This small stream fishing is my favourite type of thing, I'll leave the monster fish to the people who crave them, I'd rather have a nice session like you've just had, anytime! @@easyfishing1936 Cheers Bill i fished at Packington Somers fishery today on the so called "moody" Molands lake...lived up to its nickname really only caught one F1 and some tiddler silvers but was still a nice day really. Bill, watch the cold matey. Excellent find. Us Poms in Oz really appreciate your efforts. You bring back such great memories of fishing in UK as a lad. Long may you run. Cheers Allan
A big like from me down here in Oz, Bill!! Made my morning on a day when I am housebound and dreaming of fish! Really love pulling good fish from tight water myself. For me, it's black drummer (Eastern rock blackfish aka pigs) in among shallow rock-studded gutters along the coastal fringes south of Wollongong. Fish from 4lbs - 10 lbs go really hard and you can't give them an inch (though sometimes you have to let a really big one run as a big pig will dictate the terms of the fight). By-passers often can't believe that you've pulled such a quality fish from such shallow, gnarly water yet, it's that very environment which provides fish equipped for this rugged environment with so much food and so many feeding opportunities. Really hope your health improves, Bill, and you can get out for more short sessions as you're such a knowledgeable fisherman who embraces the true essence of fishing and often enjoys its simplicity, something I feel is so important in these manic times where everything is moving at a horrible rate of knots!
Frank Saunders Hi well your fishing sounds like great fun. The fish you describe sound like our Wrasse which live in similar places and devour hard back crabs and fight well on light but not too light tackle. If time allows I want to have a go for them this summer. Bill
Yes, Bill, you're right. They're like a wrasse but one on steroids with a powerfully built thick body, paddle like tail and small mouth which demands a relatively small but extra strong hook. They respond very well to bread burley (ground bait) and I am sure with your liquified bread and an extra large bread punch bait you would have a ball. When you find yourself stuck indoors next, have a look at this footage taken after rough weather had pushed large numbers of black drummer in among a shallow boulder strewn gutter. I'm sure you will find it interesting: th-cam.com/video/pd-LDvYTj5Q/w-d-xo.html
Tim Murdock Hi well you are lucky there. Some of these streams hold odd brownies but very few and far between, just not the right environment for them. Having said that I know someone caught a big brownies about 4 lbs from a local river and returned it alive. The fish looked stunning in the picture. Bill
Excellent once again Bill reminds me of a small almost identically looking river/stream I used to fish in Cheshire,it had everything in it !Cheers Bill
Cant beat a bit of lipage . Proper fishing you have inspired this old timer to go back to a rod and a pocket full of tackle. Done all the carp cat ,stuff Carp is like fishing in a fish tank as with trout. So back to the streams locally. Thanks once again for all your videos
Well done. Great video as usual. Quality fishing in such a small river/stream. A fish is a fish, size isn’t important, it’s time on the bank. Take care pal.
Bill another amazing video and what a gem of a spot. I take we will see more videos from there 👍🏼 , and for those who say you left a hook what a load of 🤬 . Stay safe and healthy and keep these videos rolling out my friend.
Watch his earlier video he did appear to leave the hook in. Which is understandable if the fish was badly gut hooked, but if it was not then that is unacceptable.
Hello Bill, from across the pond. I don't know if you believe this but, in the sixty's we would eat our bumpy headed chubs. With all the building in the seventy's, the streams got load with so much pollution it became unsafe to eat them. I am old enough to remember "Fried chub sandwich's". Best wishes from south Florida.
bigbunny onthemove Hi well your chub must taste different to ours then! We practise catch n release now but back in time they were reckoned to taste like cotton wool filled with tin tacks!! Bill
@@easyfishing1936 Must be different, I can see your chub have bigger scales. Our chub, sometimes call a Horned Chub had a number of bumps on the snout. The country folk called them bumpy headed chubs. The texture was more like a lake trout, kinda mushy but good. I live in south Florida now and my favorites are Mangrove Snapper and Grouper. Well all I can say is keep your finger on the line and best wishes from south Florida...
Nice fishing Bill. There's a similar swim near to me, at the bottom of a small weir. I've had some decent fish out of it. Roach, perch & chub. The problem with swims like that is, nobody bothers with them till see they see someone fishing there, then they decide to have a go. So its quite possible next time ou try to fish there, it will be occupied!
