Is there any l simple way to root Android 8.0 without pc ? Like i rooted my LG g2 back in 2014 with kingroot which was very easy & simple is there any way like old times? Please tell me
Hi! I just got my Samsung S9 2 months ago and I was wondering whether it's worth it to root my device? I don't have a lot of experience, and don't feel like I'm missing something currently. On the other hand, I do like to customize things and as a previous apple fan boy I jailbreaked (or broke) all of my iPhones. Moreover, I think the only reason for me to root my device is to get closer to stock Android (since I don't use all of the Samsung apps) but I'm questioning whether I'd go through all the hassle, just for that. Could you give me some advice?
Manufacturers want you to use their Android ROM. If you wanted that, probably the manufacturers will make you pay more for those functionality. Also, if you miss or they disable the unlock option in Developer mode then it will be harder to root.
If you had a family computer when you were a kid, you might remember how your parents used to create "administrator" accounts for themselves, and a "user" one for you, so that you don't accidentally break anything in the system. Now imagine buying a computer that doesn't allow you to have an administrator account, that treats you like a dumb kid that would probably break something if you let him. I don''t think anyone reading this would agree to buy a computer like that, but when it comes to smartphones, the majority of people buy phones that don't have root access out of the box, and it's either really hard or impossible to get it. There is literally no justification for not allowing root access on a phone, and by agreeing to buy an "unrootable" phone you let vendors treat you like a stupid child and assume that they know better what's good for you. So yes, it is "worth it" to root your device, and it's not a question of modifications, custom ROMs or ads. You might not even want that on your device, but you should have the possibility. Because otherwise you let vendors treat you like a baby that needs to be put in a playpen so that he doesn't break anything in the house.
everyone including people that don't know anything about smartphone could do a dumb thing with root. But they could make rooting an option instead of blocking it
@@Samuel-ml5oc It is an option, a bit hard to access, requires some knowledge, some experience, it's almost like they want to make sure, that people who root their devices know what they're doing.
There's also Adguard which will work as Adway on rooted phones. Only problem is you'll have to purchase a license, but it'll last forever and they often have heavy discounts.
I need root to configure my kernel and I also really like magisk modules, it's just a whole new world... Sadly my banking app detects magisk, I can't find an old version of the app :(
Lucky Patcher has turned out to be a godsend for me. Something happened to the WiFi on my tablet and it'll no longer connect to the internet, yet in every other way it works perfectly. Some of my favourite apps simply wouldn't work without an internet connection to verify the license. Lucky Patcher removed that requirement.
same with different fonts, at least on galaxy phones. youtube vanced has been incredible for me on non-root, and there's really no difference in the root version
worth it? can you play minimized youtube, adblock entire system, app modification, sound enhancement, overclock undervolt... Almost all unimaginable ways you can do with root that the stock doesn't provide, well it is damn worth it!
To answer these questions... Yes TH-cam vanced doesn't require root, adblock via vpn, app modification sort of, sound enhancement third party app, overclock underclock no... All in all its not worth what it used to be
Have a spare samsung galaxy mini with the same processor, installed CyanogenMod on it and overclocked the snot out of that thing to 1,200 mhz locked. Still not great performance lol
@@sirbughunter Well, considering that the Google Pixel is targeting the casual audience, then I dont think anyone really case. Just look at the specs on the Pixel 3.
@@SteveAustin00 Well, rooting itself doesn't remove ads. But it allows you to install certain apps, make certain system changes that will stop ads. You can install adblocks without root access but, without it, the app will not function as efficiently as if it had root access as it won't be able to change system settings. I use TH-cam Vance, which is a player reversed engineered by third parties that allow me to minimise videos, play videos in PIP mode and with no ads whatsoever. If you are familiar with Android and also Linux, you can make your device run faster, smoother, ad-free and safer than stock Android. And, if you root your device, unlock your bootloader and you happen to have a device that is supported by LineageOS, you are guaranteed to have security updates if you are running an official build in a supported device. While Samsung, Google, Sony and other major manufacturers only update their phones for 2 or 3 years, I know people using Galaxies S4 with latest security updates. AND you get zero Google bullshit with LineageOS. No Chrome, no Google Play, no Books, no nothing - unless you want to have these apps.
@Zcooger Second Channel No man, I disagree. You need access to the hosts file to get proper adblocking. These "no-root-required" adblockers don't work nowhere near as well as the rooted ones.
Zcooger Second Channel "do not see any ads" "however ads still appear on youtube ads" Wich is it? The reason you need to root is that you can get ALL ads away from every app including TH-cam, IG, Reddit etc. Yes no root adblockers work quite well but they don't entirely block ads. Root adblockers do.

