ROSINANTE CORAZON not to mention how he was instrumental in making football the game it is today. That man doesn’t get the respect he deserves up with the greats
Surprised Cruyff wasnt mentioned.. He had a football style named after him, and had a turn named after him. Vertically made Barcelona who they are.. His football brain was ahead of time..
Cruyff was an exceptional player. The word technical is overused in Football, but his technique was flawless & graceful. You wouldn’t see Cruyff doing any knuckleball freekicks which only work with contemporary beachballs. Or doing 6 step overs, one would suffice with maybe a feint.
Who else agrees that Lionel Messi is the most complete player ever because he combines goal scoring, assists, play making, passing and dribbling all together brilliantly whilst Cristiano Ronaldo is the most complete goal scorer ever because he has 100+ right foot goals, 100+ left footed goals, 100+ headed goals, 100+ outside the box goals and 50+ free kicks as well as 50+ hat tricks, this alongside their consistency, individual awards, records and statistics alone proves why we are all lucky to have lived in the era of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, two of the greatest players to have graced the world of football.
No, messi isn't the most complete player ever because he isn't a great defender. Di stefano, Cryuff, Pele etc. were more complete than him. There have been multiple players who were good at those criterias at the same time messi isn't the only one. Pele and Puskas are way better goalscorers than Ronaldo.
7:55 When Messi has scored 2 times more goals than you and has 4 times more assists. More goals for his country and 3 times more trophyes whit his club. But people repeat like broken record ,,But Maradona won WC, But Maradona made Napoli champions" . So? 2 great seasons compared to 15! Messi has been so far ahead of everyone else for a while now but people LOVE romanticising the past saying: "Oh but he could have been so good if he didn't have personal problems , Oh but he won 3 WC , oh But he scored more goals in the CL"! No! Its a TEAM SPORT ! How many World Cups you win has NOTHING to do whit how good you are overall. Carrying your teams to 2 trophies does NOT compare to carrying it to 34! This debate is ridiculous. He is winning his 7th Ballon'dor this year. Show me 1 person whit anywhere close and THEN we talk.
he has no chance of winning the ballondor this year. no chance. ronaldo is the goat. messi stayed in the comfort zone his whole career surrounded by the best club team in the history of club football for most of it. ronaldo did it at international level, multiple leagues, languages, and countries. ronaldo cr7 is the goat. anyone who knows anything about football knows that.
No he didn't, Argentina had the best defense in 86, they only conceeded 5 goals the whole tournament and 2 of those in the last 15 mins of the final. That is such a lazy argument, it also romanticizes the fact he cheated.
That's one of the biggest false myths. Maradona was brilliant but he had plenty of help. Valdano, Burruchaga, Braun - others players chipped in at important moments.
Yup. He got injured but he did play in the tournament so he's deservedly got a winners medal. Remember a certain Cr7 got injured against France in the euro final and his team won the final without him and his fans will tell you Messi doesn't have a international trophy so Ronaldo is better.
I watched a documentary about 15-16 years ago & one of the Brazilian old coaching staff from the 58 & 62 World Cups stated how Garrincha was way more talented than Pelé & rightly so btw. Sometimes people get lucky & some don’t get what they truly deserve.
Di Stefano has to be in there. Yes it was the 50s, but Winning 5 Champions League titles in a row scoring 8 goals in those five finals is mental!! Crazy thing was he was the orchestrator in midfield, he scored 8 goals in 5 finals playing in Xavi position 😂
I'll throw in a few names just as food for thought Garrincha - He, more than Pele or any other Brazilian, represented the Brazilian "Zinga" and is the first player to win a world cup on his own Alfredo Di Stefano - 5 European cups in a row with Real Madrid. He could play anywhere and in any system Ferenc Puskas - the jewel in the crown of the all conquering Hungarian side (The Magical Magyars). Also won European cup with Madrid. Had a wand of a left foot Johan Cruyff - for me, the single most influential person in football and hence, for me, the greatest ever player. He was the Crown Jewel of Ajax and Oranje's total football. He totally transformed Barcelona with his vision which led to their great "Pep era". His influence will last for generations
