Thank you for body doubling🙏 I've done my big pile of dishes by hand while watching you on my phone in a cupboard 😂(There is no room for a dishwasher in my small kitchen) I am allready in Take your house back. It is so inspiring! My attic was horror for 9 years. Yesterday there was room for ironing and I can use my Total gym. It's not done yet but I have come from far! I am proud of myself😅 And I've taken the Professional Organizing Expert Course by Cas too. I am so happy and a lot has left my house!✨️ Greetings from the Netherlands❤️
I took the plunge and signed up. I am excited. I need to reign it in and realize it is not going to happen overnight! Thank you, thank you for making it affordable to those of us with very limited funds.
I have been doing this for almost 2 years now. I value myself over stuff now. My home is calm and peaceful. People come over and tell me that. I am happy when I walk in the door of my home.
Hopefully you'll see this - Does Eric have any suggestions for when the mold remediation company refuses to do any testing and claims that dry black fuzzy stuff that is only where wood has been water damaged is mildew when it's actually mold?
My family and i live on a half acre with my hoarding mother. It's her property, so I've been working on it for the last ten years. Save me, my whole family has severe disabilities or is really young. I'm it. I've been concentrating on a cleaning routine. I've also been decluttering a little at a time. Yesterday, I got 5 bags of stuff out! So grateful for your inspiration and encouragement. Eternally grateful.
You got this. It must be incredibly difficult and challenging to even spend 5 minutes working on your property but you’re doing it. So proud of you 🤍✌️
My sister was a famous writer and educator but behind this front she had a terrible, unadmitted hoarding problem. She died of cancer after 8 years from her diagnosis. In her final years when she was too tired or sick from treatment she'd order even more useless stuff on line!. Her house and every other building on her property were crammed top to bottom with trash and treasures. She left it there for me and a couple of her friends to clean out. It took us 9 months of hard work and countless loads of trash to ready her property for sale. And the new owner still had to bring in a couple of dumpsters when he renovated the place. I felt pity and revulsion and even anger at my sister for leaving us such a horrible mess..and her adult children were very upset because she died owing a lot of money which had to be paid out if their inheritance from the sake of the property. So I can relate to the overwhelming nature of cleanup.
My mom's side are hoarders. It drove me nuts when I had to move in with her for a bit. I remember she wanted me to go thru files & declutter them. These files were from my elementary school years & I was around 20. I had about 13 bags for recycle bc she had kept literally every single piece of paper. The stairs were lined with bags. I left for the night & came back to 2 bags... she had gone thru every single one! 😆 Needless to say, I was pretty upset. I highly suggest taking any trash out or hiding it, bc they will bring the stuff right back in.
I absolutely loved how you expanded on Corbyn's other amazing qualities. It can be so easy for us to get into the habit of only focusing on just a few parts of what makes someone special, and it often sells them short. Especially with boys and young men, praising qualities like generosity, sensitivity and curiousity helps show how wonderful those things are. It was really lovely to watch.
I did about an hour of decluttering today and got rid of 3 trash bags of trash and 3 boxes 9 of donations. I was pleased! Felt so good! I have learned so much from you
Dawn: "Just because there's no garbage can down here, that's why it didn't get thrown out." YES!! That was our basement as well until I realized that my husband didn't throw things away because there was NO CAN. Bought a big one - easy fix. Has made a world of difference!