exiledfrommyself it's sad though that it took till about 3 years ago to have decent working phones considering wtf we paid for them. I always said if I buy the highest end phone I shouldn't have to root it to get it to work decently.
I know i used to jailbreak my iPhone a lot back in the day, came to find quite a few tweaks i couldnt live without. Then i moved over to an android phone that had it all stock, ao i havent had any need to do it since
Being with the PIXEL 2XL now for 6 months, I don't see the need to root like when I had my Moto Nexus 6 just last year to put on Oreo. Seeing that Google will update the PIXEL 2XL for 3 years I'll do it after then, if the phone holds up. Not buying a Pixel 3 with that big notch. Its just stupid that all of these companies including Google is copying the stupid Iphone X notch and none would even copy the phone that did the notch first, the better one, the ESSENTIAL PH1.
I'm completely in the same position as you, copying the notch for no reason is really annoying, I'm going to stay with my p2 (unless there is any groundbreaking h/w hidden in the p3) hopefully by time the p4 is released plus my updates have finished on my p2 the notches would have fizzled out by then
I have been rooting since I got my first device, Samsung Galaxy Spica GT-i5700 I rooted and installed custom roms and got it to a 17 days battery life and I was amazed, today I'm using a OnePlus 6T comming from a OnePlus 6, both rooted but only for Magisk, no more custom roms or other mods. Magisk provides a large customisation base for most devices and I love it.
It really depends on what phone you use, whether you are happy with the stock ROM and whether the manufacturer provides timely software updates. As you said, with a OnePlus device I have basically zero desire to root it, it's already clean, customizable and up to date.
ever heard of DNS66... i had adaway on my samsung but on my unrooted honor this app works really great... it even lets you select the same hosts file as adaway
This stupid trend of "Is Root Still Worth It?" articles belongs in the list of regressions in the smartphone world in my mind along with notches, missing headphone jacks and unremovable battery covers.
The sad thing is that ordinary desktop computers are "rooted" out of the box. Banks, game companies, media services... None of them are worried about "rooted" Windows 10 boxes. But if you want to properly back up your phone so you dont lose important data, you have to hide it all like you're a criminal.
The truth is that there are just less clear advantages that make rooting a necessity, so it doesn't need to be done anymore for most people. It's not the same type of regression as removing fan favorite features, because unlike the headphone jack, SD card slot, etc, you can still root most phones.
Yeah, my daily driver is Redmi Note 3 from 2016, now running Android 9.0 Pie, with Google Pixel Service and Pixel 3 Camera app, Dolby Atmos, No Bloatware (the only system apps is only 3: Phone - Files - Radio FM) and no ads by installing AdAware, etc. It even faster than before with custom kernel, all thanks to TWRP custom recovery dev, Pixel 3 custom rom dev and ROOT system by Magisk.
Tommy that's actually true, but we usually refer to root/custom rom to be the same, even though it's not correct. Custom rom just means custom OS, while root specifically refers to root access. You can have root without custom roms, though I never really heard of custom roms without root, but I guess it's possible.
Absolutely if you want an incredible sound quality and use Viper4Android, that has been the only reason i've rooted every phone i've owned since LG G2, which at the time was probably the best phone out there.
I used to root my phone since galaxy S1. Nowadays I think it's way more optional than it used to be. Back in the past some features you would only get by rooting. Now you'll probably find workarounds. If you want a custom Rom because you don't enjoy your stock one, then it's still a Go to root.
Hello, i would say rooting is worth, or even more: rooting is essential for aware users. 1. How i get into rooting/custom roms i've been using various android devices through my life, my first (android) phone was xperia x8 with android 1.6. I remembered after some time phone got really sloggish to use, now i know a bit more but i started my journey with this phone, installed custom rom, which allowed me to overclock the processor or when i needed more battery undervolt it, so it lasted a lot more. Then i discovered a benefits of rooting, ive got xperia L later on and after rooting i was able to run xposed and apply some user fixes that solved early kitkat memory and system problems, swapiness and ive discovered posibilities that rooting offered, i was a script kiddie not gonna lie, network apps, sniffers was able to run on rooted devices, back in those days it was possible to crack network keys, steal sessions, various mitm attacks all with using only a phone. Modding games like clib hill racing to exceed upgrade values to see what happen making stupid jokes in middle school network or testing out freshly released android versions on was an awesome expirence. I wanted to know more and more by teaching with own errors bricking phone and recovering data multiple times. Aslo i listen a lot of music and dolby atmos and viper 4 android mods was amazing improvment at quality of sound. 