Watching this 5y atf ... your soldering skills have obviously greatly improved. And your descriptions of the problem and fix are quite a bit more basic with a bit more theory, etc. I found it actually more fascinating, and more helpful (even though I don't have any plans to ever work on boards...lol) for the noob that I am. This is what comes from beer virus lockup and an idle mind. :-O
    Nice

Just ran across you on the kdenlive forum after seeing a couple of your camera videos. Cool! Btw I've got kdenlive, gimp, inkscape, and audacity working on my phone if you are interested in a rundown, they're pretty easy to configure for a smaller screen.

Use enameled magnet wire for trace repairs. it makes life allot easier for fine pitch trace repairs, im suprised for someone that was in the studio/audio industry you havent decided to try this already! :)

Just came over from one of the recent live streams to see this for myself after you talked about it. All I can say is... Why?... what?... How? Lol. I'm surprised this battery/laptop didn't literally explode when the person plugged it into the wall. O.o

Hi Louis, these are the videos that I really love! you clearly show and explain all 3 steps, schematics, troubleshooting, chip repair. Great stuff.
I have macbook air 2012 with same issue.. works lovely but doesn't charge the battery..(it even runs from battery but no charging it) after your video I immediately start measuring the current sensor circuit however in my case everything looks ok.. do you thing it's a bad ISL? any other ideas?
    Thank you

I think this battery - wall outlet scenario is for a 12V DC in power supply such as a Solar Source, without an inverter.

Another great informative video. I feel like Im learning something when you say something and I can point it out on the diagram before you show it.
Also question Louis Rossmann would it have been beneficial to solder the jumper wires while the ISL chip was off? Or would the jumpers move when reapplying the ISL chip.

Hey Louis, amazing videos, I am not in the repairing industry but sometimes I repair some basic things in my house, I have very basic questions: Which element you use for soldering, I only know tin, but this is like a transparent liquid.

He uses leaded solder, which is a tin/lead alloy. The clear stuff he is using copious amounts of is called flux - there's a wiki page that'll explain what that is to you: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flux_%28metallurgy%29

Hi Louis, first of all, thanks for your absolutely amazing videos ! They are so inspirational and I gladly remove my AdBlock Plus to watch the ads on your latest videos. I have a little question for you : I have a A1278 logic board with the same problem as here, battery not charging but computer is OK. So I made some measurements at some points and I'm getting 12,2V on pins 1, 2, 3 (PPVBAT_G3H_CHGR_R) of Q7055 and 11,4V on pin 4 (CHGR_BGATE). As it's written 12,6V on the schematics, am I good with 12,2V ? And on pin 5 I'm getting virtually nothing (dropping from around 5V to 0V) so that's why my battery isn't charging. Do I have a bad Gate voltage on my resistor or is it safe to say that my Q7055 has to be replaced ? Thanks for these 2 answers !

If I take the ISL6259 out of a A1370, will it work in an A1425?
Also, where did you suggest getting trash boards from again?

Hey Louis! I have an iMac 27" a1312, had the video card replaced by the apple recall but it still wont "give me a dong" it has power on all the rails and even the cpu core rails but i noticed my sense resistor (GPU MXM) SMC_GPU_VSENSE is pushing out ~12v and my SMC_GPU_ISENSE is not. A SC70 (U5360) resistor is between those. Would that be something i should definitely replace? Ill be ordering a donor board today in any case. Thanks