If I keep the trash can in his tool shed emptied, my husband goes on a cleaning purge. If it is full, no more trash will be put in it. Funny how no one else thinks of emptying the can tho. 😅
I know you already know this Dawn, but I just have to say it- this “concept” is literally life changing for so many of us. Speaking for myself, having ADHD makes projects (and even the smallest tasks) unsurmountable for my brain to even begin to contemplate starting, let alone completing. “All or nothing all the time” is very real and very paralyzing. I can honestly say it is the undercurrent of why my home has been such a disaster for so many years and so many additional stressors and issues have developed in my life. The never-ending cycle of my general state of anxiety and non-action from that paralysis. (And the depression and buying more crap to “distract” from all the chaos and mess..you know!) I have slowly started adopting this mindset over the past couple of years (mostly because of you, Dana, and Cas) and I am here to say, it truly is the KEY to breaking through that stronghold of believing that I may as well not bother doing anything if I cant do everything that needs to be done. I know it’s so simple for most people, but for me it has literally been a prison. I am saying all of this because I just want you to know how thankful I am for your example, your videos, and for the impact you have had in my life and my family. So, THANK YOU for inspiring and empowering us Dawn!!!!!! 🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶
Thank you for posting this & you are not alone!! This is EXACTLY how my brain works!! All or nothing. Perfection or failure. I HAVE seen how the weight lifts even with small chunks accomplished, but my brain has been thinking like this for over 60 years, so it's very hard to retrain it. THANK YOU DAWN... for always encouraging & supporting others. Your tips and advice are always spot on. You never judge.... And heaven knows... We judge ourselves enough for the both of us! ❤😂
Here is ADHD and perfectionist as well and I totally agree that. I’ve started with Cas and then found you Dawn. Thank you for these awesome videos! ❤️❤️❤️
One of my issues is that I’m OCD about recycling and composting. I try to throw away very little so I don’t contribute much to landfill. So getting rid of stuff is much more time-consuming! Plus I’m financially challenged, so I try to sell items on eBay, Poshmark, etc. It often takes a long time to sell stuff, so I have lots of listed stuff around. I have made hundreds of $ selling stuff, so that reinforces the behavior. All the stuff makes me feel overwhelmed and paralyzed! I’m going to try the 5 minutes at a time approach to hopefully improve the situation. I’m 71 and do NOT want to leave all this stuff for my daughter when I pass, which is my primary motivation. Thanks for your inspiration!
@@deborahahonen6949maybe you could put a time limit on your sales? I read recently, I never thought it that way before, but - it all goes to the landfill eventually.😢 True, but I have tried to recycle before too... My county stopped all recycling pickups.
So same concept:: I wrote a book in ONE MONTH using 1hr chunks each afternoon! I knew God was calling me to write a book for women grieving miscarriage and stillbirth. It of course took longer to edit but it will be published in June. I am certain that having minimalized my home and routine greatly helped make this calling a reality!
❤The way you praised Corbin and told him specifically what you appreciate about working with him! And the way he beamed up at you soaking it all in...just wonderful! You can really tell what a great relationship you have with your children. 🤗
I've just started watching this video but I had to pop down here into the comments and say thank you Dawn! Tomorrow will be one month since I had surgery and I've had an unexpectedly rough recovery. I've been so frustrated because I just do not have the endurance or stamina for much of anything anymore, much less bigger projects. It isn't a matter of not wanting to, but I honestly cannot. Its been so demoralizing and discouraging. The idea of being able to make REAL and MEASURABLE change in just 5 minute increments?!? That's something I can do! I feel hopeful and encouraged for the first time in weeks, that I can still accomplish *something* while my body heals and adjusts. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
I hope you heal well and take heart. You can make a huge difference chipping away at a big project in little pieces like Dawn says! I have also been watching a woman who had a completely hoarded basement (hoarder's Heart)who has made enormous progress over the past year or so clearing out her basement, one box at a time. It seems impossible sometimes at first, but you can do it! On days you feel better or have a helping friend over you can do more, but take it easy. BTW, a lot of surgeries take a couple of months to start really feeling better and you maybe are not supposed to be lifting weight yet if only a month so check on that first.
Many years ago I realized that I could get chores done on commercial breaks, it became a habit and now I do it unconsciously. I have also made a habit of picking up on my way to bed so in the morning I get up to a nice home. As my father would say blessings on you! Pam
the power of 3.5 minutes. that's how long it takes to steep my morning tea. I went to bed the night before without straightening the kitchen and while I was waiting for my tea, I had my kitchen tidy again.
I love the idea of saying in front of the kids “oops, I made a mistake buying this.” So simple, yet so impactful to show them how to think about their purchases and that it’s okay to make mistakes.
Love how Corban wrapped the shop vac power cord to take up the slack and keep it put of the way while he was working. And that kid can paint! You and Tom have taught your kids so many life skills. They will do well in life. And the basement looks fantastic.
Omg, yes! This was so impressive to me as well. Also, how both of the boys knew how to put the shelf together and the bolts and screws. Such professionals. Mom & Dad have done such a great job.
The 5 minute chunk really works. I’m about 90% done with decluttering my kitchen. If I had a nickel for every time i said “I’ll do it later.” Now I say, “nah, I’ll do it now.” Thanks for your infusion of realistic goals. It’s led to achievement and I like it! Thank you.