Great fun Bill.. wee streams can hold big surprises! 😉👍 I used to go to University in Silsoe which I think is in your area. Used to fish Wrest Park alot and the streams around Flitwick and of course the Ouse. Love watching your adventures. 😁
James Compston hi can you fish in Wrest Park? That’s a new one for me, never heard of fishing there before. Any info would be gratefully received about that. Yes I’m a few miles away in Luton and used to live in Bedford so know the area fairly well. Bill
Hi Bill, I was at University in the early 90's so alot may have changed since then. I live in Northern Ireland so haven't been back there in 25 years. There was an arrangement with the research station at Wrest Park that we could get membership for £15 for the year. It was great value and I caught some cracking Carp and Tench and you would rarely see another angler! 😁👍
Thanks Bill what an exciting bit of fishing that was brilliant. Could see just how much you were enjoying that. As for the non believers it’s not what we want to hear we know you are a fish friendly fisherman so care on as you are.
Brilliant and inspirational once more bill i know of a little stre local to me and keep driving past needless to say the next time I'm there I'll have a few bits and a rod and bait too . Keep up the great work 👍🐟🐟🐟🐟
chris lilley Thanks and I’m willing to bet there will be a tiny stream like that near you often hardly visible. When I’m driving if a see any bridge I will stop and look for water and I’ve found some amazing fishing over the years. Mind you some of them have dried up or are plastered with private no fishing signs! Bill
Reg Jenkinson Hi well I can’t give an exact answer, but at least 2 hours drive. Hence why I don’t get to Yorkshire or any part of northern England . I wish I could because I know there is fabulous fishing and in some parts some stunning scenery to boot! Bill
Hishaam Adam Hi I have done so if you look on my playlist. I think I titled it a versatile feeder rig and includes the link ledger as used on this video. Bill
Never underestimate small streams. Big chub lurk there. You did well, but roving (if you can) would open your window of opportunity. For chub fishing forceps work much better. Nice video Bill.
River Otter Hi this was the only swim I could fish and in this case a barrel disgorger was the only way to get out hooks I could not see and I do carry forceps as well Bill
That was a great session, Bill. Thank you very much for sharing. Honestly, there’s nothing wrong with those kind of fish anywhere. I do find it a shame, however, that such a nice fish has Such an unappealing name, “chub.” Thanks again. David, South Carolina
huttonista dav Hi I don’t mind the name and I love the fish and they are sort after in the uk. A big fish is a beautiful brassy colour and they will eat anything they can get in their huge mouths, feed in the coldest weather and found in most running water and some lakes. Bill
huttonista dav Hi we practise catch n return as we have laws preventing killing fish but we do eat sea and game fish. The old guys claimed they tasted like cotton wool filled with tin tacks!! Bill
Very enjoyable Bill, no worries about camera angle or road noise. Love these intimate little spots others pass by not even given a thought to and some nice fishing in there as well! I think we fisherman have that “ one last cast “ inbred in us lol. Let the haters hate, you enjoy your time on the water and have tight lines. I will be trying that line spooling in water trick 👍.
Greetings from Alabama great video mate and if the hooks not in the gills the fish will be fine and the hook will be out in less that a week most of the time
334 Outdoors Hi I never leave hooks in fish and I know that a single hook will not worry the fish having caught fish with hooks left in them. Treble hooks must never be left in as they can seal their throat and leave them to starve and I have found dead pike with trebles in them and no wire trace either! Bill
Ignore the idiots who aim criticism your a very experienced Angler anf clearly wouldn't ever intentionally harm any fish sometimes its safer to leave a gut hooked hook in to stop it bleeding to death hooks rust and can be digested thanks for the video Bill keep them coming
gavin mcnamara Hi and thank you for the nice comment. I don’t think I have left a hook in a fish when I have landed it for over 50 years. I have lost fish of course that have taken me into snags as on this occasion but that is beyond my control, which is why I tend to play chub hard to prevent them reaching snags. Bill
Once again you prove that the most unlikely of swims can provide great sport. Judging by your big smiles you enjoyed yourself and that's nice to see. One suggestion attach a disgorger to a length of string around your neck and clip some forceps to your jacket for easy access in tight situations. Well done.
