CrossCode: Playing as other characters

- With a very simple edit, you can play as some other characters. However, their functionality is quite limited.
[Emilie - Pentafist]
- Her melee strikes are much better than Lea's (I think).
- She has the most combat arts available. Which is to say, still not a lot.
- No combat art goes up past LvL 1 AFAIK.
- Neutral CA: Melee, Ranged, Dash.
- Fire CA: Melee, Dash.
- Ice CA: Melee, Ranged.
- Shock CA: Melee, Dash.
- Wave CA: Melee, Ranged.
[C'tron - Hexacast]
- Despite saying he has homing VRPs, ranged attacks actually diverge from your aim.
- You need to use a mouse to shoot a charged shot.
- You can't use melee with C'tron.
- The only combat arts he has are burst damage missiles for all 5 modes.
[Schneider - Triblader]
- His melee attack only makes sounds when hitting an enemy.
- The only combat arts he has are melee spin attacks for all 5 modes.
[Joern - Quadroguard]
- IIRC, he doesn't have any combat arts.

I love how everyone else's melee attacks are pretty standard, but then Quadroguard's is just like *W A L L*
They are the aTANK class to be honest

The attention to detail is so amazing in this game. Even if you're mostly focused on Lea, they made sure to personalize how each class looked and felt unique, from the shapes of their shots/hits to how they attacked, as well.
It would be so awesome if this was official, even if only usable in open-world exploration and having to swap back to Lea for dungeons and story events. Playing as all the other characters would be so fun, including grasshead.
Pitch this to the RFG and suggest them to add modes for other characters in batches. Even if as DLCs, I'd buy them!
Or better, they make this compatible, able to switch characters with different stories, or a Co-op campaign, or a PVP, or even a fully fledged MMORPG out of this

I believe they could implement a mod to make you be able to switch party members to active member, and force you to play with LEa in story segments. If they can follow you everywhere but they can't in instanced dungeons, all they need to do is force you back to Lea whenever you enter those dungeons.
I think the most difficult here is to make every single new ability with new classes, with their own animations and all that. remember tha, this is a pixel art game with a LOT of quality content and animations, and that takes time. But even if they added this as a DLC, I would pay 20+ bucks for that just because I know how hard it is to implement those abilities for each different class considering they need to re-draw every single frame with every single character in pixel art and that's hard as heck.

I would love to see a sequel where you get to play as the other classes.
I wish there were personal adventure mode where we create our own avatar and pick our classes. I know I would choose either Hexacast or Quadroguard. Maybe Crosscode 2?
You're right about Emilie having better melee strikes, pentafists have higher melee damage in game. She also takes damage faster.
Too bad his homing shots don’t work when you play as Tron.
I’ve always wondered why players don’t like playing as Spheromancers. I’d think a balanced class would be more popular
I guess the same reason as min-maxing and Meta build mentality. The internet looked down on people with quirky and experimental builds and most of the players want a surefire way to win.
That's a really weird part of the lore, to be honest. Since everyone says that Spheromancer has the highest skill ceiling, in reality people would flock to them just for bragging rights.
Right? :? I think they said the same thing in .Hack//G.U. about Adept Rogues, which you also play as. :p Similar MMO stuff I guess. :?
Same reason Shaman isn't usually popular in WoW. Being able to spec into an effective party role is usually more efficient than having a well balanced setup that you can solo or flex with.

How the hell do you even do that?! I always wanted to play as Emelie. Please give a tutorial on how to do this
It's pretty much placing a switch player action into an event. For example, in the intro, you switch from Shizuka to Lea in the office (assets/data/maps/hideout/inner-office.json).

You can then change that to be Emilie, or you can place it in another event.

If this is all you want to do, then I've made a simple extension for that: drive.google.com/open?id=1Qpo_u9CXt_10LpJ0SbaK8TgOLw_baSC- (CrossCode/Extensions/play-as-emilie), placed in (assets/extension) unzipped as a folder.
However, if you want to get into modding the game, get a JSON beautifier and start playing around with events.

@@joekenwood4956 Most of the game's files are stored as easily editable JSON files. So by editing them, you can change events or add new ones. The one I listed above modifies an event in one of the intro scenes, where normally, the player you control would change from Shizuka to Lea, but instead, you can make it so it changes from Shizuka to Emilie. That's what this is basically doing.
@@joekenwood4956 For C'Tron, it would be "Glasses" instead of "Emilie". That's because Glasses is his id in the game files. You can find the rest of the people you can play as in "assets/data/players".

if you will learn any of guard arts as emilie first time and let the game show you how to do it the game makes you guard but do nothing then *BOOM* hardlock you cant move

I guess they implemented a lot of Emilie's attacks because they wanted you to control them at some point but just scrapped it? Or maybe it's a testing feature, to make the NPC's looks more real while in your party. I dunno, but I really like that you can access some of their attacks.
I believe so, since it's in the save data rather than requiring mods.

Yes because most speedruns exploits a glitch where you don't switch to lea after the prologue, so you have the actual level and art skills of Shizuka, and play as her.
