I don't really like how this Jason's story, origin and relationship with Joker, is pretty much a retread of Animated Tim (who in turn was an adaptation of Comics Jason rather than Comics Tim), but meaner. It also speaks quite poorly of Bruce since by Batman Beyond he somehow has managed to lose TWO Robins to Joker and Harley. No wonder Dick stays away.

By the way, I have some solutions and possible explanations on some decisions the comic makes. 1 On the subject of costumes, the answer is simple. Batman and other heroes have multiple costume with differing designs. In the episodes Mad Love and Old Wounds, we see Batman have his TNBA costume in the flashback portions when it should have been the BTAS costume. I used to just chalk that up to the animators just not wanting to make an entirely new character model that would only appear for a very limited amount of time. I know you might be thinking, "But what about seeing Dick Grayson as Robin in the Old Wounds flashbacks?" I think that was only done out of story necessity. 2 On the subject of characters who were revealed to have their BTAS designs in the flashbacks despite looking completely different in the TNBA, I have an explanation. For the Penguin, maybe Jason's rampage as Robin is what motivates him to turn away from his "rambunctious days" and go on a more "legitimate" route. Penguin stopped wearing the flipper gloves (I think that's the explanation Dan Riba went with in one of your videos with him) and he had plastic surgery to give him a friendlier looking facial appearance and he lost some weight either through working out or surgery. For Killer Croc, his condition could have gotten worse or he could have had himself genetically enhanced. 3 On the subject of a character like Man Bat appearing when he shouldn't, my explanation is something else either happened to Kirk or Francine or the writers just didn't care and wanted him to appear as a villain again. This isn't the first time this happened in the DCAU. Volcana had later appearances as a villain without an explanation really despite seemingly reforming at the end of her debut episode. Heck this happened more recently in the Batman and Harley Quinn DTV movie. At the end of it, she seemed to have been on the path of a nicer life; but as the ROTJ flashback shows, it didn't stick. 4 On the subject of possibly changing up how Jason Todd meets his fate so it wouldn't be as redundant as Tim's in this universe, I don't really know what Paul Dini and Alan Burnett could do without diverging too far from the source material and risk making Jason Todd an in name only version of the character or seemingly marginalizing him. Looking at the situation they were in, these two were seemingly screwed on all fronts. They have to be loyal to Jason's comic book origin and overall story likely out of either executive meddling and fan expectation and they had to make some slight alterations to Jason's story since the DCAU Joker was never the Red Hood in this universe and the DCAU Tim Drake shared many similarities to original comic book Jason. I know you guys are thinking, "Couldn't they have done Jason without making him an actual Robin?" I'm going to say "absolutely not!" or at least, not without making the fandom mad. The story is way more interesting since Jason is an actual Robin. Also, DC treated Jason quite horribly over the years including blaming him for his own death despite the fact that he was manipulated by his own mother into The Joker's clutches. Even if you did make Jason not a Robin or some pseudo Robin, the story wouldn't have quite as much of an emotional impact and it also looks like your marginalizing him even if that wasn't the intention. 5 This last part isn't about Jason, but about the story with Azreal earlier in the series. I'm talking about the moment where Batman kicks over Nora's corpse. You guys have said that moment is out of character but when taken in context in the comic, the only reason Batman does that is due to Azreal being minutes away from dying and Mr. Freeze possessing the only way to save him in such a short amount and not being willing to part with it. Batman just couldn't fight Freeze over it since he knew he likely wouldn't win the fight in time to save Azreal. Also, it's not like Batman liked kicking over Nora's corpse. In the comic itself, he thinks to himself that he hates doing this. Freeze forced Batman's hand into doing something very distasteful in order to save someone's life which was Freeze's fault to begin with. However, from what I see in your videos and comments on Twitter, you made it seem like Batman just kicked over Nora's corpse because he liked causing Freeze pain which isn't the case in the comic.
Not that he liked causing Freeze pain, he’s just always been able to think his way out of ever having to do that. But, point taken, I do try not to be one of those “This isn’t how the character would act! Not canon!” people. Just a very bizarre choice from the writers there.
regarding number 3 ,they also did that in TNBA ,harley seemed on a good pathin harley holiday/lock up but without explanation ,she gave up on being good (would have like to got a episode explaining why)
The story own it’s own works much better while I do my reread. From this point one in my mind it happens on DCAU Earth 2. Similar timeline but events happen differently. Allows for Jason and whatever they change to be less frustrating

The comics are canon The Inconsistencies can be chalked up as REFERENCES to other Continuities or Cameos. It's possible the Jason suit was to damaged to display. The original suit that he *"died"* in. The suit that was displayed in Tim Drake being the next Robin is the Temporary suit he wore that was once Dick's suit
I'd be willing to bet Sid the Squid is used here as a reference to The Squid, a supervillain who appears in Batman #357, which just so happens to also be the comic book that first premiered my boy, Jason Todd.
The, "Harley May" schtick Joker is doing is pretty much a play on the archetypal southern farm boy in-love with the town belle trope. I don't have direct examples of it but I recognize it as that from other media, "Hyuck" is pretty much him playing the, "Dumb, good-hearted southerner" stereotype when he gives her flowers (a traditionally old-fashioned performance of endearment)
Pretty surprised that so far they're taking Jason's backstory and making it a lot like how Return of the Joker played out. I mean sure I understand needing to keep certain things intact for Red hood to happen but like you said the DCAU had done a lot of new takes on classic characters and stories so one would think we'd see a similar thing play out for Red Hood. Maybe it will play out a little differently at the end but still like you I wish there's a new spin. Question is now how will Flashpoint Batman,and the Batman who Laughs fit into the story since there's not that many chapters left.

So I use the Waze app for a GPS, and every year they hire a renown voice actor and record them saying directions in character (for example, last year they hired the Cookie Monster puppeteer to prerecord stuff like “in a quarter of a mile, turn left”). They add the voice actor’s character to the list of voices you can choose for your GPS directions. This year, they added the option of Batman. I downloaded the voice, and to my surprise, they got KEVIN CONROY to record the lines!! It’s for a limited time, so if you want Kevin’s Batman telling you your GPS directions, I would get Waze as soon as possible.

I'm thinking of a DCAU multiverse within the multiverse. I mean we already know Hal Jordan is and has been THE Green Lantern in an alternate timeline-universe within the DCAU. Wouldn't it be interesting to see how things turned out differently in those alternate takes? Maybe the DCAU could even have an Crisis on Infinite Earths of it's own.

I almost 100% agree with your conclusion, but I can't have an open heart. I think, materially speaking, these comics broke canon a long time ago, though formally, if they call this canon, it is and end of story. I really wouldn't mind if this was a toy selling shit, but they should get their accuracy straight. Just following to see where it ends (and for the gags). I always had the desire for them to come back to the DCAU, but considering their latest iterations...better keep the way it ended! Keep up the good work!

I'm thinking of a DCAU multiverse within the multiverse. I mean we already know Hal Jordan is and has been THE Green Lantern in an alternate timeline-universe within the DCAU. Wouldn't it be interesting to see how things turned out differently in those alternate takes?
Maybe the DCAU could even have an Crisis on Infinite Earths of it's own.

I almost 100% agree with your conclusion, but I can't have an open heart. I think, materially speaking, these comics broke canon a long time ago, though formally, if they call this canon, it is and end of story. I really wouldn't mind if this was a toy selling shit, but they should get their accuracy straight. Just following to see where it ends (and for the gags). I always had the desire for them to come back to the DCAU, but considering their latest iterations...better keep the way it ended! Keep up the good work!
