Iran and the Arabs: the Changing Balance of Power- Asher Susser

  • Asher Susser discusses how a major shift in Middle Eastern politics has taken place in the last generation. As the Arab states have continued in steady decline, in some cases poised on the verge of disintegration, Iran has emerged as a regional super-power. The Middle East is no longer synonymous with "the Arab World" in terms of the regional balance of power, as it was for much of the Twentieth Century, as the non-Arab states of the region, Iran, Turkey and Israel, have emerged as the regions major players.

Let’s be real Iranians and Arabs, until recently it was UK/US Gulf.
Today any warship entering the guild must inform Iran and basically ask for permission because Iran is capable of sinking any ship in the area. So today we can call it the Persian Gulf.
Arabs can call it the Arabian Gulf once they shut down the US naval bases on their territories. It’s simple as that.
Remember the story of Arash the archer (kamangeer). He went on top of mountain Damavand and shot an arrow into the air and shouted to all Iranians, where this arrow lands is the Iranian border.
The Arrow represents the Iranian projection of power.

And to convert to sunni is a death sentence, it is better to convert from shia to Christianity than to sunni.
Sunni Aarabs are not allowed to use their language and they rae not allowed to have more than one child. Iran execute more people than Saudi Arabia. You need to do a reseach before posting such baseless and unfounded comments.

Yes Infact all the critics Christians use to attack Islam are from Shias because they are not Muslims. So it is normal Shias and Christians unite because Shias worship their saints and Ali just like Christians worship Jesus asking saints for their needs.
We are in the final trials and Jesus son of Mary will soon descend to stop the anti Christ who is a jew with his army of coalition.
Your source of information is cnn BBC fox news etc which report to enslave the masses like you. Don't you know that terrorists were not there before 1990? Why? Don't you know that the US are tye biggest terrorists who killed four million sunni civilians in the past 3 decades and nothing is mentioned in your medias.
You need to define a terrorist again. The one who comes so far away and bomb banks hospitals bakeries bridges grain silos or the one who wants to end this oppression and enslavement of white crusades against Muslims?
Crusades took thousand years and they alway attacked Muslim lands. Can you mention any Muslim land envading a Christian nation in the past 100 years? By the way all these chaos are caused by us imperialism and their thirsty for controlling this small planet.

just to clarify a point in the speech about Turks not being interested in taking Iran on.......
Neither the Iranian leardership nor the Turkish leadership can sell a war against the other to their population. Iranians and Turks have lived alongside one another for milleniums. Only Iranians and a Turk would understand the unspoken brotherly solidarity between the two folk. I use the term "folk" and not countries on purpose.
I the Iranian leadership tomorrow declared war on Turkey they will probably end up with a revolt on their hand....
How Truks are treated when they come to Iran and vice versa is unprecidented in the whole of middle east.
Even in the UK as an Iranian my small donner kebab will end up being larger then the large donner kebab of the English boy standing next to me as soon as the shop keeper realises I am Iranian.
    Nuff said.

as an iranian national with agnostic views. i wonder how different would the atmosphere be if there was no shiite islam in the region with such recognition.
shortly before the revolution of Iran , prime minister shahpour Bakhtiar offered Khomeini to practice religion amongst people however to be separate from state power. before any decision was made France arranged for khomeinis return to iran which eventually meant being the head of the state. west always implied something that has echoed through generations.
if we had separated religion and politics , we would have been a country like Italy where pope is respected and state has the ultimate power .

Egypt is a great power and Saudi Arabia is also a great power in middle east. I don't understand his definition of power but israel has no influence in the region. Israelis have a good army but it's only defensive and they have not a great ally in the region. Middle east is divided between Sunnis (friends of saudi arabia) and Shia (friends of iran). I see Turkey and Israel more as western countries that they don't want to deal with the other nations of middle east.