Hi Bill this is the first video I've watched that you have produced. Its very clear you are a sound, honest decient man that's why I'd like your help.Ive recently moved to Reading from Ireland and I really miss fishing.Irish fishing is generally Salmon and Trout but I'd love to get into small stream fishing because it reminds me of my childhood.Id also like to learn more about the Fishing in England. Were and what kind of fishing would you recommend for me.I just want to be fishing again lol
stephen o neill Hi well I’m glad you have found my video’s. It’s funny how we go to Ireland for the fantastic coarse fishing and I have been about twenty times and loved it, so I was surprised you hadn’t fished for the coarse fish. As to your question we have most types of fishing including game but river caught salmon are rare and to rent a beat is prohibitive! You will need a rod licence where ever you fish and they can be bought on line or from the post office. Now in the Reading area there are a few small rivers but most will be club controlled tho’ some will be free or day ticket. The best bet is to find the local tackle shops and ask for their help. They will know about most small rivers and streams in their area so can advise you much better than I can but I do know there is some very good fishing in the area. There are carp lakes trout lakes all sorts in the are and I don’t know if you want to catch big fish or just fish for whatever comes along and your tackle choice will reflect in that. A good Avon type rod will serve you well. Look for one about 11 ft with a test curve of 1 to 1 1/4 lbs, Drennan do several of these and are very good. I’m lusting after their new Twin Top 1 lb test curve model but at 12 ft it might be a bit long for a small river work. An alternative is a commercial carp method feeder rod and they are great on small rivers as well and this is the type I’m using in this video. Hope this helps. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have more question and Easy Fishing has a Facebook page where you can leave your question and I will get back to you Bill
@@easyfishing1936 Thanks bill.I live in the North of Ireland, and there isn't much coarse fishing there but funny you mention coarse fishing because most of the fishermen i meet tell me about how great it is in Ireland.I l will use your info and get back to you.
Cees Van der Schoot Hi well I f you get the chance bring your tackle as we have some good fishing and Britain might be small but is very beautiful just remember waterproofs! Bill
Lol m8 england is allot bigger then my country the netherlands . We have some good fishing here 2 , but yeah iff i go too england i will give u a mail.
Another great video Bill. I'm a novice and learning with every post you make. My apologies for what many would consider a silly question but could you explain the rig you were using and why it seemed to change part way through the video. Regards Dave.
Dave Perry Hi yes of course. I started fishing for roach with a running link ledger. That is a free tuning swivel bead stopped with a gripper stop on 5 lb line with a hooklength of 3 lbs. the link was just a few inches of line with a swan shot pinched on. I started expecting roach but as soon as I lost the first chub I removed the hooklength and tied the hook onto the mainline . Bill
Glad to see you back on the bank. Nice sized chub, I don't think we get them here in my area. Looks like it would have made a nice meal for two. I have cabin fever right now. I can't get out to fish until the new license comes out in April. Can't afford the $60 just for a couple of months. Come April I will be on the bank, a dock or a beach every chance this old man can get away. Keep them coming, they will keep you living.
cargilekm how does your licence work? It's £20 a year for a 2 rod license for coarse fishing in the UK. Also if you fish rivers and canals then there's a wandering license for a similar price . However most people don't buy this one.
cargilekm Hi well we catch and return most fish other than game or sea fish and the old anglers said that chub tasted like cotton wool filled with drawing pins!. Our rod license system costs me about £27 pounds a year for two rods and you can buy day or weekly ones from a post office, I get a concessionary licence. Full cost is a bit more and we have a separate rod licence for trout and migratory game fish ie salmon and sea trout. Of course you have to fund a day ticket or club fee as well which is why I fish free neglected waters so much and enjoy them. Bill
@@UnseenSpirit Here in Washington state the license is $55 for freshwater or saltwater, a combination is $5 more. Then you can get salmon and steelhead crab or clam or shrimp permits. Some at extra fees. The yearly license is good from April to the next march and fish seasons can vary throughout the year and different waters. It is a big pamphlet with all the rules and regulations.
Watch the day after Ciara! A breath of fresh air I can tell you. Bill, is that stream a club water? Or did you seek out the farmer? I’m looking at a smaller stream I use to take my boys to when they were nippers (now47-45!) oh my aching bones!! I do know it’s changed hands a couple of times over the years so I’m going to have my time cut out doing some digging me thinks. Huge thanks for all your time and hard work bringing us these great adventures. Kind regards Clive from deepest Dorset.
