but disappointment still quells the excitement.
Agree entirely, no reason at all this update could not have included the adjustable ohlins that the thruxton has. And really 21 years into the 22nd century it is beyond time all road bikes come out with cruise control.
No heated grips, no cruise, no quick shifter, piss poor rear shocks. No thanks. I was excited about this launch but it is a disappointment. I may have to look at the new BMW R1250R coming out. Yes it is more money but it has absolutely everything to include active suspension. I am bummed because I love the sound of that Triumph twin. But everything else is just okay.
Love my Street Twin, but I always look back and think I should’ve just bought the Speed Twin instead. Great first look vid, I’m sure they’ll sell well based on looks and performance alone.
@@jayteesgear Yeah, the Ironstone grey is beautiful. Lots of compliments everywhere I stop. I’m 5’10” so the low seat is perfect with the Triumph quilted bench seat; I can easily flat foot with a slight bend in my knees.
Great looking bike, lovely clocks and nice exhaust + sound but - that tank bag was obviously not well suited to the protruding fuel cap. Did you notice how the presentation avoided showing it in certain angles (specifically directly from the side). Also I think it's fair to suspect quite a limited range due to the small tank.
The tank range was one of my issues with the previous model which is why I asked the question about mpg vs. EU5. We shall see on the press launch in a few weeks' time. Don't think too much into the placement of the bike for the shot - I was there when the standard bike and the accessorised bike were being shuffled around to get the best angle considering the room and camera angles, there was no ulterior motive about the tank bag placement. Still, you raise you do raise a good point...

Personally I like the standard spin on tank cap. The Monza style is a cheap two part system. I like the rear fender style but the dongle they put on for plate looks goofy. The red tank is definitely the best. Probably gonna see many similars on the road. I guess gray is cool, kinda matching the fenders. Definitely a good looking bike.
@@unenthusiast I know many people like the look of sporty tires. And (in Germany at least) many riders tend more towards sporty tires where with a great sport touring tire they would be better off. So I understand why brands do put more sporty then practial tires on their bikes. But here with the Racetec RR its almost 2 levels above "best match" for the Speed Twin. This is no race bike for sure. Great (and sporty) road handling is possible with other tires. First all the great sport tourers like Conti Road Attack 3, Michelin Road 5, Metzler Roadtec SE etc. -- if Triumph wanted to be sportier than that, ok Michelin Power 5, Metzler M9 RR, Pirelli Rosso III or IV - but NOT above that. WHYYY do they do that? The Racetec tire is not even cheap.
Doesn't seem much better. Plastic end-caps on the new exhaust look cheap, the Marzocchi are decent but the original suspension really isn't that bad to begin with and neither are the brakes, and the tank paint is a strict downgrade compared to the hand-painted lines and colours of the 'first generation'. The new tyres are arguably over-kill for this ride, and a tiny 3PS bump is less than you'd get from a cheap and easy intake/exhaust upgrade on the original. Add in Euro 5 making customization much harder, and I don't see this as offering enough to someone with a current Speed Twin nor any other Bonneville purchased in the last few years. Disappointing, really.
Reading reviews over the past months, I take note that T-Snobs are commenting they want this one + that one and they will also put these in with "their collections." I, as a former teacher have only been able to afford one at a time (starting with a 1955 Cushman Eagle - 5 hp, 2 spd, drum brakes). Alas, poor Nobigbucks, ...
Lovely bike..more than adequate 'street' performance and fantastic aesthetics. No need for all the electro-nannies on this type of ride, as many will no doubt squawk about (waaa...no heated grips...waah, no cruise control....waaah, no IMU...lol.). It's a very good looking and very good performing 'sporty' STREET motorcycle. Cool.
Ooh. I’ve got a ‘20 Speed Twin and thought it would look better with USD forks but I have to say otherwise seeing this. Also the exhausts don’t look as nice as the stockers on the previous model. All personal views of course.

