Thoroughly enjoyed that - as an owner of the original Speed Twin (which I love) I can't wait to have a go on one of these newer models soon and do a direct comparison. Very envious of your sunshine today!!! All the best - Andy
@@RocketMan_Moto Yes those are two excellent mods I must say....the dials look great on the bike and just tone the bling down a bit...chuffed you've seen my vids!
Agreed. Really not a fan of the stock dials. Too fussy. Thanks for all your hard work over the years, I totally get why you’ve decided to slow down a bit. Running a TH-cam channel is good fun, but it can be draining😉
I have just ordered this bike. Need to wait until March '22 for getting it delivered. Thank you for this excellent and very personal first-few-days review. Makes my waiting time even tougher. 😊👍
Thanks, Peter. I know the feeling, but it’s definitely worth the wait. I didn’t want to be too gushing in the first impressions video, but it’s easily the most exciting bike I’ve ever owned. I hope the many videos I have in the pipeline will make the wait a bit more bearable😊
Despite of the bike which is been always a delight to eye and a superstar in its own way i'm just here to admire your extraordinary quality presentation. Great choice by the way.. Congrats 🎊
Fantastic video absolutely spot on what you said about the new speed twin I have a triumph speed twin and have tested the new speed twin and noticed a difference straight away not a massive difference but certainly a difference stay safe looking forward to more videos 🇬🇧👍
Thanks, Richard. I agree the difference is not massive, but definitely noticeable. I would be happy with either, tbh, they are really excellent bikes. Sleepers, just my style! Kind of kicking myself for not getting one sooner :)
Very nice, congratulations. Looking forward to upcoming stories regarding tuning, ehm, tailorizing that bike to suit your needs. Wish you many happy miles and tons of fun with the new baby.
I am currently thinking of buying either a new model or the old version. Motorrad Magazine has tested the old one two years ago and recently the new one and there was quite a difference in engine performance. The figures show that at 3000rpm the new model has about 15Nm less torque than the old model ! Max Torque: 114Nm at 3400rpm (old) vs 108Nm at 4300rpm (new) Max Power: 98hp at 6700rpm (old) vs 100hp at 7200rpm (new) Acceleration from 0-100km/h: 3,4sec (old) 3,7sec (new) Acceleration from 60-100km/h in 6th gear: 3,4 sec (old) 3,9sec (new) Fuel consumption on country lanes: 4,2l/100km (old) 4,6l/100km (new) Quieter exhaust on the new one: 93dB vs 96dB for the old one at idle However, chassis- and brake-wise the new model scored more points than the old one. Difficult decision.
I agree and you can feel the difference in mid-range torque. However, imo the better brakes and suspension more than compensate for this, and you will find the new model easier to sell than the first generation :)
very nice practical eview...loved the original Speed Twin, but opted for the Scrambler 1200XC (which I love), but seriously want this upgraded version of the Speed Twin! Looking forward to the accessories video.
Congrats to your new bike. As always a nice review, even it is kind of a for a first impression, it is more substantial than so many others. Thank you and have fun.
Good looking bike, looking forward to see the added tweaks ! The reference to the E39 M5 V8 resonates and as eux-owner I can almost feel as if I sat on your new bike… 3rd gear from 20 to 100 mph almost like an automatic gearbox with so much torque
A beautiful bike with performance to match. Agree about those yellow highlights on cars and bikes these days. It put me off buying last years black Street Triple RS.
Great video, I bought a 2021 speed twin, loving the bike so far. I agree with you about the changes they made from the older model were spot on, Triumph really nailed it with this bike. Looking forward for the new video regarding the mods, especially license plate holder.
Thanks, Luis. As you may have seen on the video, I've already made quite a few modifications, including the tail tidy and carbon rear mudguard (I have the front one, too, but it's not compatible with the new Speed Twin). I will be doing a separate video on all the changes soon. Enjoy your Speed Twin, it's a fabulous machine :)
I have a 2020 Speed Twin. I fitted the throttle spacers (good move) and the TEC fuel booster, which also helped with the fuelling. I don’t know if that’s suitable for the 2021 version. I love the bike. My only downside is that I find it heavy on the wrists. Maybe my riding style? My other bikes a BMW R1250GS, which is armchair comfortable by comparison.
I can't say I find the ST uncomfortable so far, although obviously the GS is on a different level. I will give the spacers a try when they arrive from the US. Ordered them a month ago, but they're probably stuck in Portuguese customs :(
I’ve been looking forward to this review since you first hinted at it. Like you I own a Trident and am sorely tempted by the Speed Twin - you may just have tipped me over… I’ll see how you get on with it over the winter before I take the plunge.
Oops, here I go again spending other people’s money😬 I like to think I’m objective, but honestly - if you can afford it - don’t think twice. The Speed Twin goes even better than it looks and is a significant step up from the Trident. I missed the Trident when I sold it, but I don’t at all now.
Great video. Best of luck with the new ride!👍🏻 I went to a Triumph demo last weekend. Rode the Trident first. Super fun and handled well but felt like I needed more power. Then tested your new bike. Came back grinning ear to ear. Handles like a dream, plenty of power (as you mention), and looks beautiful. Lastly, I did demo the new Speed Triple RS but felt like it was WAY more power than I could possibly need on the road. Sounds LOVELY. But would certainly taunt me to do naughty things lol. I do believe a new Speed Twin will be in my garage this spring. 😎 Looking forward to seeing your next update on your new steed. Cheers!