Hosting a birthday party with family from out of town. Put away clean dishes, stacked the dishwasher, tidied the kitchen, and put away stray items. Grateful for body doubling! Thank you for your encouragement for the past few years. Looking forward to company with the clean and tidy house I have instead of dreading and anxiously cleaning. You've changed my life!
I love your videos. I'm 72 years old. I am not naturally organized but I have always strived for order. Many years ago I read about timing our chores. When I learned it only took five minutes to fold the laundry or to even wash the dishes, it made it so much easier to do. I am now striving to declutter and with your help, I will no longer organize my stuff but instead get rid of my stuff. And it feels great. Thanks for your help.
It took me a long time to realize that I was just moving stuff around. It is amazing how far I have come in one year and the amount of stuff I have let go of. The more I declutter, the happier I become. ❤❤❤❤ Dawn, you have changed my life for the better. Thank you for all you do for us. 😊
Your words spoke volumes. I’m so sick of my stuff that I want it out. Yesterday I went through my dressing room, 3 large shopping bags and baskets that I was using, are now sitting in my hallway waiting to go to the Op shop tomorrow. Dawn thank you for your inspiring videos on how to declutter, that’s it’s ok to let go, your world is not going to stop if you let it go. I know my home will breathe a lot better without it. 😊
I just took my dresses and shoes and purses from THE 80's! to the upscale retail shop, and then to Salvation Army because none were "in style" so the shop did not buy any of my cute, perfectly good clothes. My daughter is NOT sentimental and chided me on keeping things that were 30 years old, LOL and from her wedding a dress I never wore, chided me about it being 22 years old. I finally had had enough of them taking up room in my closet. I have outgrown them but the "memories" made me keep them......goodriddance!
We did this concept while refreshing our bathroom in Feb/March! We worked in one or 2 hour chunks and sometimes didn’t do anything on it for a whole week. It made it all so much more manageable and enjoyable than if we had only given ourselves one weekend to do the whole thing.
Dawn, You are more than the “minimal mom” you have accomplished to teach 100+ methods to declutter our belongings and have encouraged me in attempting to show us methods on productivity of a task that seems so impossible for some of us. Thank you!!
Thanks Dawn for this encouragement to make steady progress! Question: Have you ever used "time" as a container to guide your simple living? For example, setting the goal that the Christmas decor set-up and tear-down needed to be within the "time container" of 60 minutes. If the day was broken into time slots, I think I'd be surprised by how much I try to do in time I have (read: completely unrealistic). For me, it has been a reality check to continue to simplify. Thanks for continuing to inspire!
Today our 24 year old daughter is moving out and we'll be empty nesters. Talk about decluttering! It's amazing how much square footage in this house is used by her stuff! It's really motivating me to get back to decluttering our stuff. I'll be painting her bedroom in the very near future and creating an office for myself. I'm so grateful that I decluttered over 30 years worth of paper clutter last year! Thanks to the TYHB program. 😃🥰
Dawn you have an incredible helper there. It's funny that before you even said it, I was thinking how helpful Corbin is but also he struck me as a very caring and warm-hearted person. You're basement looks great now - nice and fresh !
Dawn I truly hope that someone watching this video takes advantage of the Fake Your House Back group. I am not exaggerating when I say LIFE CHANGING! Everyone will find their way with the help of all 3 of you. So different AND so useful. I love the way that you allow your children to help you, to figure things out. I also love that you made mention of all of his other great qualities. ❤️
I’ve been doing this basically alone for quite a while. Dear husband is a bit of a pack rat and I have had to choose my battles. However, he is retiring in 3 months and as he can’t stand sitting around, I am praying that he will be self motivated to finally purge and clean his precious junk. I am biting my tongue till then. And even when retirement comes, I pray the words that come out of my mouth will be gentle and encouraging to him. But oh how I have wanted to scream and tear my hair out at times!!! Somehow made it to 41 years of marriage by the grace of God 😍
I used the first 30 minutes of this video to speed clean my apartment, AND got rid of a few more things. I didn’t give myself time to sit and stew about if I should keep it. I thought about the end goal. Using a little chunk of time with Dawn talking in the background and cleaning too!! Love this concept!!