Nice looking machine with some nice upgrades but for heaven's sake what is it with Triumph and their grey and black monotone colour options. Ok the red is nice but you can barely see the Triumph logo on the tank. It should be in black so it stands out. Triumph are coming in for a lot of flak for their poor colour options lately and rightly so. I used to work in the paint spraying industry and the extra money for certain colours is a joke. All manufacturers are guilty of this and it needs to stop.Still a lovely bike but the marketing people are not quite on the button.
I bought a 2019 Speed Twin Classic™ new. How stupid could I have been? This one FINALLY has race tires, cheap-ass usd forks, a smog pump, weighs as much as a Thruxton R, gets worse mileage, AND has 3 cats for 3bhp MO POWAH BABY! I don't think I can bear the shame of riding my cat-deleted Shorty-muffed tuned Thruxton R wheels having old pile of Speed Twin Classic™ crap anymore. I do like the wheels on this one. Brakes look the business too. Thank goodness the Buck Rogers covers are black.
The colors are really bad, especially the neon green/yellow stripe on the grey option. Looks extremely weird on a classic bike imo. A metallic brown/bronze option would be very nice, it would flow nicely with the brown seat as an option. Edit: also the non led headlight is a big downside to me, why would you make everything in led but the headlight? I think it's time in 2021 to make led as standard
There seems to be some real confusion in the model year of this bike and others in the Bonneville lineup. What is being released in 2021 is the model year 2022. There are so many videos out there saying this is a 2021 Speed Twin. No it's not... it's the 2022 Speed Twin with the Euro 5 updates. I wonder how many dealers out there with 2021 Speed Twins still in stock were thrilled to hear this news. I was one of those who nearly purchased one, think it was the update 2022 year model... until I looked at it very closely. The new 2021's still in stock are only going for about $300 less than the new 2022 year model... but without any of the new upgrades which make it a completely different ride. Shame on Triumph for allowing this veiled deception. Speaking of the new release in 2021 without making it clear that it is the 2022 model. I see what you're doing... Carole Nash was the only one out there, that I saw, that made it clear that he was reviewing a 2022 model Speed Twin. Gordon
I looked at Carole Nash's video review again. And even he refers to, "... for the year 2021..."... even though the TH-cam video title refers to the 2022 model year. This may be an inadvertent mistake. But like most spooks will tell you... there are no inadvertantly mistakes and coincidences. Everything tends to be promoted in a certain way and done on purpose for a specific reason... leaving nothing by chance. There is still very little availability of the new 2022 Speed Twin in the US... around 22 bikes arrived so far. That means you have all these 2021 models still on the floor with supply chain and port slow down issues everywhere. So they pump the new model with limited availability while referring to it as the new bike for 2021. Yes, released for 2021, as the 2022 model, but not at all the same bike as the 2021 model released in 2020. So how many people will go out and buy a 2021 model thinking they are getting the new 2022 model? Like I said, I almost did by mistake. And I have been into bike riding since 2000. If the dealers would discount the 2021 models enough, they will clear them out. I guess they won't be doing that with the general shortages going on. So price wise, it looks like you are buying the latest model at the same price point. You have to look closely at the new spokes on the new wheels as well as the new inverted forks and Brembo monobloc brakes. Otherwise you will miss the differences in a small image on a smart phone. I like the way Yamaha promotes their Tracer 9 model. They change the name slightly every year so that there is never any confusion or inadvertent deception. Idiots still ask the question, "Why does Yamaha keep changing their Tracer 900/9 model description every year?" The reason is to avoid this kind of confusion. But, boy, does it not help out their dealers sell the old models. The unsuspecting buyer won't likely realize the mix-up for around six months until they bump into someone who ended up getting what they thought they purchased. What can they do? They must trade it in on the newer model and take the hit. Gordon
Ok... I did some deeper digging. Having scanned through most of new Triumph Speed Twins available in the US online, I now see that some of the later 2021 models are actually the new 2022 model. In other words, Triumph did a model change mid year in 2021. So the early part of 2021 model year was based upon the old 2020 model and recently they started shipping the remaining 2021 models in the newer 2022 configuration... but now calling it the 2021 model. I can understand production reasons and considerations for doing this. What makes this confusing is that I can't find any indication of this midyear model disruption being announced by Triumph or anyone else. Why is that? Why keep it such a secret? My earlier comments may apply here... Gord
Non adjustable forks, no cruise control, no quick shifter, no heated grips, tyre choice is a bit puzzling, I would have imagined sportecs for the intended use and customers. Next to the new Monster, Duke 890R, etc it's a tough sell.

As a transportation device, yes, now even w/o squeeky brakes.. yay!!! Still w messy suspension, and honestly if i got to "invest" 2 grand in Thruxton RS ones*just to make it proper running* it is way overpriced. It hurts to say but the new Suzuki GSXS1000 is the way better bike, not just for ones bucks. ;)
I don't know why this is so popular. I can't really get my head round it. I had a bandit 12 and was looking for something less manic. I had a go on the old speed twin and found it more manic than the bandit! I want a retro for the retro experience. Not a supernaked in a mildly retro suit. It's a bit like buying a tweed running outfit with hobnail trainers....
Great bike. Like the upgrades, well worth the extra £300. Won't be commuting to work on this at 6 in the morning in the middle of winter so no need for heated grips. They're overrated anyway.

@@sgmotorcycles I agree, although I do wonder if there is a mistake on the Triumph website and the black one is actually 11k. That would follow other models. When a journo said there was £500 pound increase in price, he was corrected and told no it was £300 up on the old model. There's still confusion though and that's never a good thing.
Triumph failed to out cruise control on it again 🤣🤦🏼. Triumph actually suck these days. 1200cc and only 100ps ...🤷, It is 2021 not 1990 this bike should be laying down 110hp standard. No cruise control, 10hp below the competition, absolutely non adjustable forks😂 I have to laugh otherwise I would cry. Losing faith in Triumph one bad call after another these days.

I quite fancy one of these to go with my Z900RS. Problem is I also quite fancy an R Nine T. And a V7. And a CB1100 RS. And a Svartpilen.

Indeed... and considering its sales success in the UK vs. the rest of the world, you'd have thought heated grips would have been a sensible option.

