I have been planting Zinnias for several years now. Love love them. Last couple years planted the solid color with the splash of color. You put up such beautiful pictures to see. I also start mine inside and when planted outside I plant new seeds. Always start enough to pass around. You gave some very helpful tips. Thank you for sharing 🌻🏵
I'm growing Zinnias for the first time this year! I fell in LOVE with the soft and pastel shades of the Dawn Creek breeding mix, which led me to be interested in breeding my own zinnias and colors. Aspirational, but worth a shot. I bought 20 or so varieties to start with . 😆 i might be in a little over my head.
My wife loves zinnia! I love my wife. I guess that is why I love zinnia too! Great video! A lot of helpful advice! Good luck with your zinnia this year!
This is my first time planting any seeds. I bought a group of 5 packets on Amazon, added a packet of white polar bear, and a pack of periwinkle colored lacy phacelia. I will be planting California Giants by my Maximillian sunflowers, in the space where a squirrel demolished my aster. The Canary yellow and Luminosa pink will have a bed a few feet out from my back patio. The green Envy, the white Polar Bears, and the lacy phacelia will be in and across from my herb garden. The Thumbelina are going in a front yard sidewalk border. I have seen so many other beautiful zinnias on youtube and will probably try some others next year. Just found and loving your channel.
+Joyce Hancock yes as zinnias age they become more susceptible to powdery mildew, falling over, and not as pretty blooms … by succession sowing you can keep the best and brightest going and pull the others.
You're easy to listen to...we always had Zinnias growing up in the Blue Ridge Mt. Of Va. And of course Marigolds. I haven't had a decent garden in 3 yrs. But this year I am gonna try very hard to make it beautiful again. I'll be watching you...have fun.
scarlet red. One night I found a mini green gecko 🦎 sleeping on that big flat red flower. It was the most amazing thing I have seen. Peaceful and tranquil
I started sowing zinnia seeds a few years ago and I love them! I was looking for answers about thinning my zinnia seedlings and was so happy that you don’t bother….because I never have! I can’t believe you are in Wylie! I’m in Sachse! I will be following you and look forward to being inspired. Your arrangements beautiful! I’ve never paid attention to the varieties. The first years they all came back and that’s when I said forget the tomatoes! My raised bed will be filled with color!
Thks for your inspiration! I usually plant Moonflower seeds only, but I am going to plant the Zinnia seeds too. Did it many years ago. I also grew Cockscomb years ago and Cleome. Time to get back to those sweet projects. Thank you. Ahna. Georgia USA 🏡🏡🪴
Purple Prince are also my favorite! Last July my husband gave me cash and I got seeds and plants from the garden center. Today in the afternoon it’s going to rain so I will be planting a lot of seeds including zinnias! The zinnia varieties I am planting today or Lilliput, Giant Cactus, and Giants of California. I am planting flower seeds every two weeks for a cut flower garden into fall. I think the birds and rodent’s are eating all my sunflower seeds. I just saw a different video about using tulle on top of the soil until the seeds sprout to scare away pests.
I like zinnias, going to try and grow from seed this year, I usually buy as starts, last 2 years we haven't had a fair, but the previous year, I won first place with my Zinnias.
I have 14 different varieties of zinnias to grow. Some you recommended in another video. I was not careful about checking the height of the plants and ended up with 2 short varieties. I wasn’t going to plant them but now I’m going to put them in my front yard for neighbors to enjoy. Thanks for sharing. Love your videos.
Great tutorial video on zinnias, Amanda. I have come to love zinnias. I think I’m going to try direct seeding some in my flower bed. I love the sweet little carpet zinnias that look almost like daisies. I also love the big bold Magellan zinnias in gold, orange, and deep pink. This year I want to change out my mister irrigation heads for drip. Drip is more efficient, and most plants should be watered at the base. My soil is very sandy, so I need to work in some compost to help it retain some moisture. I’m in zone 8a in southeastern NC. Summer heat index at 4 p.m. can be 100 degrees or better with 80% plus humidity. Zinnias can handle it, even if I can’t.
Thank you for your content! I love the background, it’s beautiful elegant and well thought out. YOU LOOK BEAUTIFUL! You’re so sweet, keep being you!!!! Wish I had the time to start my own channel I have so much content in my head😂😂😂😂
Last year, I did a lot of giant purple, lilac, white and wine zinnias. I loved the colors but I didn't succession plant so I am going to work on that this year. I just have limited space and do a lot in fabric pots. So this year I am doing more filler flowers plus I'm trying OK pink, OK salmon, queen lime blush plus some of the purples. Oh and I'm trying more dahlias this year. I got them from various companies/individuals. I bought from Costco last year some dahlias that were not what was on the package and ended up being like 1 to 1.5 inches in size.... super bummer losing the whole season to grow minis. So I'm throwing those out and doing the new dahlias I purchased. Enjoyed the video!
My neighbor and I grow a kind of zinnia hedge between our houses. Just fairly ordinary zinnias, but they self seed year after year. This year I bought some zinderella peach and cannot wait to see how they turn out. Zinnias can be grown by children. Big seeds, good germination, bright flowers.
I’m so happy I found your channel! I grew zinnia (and cosmos) for the first time last year and have been obsessed since! I’ve ordered so many varieties this year I am going to have to dig out new beds. What were the large white ones in the pic with your pup? I’m hoping it’s Polar Bear, because I ordered that one hoping for big white beautiful blooms…
Great tips. I'm itching to start my zinnias, theyre so fun to grow. My favorite are the queen lime, or the pink ones that I found in my old seed pack I can't think of the name odd hand,
I grew for the first time in the ground last year. My mom gave me 2 expired wildflower packets and they grew like crazy in horrible soil 😂. They were taller than me and I harvested a boat load of seeds for this year. 💚💚💚💚
Great and informative video, especially the tip about sowing every two weeks. Besides my roses, zinnias are my favorite. I saved a lot of seeds from last year's blooms, but I see that Purple Prince is a big favorite with so many readers, so I'm going to try and find some of those seeds to plant this year. Beautiful photos of your past zinnias and I'm going to try drying some next year, too.
I love zinnias! They mix into so many color schemes in bouquets. This year I'm growing several varieties. Queen Lime is my replacement for Envy - I've heard it's larger and brighter? Others I'm growing include queen lime red, ql orange and a variety of others including Cactus Zinnias, Calif Giants, Dahlia Zinnias, Lilliput, State Fair Mix, Miss Wilmott pink, & Oklahoma white. Next year I want to order Benary Giant wine and coral. :)
I have purple prince tu o sow soon! I started with Zinnia's as my 3rd flower from seed!... My favorite one is the Candy Striped! I wished I could get bigger Dahlia sized ones! Maybe try to breed one?
Love your videos! I grow yellow profusion every year because they hold their color so well, even get some small butterflies on them. Do you have a color/variety that you think draws more butterflies than others? I live very close to you but seems like I live in a butterfly dessert , always hoping to get more.
Zinnia's are my all-time favorite! Thank you for your information. Do you use anything to help hold the tall variety up? I have noticed my Red very tall Zinnia's from Bakers Creek. I can't remember the exact name at the moment..... They grow so tall and are beautiful. I'm going to grow some smaller varieties this year to accent the borders around my butterfly garden. I'm here in 8a as well. Granbury TX
Please do a video on using floret seeds from zinnias. All the videos only show using ray seeds. I'd like to see what Floret seed are viable as they are more true to the parent plant.
What if I don’t have drip irrigation? I’ve only grown them in pots this year but would love to plant some in my flowerbeds. Our sprinklers come on before sunrise. Will I be disappointed?
