I recently bought a new PC with a modest rtx 3070 ti, and I'm having more fun playing older games than newer ones, basically replaying old favorites and some I couldn't play before. New games with all the blurriness and performance issues are annoying me very quickly...
Nice! Me too, i have a rx6600 and like playing classics as Half Life, Dishonored, GTA IV, Tomb rider 2015 or older, Red Dead 1&2. Sometimes N64, Gamecube & Wii games on Dolphin. Remember when i tried run GTA 4 1.0.4.0 on my old i3 370m and HD Graphics 64 mb, using commandlines, mods to remove shadows, streets, etc for get 24 fps 800x600 😂😂 And, before GTA 6 debut for PC, im waiting for get GTA Vice City Next Gen Edition from Revolution Team, for replay that classic history but with physics improves by RAGE engine.
Whaaaat! Im building my nephew a PC for Christmas, and i got everything put together yesterday except the graphics card wasnt delivered yet. So i set up the machine using just the Zen 5 CPU and its Integrated graphics, and Left 4 Dead 2 was the game i used to test the PC. I was able to get a nearly locked 60fps with medium settings at 1440p on just the integrated graphics. Its crazy to see you test this game the next day since i cant even remember the last time i heard anyone even mention this game. thanks for the video.
2:51 Source engine actually uses pre-baked sudo-raytraced lighting with the VRAD tool using a radiosity algorithm. There is a difference between how raytracing and radiosity works but the results can be quite similar.
@@zWORMzGaming try also using SGSSAA from Nvidia Profile Inspector on these older games, it's the highest quality Anti-Aliasing method and sadly can't be forced on most newer games.

In case you did not notice kryzzp, gpu power usage went down even at 8k 8x msaa even tho it was not running out of vram, the same thing can be observed in your RDR2 4090 video with 4k resolution and 8x msaa.

So so many memories playing this game, when I was younger and had no responsabilities, no work, no bills, just coming home from school, turning on the pc and playing until night... Also back in the days this game had one of the best graphcis out there, and it was so damn well optimized.. But even if you played at lowest settings, the game was so much fun that you didnt even cared... Have you ever played max payne 2? Was from similar era and even that game, holds up suprisingly well in my opinion..

I personally love stuff like this, going back and running older and/or less demanding titles at super high resolutions is always a good time. I tried a few times to get emulated Midnight Club LA to work on pc so I could play it at however many Ks my 7900XT can manage, but unfortunately I couldn't find a working iso and emulator combo

You could type "-lv" in launch options which stands for low violence. This turn off some blood effects and infected body parts flying off, which will improve CPU and GPU perfomance. -lv is usable in L4D1 as well. Also, there are plenty of 4k texture mods in workshop
Maybe it's just me, but this game still looks good. Dismemberment + blood looks good. Level design is great. Atmosphere is still believable. It was a masterpiece back then. I miss those times.
Versus is still VERY popular on this game! There is a lot of competition, private server and ranking system, a LOT of strategy, movement tricks and all, it's so fun! It just can be hard when you are a ""beginner"", when you join a non private match you have 1/2 chance of getting kicked because people are mean, i like teaching people how to play in Versus it's so cool but not everyone like it x33
There are still a couple spots in the game that are CPU limited on my 5700X3D. If you crouch walk up the squeaky ramp in Swamp Fever and look in the direction of the saferoom the 1% lows dip below 200 FPS.
You and I can run this game on my Lenovo Legion go and runs buttery smooth with the AMDZ one extreme chip. It’s a type of CPU built-in inside a type of handheld in that handheld CPU has a built-in IGU which is a powerful processor that performs really well. Sometimes they can reach 100 frames or two 144 frames. It’s pretty good.
fun fact: l4d2 have more players than Indiana Jones and the Great Circle other fun fact: valve was making l4d3 (2019 I think) but shelved it because source 2 didn't have enough resources

So glad to see my favorite game of all time being tested on a monster GPU right now with very high fps. My potato laptop back in the days even struggle to run 30 fps because I didn't knew there was low settings and lowres lamo. This is truly a dream. I know it dozen matter much if you are playing coop but personal satisfaction with consistent 240 fps and above are much enjoyable. But the hordes quite heavy though, especially if you use bot mods, tons of Vscripts and hosting a local server. It will drops real bad fosho. It's like the only game that never get bored playing. The replayable value is insane in this game. 🤧🥲

My 2nd Laptop had a i3-3120m, 8GB DDR3 and a GT 740M, which I actually played a ton of GTA V with at around 900p low @30fps (the GT 740M could have gotten more, but the i3-3120M couldn't handle more). Then I bought myself a Laptop with a i5-12450H, 16GB DDR4 and a RTX 4050 mobile, about half a year ago, but now, idk why, I bought myself a PC with a 7800X3D, 32GB DDR5 amd a RTX 4080 Super just a few weeks ago, even though I only bought the Laptop so recently, but with my new 4k 240Hz display it is a way better experience, than with any laptop I've ever had. Btw, it's crazy that basically all the systems I ever had were able to play this masterpiece!
They actually added the scout, mp5 and the awp into the game a couple years ago! It would be fun to check out the game with 200 mods like I do... Crashing is fun I swear I'm not coping 😢

I think the reason this game runs so well because of valve's source engine.If this was a unreal-4,5 title.It would be laggy,stuttery,blury and plastic looking.Also not to mention old games didn't used any inbuilt taa like unreal,upscaling features and also they worked hard on optimization.Which is why old games looks way more sharp in lower resolution and settings even.Also not to mention runs better use because of using their own inbuilt engine.Also I think old games used different kind of texture.Like new games use some kind of pbr texture I heard which also I think makes the textures looks plastic or I could be wrong.
That CS:S scout isnt a mod actually. CS:S were exclusive to the german release of the game as a form of censorship and when Last Stand came out they were made available to everyone. Only way you would get to use those weapons were modded servers.
Playing older games, even ones that aren't too old say from 2015 can make modern midrange GPUs like a 3060, 4K cards. The graphics in many of the older games are still pretty good and you can play at 4K ultra or 1440P high refresh vs playing modern GPU melters from 2024 at 30fps low settings.
Man, sometimes I feel like we should take a step back, take the code we had 15 years ago, and restart from there, with optimization in mind. It’s like the last 10 years of game engine development were useless

My first gaming pc I built had an xfx hd 5670 and athlon x4 645 in it and I had so much fun playing this game!

You could try running the game with Vulkan, though that's not native implementation, they're using DXVK (that's not even the latest version iirc)