Agreed, an RS or TFC would be worth a look. But this is not worth it. I'll keep mine.

Great it has Rain-Mode - when you switch it on, does it automatically change the Racetec RR tires to somethings suitable for rain? LOL

Everything I was waiting for in terms of upgrades. I thought it always needed an RS Version....this is pretty much it! Might be time to trade up!

Sadly another triumph I cannot buy simply because no one sells GP shift kits. When will manufacturers learn?

I looked at Carole Nash's video review again. And even he refers to, "... for the year 2021..."... even though the TH-cam video title refers to the 2022 model year.
This may be an inadvertent mistake. But like most spooks will tell you... there are no inadvertantly mistakes and coincidences. Everything tends to be promoted in a certain way and done on purpose for a specific reason... leaving nothing by chance.
There is still very little availability of the new 2022 Speed Twin in the US... around 22 bikes arrived so far.
That means you have all these 2021 models still on the floor with supply chain and port slow down issues everywhere.
So they pump the new model with limited availability while referring to it as the new bike for 2021. Yes, released for 2021, as the 2022 model, but not at all the same bike as the 2021 model released in 2020.
So how many people will go out and buy a 2021 model thinking they are getting the new 2022 model? Like I said, I almost did by mistake. And I have been into bike riding since 2000.
If the dealers would discount the 2021 models enough, they will clear them out. I guess they won't be doing that with the general shortages going on. So price wise, it looks like you are buying the latest model at the same price point.
You have to look closely at the new spokes on the new wheels as well as the new inverted forks and Brembo monobloc brakes. Otherwise you will miss the differences in a small image on a smart phone.
I like the way Yamaha promotes their Tracer 9 model. They change the name slightly every year so that there is never any confusion or inadvertent deception.
Idiots still ask the question, "Why does Yamaha keep changing their Tracer 900/9 model description every year?"
The reason is to avoid this kind of confusion. But, boy, does it not help out their dealers sell the old models. The unsuspecting buyer won't likely realize the mix-up for around six months until they bump into someone who ended up getting what they thought they purchased.
What can they do? They must trade it in on the newer model and take the hit.

Ok... I did some deeper digging. Having scanned through most of new Triumph Speed Twins available in the US online, I now see that some of the later 2021 models are actually the new 2022 model.
In other words, Triumph did a model change mid year in 2021. So the early part of 2021 model year was based upon the old 2020 model and recently they started shipping the remaining 2021 models in the newer 2022 configuration... but now calling it the 2021 model. I can understand production reasons and considerations for doing this.
What makes this confusing is that I can't find any indication of this midyear model disruption being announced by Triumph or anyone else. Why is that? Why keep it such a secret? My earlier comments may apply here...

It's a better bike but the last version looked way better
Non adjustable forks, no cruise control, no quick shifter, no heated grips, tyre choice is a bit puzzling, I would have imagined sportecs for the intended use and customers. Next to the new Monster, Duke 890R, etc it's a tough sell.

Yeah very strange. Triumph is full on Ducati, aprillia, ktm now. A premium brand that sells expensive “heritage” and makes you pay for everything else
This bikes tail section isn’t the best. Looks a bit off.
Triumph say they listen to feedback from customers, Bla Bla Bla, none ajustable forks, same cheap rear shocks, wtf with the race tires on a cruising bike, no cruise control option, what a missed opportunity.
previous version didn't have it either... accountants, so "progressive" :) carbs and kickstarter m8es, and u could sell it for half of the price ;))

As a transportation device, yes, now even w/o squeeky brakes.. yay!!! Still w messy suspension, and honestly if i got to "invest" 2 grand in Thruxton RS ones*just to make it proper running* it is way overpriced.
It hurts to say but the new Suzuki GSXS1000 is the way better bike, not just for ones bucks. ;)
I don't know why this is so popular. I can't really get my head round it. I had a bandit 12 and was looking for something less manic. I had a go on the old speed twin and found it more manic than the bandit! I want a retro for the retro experience. Not a supernaked in a mildly retro suit. It's a bit like buying a tweed running outfit with hobnail trainers....
Great bike. Like the upgrades, well worth the extra £300. Won't be commuting to work on this at 6 in the morning in the middle of winter so no need for heated grips. They're overrated anyway.

@@trevorphillips3055 yeah I’d rather they were just honest and said the bike costs 11,200, instead of 11,000 with paint as an extra. Who are they trying to fool?
@@sgmotorcycles I agree, although I do wonder if there is a mistake on the Triumph website and the black one is actually 11k. That would follow other models. When a journo said there was £500 pound increase in price, he was corrected and told no it was £300 up on the old model. There's still confusion though and that's never a good thing.
Triumph failed to out cruise control on it again 🤣🤦🏼. Triumph actually suck these days. 1200cc and only 100ps ...🤷, It is 2021 not 1990 this bike should be laying down 110hp standard. No cruise control, 10hp below the competition, absolutely non adjustable forks😂 I have to laugh otherwise I would cry. Losing faith in Triumph one bad call after another these days.
I'll keep my original thanks. Not worth the upgrade.