I’ll be honest. Was feeling so frustrated and a bit defeated in my space, and even hearing your voice calms me down a bit . Thank you for the encouragement 💖
I can attest to the power of paint, I painted my dungeon of a dark green cinder block garage, white! Wow what a difference! Later, I made an art / craft studio in the basement. Painted the walls, floor and some old furniture, arranged it to make it functional and hung fabric as a back drop to separate it from the storage area. I sent my youngest to camp for a week, and finished it before he got back. He couldn’t believe the transformation. The room changed from an embarrassing catch all to a much used area and sense of pride. Now, several years later, I use the 15 minute task method, often once I get started, I hit repeat on my timer and keep going, but feel just as satisfied if I stop at the first 15. Your videos and ideas have been inspiring me for years. Thank you!
So many relatable things in this video. My spouse got on board after seeing my attitude change so much from decluttering my items and areas of our house. I have been working remote since 2020...and the five minute timer is amazing. I will take my breaks 5 min at a time and work through chores... sometimes I also use my lunch break but it is amazing how quickly 5 min of effort adds up over a day/ week. I am able to use my weekends for pleasure activities or simply rest vs. all the chores and tidying tasks. Keep spreading the good word! It does matter and it does change lives.
Back in the 70's (when the earth was still cooling) there were the Side Tracked Home Executives One of their house cleaning deals was "mini jobs" any job that could be completed in 10 mins or less. They said that you can get a lot done in small chunks of time and that we don't realize how easy it is to do a small job
I have been decluttering my craft room twenty minutes at a time for a few months now. I have to remind myself of the goals on a regular basis to keep myself going. I can’t wait to have a fantastic ‘after’ pic! Thank you Dawn and fam. ♥️
Aww look at your son’s face when you’re complementing him …his wee face lit up with a lovely smile and showed how delighted he was listening to his mum talking about him in such a positive manner. ❤
I’ve been saving my paper filing until the kids go to their week-long soccer camp in August, but 5 minutes a day sounds so much better! Now I’ll have a week free for something else. And it will give my 3-section filing system (that you taught me to create) a needed fresh beginning. 🙌 Thanks Dawn!
Because of you, Dawn, my friend and I started paper decluttering over two years ago. Life changing would be and understatement. The key factor in its continuing success is body doubling. My friend and I don't do each other's work, but just being together helps us focus and really makes it fun! It is now our most favorite day of the week! Thank you, Dawn!
Dawn! I love this video and would love to see more like this! I love putting on long ones when I'm cleaning/organizing/decluttering. Also, I just wanted to say that every time I see Corbin in a video I always think he is such a sweetie - so kind, patient, and understanding. I always refrained from commenting but I figured you and/or he might like to hear that. I work with kids and whenever I get a kid like that in my class (especially a boy), his mom is almost always a super friendly, caring person and its just a huge reflection on one or both parents. :)
I guess I needed this. half way through watching I got up off the couch. Went through my food storage area. Got a bag of trash out and a bag of recycling. It’s trash day too so to get that out is a great feeling. Thank you so much for the motivation I needed. Enjoy the day. 😊
Body doubling works SO well for me! During your video today, I caught up on my laundry, organized the winter things, took out the trash, created a new Time will tell bin and Donation bin, put a few things in it and am feeling more ready to tackle what I have been putting off (Paper/Sentimental things) 5 minutes at a time!! Thank you Dawn!!