Johan Cruyff is the most underrated great player and for me Messi and Cruyff are the greatest ever. They are both similar to each other. For example: 1. Messi and Cruyff both had that extraordinary penalty 2. They both lost a World Cup final against Germany 3. They are both passing and dribbling masters 4. They both made Barcelona a great team
When Madrid won 5 EC's in a row it wasn't the same competition. It was a competition introduced by Uefa and many countries didn't even have any representation. When talking about how many European Cups or Champion's Leagues a club has won I award Real Madrid 8 wins NOT the 13 they have.
We definitely take the fact that Messi and CR7 have been at their peak for over a DECADE for granted. In my opinion, no matter how talented and magical a player is, consistency is key, and Messi and CR7 are easily the 2 GREATEST OF ALL TIME. 🐐⚽️🏅
Try staying in fit when you get legbreakerz week in week out. It's easy to say consistency when healthcare, sports nutrition and sports science is advanced. And you say consistent. 0 trophies in 15 years for argentina, 0 goals outside group stage of w c and 0 games in 4 finals...
Ketan Patel, staying healthy also requires dedication from the player to limit/avoid drinking, partying, unhealthy foods, etc. Many players such as R9, Ronaldinho, and Maradona were EXTREMELY talented as players, but their off-field antics SEVERELY shortened their careers. Messi and CR7 have won numerous UEFA Champions League’s, Legaue titles, Ballon D’Or’s, Golden Boots, etc. If you don’t think Messi and CR7 aren’t the 2 GREATEST of all time, I respect your opinion. However, Messi and CR7 have been extremely CONSISTENT, winning trophies, smashing records, and dominating football for WELL OVER a decade now. They spend their money wisely on personal trainers, personal chefs, Doctors, etc. This allowed them to play to their fullest potential.
@@ashblitz6595 yeah but drinking wasnt the reason r9 got injured..and besides when the playing field is levelled in international football cr7 and messi for the last 15 years have been above average at best...maradona r9 hands down better than cr7 and messi when at their peaks
@@ashblitz6595 and as for dedication a year before wc 2002 . R9 had 5 players round him in training saying hes finished. Questions were asked is he going to play football again? 1 year later he scored 2 in the final. Every game apart from 1 and won thevworld cup something cr7 and messi cant do despite having careers spanning 15 years plus..
My list : 1. Pele (based more on hearsay and World Cup titles) 1.Messi (not just a great goalscorer but also a scorer of great goals, one of best ever dribblers, final third passers, creators the game has ever seen. His peak is the highest I have ever seen, add longevity and you have the no 1 of all time). 3.Maradona: World Cup 1986 performances will never be repeated by any other player ever. Had all the attributes that Messi has except wasn't one of the greatest goalscorers. And his off the pitch issues meant he never really played to his Mexico 86 level consistently enough. 4. Johann Cruijff: footballs revolutionary. He changed the game during his playing days and than as a manager. A cerebral footballer with magnificent skills. 4. Cristiano Ronaldo: longevity, goals galore, right foot, left foot, headers, long rangers, speed, anticipation. The perfect athlete. 5 champions league titles, success wherever he goes. All substance. The guy who goes straight for the jugular. A silent assassin. 5. Backenbauer: the best ever in his position. Vision, passing ability, goalscorer and an orchastretor. A leader. World Cup and European Cup winner. Special mentions: R9: would be on this list behind Messi, Pele and Maradona if it wasn't for his knee injury and Brazilian party lifestyle. R10. Also would be on the list ahead of Cruyff if he had the longevity and had forgone his parties.
Pele would not be very good by todays standards. Most of the people he played against played football part-time. He’s not anywhere near the levels of Messi and Ronaldo.
**Honorable Mentions:** Johan Cruyff Ronaldinho Ronaldo 🇧🇷 Alessandro Nesta Roberto Carlos Paolo Maldini Eusebio Romario Keane Steven Gerrard Zanetti, etc. Goal Keepers are very under rated, so Lev Yashin Van der Sarr Iker Casillas

