    This Barca team was perfection. The whole 2010-11 season was a footballing masterclass. And the best thing happened at the end when Xavi and Puyol gave the captain's armband to Abidal and let him lift the CL trophy first because he just had recovered from liver cancer and had surgery. More than a club!

    I think with how Spain won the World Cup it’s fair to say that the rest of those players in Barcelona’s team where all top drawer players, however I do feel that Messi was the main reason Barcelona won all that they did. Messi was in his absolute prime back then, and it was a joke how good he was. The guy was completely unplayable..

    • @sshszn
      @sshszn 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Respect what your saying but messi didn’t have a prime. Nor he still doesn’t. In 2012 he scored 91 goals. Last season 18/19 was his most most most most complete ever. And this season he until the break completed double the dribbled he’s ever did. Double!! That being said messi was injured from summer this season all the way until December. And he also played 2 months in muscle discomfort because Barcelona only had 13 members from the first team available. It’s crazy.

    • @MANUTD4LIFE171
      @MANUTD4LIFE171 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      SSH SZN Everyone has a prime or a peak, and Messi’s best year was without a doubt 2012. 91 goals he scored that year, his next best being 2010 when he scored 60.
      The rest of his career he has generally been in the 50s. Still a ridiculous effort to score 50 goals in a season, so I’m not in any way trying to disrespect that, as even to this day I still think he is playing like one of the greatest players of all time. CR7 is the only other player in history who has consistently scored more than 50 a season, or in a calendar year.
      So yeah Messi is still an amazing player today and deserved the Ballon Dor this year, but for me he is knowhere near as good as the player I seen in 2012. I have honestly never seen a player play aswell as Messi did that year, and I don’t think il ever see any player get to that level again.
      The difference between Messi now and back then, was the electric acceleration and pace he had back then. As is to be expected with any footballer, you’re always gonna be slower once you hit you’re 30s.
      It just shows how great he is though, that an ageing Messi can still be the best player in the world.

    • @sshszn
      @sshszn 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That’s not true what so ever. Not when the name is Leo Messi. Again if you ask every Barcelona fan whom watch him week in week out as I do, it’s virtually divided between last season being 18/19 and some who say the 91 goal a year messi. There’s also a Small minority who will also mention 2015. Messi is still in his prime and will be for a few more years. He’s the same way since 2015.

    • @MANUTD4LIFE171
      @MANUTD4LIFE171 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      SSH SZN I watch Barcelona near enough every week, as they are on the tele every week. So no need to make assumptions that you watch every game and I don’t.
      When Messi can score 91 goals in a calendar year, or even get close to that again, then il start changing my opinion that he is still at his peak. But for now il stick with my opinion.

    • @sshszn
      @sshszn 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      MANUTD4LIFE171 Never made a assumption idk why you just got all in your feelings but if goals define peak for you so be it and like I said at the start I respect your opinion yet what messi did last year was the most a single person has done for any club. He’s been unfortunately carrying us since 2016 but last season was truly special. Just take a look at statistics or game play and maybe you’ll change your opinion. But either way I think we can agree on him being the greatest to ever play right?

      You can replace any other player or manager (as long as it’s not a drastic change) and the system will still function. Puyol, Pique, Busquets, Iniesta, even Messi (the Spanish team were very successful in this era). Even managers like Rijkaard, Guardiola and Enrique (although their systems differed they still has success).
      But the one irreplaceable component is Xavi.
      Xavi IS tiki-taka. There is no coincidence that the rise and the fall of tiki-taka correlated to the heights and decline of Xavi (which happened due to age).

    Would a team with Iniesta, Xavi and Messi have won titles regardless of the coach? YES! Even my dog would've managed that Barca and have won things and I don't even have a dog lol. The real question is: would someone else have made them play the way they did and bring up the utmost of those players potential? NO! Put Mourinho, Ancelotti, Benitez or any other top manager at the time and they would make that team a winning machine (each in their own style), but only Pep could make the Catalunia team play total football. He had the guts to bench YYT for a young Busquets and to sell Etoo (didn't agree at the time), it's true that buying Ibra was a mistake but he corrected that by signing Villa (the best Spanish striker I've seen play). The guy beat Sir Alex Ferguson TWICE! People may critize him for his choice of clubes to manage but you can't deny his ability as a coach. Tiki-taka only worked because of the players chacteristics and skill but it also only worked because Pep USED the system. Last, I'd like to point out once again how important it was to make Busquets a starter in tha team, people tend to leave him out when mentioning Barca's success, wish he could get more recognition.

    Pep was key for Iniesta. He wasn't really played a lot in centre midfield before Pep came. Just before Pep was coach Guilem actually described Iniesta as the perfect Sub. The perfect number 12. He wasn't first choice. Neither was Xavi until he was 25/26 years old. They flourished with Pep as coach. Same with Messi. He wasnt played centrally that much if at all until Pep came.

    I’m not saying that Pep is not a good manager. But a manager is only as good to a certain degree as the players at his disposal are. Look at his first season at City. That is the only time he hasn’t had the best players domestically, and it is the only time he hadn’t won a trophy. Messi, along with Xavi & Iniesta, would have succeeded regardless of who was in the dug out. They proved it both sides of Pep’s time there.

      Yes but you need a conductor to put everything together again and that was Pep.
      Because Xavi and Iniesta were there before ans they underachieved season before…
      Pep arrived and pulled all the right strings getting rid of Ronaldinho, promoting Messi to be a main star and injecting Cryuff’s vision back at Camp Nou.
      Yes without Xavi & Iniesta that would be not possible… but every puzzle just matched perfectly since Pep arrived.

Their success was was there because most players were of their academy they played together from their youth so they know ones weakness and greatness I would say Messi was lucky to be honest even though he's great he's the cherry for that already magnificent cake
