The 17th largest country in the world, the Islamic Republic of Iran commands attention not just because of its burgeoning nuclear program but because of its many roles in world affairs -- as the most important state sponsor of terrorism, as leader of the "rejectionist front" vis-à-vis the Israel-Palestine conflict, as the inspiration for radical Islam elsewhere in the Muslim world. There is also the matter of its suppression of the Green Movement in 2009 and ever since. In this intensive weekend-long conference for high school teachers, we looked at Iran in its larger historical, cultural, and geopolitical context, with lectures by the best scholars in the country.

Even a Christian professor telling the truth history but so called mollas, wahabis and hypocrites still in doubt and praise Yazid and his father Muawia

John Calvert, an Arab specialist, is interested in Iran because he knows tomorrow belongs to Iran in the middle east so he wants to have a foot in the door for his own future security.

Why does no one ever speak how Iran only became Shia 400 years ago? For the first 1000 years of Islam they were Sunni? And how they got force converted by the Safavids to become shia? Why does no one ever speak of this

Simply because this narrative isn't wholly true. The buyids who ruled Iran long before the safavids were also Shia. In fact sunnism was forced on iran by brutal wars and the Iranians choosing of shiasm was a kind of reaction to get rid of Arab imperialism especially during the rule of the racist bani umayeh. Read the history if you want to know the truth.

Where are the percentages of Shiites in the population of Iraq or Iran are coming from? Shiites are a third of the Lebanese population, not 40%. These percentages, other than Lebanon’s, are guesstimates.
An academic should qualify his numbers.

The shia population is always given less, the Sunni keep buying the press so as to show less in Shia

I think the shia's r more then 42% in Lebanon, they will always show it to be less, they r also in Bahrain. I was watching a British ( former) member of parliament and he said that I'd the election on lebanob were held where by the president, Prime Minister etc were for the majority then the shia will take it all

Islam and being a Muslim and some degree Christianity( specially Orthodoxic and catholic church ) moralizes entitlement to virtue and civil rights while liberal democracy and in practice pluralism rationalizes entitlement to virtue and civil rights . why a society or community or an individual cant be rational but rather moral , brings up this discussion that morality and value based mentality and consciousness vs rationality and reason based mentality and consciousness could be the grounding features . this value based consciousness and reason based consciousness in my view epigenetic . This could finally bring us to this discussion that if one defines constructivism as a conscious working model reaching from rationality to value while if one defines structuralism as conscious working model reaching from value to rationality ; then liberal democracy evolves and flourish individually if the epigenetic conscious working model of a society member is based on constructivism rather than structuralism.