It's bedtime here in UKwhen I'm watching this but today I have got lots of jobs done around home and in garden and I have really enjoyed doing my housework and outside jobs done today, definitely is because of how I have my home now. I've done many 5 min jobs today and some longer ones Everything just seems so easy now manage and maintain. Best way to live for me x
Well done video, I did my high-low-underneath dusting in our family room to be prepped for vacuuming after lunch, It is lovely to do monthly cleaning in a decluttered space and your coaching kept me e gaged and on track. Plus you motivated me to apply 6 minutes to our basement as well. A pastor's thought on Legos based in the Great Command: when I was in the season of mothering when no one was playing with Legos, I donated them to a family shelter serving homeless children. ❤
My daughter sent me this video (probably because I'm in desperate need of decluttering!). This is helpful information presented by a real, relatable, fun and friendly person. Thank you. 🤗
Greetings from Scotland! It all looks great, and if you had done it in one weekend you would probably have felt tired, plus doing the painting in 'chunks' means it can dry before you do the next bit, or move stuff over onto it!! Wee suggestion: If you put or paint, a lovely picture of woodlands🌳🌳🌳, or a mountain trail🌲🌲🏞 or a lakeside view, on the wall in front of the gym equipment, it might make it easier to use, especially if you play some "spa music with birdsong" 😁
I have massive amounts of paper stuff to sort through (still) and organize, so I do it while I watch you on my computer at my desk! I could really relate to your excitement over how much better your basement looked after removing unneeded stuff, cleaning, and painting! We had massive water issues over the 10 years we have been in our home and all of the excess I had stored in boxes was a perpetual disaster waiting to happen. We finally invested a fortune and had perimeter drains, a new sump pump/dehumidifier system, and vinyl wall covering installed! OMG! I no longer cringe when i rains because I know that I will never see a drop in my basement ever again! So now the real work begins, as 1/2 of the basement is my turf where I have my office, crafts, sewing, and books! I no longer have to waste time balancing totes up off the floor "just in case" (right Tom :-) Now I am finally digging in and deciding what stays and what goes. It isn't easy, but watching you over the last year has really helped me get in the right frame of mind! I have watched a bit of others here and there who focus on decluttering, but none of them click with me the way you do and I always move on after a minute or so. Keep up the good work, you and Tom! We all need you to keep us inspired and moving forward!
I was really overwhelmed this morning so I did just a couple minutes of trash bag therapy and it helped soooo much. Just 1 trash bag and it made such a huge difference. I was also able to fill a whole bag of donations of clothes. I still can't believe how much stuff I had and still have.
Wow! I would want to workout in that space now. You are so lucky to have such a handsome and willing helper as well! These 5 minute intervals are so motivating!
I love your little helper… you are not raising boys, you are raising MEN💪🏻 our youngest (of 4 ) boys is 18 and graduating.. I keep telling him he can never leave because he is such a good helper❤ but hard work is how they become strong men. Letting him help with project decisions, appreciating how strong the little guy is… builds up his confidence and masculinity ❤ God bless you!! I 5 minutes at a time- that is very encouraging ❤
I watch your videos while I’m at work in an art studio. Most days I work alone and so it’s so helpful to have fun videos to watch to help the time pass and keep me motivated 🙌🏼
Right after watching your video I went straight to my pantry & cleaned out a big bin, reorganized a couple more bins, dusted the family room TV & console, & put a party platter up for sale on Nextdoor. Next I'm going to sit down with a cup of tea and a square dark chocolate. Thank you for the motivation, Dawn!
I got in the habit of 5 minute clean-up per room when my house had much less stuff. Every once in awhile I decluttered several bags of stuff. I found recently though I had a place for everything, there was more stuff. After "inheriting" family treasures after two siblings died, I was having challenges of finding places to store stuff. I am also a genealogist (paper). I have started putting genealogy info into online databases and have not had time to keep up. I started watching your videos a few weeks ago and got one room 95% cleared. When I started on the 2nd full room I suspected I was leaning toward hoarding and started becoming more generous with donations. After two days of all day decluttering I came to the awareness I caught my hoarding just in time. I am determined to get this stuff cleared out. Thank you!
I loved what you said around 35 mins in about true happiness in helping others. I'm a therapist in a secondary school here in the UK and I hold a lot of teenage chaos and angst in my professional day job. Coming home to a tidy, organised, clutter free house is essential for me. Thanks Dawn. X
The book “Cheaper by the dozen” is about a real family and the father studied and loved time management. He loved seeing how much people could accomplish in 10 minute segments. The “Bells on her toes” book is part 2 of the family. I think they were the Gilbriths? Maybe…..anyways, I read those books years ago and still remember how much I can get done in just a few minutes.
That’s a nice story. Mine is a little darker? Johnny Depp in 21 jump street reruns- his girlfriend gets shot and killed in front of him. He feels a lot of guilt about not saving her. He watched store surveillance tapes and sees it was 3.3 seconds. He then sees how many things he could accomplish in 3.3 seconds. It was very sad and I took the idea and ran with it. Yours is definitely a nicer story.
Yes that was the Gilbreath family. When he passed away his wife ,who was an engineer, began teaching and designing. I accidentally found a book she wrote showing how kitchens could function better with her plans.
I love watching what you can do in 5 mins (lol like me it over runs the 5 mins once I am into what I am doing). I am a terrible procrastinator, I will think about it, plan it, investigate best method, get loads of stuff to do it... everything except actually getting started. Approaching it as a 5 min chunk is the best motivation to get on with it.