Thank you! I had a Street Triple RS about 4 years ago, but sold it because I was tired of riding everywhere at 200mph. It was also very peaky and needed its neck wringing to extract the power. The ST is kind of the opposite - power available all the time. I tried a friend's Trident yesterday and couldn't get over how feeble it now feels ;)
Congratulations RM! Finally here, it seems so long when you are waiting for a bike. Guess I guessed correctly quite a while back 😊 on what you would be getting. I too feel it’s the perfect all rounder. Enjoy the new baby and keep the content flowing. Cheers
Very nice choice! I admire all the subtle British bike indicators, ie.. the tank knee pads are great looking. I like the your colors choice as well. Sounds like you’re going to be riding this one for a while! Ride safe my friend. (Grom = Cardboard egg carton……….. I laughed out loud at that one).
Helpful review, thank you-I has one of the first speed twins early 2019-sold in 2020 as I wasn’t riding it enough and have regretted that ever since! The 2022 one looks very good. They still haven’t sorted out that rear mudguard though.. not a problem for you in Portugal, but here in Scotland, the only way not to get covered in muck is to take the current and final wife out with me :-)
Never ridden the Speed Twin myself but I really like its modern retro looks and I'm sure I'd appreciate the character of its engine being a bit of a twin cylinder fan in all its guises. One other bike I would say is a direct competitor is the BMW R9T. I really enjoyed test riding that with a grin from ear to ear the whole time. I still keep looking at them on the used market as they're really just a bike you ride for the fun of riding and only useful as a second bike. Love to know if you considered one and how it might compare to the Speed Twin.
Thanks, Steve. I did consider a 9T and even test rode one briefly. It was nice, but my opinion was tainted by the bad experience I had with the BMW F900XR I bought 18 months ago. The customer service I received from BMW at the time was very poor, and that has put me off their bikes for a while, I'm afraid. Ride safe :)
@@RocketMan_Moto Dealer service can certainly have a big impact on any purchase decision. Luckily my local BMW dealership is very fair and a pleasure to deal with. The franchise also deal with Triumph at their other branches so win win for me.
Excellent review. I love the looks of the Speed Twin and was thinking about buying one. But I realised during the test ride on the previous model that with my 1.88m the bike felt to small and nimble for me. I went for the Scrambler 1200XE instead.
Thank you, Marcel. I get what you mean - the only bikes that feel really big enough for me when riding are full-size adventure bikes, but I just don't like having to lug them around in the garage. The Scrambler would be a great compromise, but the position of the exhaust might be an issue in hot Portugal. Enjoy :)
Love your new bike, I've always wanted to try one of the new Ttiumph's but here in our state there is only one dealership and its an hour and a half drive one way. Also Aprillia and KTM are just bikes only seen in magazines. I know there on the two coasts but those two are fantasy bikes in the mid west.
Absolutely beautiful bike! Not many options for Triumph here in Tulsa Oklahoma. There is a triumph dealer in OKC but that’s a couple of hours away and there are two Harley Davidson dealerships right here in Tulsa. So I ride a Harley. 🤷🏻♂️ I just started riding last October though and can’t imagine that I won’t try out a Triumph at some point. They are just amazing looking machines, especially the Bonnevilles. Beautiful bikes. Honestly, now that I’ve been riding a while and know more about what I like and don’t, the Triumph Bonnevilles really do it for me.
Thank you. The Speed Twin is definitely a massive step up from both the Trident I owned previously and the T120 I rode a couple of weeks ago. Pity you don't have a dealer nearby - I got lucky, because Triumph Portugal opened a new dealership here in the Algarve just a couple of months before we moved :)
Awesome review as always , must admit am a bit envious of the bike it's a beauty hopefully will own one some days, Having a blast on my trident though, enjoy your new bike looking forward for your new videos on the bike cheers 🥂
Thank you😊 The Trident is a great ‘little’ bike, but a number of people, like you, have commented that they’re thinking of upgrading to the Speed Twin.
Me too. If you look closely, you can see the rear CF guard is already on, but the front one they sent isn't compatible with the new bike, so it's going to have to wait a while.
A great review of a lovely bike but I think it’s most unfair that you have to fit a throttle spacer kit to alleviate the “jerkiness” of the fuelling system. What was wrong with the old style throttle cable ? at least that could be adjusted easily in order to alleviate any excess play. I hope you enjoy your new bike and look forward to further updates.
@@user-rf9me7xm1w Completely agree, especially as the tiny plastic spacer costs around €40 with postage. I'm going out filming again tomorrow, so updates will be along soon :)
Good bike, but I'd rather have the Scrambler version. More leg room, more ground clearance, longer travel suspension. In fact, I am interested in one in Thailand. However I have read of electrical gremlins. I too love torque. I preferred the gaitered forks on the old Speed Twin, but just to look at. Good choice of bike on your part. Good to see you back.
Congrats on the new bike, excellent choice, absolutely gorgeous! Love Triumph, I'm definitely buying one next year, got a couple of choices 🙂 As always, love your reviews, look forward to your in depth one where you also mentioned talking about the mods! Cheers from "chilly" Austria! ✌🏼
Another great review. I like the additional performance and “edge” of the new Speed Twin, but my pocketbook says I should look closer at the T100. I like my old T100 but wish it had about 30 more horsepower, better brakes, a 270 degree crank and less weight. Used bike market, here I come to get the best compromise.
Thanks, Jeffrey. You're right: no-one NEEDS the extra power of the Speed Twin, and the T100 is perfectly adequate. But do you want to settle for adequate..? Sorry, spending other people's money again... Ride safe :)
Very nice bike, well done 👍 I never tried one but I just spoke to someone I know who’s actually bought the exact same bike and already gave it back to the dealer after two weeks and loosing $2k because he couldn’t handle that huge amount of heat from the engine. Hopefully you are ok with that. Enjoy your new bike.
Glad to hear you are 6'2". I'm 6' even and always worry that I'll look like a bear on a tricycle on this bike. I own 2022 Street Twin and I love it, but highway performance is lacking. I also don't like the cheap plastic single clock. Thanks for a great review.
