Well that was a topsy turvy session for sure. I can manage decent bream and roach etc, but I am going to do something differently next time. I want to get down there a bit earlier and put some bait in on the longer line and fish a short line for a couple of hours to give the fish time to settle and get their heads down. The pattern has been a big fish or two then smaller fish so I think they are spooking. The trouble is that if I fish a short line with lighter tackle and punch or maggots I'm bound to hook a tench and then loose it!! I intend to introduce more particles on the long line to encourage the bigger fish to stay before I start fishing for them. I might even put some groundbait in in an effort to hold those bigger fish. Bill
Easy Fishing “ I went fishing yesterday in pouring rain caught a 1.1lb bream (my biggest bream) on a grain of sweet corn with a waggler float on the Basingstoke canal and then caught 3 roach on bread punch”
If anything I’ve had better luck with hemp and corn then groundbait on the embankment, considering fishing a maggot feeder this week to switch things up and then a sort line with a big worm
Hi fella wow your channel has grown from the last time I was here, that's great to see you deserve it for all the hard work you put in fair play tight lines
Hello, It is almost a pleasure to watch someone else endure the types of mishap that I have, although i’ve not lost a lens todate. Luckly there is a tackle shop on hand, my latest was to put a broken landing net handle in the hold-all and the good one in a corner for repair. Empty bait boxes is a favourite. Saying all this, you were once again an example to us all with your fortitude, oh yes a bream of that size, a disaster…….surely not. I must Thank Any Body, in your comments, for the idea of a checklist, I have put one on my Phone, a great idea till I forget the Phone. Stay safe
Bill. I walk my dog over that bridge most days and never knew the river held such decent fish. I have seen people fishing there before but have never seen anyone catch anything substantial such as that fine looking bream. Great educational video
Hi well I have been fishing this river for over 35 years and the amount of people who are amazed at what is in there is surprising. I hope it helps people appreciate the beautiful river Bill
Hi Bill... I have fished that stretch of the Embankment for the past 40 years. But have not been blessed with any Bream or Tench for many many years. Never seem to able get pass the water cabbage these days. May be the pole is the way to go on the river. Would love to see a video on how the fish the deep river with pole tactics explained. It’s good to see the Bleak making a come back and in turn the Perch are getting bigger. Take care and kind regards.
Hi well been fishing that stretch for 35 years and it holds a lot of quality fish The short pole is the way to go and you need between 6 and 8 metres and they are affordable. You do need to get past the cabbage beds and that is where the channel starts in most swims. If you really hate poles you are stuck with feeder fishing, which is problematic! Also very few big fish feed in bright sunlight until the winter. Even then a dull day is much better. Most of my big fish have come during the dusk or dawn period. The river has loads of bream some very big, plus tench, carp, perch and odd solitary chub. If I could only use one bait it would be chopped worms. To tackle the very deep sections is a subject I will cover later Bill
We have all done it. I drove 12 miles to a venue to find I had left all my bait and wallet and sun glasses on the kitchen table. What a wasted trip. Nice session Bill.
Lovely catches though. Lovely big slab. Nice roach, and you don’t see many dace like that these days. Bit busy that swim though 😖. I hope the jogger sincerely apologised. Nice work as always bill
Sometimes that's just how it goes. Sorry to hear about the breakage. However through adversity persistence does pay off and who knows you might have been forced into using the right bait. Can't beat the old favourites for quality. Great comments on river bream, very different to their still water counterparts. Hope you don't mind me asking; is that the Ouse in Bedford town centre?. Last fished there with my school angling club 43 years ago!
Mr Allen, your videos are entertaining and informative, I recognise a few locations around the Gt Ouse in Bedford as I fished there as a boy, but it would be a welcome addition if you could give some info about other locations, club or day ticket and prices etc ..... thank you.
Hi well when I fish club waters I am unable to give much information as there is a publicity ban, but most of my fishing is done on free or day ticket venues open to all. Publicity can be bad as anglers chase around after big fish and swamp waters, leave litter etc and get fishing stopped. A good example happened this year when a free venue local to me has had fishing banned after an ' angler' abused the owners wife! Bill
Well Bill we have all done it, I turned up to fish the river in winter minus my rods and landing net luckily my mate lent me a ledger rod and I emmediately caught two huge chub on bread flake in 5 minutes much to his annoyance. Maybe I should forget them more often ? How do you put up with all those folk so close when you are fishing? I strive to find places where the public can not go, then of course the fishing isn't always so good. Lovely bream by the way thgat tench is only the mext trip away..............
@@easyfishing1936 Now add free swimmers to the list of folk that spoil a days fishing. Couldn't believe it yesterday on the Thames, have never had it before and thought I had selected a peaceful area. Oh hum !

That was certainly a lovely slab Bill, I've always called them "Snotty's" for obvious reasons, lol. A great shame about your camera lens, and leaving your maggots at home, most annoying to say the least. Thank you for a lovely short video.
Love the videos bill and hope your well.. not seen you making vids latley .. all the best... you could've spoke to that fella.. hope he didn't kiss your cam 😂

Even when it's going wrong Bill you still make it look easy, 3 magnificent specimens there, well done and every film is a joy to watch 👍
Thank you very much. I just wanted to get a decent river tench on camera but no luck yet. Bill

Just like me! I write a shopping list, then lose it when I get to the Tesco!! Bill
Nice Bream Bill, thanks for sharing check and double check your kit and check again next time ! That’s what I do, good luck in search of the tench

All been there. I normally leave myself a note of bits I need to take. But the big bream made up for it and that roach was a beauty too.
Very nice Bream Bill it was one of them days which every one of us have from time to time thanks for sharing 🐟👍
