    We are a travel couple, looking for a non-mainstream life of living aboard a boat and cruising in the Caribbean/Bahamas, Working when we can to fill the cruising kitty. We have sold everything we own, and we now own a cruising yacht. We have chosen to do this voyaging in a powerboat/motor vessel, instead of the popular sailing route.
    Our mission is to help inspire people to live their dreams earlier in life, instead of waiting until retirement. So often retirement dreams are dashed by health issues or other unforeseen later-life circumstances. If you have a dream, then dream, plan, and do it now. We hope to make you smile, and spark the yearning in your heart for fulfilling your dreams.

    Both engines have been running the life of the boat. When one needs rebuilding that’s telling you the other needs rebuilding as well. Dont wait till it breaks or it will be more expensive.

    Loved the British Columbia photos -- it is so spectacular in that region. We did an Alaskan cruise last summer and loved every minute of it. Glad you were able to figure out the engine issue! BTW you went right by my house on the way to Peck's Lake -- I overlook the ICW right at the junction of the St. Lucie Inlet and Indian River Lagoon. Another very calm anchorage nearby is Kitching Cove at the north end of the St. Lucie River near the old Club Med site. About 5' of water everywhere. Another place to anchor is off Sailfish Pt -- but you have to be careful about water depth. Congrats on new engine.

Have a spare, gonna check warranty before I use spare. There is a marine liquidation store here that is as big as a Walmart, almost. Huge! Go by dink and short Uber. Oh and anchorage is straight across from Harbortown/Safeharbor marina. Nice anchorage, sand bottom. No wake zone! I looked it up, 26mi from you. Be good break in trip. • @SearchingforCShels
      @SearchingforCShels  ปีที่แล้ว

      We are in very close quarters, not much width to the fairway until is shallows up bad. Not to mention the dinghy dock right in front of our dock. Your larger rudders may help as well. We have no bow thruster and there is a small current in the marina as well. If I lost the bow, there would be no bringing her back. Too risky. I've backed her into our slip twice in the Bahamas last season with one engine, when we made our attempts to cross back to FL and turned around because of sea conditions. That was in Bimini Cove Marina and had lots of room to manoeuvre.

    • @thatchh1

      Why never rebuild just one engine? We couldn't afford to rebuild the one let alone two when the other one may go a few more thousand hours or more. Two new engines will be really nice. Will the engines be in for this winter season in the Bahamas?

    • @terrypedersen7
      @terrypedersen7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have no experience in diesel boat engines or boating of this nature in general but someday hope to so I am following along. However we have owned hundreds of diesel engines in construction equipment and heavy trucks and we never rebuild an engine for the sake of doing so even if we are reliant on the piece. One engine might need to rebuilt at less than 10,000 hrs due to a failure while several others exactly the same might reach 18-20,000 hrs. My other experience is in aircraft engines and yes one follows strict rules on hours between major overhaul for good reason. A boat is maybe somewhere in between but not likely catastrophic if a failure occurs. I can see rebuilding a high time engine that is no doubt on borrowed time but otherwise it seems like a waste of resources. Out of curiosity roughly how many hours does one expect out of an engine under these conditions?
      Happy to see you back enjoying the seas!

    • @SProz69
      @SProz69 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here is the thing guys… on boats that are in saltwater, the engines, generator and engine room take a beating from the salt air, engine hours x3. So when something happens to one engine that requires a major disruptive event, like a rebuild, it’s the perfect opportunity to replace, repair and re-paint a whole bunch of other stuff. Remember this is a yacht not construction equipment, you have to tear half the salon apart just to get the engines out. Yes it’s expensive, welcome to the world of diesel boats. But, it’s way more expensive to have major engine problems when you are down Island. You pay now or pay way more later. Cruising is an amazing experience and a lifestyle I wouldn’t trade for anything, but it’s expensive. Oh and btw, never have major work done on the east coast of Fl if you can avoid it, the yards are a third more expensive minimum, it’s worth the fuel expense to haul out on the gulf coast.

    Embarrassing that you cannot drive your boat on one motor. For as long as you’ve been at it. No reason for a tow boat jeez. Secondly, turn your fuel on. Done

    so nice to see Carrie and Big back on the boat and having fun , just curious did you give thought to having both rebuilt to keep them equal

      Rebuilding the other engine isn’t really done unless you are uber rich. There could be thousands of hours left in that engine yet.

    Love these guys but they let COVID beat them. Letting that boat sit was detrimental. I kept traveling I bought a year of travel health insurance it was 179 a month. These two are great. They should have 100k subs at least.