Thanks for watching! The Speed Twin is on the small side for me, but I don't mind for short-ish trips (I have a 2023 Honda Transalp for longer runs). Legs are a bent, but not really cramped. The power difference with the Street Twin is considerable ;)
Always enjoy your reviews, to include the adult diction and tone! 🤓👍 I still love my Trident (the white looks brilliant, tbf) but will be trading it in April for the Tiger 660, which I think will combine nearly all the elements for “my” riding. Cheers, and keep up the good work! 🙏
I get that, although I can’t help thinking that if Triumph had brought out the Tiger first, everyone would be getting very excited about a new sporty version (Trident)😊
Spot on review as I have taken one out on a test ride with the view to part ex my speed triple. However if I thought I rode the speed triple fast I I rode the speed twin like a loon because of the torque. Beware it’s Satan in disguise.
What a gorgeous motorcycle. Congratulations. The car analogy of a V8 M5 BMW is interesting. Being an American, I would apply the V8 analogy to a modern 5.0 Ford Mustang. 😃
Thanks 🙏 great first owner review and I am up in the air atm between buying a Bonneville or this speed twin! 🤔 ridden all the Bonnevilles and just need to get my hands on the twin now before emptying my pockets
Thank you! Well, having ridden the identically priced (in Portugal) T120, I have to say that for me it is a no-brainer. The ST is nimbler (17" wheel) and a LOT faster than the T120, and imho it also looks nicer. The Bonnevilles are nice, and if there were a bigger price difference between the ST, then sure, think about it, but as things stand I can't think of a single reason to go for the 'standard' Bonnevilles :)
Had mine for a week now, the V8 comparison is spot on and exactly what I was thinking on my first ride :) I test rode this back to back with a Thruxton RS, and thought the new exhaust on the speed twin sounded better; it's surprisingly loud for a stock exhaust (and euro 5 compliant!), I love it. Now just wish I could get some fuel!
Haha, yes I've been hearing about the logistics issues and panic buying in the UK. Hopefully it will blow over in a few days and you'll be able to enjoy your V8 :)
I had the same poor fueling issue on my Bobber. Its the mapping unfortunately where they run them quite lean for emissions. I eventually mapped it with TuneEcu and a DNK map and it's a completely different bike now.
I need to look into that. Thanks, Steve. I will wait and see if the throttle spacers make a difference and then look at the remap solution. Ride safe :)
Only thing I would change are those rear shocks, they look like they were taken from a small 80's dirt bike. Your bike is a real looker. Many safe miles to you.
I'll join in and say congrats! Less than a month ago I bought the same bike in the same color here in the States. I'll be subscribing so I can follow along with you on your journey and see what kind of changes you do. I have the throttle spacers on order as well. Vance and Hines pipes are on my list. I've been told that with the new Euro5 regulations, the ECU is locked supposedly so we can't do any tunes or booster plugs for that choppy throttle (it annoys me more than I care to admit). Hopefully there's a way around that. Other than a few niggles, this is a fantastic bike! I'd recommend checking out Adam Croll's channel as well of course MissendenFlyer, they have a lot of mod content on the Speed Twin.
Thanks! Yes, definitely the best bike I've owned so far. It puts a smile on my face every time I ride it and, for me, that's what motorcycling is all about. I have seen Adam and TMF's videos; they were very helpful in deciding which mods to prioritise. Ride safe :)
I just did the exact same swap for the same reasons. I went from Iconic silver Trident to Matte Storm Gray Speed Twin. I enjoyed the Trident but damn this Speed Twin is sooo good.
RocketMan, I have been waiting for a review on the 2022 SpeedTwin, Thanks for your great job and explanation. I had my deposit on the new 2022 SpeedTwin for the very reasons you did, the inverted front forks, radial mounted Brembo front brakes etc. However I still think that it needs adjustments front and back for the suspension and at least a simple cruise control like the SpeedMaster. I found a low mileage, (1,235 miles) 2019 SpeedTwin for a considerable savings over the new 2021 price. I installed a power plug and an X-Pipe, I can't say for certain but I think it is now making 100+ HP. I also put the classic faces on the speedo & Tach. This is a fourth bike for me, I find it brings out the hooligan in me more than any other of my bikes. Trophy SE, BMW R1150RT, and a 1966 Classic Bonneville. It is defiantly a hoot to ride. Be interested to see how you get on with your SpeedTwin. Cheers!
Both versions are fantastic machines, so you’ve done well to find a low-mileage example. I personally don’t have the use for a cruise control and I’ve already swapped out the rear shocks. Enjoy your bike😊
Agree with your thoughts about the first gen Speed twin. The Thruxton was certainly fitted with higher spec parts so that that would have been my choice at the time. I haven’t ridden either due to Covid so I must rectify that.
Excellent video, thank you for putting it all together! Seriously considering this as my next bike. But that hi-vis yellow strip and getting rid of it, will be the first modification I will make. What the hell was the design department thinking ... putting a hi-vis yellow stripe on modern classic style bike? Yuck!
Completely agree. Although I immediately covered my stripe up with some aluminium vinyl I was never really happy with the overall look, so 6 months ago had the whole bike repainted: th-cam.com/video/tfPiXqH_Bus/w-d-xo.html The Speed Twin is definitely the best bike I've ever owned; much more fun than it looks. More Thruxton than T120 :)
@@RocketMan_Moto The new paint job brings the entire street twin to another level and the "blue" is mesmerizing. I would say that the wheel rims also need re-spraying, to tie it all together.
