Thank you to everyone who made a purchase on eBay via our affiliate link at rossmanngroup.com/ebay for helping support this type of content. Your viewership is appreciated and as always, I hope you learned something!
Thank you Louis for spending the time and money to make these videos! It's very helpful to watch and learn your troubleshooting process in action
Honestly i only started watching your video's a week or so ago, but i am already enjoying them way more than i thought i would. Thanks for the educational entertainment.
I wish we had people like you in Stockholm, Sweden. My macbook broke last month and when i left it at the repair shop all they said was "logic board is broken, replace it all, and keyboard is broken, replace topcase" total cost $1000. People here don't even try to repair stuff, they look at it and then replace everything.
Louis .. Your video's are so inspiring. You helped me feel a lot more comfortable about doing what im doing .. I am now saving a much, much higher percentage of boards and chips because of your videos, info and expertise.. Thank you for keeping things real and being so $%'ing informative :) . You have a way of making things seem easy when it might be insanely complicated to understand.. I love the challenge of this job field. I would love to make a video showing some of the things i have learned from you. Thank you again! Rock on.
Nothin Thank you! Would love to see that video.
+Louis Rossman because of your videos i feel more confident handling smd boards now. I've just repaired a toshiba laptop with a shorted +5USBVCC. But im still afraid on taking voltage measurement because i might short something. i am good in soldering thou. because it's just what i do when repairing "not using the full capacity of my brain" hehe. i am currently self studying reading laptop schematics because you inspired me. i dont want to be a scam technician. keep sharing!
Sadly all out of focus since roughly 26:00
Thanks for the insights anyway, very interesting. Somehow really relaxing to watch you work under the microscope :D
I can't actually see the microscope camera as I am recording.
Buy me an HDMI splitter and VESA mount 1080p monitor so I can see focus in real time as I work. Mailing address is

45:37-45:45 My new ringtone. Also awesome video! Thank you.
you call your self shit at soldering. I call bollocks. lol your fucking ace at it. stop putting your self down . the way you do it. is an art
thanks to spend all the money for us to learn bro:)
I've seen allot people attempt to repair connectors and scrape too far down into the board and get a nice surprise when the finish soldering and power up.
Good video,
I check the amtech site I have little confuse, you tell us you used Amtech nc559-v2-tf on the amtech site have 2 different.
that number
Tacky paste flux (this one you used )
NC-559-TF
Solder paste
NC-559-V2
I don't found the full number nc559-v2-tf just separed number NC-559-tf or NC-559-v2 I know you used quality product
I know you don't have time for stupid questions, but I learn good content from you, I take all yours tips I bought the machines you used or recommend to used for do a pro work, I have all the soft you used take me time to setup on the right way, you are the technician I found on TH-cam teach on the good way and all the time I feel the true from you.
I work very hard to start that work for my life, because I love it what I do. I spend all the money I had in the bank to reach my goal, Here in Canada is not like in USA all is very difficult to buyed so many restrictions And plus 400% expensive prices. I REALLY APPRECIATE ALL THE WORK YOU DO, YOU NEVER IMAGEN HOW MUCH YOU HELPME WITH YOUR VIDEOS.
Thanks
NC-559-V2-TF is the flux I use. Some Amtech stuff is getting discontinued so hard to find anywhere.
I am really glad that you have benefited from this content!
Thanks Louis, is true I checked is discontinued the spec now is the amtesh is NC-559-TF.
Thank you to the both of you! I'm outside of the US and i mainly buy things from ebay. Does the NC-559-ASM the same as NC-559-TF? Thanks guys.
Good enough. It's the same shit to me.
Cool, you rock dude.
Awesome video great teacher, thanks.
thank you
Another great and educational vid
Thank you
have ever thought of having a comedy show along side repairing mb etc ha ha
Louis your videos are amazing. Thank you for actually giving back and helping the little people. I have a MacBook Pro A1278 that boots and I hear the chime. Nothing on screen and no backlight. But I get video out from mini dv port. I opened the back and the LCD connector is burnt. Is it possible to send me the schematic and board view so I can attempt to replace and jump the burnt traces. Thanks in advance.
Hey Louis can a missing LVD connector cut the power on a board
I'm glad that we went over one of these at my training with you because just last week I had a MBP that got wet and burned 2 of the legs on the lvds conn. I didn't dare plug it in with 2 missing/burned legs. I used my "newly" trained skill from the "master" and the board now has an image. I even remembered not to get too much solder on the front so it wouldn't fill in the conn. Also do you think it's necessary to put it back into the crest USC again after replacing lvds? So before and after? Or just replace lvds and then put whole thing in USC once? Also the parting "gift" you gave me didn't have the schematics for this board so I had to hope the missing pads didn't matter and luckily they didn't.