2. Mobile phone support and leaving rooting. Time passed by and i was recognized in my school as somone who can help with fixing android phones, unbricking them, or applying fixes on phones that have factory defects. With custom recovery and root there was nothing that would stop me, for example in my Xperia L power button stopped working - managed to fix it by remapping camera button to act like power button and used phone without caring too much of that. Finally my xperia L got screen cracked and stops working. With rooted system i easily copied all data. Got back to another reserve phone. Later i was using nokia n9 with mee go system, (which imo was the best system ever released in mobile phones history) and felt in love with that phone. Right now im using xiaomi mi 8 lite and after a break from rooting, custom roms in my nokia, i was using it as it is, no root no bootloaders changing nothing. Phone was running fine, only defect was Lte loss, but it was easy to fix just to change networking to LTE/WCDMA and everything was running fine. 3. Fuckup and regret. I got used to smaller interfaces and always changing dpi to fit my preferences but after a year of using xiaomi mi 8 lite i soft bricked phone. Yup by accident i put extra number when entering minimum width dpi in dev settings which makes phone reboots to recovery. I enabled usb debugging earlier on and my laptop is remembered to connect without popup ill reset dpi via adb - that was my first thought. Got back to home, and tried, "device unautorized" error in adb. Excuse me what? A day earlier i had an OTA update from xiaomi which got me android 9>10 and miui 10>11 update. Unfortunate, it reset usb debugging certificates, so i was fucked up. Unlocked bootloader, flashed fresh rom, custom recovery and finally rooted with magisk. It allowed me to recover about 70% of total all photos form my phone. Notes, contacts, sms, and call logs was synced with google so i got them anyway. Then google comes with helpful hand to me, i forgot that when syncing accounts there is a option that sync photos too, and i managed to get all my photos back from google photos app. Quality was a bit worse than orginal as its like this but im happy that i;ve got everything back. However if i had root, or even custom recovery earlier it would save me time and nerves, as i would be able to correct my mistake by entering recovery and changing one line in build.prop. I recovered most of data but not all, and that expirience hit me hard as if i had root i knew several options to bring up system without loosing anything, like pushing new build.prop file, doing adb command to reset dpi to defaults (twrp adb bridge) or flashing only some partition from rom so data would not be lost. I ended up with root anyway (as i said to recover some data) and installed some magisk modules, enabling google cam (which is a way better than stock app) and for example module that fixing wifi bonding problems on qcom wifi adapters. So i would 100% root at any given time to save nerves and have control over device, rooting and twrp makes phone much easier to recover and with systemless magisk root you dont need to be afraid of apps that dont work on rooted as its easy to hide from any given app. if you got to this point, thanks for your time and get into rooting asap :P
But 2018> phone or new android can already do those and there is no real benefit anymore even performance is no longer an issue unless it is a cheap phone or mediatek
@@Vysair I agree that newer versions of Android allowed to do more system changes over years. And performance is great too. That's why I don't rooted my phone at first place, everything worked fine and I don't feel like rooting would give me benefits. As I said I was wrong as it was impossible to recover phone from soft brick after changing minimum width (dpi) by mistake which could happen to anyone who so change scaling of interface. My point is that with root+custom recovery there are lot of ways to recover phone from soft problems or even hardware problems. + Changing recovery allow you to do full phone copy which can be restored at any given time to this state and can lay down on sd card or you can move it somewhere to PC or gdrive. Without root permissions most data recovery programs won't work because they wouldn't be able to recover any deleted files so benefits are real imo, thanks for reply Vysair!
Still rooting - my reasons: 1. Delete bloatware 2. Modify "mixer_paths.xml" for full audio output-level on analog-out (for headphones & Line-Out/Aux), the phone-speakers, anf fm-tuner (if any) 3. Titanium Backup (makes many things easier, since android still dosn't have a real FULL backup-option for ALL App-data) 4. Xposed (mainly to get 1. full access to sd-card, and 2. remount the whole internal "usb-memory" to the SD on phones with low int. memory. Do this with "XinternalSD") 5. Remap some buttons ...that's it :)
Reason for rooting? Removal of bloatwares, installing custom EQ like Viper4Android, tweaking the system, modifying some parts of the system (i.e stock apps replaced by GApps, bootanimation, bootlogo, sounds and fonts) and the top reason is installing a custom recovery to flash custom ROMS.
Also Rooting works wonders for budget phones and older phones You can use gcam to increase camera quality Get better audio Get better speed And latest software :)
Hell yes, free wifi tether, ad blocking, being able to add functions like watching youtube with the screen off while being ad free, or changing tracks with the volume button. There are so many things.
firewall, app permissions, disabling services, host file modification, ... basically a lot of the most important options given by rooting and providing a lot of security or privacy aren't covered here.
@@hiraethneko-chan1022 yeah, many point out that a big point for root seems to an adblocker... and also bloatware can be uninstalled via a pc and the android sdk
The very old reason we root is to delete undeletebale apps to save memory/storage because we have very limited memory/storage before. Next reason is for the ones who doesn't want to spend money. installing hacked apps that needs root to play and have unlimited money or free in app purchase. (Ex. Poweramp) Viper4android. (Awesome music player!) Next reason we root is just trying something new(custom rom). (Rooting gaining 1 good feature but adding 4 bugs/problems) when phone got 2012 laptop specs rooting is not needed anymore.
@@mikeoxlong7607 with custom rom chance to increase gaming performance is less.. your phone is already optimized for using "apps/games" there's always a version of an app the lowers the resolution for faster graphics/frame rate for every manufacturer (some settings are in the game it self) we just use custom ROM to try out new Android version which your "old" device can't get via OTA update.
