I replaced relays fuses was gonna add freon but compressor wasn't coming on. That sensor on my nissan wasn't even plugged in. I did plug in in after removing the glove box piece. It came on after I plugged it in. Had to add freon. I NOW HAVE ICE COLD AIR. You are the bomb Sir.. I owe you a steak dinner. I got this truck from my brother 3 years ago. Never had cold air in it until now. Thanks for sharing.

I actually ended up just bypassing this sensor. Being in West Texas, there's no chance of freeze up down here. Thanks for the tip and method of testing. A/C has been running great since watching this video to figure out my issue.

    Hi Oz,
Nice video you posted. I have a Nissan Tsuru 2006 here in Mexico (almost equivalent to 1993 U.S. Sentra). the problem I have is that air coming out the vents is too cold and compressor sometimes cycles on and off, and sometimes it doesn't.
When it doesn't, air flow gets reduced substantially and it is not as cold as before. I turn the compressor off manually and air smells like when one used to defrost old refrigerators. Once air flow gets back to normal I turn on compressor and everything's working fine.
According to service manual, my evaporator is freezing up and the "Thermo control amplifier" may not be working. I did today what you just described, cracked open the evaporator enclosure and saw inside what looks like the entire Thermo control amplifier stuck between the evaporator fins to be held in place. It looks like it is the entire module because the cable going to it has three conductors and the sensor is part of the body of the module. The manual I got says that the module is outside the evaporator enclosure and only the thermistor along with its two conductor cable goes inside, just like yours.
I didn't dare to stick my hand inside because I feared I could damage the enclosure. Could you stick your whole hand inside? the module is still like 6 to 10 inches away from the enclosure opening.
Anyway, I appreciate your posting this video. I presume this is the only one so far that describes the situation I faced today.
Thanks Oz, keep up the good work.
    Rafael

Nice example of troubleshooting! Good "older" car that you can actually reach things "easier".

Thanks for this. I was driving home from Bakersfield last week, 110 degrees in Bako, and the AC on my 2011 pathfinder just stopped blowing cold air. All fuses are OK. I don't think I'll attempt this one (I try to do my own work) but at least I'll know something to suggest so the shop doesn't do things like the dealership facilities do.

So if my compressor clutch is clicking on and off could it still be my thermo control amplifier ? I have same 03 xterra "same color lol" blowing hot air.

2007 Nissan Frontier sat a long time in line at Dairy Queen, rather warm day. A/C started blowing warm air and heat gauge was up Abit. Turned off AC and temp went down. Turned engine off twice but it was still hot. Does the AC shut down if it sits at idle very long, on a hot day? Very weird. After I got out of there, turned AC on and it seemed to work fine, engine temp came down. What is this about?

I have a 2001 Nissan xterra. The AC will work on defrost, but when you switch it back to vent the clutch turns off. Could it be the control panel that is not working?

I engaged the diagnostic mode. Relay is responding, compressor responding, fans responding, replaced the ac pressure switch and it's still now blowing cold. Actually now the passenger side is cooler but driver still warm. HELP!

2009 Nissan pathfinder started having AC issues in 2014. Problems include: AC taking as long as 5-10 minutes to feel cool. Also the only way it becomes cool is if I'm driving 40mph +. Please help

I’m no expert, but I’ve had that issue with a bmw and it turned out to be the electric fan wasn’t kicking in when I turned on the a/c so it literally needed to be driven a certain speed so the little a/c radiator in the front of the car can dissipate the heat properly. I’d check out the cooling fan or fans on the front of the radiator. Good luck!

  • @acetim6592

So what could be the problem if the clutch isn't clicking and the cooling fans do not run? FYI the ac switch works normally, the refrigerant is on specified level, tried to change the IPDM but the problem is still there... please advise.

i AM WORKING ON A Frontier, I have what is called a Thermo control amp. It has three wires going to it, my allldata indicates that when it's operating, the one hot wire should make the other tow hot. It's located in the same place, at least the three wires enter the evap housing through a similar hole. Alldata diagrams for this car suck. one diagram shows the M60 connector having three terminals, another shows 2. I have jumped the three wires and nothing happens. I have jumped the pressure switch, nothing, alldata says when it's running, the pressure switch is 0 volts back to the ECM....I don't believe that is correct.
It's not National Auto tech network, It's International Automotive Technicians Network. It is a good site, but you need to be a member to search the data base. If you're a professional it's worth the money.
Thanks for the video, I was just looking for a silver bullet that more or less goes step by step. I know the compressor is good, jumped the relay, I know the relay is good, swapped it with the horn and it blows. I have tried the pressure switch jumped and disconnected, my Snap-On scanner says it's "off", it says no signal on another pid.
The air blows cold now and then, mostly not. I have a gut feeling it's the amp in the box. I might just load the parts cannon and fire it. I'm tired of dicking with this truck. I have an auto electric and driveability shop, I'm 69 and work along, my patience ain't what it used to be.

This is a complicated circuit to you? I'm not being an ass but that's probably one of the better/easier diagrams I've seen for a thermal control, great video though I think the harder part is actually locating the darn components in a car I didn't know where that intake sensor was, I would normally think the air Intake too so thanks for the leg work