Cracking review love your channel Man 👊 I had a good test ride on this bike and wished I hadn't🙄 what a bit of kit this bike is. Would love to all this bike to my Sportster one day 😍 Amazing engine, handling and looks! You sound exactly like Neil Spalding😉 great stuff 💪👊
That is truly a beautiful bike early I ride a 21 standard or 9T and I’m looking for a a brother or my second bike to keep in the stable your conclusion on this bike we’ll probably bring me to the triumph dealer real soon hey thanks for all the good info right safe keep it up
Thanks, Michael. I have done a few videos on my Speed Twin, including a 6-month review recently, so you may like to see those. I am very happy with the bike and am just getting a custom paint job finished. Reveal hopefully next week :)
Yo nice bike would like to see more riding videos and updates of your speed twin partner here in the US Cleveland Ohio thinking about purchasing it this June
I am thinking about doing a 6-month review, but not much has changed since my first videos back in the autumn, apart from a couple of carbon fibre panels. Otherwise, it's still the best bike I've ever owned and unless Triumph come out with a Speed Twin Turbo, I won't be changing any time soon :)
I currently have a 2016 Thruxton and thought about getting some throttle spacers as well but have I got used to the bike I feel like the fueling is amazing and I didn't need to change anything. I am considering selling the Thruxton for a speed twin as I am using it as a commuter/touring motorcycle and the speed twin seems better suited for that with all the same torque I love about my Thruxton.
I have the trident same color scheme as your previous bike. And to be honest when I saw the new speed twin I said that I want this to be my second bike. I will enjoy the trident for now which is an awesome bike. Especially for Athens Greece where the traffic is insane. And the trident is light and nimble for that. But the speed is just awesome. Keep us posted on cost of ownership and mileage please. Cheers
Thank you! Yes, the Trident is definitely the bike of choice in traffic, but there's not so much of that down here, and the Speed Twin definitely has the edge when the roads are open and relatively car free. Plenty more videos in the pipeline on CoO, must-have mods, etc :)
Excellent review as always, with reasonable camera work. But I have to say, I find the lack of external sound really off-putting. I don't need to be told what a bike sounds like, I need to hear it. Like I do in every other bike review I watch. Motobob, Missenden Flyer,...there are so many excellent reviewers out there, and the environmental sound is so engaging.
Terrific bike, I think "beefy" (13.21) sums it up well. Bike feel in car form, interesting. I'd put my vfr1200 on a par with my old Saab Turbo's, quirky comfy, well built and a surprising rate of effortless performance. Look forward to future reports.
I test rode this bike and was impressed. However, I preferred the mt09 engine. Overall, i think it is a great choice but wonder if a z900rs is a better choice. The speed twin engine likes to stay low in the revs and i am too used to sportier engines with a broader band.
I get that completely, but I am the opposite: I don't like revving an engine and so appreciate never really needing to go above about 4500rpm. The MT09 has a great engine, but it looks a bit weird, at least the latest version. I'm too old for blue wheels, lol. Ride safe :)
@@RocketMan_Moto they all look weird. I had the previous version with the yellow hi Viz color scheme and felt the same way. Now I ride a gsxs1000 but love round headlights and classic style bikes. The speed twin certainly is a potential second bike.
• Great vid RM. Could you please tell me the make/model of your flyscreen, as I love how discreet is looks compared to others I'm pondering? Btw the throttle spacer kit is an absolute "must", but be careful not to push the spacers on too tight, as they could snap.
Thanks for the heads-up re the spacers. I will be careful when I fit them (they still haven't turned up from the US). This is the screen: www.rizoma.com/en/cf011.html Expensive, but well made in brushed aluminium and, as you say, nice & discreet :)
Had a feeling you wouldn't keep the Trident, Good bike but little lacking for experienced guy's. The New speed definitely looks better than previous one. Congrats mate and have fun.
Really a joy to look at, it must be thrilling to have all that torque on the twist of the whist and more importantly throughout the rev-range. I agree with what you said regarding the clocks, analog dials are really good for speed and revs, but personally I prefer Kawasaki's approach of sticking a small digital screen between the two analog dials. Cheers
do you have part number for the rizoma fly screen, i see one on ebay that said 16-20 year model, have asked if it will fit waiting for a reply, $500 au dollars, what a joke, get my bike next tuesday same colour as yours, love it, i like that greene colour on the tank, as they say each for there own, wheels will get painted gold, seat and bar grips in camel brown, have the leather sitting there waiting, after doing my little super cub, looks cool, cant wait to start on the triumph,
Good objective review. Like Andy (TMF), I own the original version and love it. The analogy of the motor being a V8 is spot on. The torque just puts a huge grin on my face every time I ride it. Who knew 96bhp could be so good? The only thing that puts me off the new one is the paint job on the tank. The original looks classier to my mind. I would have liked some more sophisticated shocks too !
I've already replaced the shocks with some YSS. I found I could flex the top cap on the stock shocks between my fingers, so they had to go. I agree about the paint schemes, I really liked the 'old' grey, but the new matte grey has grown on me and I even find myself (almost) liking the hi-vis yellow stripe :)
@@RocketMan_Moto a good move I would guess. With the limited range of movement on the swing arm I don't think it's necessary to go the whole hog with Ohlins. Just benefit from something a bit more sophisticated than the stock setup.
The Ducati throttle spacers help with the snatchy throttle just off idle, but don't eliminate it altogether, so I feather the clutch when necessary. Be interesting to try switching off the traction control as somebody suggested. If I'm in heavy traffic in town, I tend to switch to road mode, then change back to sport mode when things open up. P
Hi man, I'm trying to decide if the Speed Twin that I ordered recently (not picked up yet) was the correct decision (decided against the more comfortable and laid back T120 because the ST seemed more fun and to have a higher grin factor because of the crazy torque). Kinda doubting that decision right now after what you said at 5:36, that the availability of torque doesn't seem any different to the T120 that you rode before getting the ST, although the ST is definitely faster. Does that mean that high power engine of the ST basically feels the same as the T120's unless you go on the highway and get to higher speeds with it (which isn't really that enjoyable on especially a naked bike anyway)? I know you love the ST, but I'm curious if I misunderstood this point? Thanks for reading and cheers :)
Imho, you made the right choice. Have you seen my review of the T120: th-cam.com/video/NeOBVXb6zW8/w-d-xo.html ? The Speed Twin is way, way more fun to ride and all you'd have to do to turn it into the T120 is twist the throttle a little less... except you won't because the ST is so enjoyable :) Yes, the T120's max. torque arrives earlier, but it's a fair bit down on the ST's. Many owners upgrade from the T100 or T120 to the Speed Twin, but I've never heard of anyone doing the reverse.