@@iPtrck Does it affects gaming performance? Miui 10 taken out almost 6gb of my internal storage, so I want to try if installing other rom will make some free space
@@mikeoxlong7607 What's your internal storage? Is it expandable? Rooting may make your device unstable and you can't install specific apps. As I've said you don't need root. If you're always online just download what you needed and uninstall apps that you didn't use.
i just saw 5 second of your video and yes rooting your device is the way to go. The day i buy a new phone on with in couple hours rooted , Bootloader unlocked and twrp recovery !
Reasons for root (my opinion) Removing Bloatwares Restrict certain parts of apps Audio Tweak (install Dolby Atmos) Backup through TWRP init.d tweaks.. and if your phone is outdated custom rom or flash ported aosp roms
And with that root access you can also stop people from tap jacking you and all the customization you ever wanted and control over the phone personalizing your own Android experience I'm in all the way.
custom rom...use launcher greenify...you dont need that, all new android ady have it built-in xposed....outdated and not maintained but anyway, you dont need that anymore overlay viper....viper4android? no need unless you have old phone
@@AntiWeebPenguin There is still backdoor through app though if you want customization and whatnot, you can go ahead and use custom rom and the update aren't worth checking if you use custom rom. Anyway, I'm not sure what my last comment meant nor how far my head stuck up my ass either in the last comment.
I didn't root my old Galaxy Note II, but I did install a custom ROM after a couple of years. The difference between 4.4 with Touchwiz and 7.0 from LineageOS was astounding. It really flew until the day it died.
I used to be a rooting enthusiast. Then I got my Pixel XL and more importantly, I discovered TH-cam Vanced, which gives me all the functionality of the various TH-cam mods in Xposed that I wanted. We'll see what happens once Google quits updating it. I do miss tinkering with it though.
4:20 Dude underclocked his phone 20% and claims it performs as well as when its at 2.6ghz? Sounds like someones lying. I believe he didn't notice any stutters or lag, but claiming "there are no changes in jank frames percentage compared to the default frequency" is an obvious lie. Maybe idling at the homescreen or in video playback but def not in games or anything actually cpu demanding. If there was no performance increase at 2.6ghz they would have clocked it at 2.1ghz to save battery life.
My first Android phone was the Droid 1 from Verizon. $99 for the phone and a 2 year contract in Sept or Oct. 2009. I rooted it shortly after, maybe in December sometime. Definitely made a world of a difference for all the tweaks necessary.
Mr. Carroll W that's true, you have to steer away from big name brands, but there's some companies out there that probably make the phone you're looking for :P I know my G5+ was the perfect thing for me, powerful hardware, good camera, but nothing excessive.
My nokia 6 (2017) is stock android. Android 7.0 nougat out of the box, currently 8.1, will begetting 9.0 Pie later this year. This phone is my daily driver and to be honest, it's the best phone i had since i first own a touch screen smartphone. Also it survived two brutal drops (face down), nuke proof dude.
Rooted Snapdragon Note8 here. Love Viper4Android. Hate 80% max battery life. Love 0 bloat. Hate locked BL so no custom kernels. Love AdAway, L SPeed, SD Maid & Titanium Backup. Hate having the US version. If I get another Sammy device it'll certainly be an international version....they are having all the fun (at least with the Notes). Great review. Oh, LOVE AP!!!
Hell yeah it's still worth it! running Android 8.1 or 9 on a note 3 makes it a beast of a phone even compared to more recent phones! Although the Bluetooth call issue on 8.1 is kind of running it
I used to root all my phones. If they were not rootable I simply did not buy those....but then I learned to used adb to debloat, that was the thing that prevented me from rooting further. Indeed, many phones are unrootable nowadays. Not needing to root give me access to every phone I like.
Of all android phones I've owned, not a single time I've found a custom rom that just works...and that convinced me to switch to Ios-where things just work!
Thanks. Just found out where to get it. Any idea what widgets were used for the notifications on the homescreen and the calendar widget shown? Thanks again for helping out!
I've owned the OnePlus 5t since December and ever since then I have no desire to root it. I like simplicity and performance and still don't have a lot of bloatware compared to my previous Samsung Galaxy devices from major carriers. Its had a few glitches every once in a while, but it still serves my purpose and I have no plans to upgrade anytime soon. 😃
8:12 "If I had a Samsung. I would root the hell out of that thing." 100% Agree. But Samsung doesn't agree at all. From my experience with 2 non-flagship Samsungs, they were impossible to root. Their non-flagships are trash and need to be rooted to fix them.
Their whole Knox things is just ridiculous, considering that enterprise features are forced to be embedded on a consumer-level product, and it makes harder for the community to put a custom firmware inside of it. I'm definitely not going to buy their products again.
I rooted my galaxy s7 the day after I got it. I just hate the touchwiz stuff. I am currently running sac_23_s9_Custom_Rom and it is working great to a certain extent. My only problem is with the camera where is sometimes crashes and requires a clear data to fully function. Root is the best thing about android
Thanks for this video. You hit the proverbial nails on the head. I have a Hauwei P10 plus and never felt the need to root as it runs fine and I like the UI (plus I run banking apps on it). My Samsung tablet on the other hand? Rooted the shit out of it ;)