Another channel I follow, her motto is 1 hour better. It makes sense and has motivated me. You may not be able to do a deep cleaning or get it all organized but 1 hour makes a huge difference; can vacuum the entire house in an hour.
First I want to start by saying that I absolutely love your love for God, as that should be the most important part of our lives. A couple years ago, I watched a few of your videos here and there, and I remember thinking “I don’t know how I would be able to do this or if I could do this.” “ I don’t think I could throw away stuff that I know I didn’t need now, but would POSSIBLY need in the future.” Life happened and I soon found out I was expecting our last little one. Unfortunately, I stopped watching. I suffer from depression and anxiety while also suffering from chronic pain. A couple months ago, I was brought to my breaking point. My house has NEVER been as unorganized as it is now!! I was once again brought to your channel as I was looking for motivation to get up, clean, and organize this mess!! It was watching one of the first more recent videos that you’ve done that I KNEW I could do this and was inspired to do it. I have a long ways to go, but just by watching one of your videos has really helped change my mindset. You never know which video is going to make the most impact for someone. I just want to say thank you for being so uplifting, and caring for us all in “TH-cam land” who really do struggle with this and don’t know where or even how to start the process of getting back control of their home.
Corbin is an awesome helper and so amazing that he's on board with simplifying inventory, whether it's clothes or toys, I'm so amazed! YOU ROCK CORBIN!!!
I love how your son got rid of so much, without any prodding! Great job!!! I've learned how decluttering for only 15 minute intervals, calms my anxiety.
I really enjoyed this video and feel motivated now. Your son is as sweet and helpful as can be. He really did a great job. Please tell him we all said so.
I don't know how I missed this when it came out. This is so helpful. If you see this, please make more videos reminding that 5 minutes matter. With 4 kids 7 and under and one on the way finding more than 5 minutes to do anything is rare.
You truly have an impact on people. The 5 minute idea is great as it breaks thosedaunting tasks down. That Corbin is a gem. Thanks for your constant encouragement ♥️
I had told my sweet Husband he needed to throw some stuff of his away and in just a few months later he passed away so now I have it all to deal with. But he is in Heaven I have a nice walk in closet I can't get in for all of his clothes he had so many more than most women lol and shoes I gave my brother n law 13 pear pairs of shoes. I'm going to try to go by the 5 minutes you did in the video
That’s incredible, Dawn! I wouldn’t have wanted to set foot in the before picture. The after picture made me want to work out!! Thanks for your motivation. 😊🌸☀️
Oh dawn, I just love your “get it done- don’t wait till you can do it perfectly” attitude. I’m right with you! I think the difference with your Lego- tossing-skeptic is that she’s probably a personality who enjoys organizing and maybe always has. You’ve mastered the things you need to do to get to the end of decluttering tasks, and for you tossing them is the way to go! I can’t tell you how much I love all your videos. I grew up in the twin cities, and I feel like you’re one of my best friends.
I took the 15 minutes and cleaned off my desk (6 months of mess)......5 minutes is always a wonderful start, turns easily into 15 and an improved space!!!! Thank you!!!!
I just wanted to point out what an amazing mother you are to your son. You were doing all the right things to instill confidence in him and healthy masculinity. Keep up the good work. I’m talking about the way you praise him believe in him and talk about how much you need him and how helpful he is. This is like air for breathing to boys and men alike. And this crazy society we need more respect and acknowledge of health masculinity, and that starts with educating our sons to have self-confidence believe in themselves and make this world a better place❤
Dawn, I have been watching for years but haven't commented. I just want to say I LOVE how you speak life into your son ... his face just lights up with your affirming words. ❤ His love tank is filling up. Good job Mama!! Thank you for all you do for us too! God bless
So I watch you all the time but never comment. But today, I literally laughed out loud because I have the same wall-hanging type of basket that you decided to donate and I have been holding onto mine "Just In Case". I feel like your decision to donate yours was a sign for me to let mine go!! Thank you for always being inspirational even when you might not even realize it! :)
Five minutes is everything! I made a list of tasks that take only 5 (or less) mins to complete and whenever I have 5 mins before I have to go somewhere or do something time sensitive, I pick one and do it.