IMO JP I make you absolutely spot on? I'm 55yrs old and Man City fan. I've watched all of these players. Maradona could do things with a ball that didn't seem possible? Messi did it more consistently and for longer.
Also J.P. IMO Maradona is perhaps the only player that has won the world Cup on his own? What I mean is Brazil would of won those world cup's with or without Pele etc.. In 1986 Maradona literally won the world Cup on his own, whilst being kicked half to death.
@@leemcr1894 Yes I agree. I would also add that Messi and Ronaldo are quite machine like in comparison to Maradona who was far more artistic in the way he played.

No, Cruyff is in everyone’s top 10, it’s just that maybe he’s not top 5, I mean of course he’s not better than Maradona, Messi, CR7 or Pele, so his place would be from 5th to 10th best.
Puskas and Cruyff both deserve at least a mention, they were the key figures in teams that were not only great but actually sparked revolutions within the game.
@@leeobrien8492 you’ve probably never heard of puskas til fifa, go watch him when he took Hungary to a World Cup final single handedly. Pioneer of the game, one of the first players to master the step over and pullback

Honestly speaking these names were great players and icons in football and we can not doubt their ability or legacy but Unfortunately so is Neymar, Iniesta, Xavi, Aguero, Scholes to name a few but Messi and Ronaldo are in a different level, if there were Messi and Ronaldo in every generation then you will appreciate how good these 2 really are.

Cruyff is not underrated. Everybody realises he’s better than 99.99% of all the people to ever play the sport and the fact that he hasn’t been mentioned once is perhaps a little upsetting but I have no doubt his name came up whilst all these pundits were creating their rankings,

R9 should be here. Incredible throughout the mid to late 90’s, untouchable. Then overcame career ending injuries to come back and win the World Cup. Battled hyperthyroidism, completely changed his style of play to compensate injuries in the 2nd half of his career and still had an insane goal to minute played ratio. Really underrated. Yes career peak longevity was not as good as messi or Cr7 etc but by far the best I’ve seen in those few years he was fit
Even after his horrific knee injury he was the best player in the world by miles. Before the injury, he was as close to perfect as any player will likely ever be. Even my Northern Irish family say he is better than George Best. His prime is easily forgotten, but he was just that good. Before his first injury he was doing a 0.92 GPG. World Footballer of the year at 19. Balon d'Or runner up (unfairly) at 19. He was different.
@@zadoruphin7794 I completely agree. On natural talent he's up there but he didn't have the output of the other people mentioned, I know he's a midfielder but he had a tendancy to go missing. I don't think many have hit the same heights as him though, he'd be 7th for me I think

IMO Diego was the best. Came from a slum, got kicked every game, had no privacy in his life, awful pitches & had to deal with the mafia. Special mentions for Cruyff & Di Stefano.

The problem is you are just left with recency bias. His feats definitely mean he should be in the conversation even if we never saw him live. He came second in a vote for athlete of the century in 2000 behind Mohammed Ali.
For me Maradona is # 1. He could win games with mediocre players around him. He had amazing skills no player had/ had. Some judge him, especially English men, based on his personality and grunge they had against him.
A cheat is a cheat. He also was a drug cheat. Admitted in his book. Cant respect anyone that cheats. He doesnt have the legacy of Messi or Ronaldo due to lack of longevity bcos he was too much of a fat cokehead cheat, how can he be the greatest? no think not