Android without rooting is unusable. I can't stand ads.
How does rooting remove ads and in what??
@@SteveAustin00
Well, rooting itself doesn't remove ads.

No man, I disagree.

TakingShapeCreations the nornal pixel has bezzels (bezzel> the notch).. when you use a notch you basically lie about the screen size
Buy the smaller pixel 3. No notch
Honestly though even rooting a pixel 1 or 2 has the benefit of better performance with custom kernels
I'm completely in the same position as you, copying the notch for no reason is really annoying, I'm going to stay with my p2 (unless there is any groundbreaking h/w hidden in the p3) hopefully by time the p4 is released plus my updates have finished on my p2 the notches would have fizzled out by then
theres an easy software fix, hopefully google will think of that and add a setting to "disable" the notch

👏
The truth is that there are just less clear advantages that make rooting a necessity, so it doesn't need to be done anymore for most people. It's not the same type of regression as removing fan favorite features, because unlike the headphone jack, SD card slot, etc, you can still root most phones.
@@tin2001 I'm saving your comment, what you've said is just pure truth.

*Sigh* here we go again... YOU DON'T NEED ROOT TO INSTALL A CUSTOM ROM! ALL YOU NEED IS AN UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER!
Paranoid Android is dead BTW.
Was wondering if anyone would call him out on that one. He does correct himself later on. Good video otherwise.
All you need is a recovery that isn't shit. I flashed my phone with a locked bootloader.
Tommy that's actually true, but we usually refer to root/custom rom to be the same, even though it's not correct. Custom rom just means custom OS, while root specifically refers to root access. You can have root without custom roms, though I never really heard of custom roms without root, but I guess it's possible.
What happens i i flash something with locked bootloader? Just wondering, never got locked bootloader so i asked.

Finn The Human I believe that was the G3 and up though with the problem.
Games, bloatware, tweaks are the 3 reasons why I prefer rooting phone.
I used to root my phone since galaxy S1. Nowadays I think it's way more optional than it used to be. Back in the past some features you would only get by rooting. Now you'll probably find workarounds. If you want a custom Rom because you don't enjoy your stock one, then it's still a Go to root.
If you don't like the stock ROM, you bought the wrong phone
Lol. Even the latest android doesn't even have a system wide dark mode which custom roms had for YEARS.
Hello, i would say rooting is worth, or even more: rooting is essential for aware users.
1. How i get into rooting/custom roms
i've been using various android devices through my life, my first (android) phone was xperia x8 with android 1.6.

1. Delete bloatware
2. Modify "mixer_paths.xml" for full audio output-level on analog-out (for headphones & Line-Out/Aux), the phone-speakers, anf fm-tuner (if any)

4. Xposed (mainly to get 1. full access to sd-card, and 2. remount the whole internal "usb-memory" to the SD on phones with low int. memory. Do this with "XinternalSD")
5. Remap some buttons