@@RocketMan_Moto Thanks a lot for the reply man! Really appreciate it! This makes me feel better about my choice. Can't wait to finally ride, I'm having my driving exam (not sure what it's called in English) on wednesday, if I pass I'll pick up the Speed Twin on saturday (perhaps leaving it in rain mode though for a start ha ha ha). Btw. very nice paint job on yours with the BMW black. I'll never understand what Triumph are thinking with designs in terms of color, borderline distasteful in some cases ha ha.
Glad you finally got the new bike, thought it would be the speed twin ! Looks very nice and like you say a step up from the Trident in performance ,quality and price ! I felt the same when I chopped the Trident in for my Ftr 1200 , but I still think Trident does it all for such a good price if I could have kept her as well I would of. Look forward to seeing what mods you do in future👍
Thanks, David. Completely agree: the Trident is a remarkably good bike for the price, but it can't really hold a candle to a 1200 (Indian or Triumph). Enjoy your new ride, I'm sure you will :)
Absolutely LOVE it! That colour is awesome as well (and the stripe sets it off), really sweet machine. We do need to hear it, even if you "callyfudge" a lapel mic on a wire... My only criticism of your biking ensemble shown is not antiqueing your key fob up with some black polish yet 😜 Really nice bike though really, keep this one lol
Cracking vid and nice review, thanks. Regarding the headlight bulb ... what are MOT regs like in Portugal? ... as in the UK now it's illegal to fit an LED bulb into a headlight thats not specifically designed for LED bulbs .... so fitting an LED into the Speed Twins headlight bowl here would be an MOT fail (of course one could always just swap back to halogen bulb just for the MOT).
There's actually no MOT for bikes here, although they're talking about introducing one (and so they should). Valid point about the bulb, although as I said, I never ride at night, it's just for flashing other road users :)
@@RocketMan_Moto I'm kinda surprised that the bike doesn't come with a full LED headlight, wouldn't have known had you not mentioned it. Thats certainly a relaxed attitude to roadworthiness over there, sounds like you're good to go with the bulb swap. Just about to watch your second vid on the Speedy ... as someone who is on the verge of buying one your information is very useful, thanks!!
Hope you enjoyed the videos. You can’t go far wrong the Speed Twin, but you obviously need to try it for yourself. Warning: the torque is addictive ⚠️ 😂
I have a 2019 Speed Twin and the throttle spacers helped smooth things out a bit. However, I still ran into issues with what seemed like poor fueling, especially when adding power at lower RPMs, or blipping throttle prior to downshifts. I ended up installing a booster plug and it totally transformed the bike. Overall opinion on booster plugs seems split, but it worked well for my application. Stuart Fillingham has a good video on the subject.
Lol, I was born in the same city as Stuart (Hull), but I left when I was 18 and have now completely lost the accent. The main problem I have with his videos is how long he takes to get to the point. He can make a 15-minute video about a brass nut :D
Fuel booster, throttle spacer and performance air filter vastly improved the fuelling.....Next mod. is taller gearing,as too short through the gears. 6th feels like you're in 4th!
Thanks, Danny. No, I looked at the Dart Piranha, but it’s still too tall for me (and plastic). I went with the Rizoma. Expensive, but excellent quality👍
What part number is the led headlight bulb? I’m picking mine up tomorrow. I have a USA spec one, and the turn signals and brake light are ghastly, they will be changed out nearly immediately
You might like to see this video, where I run through all 40(!) mods I have done to my bike so far, including the LED headlight bulb: th-cam.com/video/ZEfhUHwb4N8/w-d-xo.html Very strange the LED turn signals are not allowed in the US. Anyway, details... Enjoy your new bike, it's a fabulous machine :)
@@RocketMan_Moto it’s not actually that LED turn signals aren’t allowed, it’s got to do with the department of transportation’s laws on the SIZE of the indicators. The US spec indicators are led units it’s just they’re much bigger to satisfy the size requirements. I put the euro spec led signals on my street triple tho and had no problems in the time I owned it
MCN dyno tested the new Speed twin and found it down on power compared to the old model in the lower rev range. What do you make of this. Interested to hear your view on this.
There are very few recent used bikes available here in the Algarve, so that wasn't really an option. And as I change bikes quite regularly, selling the 2022 model should be easier :)
Thanks, João. You're right... and there's no conclusive answer. Is it worth more than the Trident? Yes, but double? Not so sure. Stick around for more thoughts in coming videos :)
Great choice - looking forward to seeing more videos with this beauty! Btw as a Brit thinking of moving to the Algarve within the next 18 months would you recommend it?
Thanks! The Algarve is a fabulous place to live... if you're retired, or close, but there's no real economy here of interest to younger folk. Depends on your job, of course. I work online, so I can live almost anywhere :)
Thanks for the insight buddy! I'll be working online too so looking for somewhere with realistic post-Brexit (hate it!) visa requirements that also has the weather and qol I'm looking for. Portugal/Algarve seems like it fits the bill nicely!
Thanks for the heads-up, I will have to watch out for that. Sounds as if it could be dangerous - did it stick both ways, when releasing the throttle, too?
@@RocketMan_Moto Hi well, at first it seemed fine, no play at all. But after a while there was a slight binding going on, both directions. So, one day I removed it, and the binding drag effect was gone. It was a subtle thing. My bike is a 2019 Triumph Scrambler 1200XC.