Live without plastic bags is better. I use cookies boxes, ice creme boxes and guru boxes. When Ive got plastic bag, I try to use it as long as possible. Cheers. Great movies, great fishes, great fun. Thumbs up.
janusz puneil Hi I re use my carrier bags and freezer bags as much as possible. Some of my freezer bags get re used for a long time. Tackle wise I use a small Drennan visi box as I don’t need much tackle for this sort of fishing. Bill
Good man. That looks clear almost chalky and the fish are outstanding. Oh for a Rivers Authority or some body which could show an interest in keeping these waterways in better condition and able to carry the water. By the way Bill, did someone leave some sticks of dynamite or fireworks on the bank behind you there??
raybede Hi well one of my major hates is land owners who don’t look after their drainage. The local farmer in this case obviously knew to look after his ditches and drainage. A lot don’t . The biggest problem is our housing as the more houses around the more water will be abstracted until river run dry. In my area two have dried up and only contain water during heavy rain water run off. Several have shrunk badly and are badly overgrown which promotes flooding, and several are critical. I do hope there was no dynamite behind me when I fly I prefer to be in a plane! Bill

Nice video thanks... it's so frustrating not being able to get out !
Simon Fox Hi I understand that feeling only to well Bill
loving your videos thankyou

Another great day Bill, don't you just love those chunky chubb in that small stream, cant be beaten mate cheers!
A great video Bill. Long may you keep making them👍
Nice one Bill very enjoyable, 👍
Nice one Bill really enjoyed that proper fishing keep em coming
The little streams around me here in Canada hold exceptional trout. Enjoy your videos.
Tim Murdock Hi well you are lucky there. Some of these streams hold odd brownies but very few and far between, just not the right environment for them. Having said that I know someone caught a big brownies about 4 lbs from a local river and returned it alive. The fish looked stunning in the picture. Bill
Very enjoyable video
It's rewarding to try a new place and catch some fish, when others wouldn't give you a chance 😃
Hands on A big old rubber lips is one of my favourite fish and found in all size rivers and streams. I hope you enjoy your local streams Bill
Love the videos. This one felt more spur of the moment found a spot by the road and had to fish it.
Well done. Great video as usual. Quality fishing in such a small river/stream. A fish is a fish, size isn’t important, it’s time on the bank. Take care pal.
Good to see ya fishing again. Iwent two days ago myself, great time spent out of the house. Cheers.
Great to see you're looking and sounding better in this vid. Lovely little stream and well done with those fish.
Graham Walker Thank you Bill
Your so very interesting, well done and thank you
Bill another amazing video and what a gem of a spot. I take we will see more videos from there 👍🏼 , and for those who say you left a hook what a load of 🤬 . Stay safe and healthy and keep these videos rolling out my friend.
Watch his earlier video he did appear to leave the hook in. Which is understandable if the fish was badly gut hooked, but if it was not then that is unacceptable.
beautiful fish there.. excellent..
Fish on Bill, great video. Look after yourself.
Nice one don't fall in looking for these great little spots! Looks well dodgy lol nice video thanks for sharing
Its surprising what lurks in those waters. Nice bit of fishing
Nice fishing Bill. There's a similar swim near to me, at the bottom of a small weir. I've had some decent fish out of it. Roach, perch & chub. The problem with swims like that is, nobody bothers with them till see they see someone fishing there, then they decide to have a go. So its quite possible next time ou try to fish there, it will be occupied!
thanks very much good video and good fish
Love this bloke, look forward to every upload , some great fish aswell!
That was a brilliant session and video bill, lucky to have a little stream Like This near me to👍🏻
Quality sesh ... , Every day off i've had has been jinxed in some or another by bad weather
colintraveller Thank you. Don’t give up with the weather situation I often don’t get out because while I can fish in the rain I can’t film. Bill
Thanks Bill what an exciting bit of fishing that was brilliant. Could see just how much you were enjoying that. As for the non believers it’s not what we want to hear we know you are a fish friendly fisherman so care on as you are.
Maxine Smyth Hi thank you and yes I did enjoy that session Bill
Cracking video mate , some real nice chub. Cheers
Brilliant and inspirational once more bill i know of a little stre local to me and keep driving past needless to say the next time I'm there I'll have a few bits and a rod and bait too .