He is certainly the most overrated sportsman of all time. There is so much ignorance, myths don't match reality. I’ve not bothered watching the video because I almost guarantee it’s shite. But one thing I’ll tell you is CR7 and Messi live in a footballing world where every footballer is an elite athlete around them. They're generational and unbelievable but put some respect on this oldies names who've done it in much harsher tougher conditions. Without the sports technology to meta everything yet they still produced performances on the level of Messi and Ronaldo
Doing it against a super elite? They are in the same elite are they not. The pitches George Best, Maradona and Pele played on would shame most Sunday leagues, they had fuck knocked out of them too and there was no pass back rule to keep breaking up play. Would have to say Maradona as number 1...
Maradona was better than Pele imo. Pele is a bit overrated. Played his whole career at Santos and flourished in an already dominant Brazil side. He was good dont get me wrong, but not the best
Ole Gunnar Solskjær how can you say the fact that he played at Santos is a detriment yet it’s also a detriment that he played in a dominant Brazil side you’re completely contradicting yourself. The league would have been strong by virtue of the national teams strength look it up the majority of the best Brazilian players stayed in the Brazilian league at that time.
R9 is the greatest ever striker just like ronaldinho is greatest skillfull player but its about consistency, but their prime is unmatchable, and messi 90 goal a season its never gonna be broken.
The best ever: 1- Maradona leaded his weak teams Argentina and Napoli to win every things. His skills and ability with ball. Also, in training he did something no one can do. 2- Messi he is a great player. Scores, assists, technicians, performances and consistent. 3- Ronaldo r9, he is an amazing offense that can any coaches or teams relay on him. 4- Zidane, his control, leader, skills and effectiveness. 5- Pele is great at his time only, his numbers are great, although I think the WC 1958 and 1970 even if he didn’t play Brazil would win. In 1962 he injured the second game and Brazil won the WC. He also played in American league and Brazil which I think they were easy.

Cruyff made barca, Ronaldinho made messi. Also forgot to mention modern football that is played is basically evolution of Netherlands total football which cruyff was a leader of.
I think it’s clear that Cruyff’s style as a player and a manager has influenced football, in particular, Pep Guardiola, who himself has probably had a greater impact on modern football (time at Barca, Bayern, and Man City most notably) But who had greater influence on football, the Dutch or the Brazilians? For me it has to be the Brazilians. You’ve got Pele, Socrates, Brazilian Ronaldo, Garrincha, and the more recent likes of Ronaldinho and Neymar. And of course David Luiz. 👁👄👁

And the best ever team I have seen playing is Barca under pep with those midfielders ( I don't need to put their names everyone knows.) 5.
It's all down the generations imo. The older generation always say Finney, Matthews and John Charles. There are so many great footballers Maldini, Baresi, Ronaldinho, Van Basten the list is long!!
Yea it's also debatable if one should care about trophies. If you're going to argue that Pele is number one because he's won the world cup three times, then it's only fair to include Clarence Seedorf in the discussion, who won four champions league medals with three different clubs and is largely criminally underrated.
When you go to say pick your eleven of your favorites it becomes really hard coz you have to leave someone out or put someone in to get your formation etc. I couldn’t put Messi and Ronaldo in same team tbh coz I don’t think it would work . I know that sounds silly tho😂
You could put him in with one leg while blindfolded and drunk and he would still score same amount goals if not more than messi and ronaldo in their absolutr prime, and he didnt even reach his.

Garrincha - He, more than Pele or any other Brazilian, represented the Brazilian "Zinga" and is the first player to win a world cup on his own
Alfredo Di Stefano - 5 European cups in a row with Real Madrid. He could play anywhere and in any system
Ferenc Puskas - the jewel in the crown of the all conquering Hungarian side (The Magical Magyars). Also won European cup with Madrid. Had a wand of a left foot
Johan Cruyff - for me, the single most influential person in football and hence, for me, the greatest ever player.

You have a nice list. I can tell you think that player influences and trophies are the most important trait which is not a problem.

Doing it against a super elite? They are in the same elite are they not. The pitches George Best, Maradona and Pele played on would shame most Sunday leagues, they had fuck knocked out of them too and there was no pass back rule to keep breaking up play. Would have to say Maradona as number 1...
I think Souness's top 5 is spot on.
I agree Ole. Pele was amazing and was a great trickster but was overrated to be put as best ever. And like you said he never played top level.

1- Maradona leaded his weak teams Argentina and Napoli to win every things.

Not to mention that totally legit crossbar challenge advert 😂
Cruyff made barca, Ronaldinho made messi. Also forgot to mention modern football that is played is basically evolution of Netherlands total football which cruyff was a leader of.
I think it’s clear that Cruyff’s style as a player and a manager has influenced football, in particular, Pep Guardiola, who himself has probably had a greater impact on modern football (time at Barca, Bayern, and Man City most notably)
But who had greater influence on football, the Dutch or the Brazilians? For me it has to be the Brazilians. You’ve got Pele, Socrates, Brazilian Ronaldo, Garrincha, and the more recent likes of Ronaldinho and Neymar.