Thoroughly enjoyed that - as an owner of the original Speed Twin (which I love) I can't wait to have a go on one of these newer models soon and do a direct comparison. Very envious of your sunshine today!!! All the best - Andy
Thanks, Andy. Your many videos on the ST have proven very useful in planning the mods. Arton dials, throttle spacers... they’re all on order👍
Have to admit, that TMF was a good part of my decision to go with the 850 Sport. Thanks for your review
Andy provides excellent content 👍😊
As always exceptional. Enjoy and all the best
Thanks, João😊
I have just ordered this bike. Need to wait until March '22 for getting it delivered. Thank you for this excellent and very personal first-few-days review. Makes my waiting time even tougher. 😊👍
Thanks, Peter. I know the feeling, but it’s definitely worth the wait. I didn’t want to be too gushing in the first impressions video, but it’s easily the most exciting bike I’ve ever owned. I hope the many videos I have in the pipeline will make the wait a bit more bearable😊
Good lord that's a beautiful bike. Sounds like it does the business too.
Six months on and I still love it (which is unusual for me). Definitely a keeper.
Excellent choice. I own a street twin and love it.
Thank you, Louis! I love the Street Twin, but I'm a self-confessed torque junky, so couldn't resist, lol :)
Congratulations great bike looks fantastic I am a Triumph man currently ride a T120
Thanks. I would be perfectly happy with the T120. Enjoy!
Despite of the bike which is been always a delight to eye and a superstar in its own way i'm just here to admire your extraordinary quality presentation. Great choice by the way.. Congrats 🎊
Thank you for your kind words of encouragement :)
You command attention and always focussed reviews with tint of comparison. Thank you
Thank you for your kind words of encouragement😊
Fantastic video absolutely spot on what you said about the new speed twin I have a triumph speed twin and have tested the new speed twin and noticed a difference straight away not a massive difference but certainly a difference stay safe looking forward to more videos 🇬🇧👍
Thanks, Richard. I agree the difference is not massive, but definitely noticeable. I would be happy with either, tbh, they are really excellent bikes. Sleepers, just my style! Kind of kicking myself for not getting one sooner :)
@@RocketMan_Moto you will love the speed twin enjoy 🇬🇧👍
Thanks :)
Very nice, congratulations. Looking forward to upcoming stories regarding tuning, ehm, tailorizing that bike to suit your needs. Wish you many happy miles and tons of fun with the new baby.
Thank you, Martin. I have already done quite a few mods and will be doing a video on them shortly. Ride safe :)
Quelle machine! J’ai essayé une ST 900 et c’est déjà très sympa, la 1200 le rêve. Dream bike with that perfect look combined to serious technology.
On est d’accord👍😊
I am currently thinking of buying either a new model or the old version. Motorrad Magazine has tested the old one two years ago and recently the new one and there was quite a difference in engine performance.
The figures show that at 3000rpm the new model has about 15Nm less torque than the old model !
Max Torque: 114Nm at 3400rpm (old) vs 108Nm at 4300rpm (new)
Max Power: 98hp at 6700rpm (old) vs 100hp at 7200rpm (new)
Acceleration from 0-100km/h: 3,4sec (old) 3,7sec (new)
Acceleration from 60-100km/h in 6th gear: 3,4 sec (old) 3,9sec (new)
Fuel consumption on country lanes: 4,2l/100km (old) 4,6l/100km (new)
Quieter exhaust on the new one: 93dB vs 96dB for the old one at idle
However, chassis- and brake-wise the new model scored more points than the old one.
Thanks, David😊 The accessories video will be along very soon.
Nice vid GM! Greetings from RE and the funny interceptors! We love the speed twin!!
REs are great, especially the Interceptor. Ride safe :)
Congrats to your new bike. As always a nice review, even it is kind of a for a first impression, it is more substantial than so many others. Thank you and have fun.
Thank you, Andi. A few more in-depth & comparison videos in the pipeline, so stick around :)
Great choice, think you nailed it, A naked bike is perfect given the wonderful climate and type of riding your do.
Thank you. I think so too, tbh - perfect bike for the roads and the climate here👍😊
It’s beautiful! If I were to get a second bike this would be at the top of my list.
Thank you! Really enjoying it so far. Puts a big smile on my face every time I ride it :)
Good looking bike, looking forward to see the added tweaks ! The reference to the E39 M5 V8 resonates and as eux-owner I can almost feel as if I sat on your new bike… 3rd gear from 20 to 100 mph almost like an automatic gearbox with so much torque
Haha, glad you got the analogy. The E39 M5 was something special! Stay tuned for tweaking videos :)
This is what a retro but modern motorcycle should look like...other manufacturers need to take a note...
Agreed :)
An absolute stunner !! Well worth the wait ! Great to see it and looking forward to seeing more on it.
Thank you. More videos in the pipeline :)
A beautiful bike with performance to match. Agree about those yellow highlights on cars and bikes these days. It put me off buying last years black Street Triple RS.
Thanks! The LED bulb will be going in soon :)
Good to see you finally got your new bike and a good choice. Good first look video look forward to the next 1.
Thank you, Lyn. It was a frustratingly long wait, but definitely worth it :)
It’s a great review, I love videos by mature adults. Well done.
I love the bike! I only wish they’d offer better color and emblem options.
Thank you, Michael. I agree the colour options are a bit limited, but it's still a fabulous bike :)
Best of luck with the new ride!👍🏻
I went to a Triumph demo last weekend. 😎
Looking forward to seeing your next update on your new steed. Cheers!
Cheers
Thank you! Yes, a long wait, but it was worth it - a fabulous machine. Very happy :)
Called it! Enjoy that beauty! 👍
Lol, yes I remember. Unfortunately, it was a secret, so I couldn't say anything :) Really enjoying it so far. I think it's a keeper!