+Jordan Wires I usually replace the connector then UC afterwards. I prefer less cleaning. I replace what I should replace then UC when done. I flux and heat the areas with corrosion then wipe with clean room wiper and alcohol so I can work in that area before UCing.
new year and new board:)
Hey Louis Great video. What Scopes do you use ?
Protons don't move, positively charged means the lack of electrons :P Negatively charged means that more electrons than protons are present around an atom. Is this right?
The thing about the schematic is that they are many sources and how to choose which one. They can’t be all good
You are doing amazing things man! I followed your videos and i cleaned my destroyed macbook air (water damage), i cleaned it good, i let it dry, now all is working great eccept one thing, the screen even though it is on, i mean with light and all, it flickers all the time! its like it is going on and of all the time! From system preferences the screen is not listening the light dimmer... As far as i can see from your videos, it must me a chip.. What do you think it is my mess?
billis Some corroded shit somewhere, replace corroded shit.
Louis Rossmann Ok! i am on to it, in which area i should be searching? i mean a special chip or something? This screen flickering it was the first thing the macbook suffered from the liquid (milk..)
Did that BGA rework machine ever pay for itself? I think I've only ever seen you use it once.
hell no
th-cam.com/video/kq5yBog8Clk/w-d-xo.html
When I first saw that machine I thought it was some kind of automated balling machine.
If I were in it as deep as you I'd pay $7000 to never have to hand place balls on a chip.
Props to Jess' 81 pin Pyramid reball video, as I think about it.
Another fucking great video I will be watching again and again. Is there anyway you could PLEASE do a video on an iPad 3/4 FPC digitizer connector replacement?? Probably a simplistic repair and I know I have asked before, but there is NOTHING worth while I can find on the web. OR should I just apply these same techniques used in this video for the repair??
It's the same idea.
may i ask what is that machine with the Poland spring water on top?
Agilent 6542 bench power supply, I finally managed to kill the Lenovo I use to check for shorts. :(
Darn that sucks
It was an excuse to upgrade. The Lenovo could drive a 0 ohm short though which is more than I can say for this thing. :(
You can also use knife type tip, to fast and efficient desoldering smd resistors and capacitors, (one time touch both side of component) if only You have enough room on board ;)
And I got a question. Did You used flux AMTECH NC-559-ASM? It's cheap shit from eBay. If yes - can You compare it to NC-559-V2-TF?
Respects from Poland!
I have ASM here that I have not opened yet. I have been using V2-TF which is damn near impossible to find this entire time. I will try it next go and tell you how it is.
Louis Rossmann
I heared, that ASM smells like shit, and fucks brain when you breathe it. - but I don't know if it is true.
I have Kingbo RMA-218 and it is bubbling shit, and it fuck brain. I have 20W duct fan with a flexible pipe for desmoking my place, and Kingbo fuck my brain, (fucked brain - that means I have i headache etc.), but You can do job good with Kingbo (reballing, BGA rework etc.)
Respects from Poland!
king bo is garbage and useless IMO
ALL flux fucks your brain, get a fume extractor. For the time being I use a Hakko FA-430.
Louis Rossmann
I said, that "I have 20W duct fan with a flexible pipe for desmoking my place", end of pipe is outside the window, so it works pretty well ;)
I don't know if You even read my whole post, but maybe You are too tired.
But as always - thank You for Your time, attention, response and respects from Poland!
P.S. Also in 1st post i gave You a tip, how to fast & easy desolder SMDs, without thermotweezers - and I don,t know even if You read it too :P - it may be useful for You.
where are you locate so you can't fix my macbook A1181 that have broken fan cable
+pavel1809 I think He is NewYork and its flat rate last i know of $350
2 much money only to fix one cable omg
+pavel1809 Hes not fixing the cable he is fixing the cable socket which is a higher level of repair , your better of getting a new system unless your current system is very expensive.
ok i will try to fix it by my self thank you
+pavel1809 also you should get a quote from him I could be wrong I am not affiliated
Don't worry I say Solder instead of Solder too
Open Source didn't mean shit my friend :)
The correct pronunciation IS "sodder". People will think you're strange if you pronounce it like it's spelled.
Like the UK guys? LOL
I will WALK out HALFway through this video and never TALK to you again, if you decide to abandon your proud American heritage and stop saying SOLDER in our own natural language. Sole-der? Barf. Don't you dare. Nice job on your connector.
:) This brought a smile to my face.
im scared to do this, im just 15 but i dont want to spend more money to my parents :(
A piece of Open Source crap? It's Open Source, fix the problem.
+Mickey Kincaid Not to mean that you aren't one of the best repair experts on the internet in my opinion.
+Mickey Kincaid That'd make a hell of a slogan. Louis Rossman makes soldering ZING!
who cares. sodder, solder no matter where you go either way you say it someone will say opposite so f them.
You obviously have no idea what your doing
**You're
Louis Rossmann
and this video is not about grammar.
Mike Mundell
You can't type a post to a 1st grade level of English and you're criticizing component level board rework.
