Finally, first time covering a Playstation game here on Lost Bits, and what better game to start with the ICONIC PS1 title: Crash Bandicoot! I never really played the original Crash Bandicoot, so this was all new ground for me!

The Ying Yang Yuk was from a previous game of Naughty Dog's called Way of The Warrior. Collecting Ying Yang Yuks in Crash Bandicoot would have eventually unlocked a fighting mini-game, presumably based on Way of The Warrior.
I remember a show called Yin Yang Yo, and one of the episodes was titled Yin Yang Yuck.
And it was ment to give you 1000 wumpas btw

The bloody yin yang is a symbol from the game Way of the Warrior. A much earlier Naughty Dog release. it's probably the worst fighting game of all time.

Yeah, I know. I was not exactly being serious with the AVGN references.
I've never played Way of the Warrior, though I do know of it; Pit FIghter is one of those games that should of stayed ab arcade exclusive because that's where it saw true success. Yes, that was almost a thing for Pit Fighter, and Street Fighter as well.
(yeah-the ports for SF were way better, with one exception that doesn't need any further mentioning...lol)

This one takes the cake as the best/most complete look at Crash 1’s early/cut content. There’s some info I never heard of before, like the Japan-exclusive tracks and the cut lava level (can someone please finish and mod this and the other cut levels?) Keep up the good work :D

If you told kid me, that I'd eventually be sitting in my room, playing an early pre-beta build of Crash Bandicoot, I'd call you crazy. But, that's what I'm doing. Also got the E3 build, as well as an early E3 build of Tomb Raider 1. It's bananas to me that that's even possible.

Assumed this level was built with older ID. After game build updated, arranged, or changed that ID for effect like player[1], air[mc], fruits[2], items[3,4,5,6,7,8], enemy, effects, and trigger scripts, even more. ID can go up to 64, 128, or 255 entities due to low-bits memory limitations.
This old level on new game version thinking lava are hard floor, and plants are lava. Other conflicted effects probably cause your game crashed.
The Yin Yang Yuk icon is also a reference to Naughty Dog’s own Way of the Warrior on 3DO. (Also published by Universal Interactive!)

when you do old beta builds, like the title screens for example, can you do a side-by-side comparison of the old build vs retail build so that viewers can get a good idea of how the game has changed in that aspect, especially for those who haven't played said game? just a suggestion :)

The ending of the unused crash spin animation can be seen when you spin in the final, as he snaps back to neutral podition, suggesting that maybe this was his early spin move.
finally a good ending for one scrapped level at least :) i seriously love it when scrapped concepts like these get a second chance, always brings a tear to my eye

you know the E3 demo had some major differences with the stages. Some of the bridge stages had more evil placements for crates. and Whole Hog was near impossible. Also the E3 build was the first build to have the gems in it

It looks like something from a Sonic.EXE game
Huge difference between the capabilities of the NES and N64, so that's why the Super Mario Bros. Game Over screen is so basic. And the N64 had so much more Capability for a good Game Over screen and could have even made a 3D Game Over Screen!