Keep up the great work 👍🐟🐟🐟🐟
Andrew Seadon Hi go for it you may strike gold Bill
Good for u mate. really enjoyed this. need to find a stream like this near me 👍
chris lilley Thanks and I’m willing to bet there will be a tiny stream like that near you often hardly visible. When I’m driving if a see any bridge I will stop and look for water and I’ve found some amazing fishing over the years. Mind you some of them have dried up or are plastered with private no fishing signs! Bill
Morning Bill I enjoyed that video may I ask where is that I fancy giving it a go over the weekend
zefram Cochrane Hi it’s just a ditch that feeds the river Flit near Flitwick. Bill
How far is Flitwick from sheffield roughly
@@regjenkinson6247 185 miles ouch!
Reg Jenkinson Hi well I can’t give an exact answer, but at least 2 hours drive. Hence why I don’t get to Yorkshire or any part of northern England . I wish I could because I know there is fabulous fishing and in some parts some stunning scenery to boot! Bill
Reg Jenkinson About 130 miles Bill
Another great session bill love the small streams and rivers well done mate 🎣🎣
Nice one man.. you make it look EASY!
Georgia Bassmasters Hi thank you Bill
excellent as always
Hi Bill great video as usual...could you perhaps show on camera how a link leger works as I’m new to all this.
Many thanks!
I do find it a shame, however, that such a nice fish has Such an unappealing name, “chub.”
Thanks again.
David, South Carolina
huttonista dav Hi I don’t mind the name and I love the fish and they are sort after in the uk. A big fish is a beautiful brassy colour and they will eat anything they can get in their huge mouths, feed in the coldest weather and found in most running water and some lakes. Bill
They used to be called “ chavender” which is a prettier name
Andy Walford I don’t know, Andy, “chav,” might not be such a hot nickname either. LOL
But chavender does have a nice ring to it
Easy Fishing Has anyone ever tried eating the things?
huttonista dav Hi we practise catch n return as we have laws preventing killing fish but we do eat sea and game fish.
IaBarkworm Hi it does work and some of the the ESP anglers use the spool filling method I use, glad you enjoyed the video. Bill
Bill
God bless ya great fishing
Bill
good fishing day well done
Such a joy to watch, lovely Chub.
Are you willing to divulge where this stream is?
anton warren Hi this is a ditch that feeds into the river Flit near Flitwick. Bill
Not watched yet but still liked it . I enjoy your channel mate 👍🏻🎣
Once again you prove that the most unlikely of swims can provide great sport. Judging by your big smiles you enjoyed yourself and that's nice to see. One suggestion attach a disgorger to a length of string around your neck and clip some forceps to your jacket for easy access in tight situations. Well done.
Well done!!
Another great video I love watching ur stuff look forward to it. Have u ever done a video on how u set up ya link ledger rig ta much
craney c Hi yes I have titled, I think, a versatile feeder rig. Bill
G8 video as always bill! Have you tried kempston river?
Good session Bill u made me wanna come too england too fish .
Salute from Australia.
Bill
@@easyfishing1936 Many thanks for explaining that Bill.
@@cargilekm ah I get you. The license we buy starts from the date you choose and then a whole year. Guess it makes more sense this way
@@easyfishing1936 Thanks for replying. I don't often get answers from posters. I appreciate it. My license is $55 to $60 per year.
Clive Newton Hi well I cant access the river other than from that one spot but I’m trying to get access to the rest of it, fingers crossed!! Bill
Bill
Good angling Sir!
Good man. That looks clear almost chalky and the fish are outstanding. Oh for a Rivers Authority or some body which could show an interest in keeping these waterways in better
condition and able to carry the water.
Bill
Congrats bill great session i would have loved to have chucked 1 of my platic lures in there bill great little spot that i was out monday lure fishig had a beautiful 3LB 5 oz perch lots of small perch and pike only 8LB 9oz love the modern plastic liure baits fished on a NED RIG absolutely deadly bill rig only weighed 5 oz love light lure fishing in the winter on my fox rage prisim light lure rod fantastic piece of kit especially using braid 0.6 diameter 10LB breaking strain nothing like braid for bite detecting awesome stuff to use great video bill well fished SIR keep safe bill ALIEN

Congratulation on getting a very big perch they are such a beautiful fish. Incidentally I have heard of the ‘Ned’ rig is that fished weedless? Bill

Would you consider floatfishing with a smaller bait to target other species of fish?
Philip Wordley Hi well I was hoping for roach and dace and didn’t expect chub. In this swim it would have been very difficult to get good presentation with a float. A pole maybe but there was no room to wield the pole. I do float fish in small streams and have done a couple of video’s one using running line and one with a 4 mtr whip. Bill