Thanks. Yes, I'm hoping to keep this one for a while, as I will be explaining in the mods video :)
Helpful review, thank you-I has one of the first speed twins early 2019-sold in 2020 as I wasn’t riding it enough and have regretted that ever since! The 2022 one looks very good. They still haven’t sorted out that rear mudguard though.. not a problem for you in Portugal, but here in Scotland, the only way not to get covered in muck is to take the current and final wife out with me :-)
Lol! :) I've still got my Speed Twin (I used to chop and change every 6 months) - still one of the most thrilling bikes I've owned. Ride safe :)
That's good to hear. At the price they sell us their machines, customer service should be excellent.
The dealer network is a big part of choosing the right bike, I agree
Great review. Bike looks gorgeous. Checking in from Philadelphia in the US.
Well, bom dia from deepest Portugal. Thanks for stopping by. Glad you like the Speed Twin😊👍
Congrats RM, a beautiful choice! Can't wait to see it with those guards you showed us.
Me too. If you look closely, you can see the rear CF guard is already on, but the front one they sent isn't compatible with the new bike, so it's going to have to wait a while.
@@RocketMan_Moto I did notice the difference front to rear, I was waiting for my first service and saw your vid. Not the best condition to do so...
I understand. My videos deserve the Imax experience, lol :)
Fitted a throttle spacer on my Tiger 900 - transforms low speed throttle response, so much smoother. Can certainly recommend !
Good to hear. I ordered one a few weeks ago from the US, but it still hasn't arrived :(
@@RocketMan_Moto yep - they take a while - took TMF’s advice after he fitted one to his Speed Twin (his TH-cam vids cost me money) 😂
@@lordpunter6188 That's where I saw them, too :)
Finally! Glad to see you're back in a full-size saddle ;-)
Haha, thanks Duck :)
I agree on the 'more room' bit, but the high exhaust on the Scrambler is too much of an issue here in Portugal - too hot :)
@@RocketMan_Moto Possibly. I agree it should be lower. It would look just as good.
Agreed
Congrats on the new bike, excellent choice, absolutely gorgeous! Love Triumph, I'm definitely buying one next year, got a couple of choices 🙂
As always, love your reviews, look forward to your in depth one where you also mentioned talking about the mods!
Cheers from "chilly" Austria! ✌🏼
Thanks, Alex! Mod review coming soon, although you can spot quite a few already in this video. Ride safe and stay warm :)
Very nice bike, well done 👍
I never tried one but I just spoke to someone I know who’s actually bought the exact same bike and already gave it back to the dealer after two weeks and loosing $2k because he couldn’t handle that huge amount of heat from the engine.
Hopefully you are ok with that.
Enjoy your new bike.
Haha, yes the engine does give off a lot of heat, so riding with anything less than proper riding jeans is not really an option :)
I still love my Trident (the white looks brilliant, tbf) but will be trading it in April for the Tiger 660, which I think will combine nearly all the elements for “my” riding.
Haha, quite agree, Mike. The throttle just begs you to twist it. ALL the time! Love it :)
I sold my 2022 Grom after 9 weeks. That's my fav color scheme for the Speed Twin!
So did I, but don’t tell anyone😬 Thanks, the matte grey has really grown on me😊
What a gorgeous motorcycle. Congratulations. The car analogy of a V8 M5 BMW is interesting. Being an American, I would apply the V8 analogy to a modern 5.0 Ford Mustang. 😃
Thanks you! Haha, yes a Mustang is also a good analogy, although there are fewer around here. Ride safe :)
Thanks :)
I couldn't agree more! Enjoy :)
The brakes and suspension on the 2nd generation have definitely improved, and for that alone I'm glad I waited.
Ill get the same back this week^^ I also did run in my brothers Trident the 80kmh limit really was annoying^^
Enjoy😊
Excellent video, thank you for putting it all together! Seriously considering this as my next bike. But that hi-vis yellow strip and getting rid of it, will be the first modification I will make. What the hell was the design department thinking ... putting a hi-vis yellow stripe on modern classic style bike? Yuck!
Completely agree. Although I immediately covered my stripe up with some aluminium vinyl I was never really happy with the overall look, so 6 months ago had the whole bike repainted: th-cam.com/video/tfPiXqH_Bus/w-d-xo.html
The Speed Twin is definitely the best bike I've ever owned; much more fun than it looks. More Thruxton than T120 :)
@@RocketMan_Moto The new paint job brings the entire street twin to another level and the "blue" is mesmerizing.
I would say that the wheel rims also need re-spraying, to tie it all together.
I did consider doing the rims gold or bronze. Maybe next year?
Cracking review love your channel Man 👊 I had a good test ride on this bike and wished I hadn't🙄 what a bit of kit this bike is.
Would love to all this bike to my Sportster one day 😍 Amazing engine, handling and looks!
You sound exactly like Neil Spalding😉 great stuff 💪👊
Haha, thanks! Yes, I am really enjoying the Speed Twin. Fantastic engine, as you say. Ride safe :)
You got an awesome bike for once! Nice choice. Looks and performs way better than the trident!
Lol, thanks Perry. It certainly is a step up from the Trident :)
The Speed Twin is basically a Thruxton with a more comfortable riding position👍
Fair enough, but I don't like it :)
Great review and I’m sure it’s a wonderful bike. And I absolutely love my previous generation 2021 model. Just the overall design I think is better.
The difference between the old & new is marginal, but definitely noticeable. Both are great bikes, though :)
I guess those almost slick tyres are great in the algarve, perhaps not so good in rainy England! (lol, I typed that before you said it..)