I found several items to part with while watching. Also, I had pulled up old carpet in my hallway. I'm waiting to finish another project before replacing it. It's concrete underneath so I painted it for now. Amazing the difference ! It will be fine until I get new flooring. I then painted my utility room floor. Looks much better !
I am so happy to see good parents in the world. (And sadly it shines a light on the failings of my parents' parenting style.) It warms my heart to see you building up your children for all of their wonderful qualities. Your worth doesn't come from your grades or brag-worthy accomplishments in school/life. Your worth has so much more to do with who you are as a person and the small kindnesses you choose to do on a daily basis. I think you are doing a wonderful job of raising caring and confident children.

Yay another long video, I’ll come back and watch tonight… kick up my feet and enjoy an episode of Dawn.
Thank you for body doubling🙏
I've done my big pile of dishes by hand while watching you on my phone in a cupboard 😂(There is no room for a dishwasher in my small kitchen)
I am allready in Take your house back. It is so inspiring!
My attic was horror for 9 years. Yesterday there was room for ironing and I can use my Total gym. It's not done yet but I have come from far! I am proud of myself😅
And I've taken the Professional Organizing Expert Course by Cas too.
I am so happy and a lot has left my house!✨️
Greetings from the Netherlands❤️
So proud of you 🤍✌️
That’s a hard place to be. Just stay focused on your stuff not moms. Find joy in the small wins!
I understand completely. I am in a similar situation. It’s very hard on relationships but I do see positive change from a year ago.
His expression ❤❤
The “power of 5 minutes” and “managing inventory” are the favorite principles you’ve taught me. ❤
I recently mentioned that I have a hard time managing the inventory in our home and I may have seen my spouse’s brain melt.
I love the "permission to let it go"
I did about an hour of decluttering today and got rid of 3 trash bags of trash and 3 boxes 9 of donations. I was pleased! Felt so good! I have learned so much from you
Way to go!
Good for you!! 🎉 I’ve been doing the same, what a relief to get rid of stuff!
Nice job!!
Great work! You will sleep well tonight.
Wow!!! That’s so awesome!!! 👍❤️
What a great kid Corbin is! I find myself smiling every time he does. Such a sweetie and growing up so fast!
Right?! He absolutely is!
☺️💕
I agree. He's an amazing kid. I love the way he digs in and always has a ready smile.
Dawn: "Just because there's no garbage can down here, that's why it didn't get thrown out." YES!! That was our basement as well until I realized that my husband didn't throw things away because there was NO CAN. Bought a big one - easy fix. Has made a world of difference!
I had a similar experience in my garage. Love my lined can and recycle bins!
Yes, I thought that too! 😄
Oh my gosh is that why my husband has trash in the garage? 🤦🏻♀️
I totally agree
Wonderful video. My favorite is seeing the pride on Corbin's face as his mom praises him. That's what it's all about!❤️
So same concept:: I wrote a book in ONE MONTH using 1hr chunks each afternoon! I knew God was calling me to write a book for women grieving miscarriage and stillbirth. It of course took longer to edit but it will be published in June. I am certain that having minimalized my home and routine greatly helped make this calling a reality!
Every blessing with the uptake of your very helpful book, Kathleen! XG Ire
Well done, and congratulations!
@@SF-ru3lp thanks!! Amen!
@@tgayer1 thanks!! 🥳🥳🥰 I'm getting excited
May I ask what the name of the book is? My DIL and son may want to read it. Thanks, and blessings to you for listening to His prompting. 💞💞
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Hope your recovery goes quickly for you!
Yes, that is a good plan to take it slow as you recover! Take care.❤
Wishing you a quicker and less painful recovery.
Aww, such beautiful memories you are making with your son 🥹😭. You are such a wonderful momma, raising a great son ❤
Many years ago I realized that I could get chores done on commercial breaks, it became a habit and now I do it unconsciously. I have also made a habit of picking up on my way to bed so in the morning I get up to a nice home. As my father would say blessings on you! Pam
I do the same thing!!! Commercial breaks😂
the power of 3.5 minutes. that's how long it takes to steep my morning tea.
Dawn, I’ve watched your videos so long that I know painting is your happy place.
Thank you.
Corbin is such a sweet kid who is eager to help!! He’s been raised well! I’m sure all his siblings are incredible too!
Your son is adorable, and what an amazing parenting plan you have there. He is so resourceful and helpful. Just delightful to see.
