  • The Truth about EVs and Hybrids! Toyota's Smashing Prediction
As the push for electric vehicles intensifies, it often seems like there's no alternative-if we don't switch to EVs, we're doomed.
However, recent developments suggest that governments might have jumped the gun with overly ambitious timelines for phasing out combustion engines. Due to this, Toyota's Chairman is experiencing a somewhat vindicating moment. His long-held skepticism towards the wholesale rush into electric vehicles is proving profitable. Following a noticeable downturn in the EV market, the Biden administration has recalibrated its approach, moving from a forceful drive towards EVs to a more measured, systematic strategy. So, what’s not happening? Is this the end for EVs?
In this video, we will delve into the recent downturn in the EV market and analyze why Toyota's stance on EVs and hybrids is now paying off. And without much ado, let's get started.

EVs will be very useful in reducing localised high pollution in cities. Charging facilities can easily be catered in cities. In relatively less poluted suburbs Hybrids could be used as an interim measure till proper charging infrastructure is available.

How green is it when there are hundreds of thousands of new EVs sitting in junkyards because no one will buy them? And what is the plan to recycle all these heavy metal (toxic) batteries?

They recycle them. Used batteries still have Lithium, Nickel and all the other good stuff in them. They become new batteries. The industry is still in it's infancy because EV batteries are still driving around in cars. As for the hundreds of thousands of EVs sitting in junkyards, another falsehood.

Greener than having ICE vehicles in scrap yards leaking oil into the ground.

Thousands of petrol/diesel cars rotting in Asia because of improved emission standards making them unsaleable.

@@steve_is_my_name they keep using the same picture of Chinese EVs in a field. There are ex hire vehicles that were abandoned when the company stopped trading.
But you know, you gotta lie to ICE.

@truebrit3670 I know, covid was not a good time to launch a car rental company. Especially in China.

"Toyota smashing prediction" = 12.1% decline in profits in 2023 compared to 2022, with most profits coming from hybrid cars. it is planning to sell 1,500,000 electric cars by 2026 as it is loosing out on sales.

More stupid talk. Big OIl, The Big Three, the Germans & the Japanese were caught with their pants around their ankles after the starting gun was fired. Now they are desperately trying to get in the game. A game they don't understand. A game of total vertical integration, maximum efficiency and dynamism. Ford took 50 years to replace the Winsor block. The Chinese have a facelift after only one year, a new model in two and technical progress each year exceeding what we saw before in a decade. BYD completes a car every 30 seconds with a production time per unit measured, not in hours, but in minutes. The real truth about BEVs is the boat already sailed with only a Chinese crew on board. Stop rabbiting on about flex fuels, hybrids & hydrogen. Burning any fuel is at best 35% efficient and is locally polluting while being a limited, consumed resource. PHEVs have both technologies offering the combined complexity of both systems but the advantages of neither. Most PHEVs, as used today, are more polluting than a well-designed ICE vehicle. Hydrogen, due to the pressure and weight of the storage tanks, is a total joke being only practical for earth moving but as battery tech improves even this niche may be lost.

      Agree 100%.
Big oil is doing its best to change direction. It funds rubbish like this.
EVs are here to cut pollution that causes 90% of cancers. Big oil doesn't care for our health, it's after our wealth.
I guess they're finding it rather easy to keep the gravy train going when so many are keen to support their robbery as long as their cars make a noise, even if it affects their kids health.