Haha, yes… as I say in the video, I really lucked out with the tyres. It’s as if Triumph put them on especially for me here in the Algarve😬
Terrific bike, I think "beefy" (13.21) sums it up well.
Bike feel in car form, interesting. I'd put my vfr1200 on a par with my old Saab Turbo's, quirky comfy, well built and a surprising rate of effortless performance.
Look forward to future reports.
Thanks, Graham. Saab = VFR1200 sounds like a good comparison to me :)
It's the sleeper look that appeals to me with the Speed Twin
She’s a beauty love the Matt black
Thank you, Ian :)
Try riding in rain mode around town, I find it helps with the snatchy throttle !
Thanks, Tony. You're right, rain mode is quite a bit softer. I tend to use it on group rides :)
@@RocketMan_Moto loving everything about it , so glad to be back on a torquey twin 👊💙
Congratulations on the new bike. I hear what you are saying when it comes to age and the weight of the bike.
Thank you. Oh yes, none of us is getting any younger :)
This is the screen:
www.rizoma.com/en/cf011.html
Expensive, but well made in brushed aluminium and, as you say, nice & discreet :)
Had a feeling you wouldn't keep the Trident, Good bike but little lacking for experienced guy's. The New speed definitely looks better than previous one. Congrats mate and have fun.
Haha, you know me well, Ray! Thanks and ride safe :)
Cheers
I agree - the Z900RS clocks are spot on :)
do you have part number for the rizoma fly screen, i see one on ebay that said 16-20 year model, have asked if it will fit waiting for a reply, $500 au dollars, what a joke, get my bike next tuesday same colour as yours, love it, i like that greene colour on the tank, as they say each for there own, wheels will get painted gold, seat and bar grips in camel brown, have the leather sitting there waiting, after doing my little super cub, looks cool, cant wait to start on the triumph,
I don't have the part number, but it's on Rizoma"s website. I can confirm the screen and bracket from the first generation ST fit the 2022.
@@RocketMan_Moto thanks. Like your vids
Thank you😊
Which LED bulb did you go with and how is it working out? I would love a recommendation please. Thank you for sharing
Still working fine, but this was over 2 years ago, and I’m afraid I can’t remember where I bought it. Sorry.
Yes, splashing out the best part of €1000 on some Öhlins wasn’t an option. The YSS look fine and are more than up to my limited riding skills😊
Thanks for the tips. I must try the bike with the TC off :)
Haha, thanks :) I think this one is a keeper. I agree the key fob needs some patina!
Gorgeous bike mate. I love the grey and yellow stripe. I own a Trident and now I am jealous … I am not too sure about the Johnny 5 dials though 🤔
Lol, thanks, Lyndon. The dials will be going soon - swapping them out for a more subdued design :)
Great review of a great bike. Could you tell me where I can get a fly screen and mounting hardware for my 2022 Speed Twin like the one on your bike?
Sure, here you go:
www.rizoma.com/en/cf011.html
Thanks, Tim. I have heard that booster plug + spacers are the way to go, but I will need to wait for a Euro V version, I suppose😐
Superb bike, congrats 🥳
Thank you, Terry :)
Where is the fly screen from.
Rizoma
My new bike here in the USA has no light switch where you have yours, mine is low and in front with no light on gauges until turned on.
Yes, I think there are numerous differences between the EU and US versions. Only details, though. Still a very enjoyable machine😊
Stunning bike. Love the specs as well. I’m about to trade my trident for one. Is that the Dart Pirhana flyscreen? Thank you
Thanks, Danny.
You might like to see this video, where I run through all 40(!) mods I have done to my bike so far, including the LED headlight bulb: th-cam.com/video/ZEfhUHwb4N8/w-d-xo.html
Very strange the LED turn signals are not allowed in the US.
I put the euro spec led signals on my street triple tho and had no problems in the time I owned it
Ah ok, I understand now. Thanks for clearing that up. Hope you found the headlight reference in the description👍
Did you end up trying the Z900RS? how do you rate it against the Speed twin? I like the T120 too but not as impressed by the performance.
Unfortunately, my local Yamaha dealer still doesn't have a Z900RS on demo :(
MCN dyno tested the new Speed twin and found it down on power compared to the old model in the lower rev range. What do you make of this. Interested to hear your view on this.
I have noticed a slight drop in mid range, but honestly there’s so much power & torque available anyway, that it doesn’t really matter, imo😊
Interested in hearing about the mods. I am still a little unconvinced on the new bike. Save a few grand and buy a previous model??
There are very few recent used bikes available here in the Algarve, so that wasn't really an option. And as I change bikes quite regularly, selling the 2022 model should be easier :)
Well detailed video plenty of info thanks
Thanks, Don😊
Nice bike, but why don't they eliminate the gas tank seam?
I agree it would look nicer without the seam, but once you're riding it, you don't think about details like that :)
Great review, as always! You didn't answer your own question: is it worth double the price of the trident?
Thanks, João. You're right... and there's no conclusive answer. Is it worth more than the Trident? Yes, but double? Not so sure. Stick around for more thoughts in coming videos :)
Was the Trident fueling snatchy at lower speeds?
Not as bad as the Speed Twin, no.
I tried that throttle spacer, and ended up removing it. It blinded somewhat, and made my throttle harder to twist.
Thanks for the heads-up, I will have to watch out for that. Sounds as if it could be dangerous - did it stick both ways, when releasing the throttle, too?
My throttle spacers are fine, were they fitted correctly as I've not heard of anyone complaining ????
I must admit this is the first problem I've heard about with the spacers
@@RocketMan_Moto Hi well, at first it seemed fine, no play at all. But after a while there was a slight binding going on, both directions. So, one day I removed it, and the binding drag effect was gone. It was a subtle thing. My bike is a 2019 Triumph Scrambler 1200XC.
Thank you for your feedback. I will certainly watch out for this problem when I install my spacers :)