Dawn,
You are more than the “minimal mom” you have accomplished to teach 100+ methods to declutter our belongings and have encouraged me in attempting to show us methods on productivity of a task that seems so impossible for some of us. Thank you!!
LOL you inspired me to do some 5 minute tasks and it evolved into 2 hours of cleaning and decluttering - Thanks for the Inspiration!!!❤😊
I wish you much calmness during the transition time!
This is one of my FAVORITE videos you have created and very encouraging. Thank you so much for your encouragement and inspiration!
😂when the earth was still cooling haha! I loved S.H.E. so much back then.
I have been decluttering my craft room twenty minutes at a time for a few months now. I have to remind myself of the goals on a regular basis to keep myself going. I can’t wait to have a fantastic ‘after’ pic! Thank you Dawn and fam. ♥️
Even during photos are motivational, so take some of those, too!
Aww look at your son’s face when you’re complementing him …his wee face lit up with a lovely smile and showed how delighted he was listening to his mum talking about him in such a positive manner. ❤
5 minutes matter! This concept was life-changing.
I love the before and after shots of the room. You did a great job. 😊
I love hearing you build up your son...how important a mother's words are!
Short chunks of time is how I accomplish most of my goals. I break down the steps and crossing each off is so satisfying! 😄
Corbin is such a hard worker…. And he’s so thorough! He works like an adult! And he’s such a nice kid. 😊
I guess I needed this. half way through watching I got up off the couch. Went through my food storage area. Got a bag of trash out and a bag of recycling. It’s trash day too so to get that out is a great feeling. Thank you so much for the motivation I needed. Enjoy the day. 😊
Me too! I spent about an hour tackling small jobs around the house.
Okay, you’re motivating me to get up and do something now! Thanks!
I love how you validate your kids strengths and show appreciation for their help. Great foundations for raising caring responsible adults.
I love, love, love how your son helps you with such enthusiasm! What a wonderful boy to be willing to help his mother so much!
I love seeing a long video from Dawn 🤗
Thank you. 🤗
This is the first time I actually cleaned along with you. It is amazing what we can accomplish in 15 minutes. Thanks Dawn. Shout out to Corbin! 🙂
"Grody"! Hearing you use that word tickles my heart 😂 Blessings to you Dawn, ALWAYS!!! 🤍
Here in the UK I use ‘manky’ for the same thing!
These 5 minute intervals are so motivating!
would love to see u & the kids paint a spring mural on the wall to give yourself a view when using the treadmill!
Yes I use posts like hers as a shadow buddy/body double
Good job Corbin! I love his smile and willing to help attitude! Proud mom moment! Basement looks so fresh!
I love the way you interact with Corbin. You are such a positive influence on him. Good job, Mom.
Corbin is such a great helper and so adorable as well. You have wonderful children!
Thank you!
Well done you, and good luck moving forward with it 😊
I loved what you said around 35 mins in about true happiness in helping others.
@@veronicageorge7820 wow! I probably saw that episode but had forgotten about it…..I would love to see it again. Johnny Depp😉
I remember that each child had their own color for towels, cups, etc.
@@kayakinggrandmakelly7105
Indeed 😊
You have been an answer to prayer for me. You and others that teach this method.
What a great transformation! Well done. And Corbin's an awesome helper. 😊
I love how you speak so positively toward your kids about their character qualities 💖 that way they know it too
I took the 15 minutes and cleaned off my desk (6 months of mess)......5 minutes is always a wonderful start, turns easily into 15 and an improved space!!!! Thank you!!!!
Please keep reminding me that "5 Minutes Matter"!!! I need the encouragement!
Been doing 15 min first in my craft room, now in my master closet. Looks so much better:)
Dawn, I have been watching for years but haven't commented. I just want to say I LOVE how you speak life into your son ... his face just lights up with your affirming words. ❤ His love tank is filling up. Good job Mama!! Thank you for all you do for us too! God bless
I am actually putting stuff away. It is a hard habit to break leaving stuff out. I think of you and these videos often. They keep me motivated. Thanks
It’s cute watching you and your son go back and forth between the vacuuming and painting. What a great helper.
I am blown away at "5 minutes". You are amazing! Corbin you are amazing! Thanks for your encouragement and motivational videos..
I love how Corbin already has so many great "dad" qualities. What a sweetie!
